We discovered The Eye Club a few years ago and have been ordering our glasses from them. They have a small yet good selection of frames and I've always found something good for myself at a decent price. This time around, I went in to order some sunglasses, which I'd never had before. I was fortunate that the doctor, herself attended to me. She helped me select a frame and also explained everything clearly, including options, costs. Very similar to my earlier experiences here but extra special with Dr. Nguyen herself attending to me. And finally, since I have some travel coming up, they asked for a rush order and got my prescription lenses back within 3 days! When I went in today, they patiently worked with me to adjust them perfectly. Driving back in the hot sun, everything was super clear with the polarized lenses and anti-reflective coatings. I would NOT go back to this place if it were the last eye exam/eye wear place on earth. My last and final visit was two years ago. I specifically asked for a COMPLETE EYE EXAM. When I asked her why haven't received drops in my eyes for dilation, she replied, "We don't do that anymore. Nobody does." Eye dilation is included in every "reputable" eye care exam except at Eye Club. Not to mention, she never wore gloves when touching my eyes. Dr. Nguyen is an excellent Optometrist and won us over immediately first visit/exams. However a follow up experience for me coming in post-surgery on 2/4/2025 I received very poor customer service from Eva one of Dr. Nguyen's front office staff. Eva also did a very poor job adjusting my eye glasses which resulted in my having to go back in. This time I requested to speak with Dr. Nguyen informed her of Eva and how poorly I was treated on 2/4. Eva made no apologies when I spoke with her directly at this return visit. Eva recalled me then said I was the one who came in with the attitude. Eva basically admitted she treated me poorly but that it was all my doing brought it upon myself. What happened to we are customers? I was not rude to Eva. This YELP review 1 Star a direct result of employee Eva. My glasses are still not adjusted right. I've been a patient of The Eye Club for 25 years and left it because the office staff lied to me. I am very disappointed in Dr. Thuy-Trang Nguen, who employs lousy staff, doesn't train and doesn't supervise her people, who doesn't even explain to them that it's not OK to lie to the patients. I had an eye exam on 12/1/2023. I ordered contact lenses, computer glasses and long-distance glasses. They told me that it will take three weeks to receive everything. Within a month I received computer glasses and contacts, but I have never gotten my long-distance glasses. So, for simplicity, all the references below are regarding my long-distance glasses. At three weeks mark, The Eye Club told me the lab completed the job, the glasses are done and they are just waiting for them to be shipped. I waited for a week, nobody called me. At four weeks, I came to the office thinking may be the office forgot to call me. The staff and the doctor were confused, told me that glasses are "in progress" and they will be shipped tomorrow. Should arrive early next week, they said. Of course, nothing arrived. At five weeks, I became quite angry, realized that something must be wrong with my order and The Eye Club was playing games with me. I spoke with Dr. Nguen who said that there was a problem with my order. They can't fit my lenses in the frame I chose. I have high power prescription and when picking a frame, I always ask if this frame is going to work with my prescription. I asked the staff that question on December 1st as well and was told - yes, this frame is fine. So, when I heard that next excuse, needless to say, I was pissed. Instead of lying to me all this time, they should have called me a long time ago and said: "There is a problem with your order. Do you want a different frame that fits your lenses better?". Now, we were in January 2024, the doctor said she placed a rush order (that some rush order all right!) and suggested waiting until the end of the week. She explained that I will lose my 2023 benefit if I cancel the order now. I agreed to wait again. At six weeks mark, I lost any trust in Dr. Thuy-Trang Nguen and her incompetent staff. When, after SIX WEEKS OF WAITING, I heard that my glasses "shipped", I just didn't believe a word coming from her mouth and decided to cut my losses, get my $134 that I paid out of pocket back, and the heck with my lost 2023 benefit. It's not worth wasting my time on these people. Stay away from this place! If there is an issue with your order, you will be screwed. Nobody will care for or help you. My husband and I are repeat clients. Although we have moved out of state, we squeezed in visit to see Dr. Trang last month while we were in town. My husband has perfect vision so his exam was only an eye exam. My exam was for contact lens. The doctor was professional and was very thorough with both exams. Wow the old reviews here are clearly out of date and so are the photos. Although I have nothing of my own. I just know I've been here for over 3 years, the office looks new and different and although the selection isn't humongous, they have sufficient high end quality brands that last for a long time. How do I know this? because I drop and sit on my frames all the time. I can't speak in behalf of the budget brands, because my eyes are horrible and I always need the sturdier frames to contain my thick lenses. As for the actual examinations.. no issues. My eyes are checked thoroughly..I haven't left here with new prescriptions that give me headaches.. and the staffers are quick with paperwork and are good with b recommending frames that are flattering to you read more

I was skeptical about going to an optometry store during this pandemic but I was in need of new glasses badly so I decided to try the closest place to home. And wow, the staff there was super helpful and cautious with taking my temperature, cleaning everything, keeping distance and they were all wearing masks! The front desk guy, Casey? I think, was super helpful and made my experience so much more enjoyable by following all the recommended procedures of the CDC. Overall, it was a great and relaxing experience and I will definitely recommend this place to all my friends in need of new glasses or prescriptions! read more

