My girlfriends and I went to breakfast Friday morning at The Eye Opener. I had never been here before so I wasn't sure what to expect. It's a small dining room so be prepared to wait for a table. The menu has a decent amount of items to choose from. I decided on a build your own omelet. The omelet was full of the mushrooms, spinach, and cheese I asked for and was so tasty. I had fruit on the side and toast. Very good breakfast! I wasn't able to eat it all. My bill, came to $10 so not too expensive either. I definitely think we'll be back! read more

I had passed this place a few times and finally decided to drop in for brunch with my boyfriend. Let me preface this by saying, you don't just "drop in" at this place. We got there around 11:30, so they weren't quite as busy as I'm sure they would have been even an hour earlier. However, my boyfriend still probably played about 20 games of Fruit Ninja before we were seated (and he's pretty good...just sayin'). So, the service was sub-par, but the food was delicious! I'm rarely awake in time to eat brunch, but luckily this morning I was hung over and ready to eat with friends. I had a breakfast sandwich. The ingredients were fresh, and the sandwich was good. I opted for sweet potato fries instead of the potato browns, because I saw them on another person's plate and they looked pretty scary. I saw a lot of complaints about service on here, and am happy to report that our waitress was friendly, and kept the refills and the bloody marys coming. I gave three stars simply because my food was good, but nothing remarkable. I wouldn't make a special trip to The Eye Opener, but if invited, sure, i'd go eat there. read more

This is place is just ok. We tried it for the second time this morning. On the positive side, we've been lucky enough to get a seat instantly on both visits. But the food is really a mixed bag. My eggs benedict was pretty good although the potatoes were not hot. My husband's omelette wasn't great and he didn't enjoy the corned beef hash last time. My omelette last time was pretty good. The service is lacking and I really need to share what I witnessed at another table. The server approached a table with two plates of food. For some reason which I didn't see, the one breakfast hit the ground. She actually tried to serve the other breakfast. And she didn't even apologize for dropping the breakfast. The diner was stunned and just looked at the server. The diner flagged down another server and asked for her breakfast to be kept warm while she awaited her husband's breakfast to be remade. She really shouldn't have had to ask for that. It should have been a given! Bad service. I may return and I may not. Who knows. read more

Best breakfast in Akron. They care about quality and it shows in the food. The bar is designed like an island in your kitchen, makes you feel like you're at home. Friday: First time here. Sat at counter, was by myself for breakfast. Had the breakfast bowl. Sausage, fried potatoes, onions, cheese, and two eggs with an English muffin. Was fantastic. Service was great, food delicious, prices moderate. Five stars. Sunday: Was so impressed on Friday, brought the wife for brunch today. Counter again to get seated quickly. Got the breakfast bowl again, she got the french toast. Food was fantastic again. We got our food fairly quickly... but others didn't. Staff is disorganized and not well managed. Saw a lot of walking around doing little while plates sat under warmers for five minutes or more. Some staff move very slow for a busy place. Appeared owner was there, but was totally unaware. Then we saw one of the staff wash his hands at the sink... good... then wipe his hands on his pants... bad. The place would do well to hire a truly professional restaurant manager... or a restaurant consultant. Kudos to the cook... excellent work. Three stars. read more

Visited this week and place really hasn't improved much from my last stay which I also rated a 3 star. But hey, at least it didn't get worse. Service is still awful even when slow. Took a long time for anyone to notice us and put our name on a waiting list. Suggestion: Greet guests promptly. Once seated, were ignored many times by servers. Called out to server but was ignored. If I had to review on the food alone, I would give it a million stars a hundred times over but the wait staff and management just killed it for my wife and I. First, the wait is entirely too long and the front of the house woman is too distracted to seat people at clearly open spots. Then when they do seat you, it was short and completely unwelcoming. I figured it may have been a coincidence the first couple times we went so decided to give it another shot (since the food was so great) and not only did the same thing happen, our waiter changed the tip amount that I left on the receipt!!! It wasn't only until I looked at my billing statement that I realized it was $10 over what I spent. They lost not only my trust, but any of my business there ever again. Mind you, I've worked in retail and understand it can be stressful. This was a good breakfast find and surprisingly busy at 10:30 on a weekday. Service was fast and friendly with attention to my coffee mug. I had a yogurt/fruit parfait. It