I was in dire need of a new prescription and glasses and with this whole pandemic, not many places are open. Dr. Nguyen and her staff, Simran were super nice and helpful to even take me in at this time. They took extra precautions with a very clean and sanitized office. They also have a nice selection of frames and I was glad they carry my favorite brand, ray ban. I ended up going with the club masters model. Today (2/4/2020) I received a letter from Dr. Tom about my previous review. I received information that he was not working that day and had not owned the practice for the last 4 years. What with multiple doctors working there and a lot of medical places don't have newsletters, I was not aware of that fact. (For instance, recently my dentist retired and the place was taken over by a new dentist with no notification made before I went in expecting him and encountering a stranger.) And as I mentioned, the eye exams he performed we excellent. Now it seems those changes make sense as he had stepped back. Therefore, I sincerely apologize to Dr. Tom for involving him. In the letter there are claims that the reception had given the advice to see other optometrists or eye doctors, as their earliest appointment was not until 1:30pm and my call was at 9:35am. That is not at all how I remember the incident, but since it was last spring, this would become an "I-said/they-said" battle that I don't want to bother with. However the details go, I stand by my statement that YOU CAN'T SCHEDULE HAVING AN EMERGENCY. Once again I apologize for involving Dr. Tom; he has been a good doctor and wasn't there that day. Even via previous review there is nothing to blame him for. I wish him well. My contention has been and is solely with reception. I hope we have all learned something from my incident. A completely rubbish place. They gave me the wrong prescription and insisted it was the right one. "You will get used to it," they said. Six months later and I'm still having problems with the brand new glasses. I have to take them off when I look at anything close up. "Your eyes are getting old," they said. Nooo. I used to go here about 15 years ago. It was my family optometrist. Last week I recently went back for an eye exam, and to purchase new glasses. The Pros: 1. Jackie is amazing. She is the backbone of the business and she really knows her stuff. 2. Dr. Tom is great. He's kind, gentle, caring, and will actually remember you 15 years later. The cons: 1. Nothing has changed much in the past 15 year's advancement of equipment, etc. 2. The rest of the front desk people are clueless. 3. Not a huge selection of designer glasses. Would I go back? Well, yes, because I have a personal relationship with them. But would I recommend it to friends....well...I don't know...if they're not into designer glasses? read more

I finally got the prescription and now I wanted to get colored contacts and they told me I have to go AGAIN and get fitting again and AGAIN pay $60 . This was my first time here and the staff was totally knowledgeable and professional! They greeted me by name as I walked in the door. I was seen right at my appointment time. Dr.Nguyen throughly went through everything before she started my exam. Angela the optician went over my insurance and made me aware of all my coverage. She was on point and found the best value for my 2 eye glasses I purchased! I'm so looking forward to picking up my new glasses and taking my children here for their annual exam and glasses! I have to say... We have been going here for years. We never had a complaint. Today however, I called them because I had to pick up my from school early. He got something in his eye and it was very irritated. When I called the office I explained what had happened and the lady told me: I'm sorry but doctor is full today and needs to leave on time today. Then she proceeded to put me on hold to check with the doctor to see if they can squeeze him in. BS response! Then she gets back on the line and says I'm sorry doctor has a schedule to keep and needs to know if it's something you can physically see or not see in my 10 year olds eye. I explained that it's not visible but he feels it when he blinks. She then proceeded to tell me that in that case I need to take him to his pediatrician because they will just do the same thing that doctor will do. EXCUSE me? Are you fucking kidding me? This is ridiculous. I will never go to this place again and I highly recommend that if you have yourself and eye emergency and need a good compassionate doctor who will try their best to help you!!! You WON'T find it here!!! What kind a bs doctors has this world come to. Dr. Tom and staff you just lost yourself 6 dedicated clients. read more

I have been a patient of Doctor Tom's for well over 15 years. And while I generally like Dr. Tom, I had the worse experience at my last exam that finally put me over the edge. I have a high prescription and wanted to make sure my eye glasses could be produced using a frame and lenses that kept me from having coke bottle glasses. I told the front desk lady who placed the order that I was willing to pay the extra for a thin side profile. What I recieved was horrible lenses that protuded from the frame almost 1/2" and were not of the highest density or edge polished to minizmize the size. they clearly were not examined before I came in because if they had they could have seen how bad they were. Jackie blamed the lab and sent them in again. The second time was was even worse. this time they did edge polish the edges but the polishing was milky and very clear. Also the lenses were protruding from the front of the frames a 3/4" of an inch - I had never in my over 43 years seen this. I again told them I was not happy and wanted them to use higher density material and was told the extra cost would not make a difference. Again I asked for a do-over and insisted they try a third time. When I came in the third time, I was horrified by what I saw - it appeared as if nothing had been changed and to make matters worse this time the lab forgot to edge polish the edges making the lenes look even bigger and for my high prescription this was bad thing to forget - I looked like Mr Magoo. I finally had enough! And decided to take my prescription to Peninsula Optical in Palo Alto where I showed them what the Eye Club had done. They were shocked and dismayed. A week later I recieved exactly what I needed perfectly produced and no longer the coke bottle glasses. I dont know what and why they couldnt get it right. I think Dr. Tom should have intervened. But it was never shown to him. The front desk staff seems to always have young inexperienced people running the front. The equipment and office seem very outdated read more

Dr. Tom is very gentle and caring and remembers me even though I only go once every two years (since I was and still am practically 20/20). So I've probably gone like 3-4 times in my whole adulthood. Their store caters to children and offers many children's glasses. I think his gentle nature is soothing and is perfect for anxious kids, big or small, which works out great for me since I'm a big kid at heart. :-) I totally feel at peace getting my exams here. (I usually don't like most doctors or dentists because they are pushy or rough or have a loud voice, etc. Talking about a big baby here. :-P) For adults, they do offer brand name sunglasses like CK, DKNY, etc, but nothing flashy. I was fine with that. I have quite a few DKNY sunglasses from here. :-) If you are looking for flashy or blingy designer glasses, you won't find it here though, but I'd gladly come here anytime for my exam and then just go elsewhere if I want something high end like those super hip blingy Salvatore Ferragamo's at Santana. OK, point is, I'm a big baby and I think this is the best place to get your exams, especially if you're a kid and afraid of doctors in general. they were excellent. yes, some of the ladies at the front might be a little inexperienced, but i witnessed the woman who seems to have been there for a while teaching them how to do things. that's just what happens at small businesses - they need to train new employees and it's totally fine with me, but i also have great patience. anyhow, they were all super friendly and helpful. i had a great experience and would totally recommend. Dr. Tom did not force me to have my pupils dilated to check my retina, because he said he was able to see just fine without it. that to me means that he knows what he is doing and is experienced enough to know when it is necessary to dilate and when it is not. speaking of style, they do have some trendy frames, albeit not the largest selection. i'm a designer, and have been receiving nothing but compliments on the frames i bought here. also, they take most insurance and Jackie did a great job of crunching the numbers to make sure that i got the most from my insurance. they also have very low fees and prices for lenses. i HIGHLY recommend this place. great find! read more

The staff at the front desk are very nice and helpful. I made an appointment ahead of time and went it. The eye doctor was very nice and made me feel comfortable during my eye exam. After I chose my frames and the staff were helpful in giving their opinions. It depends on you insurance for the price but for me it was very affordable. Originally they told me it would take 7-10 business days but my glasses were finished and ready for pick up in only 4 business days. I highly recommend coming here. read more

So I called this morning and kindly asked to get my child's glasses replaced, I wanted to make a payment over the phone like I ALWAYS do, and the grouchy inexperienced girl with a lot of attitude told me I have to come in for measurements, when clearly the prescription isn't even 3 months old, and the fittings are pretty good and up to date. I'm sure we could've made it work.. like the OTHER past times I've called. These girls need to LIKE their job instead of handing out attitude over the phone, They don't have to work there.. My name is Sandy. Dr. Tom has been our family's (which include my husband, me, our son and my brothers) optometrist for the last 16 years. The reasons why he is our optometrist are many. First, Dr. Tom is very knowledgeable about what he does. After the eye exam, he would explain the result and goes through the various options thoroughly. In my case, I am near-sighted and have a touch of astigmatism. Over the years, my eyes slowly deteriorated with age and now I need either bi-focal or progressive lenses. Dr. Tom was very helpful in helping me pick out the option that was best for me. I really like my glasses now and actually am comfortable wearing it. It is the same for the each member or our family. Out in front, Jackie is the best. She is easy to work with and is accommodating. I really enjoy the interaction. I know that everywhere you go, there will be good experiences as well as not so good ones. For me and my family, Dr. Tom has been consistently excellent, such that we never have to look anywhere else. If you are looking for an optometrist, I would really recommend Dr. Tom. Been going to this location for 7 years and as of late I've been really uncomfortable with their customer service. Recently I needed to schedule for a weekend appointment. The lady who answered clearly told me that depending on who my insurance provider was, that would determine if i was "eligible" for a weekend appointment or not. This was my first experience getting eye glasses and the staff was not as professional as the doctors. When I asked what was Add 225 the girl just read from the prescription. I asked again and she repeated herself. She couldnt tell me what it meant and seemed to get a little irritated with me by asking so many questions so I ordered bifocals, because I needed to see from 3 ft and 5 ft away. I returned the bifocals because I was getting a headache trying to see from each prescipton. Another girl was Irriated with me because I was returning them. I stated I will order 2 pairs of glasses. I made it very clear I want to see from 3 ft and 5ft away.I even brought a tape mesure. My glasses are 2ft and 4ft. I paid for what they gave me not what I wanted. That was pure lazyness. My entire family sees Dr. Tom. My kids sat on my lap there the year before it was their turn to be in the chair. He is very thorough, discovering an eye condition my son had which had been missed by the school screening and his basic screening at the doctor's office. I recommend him and his staff. The "girls" at the front desk were very helpful and friendly. They took proper care of the customer before me and the ones that came in after me.
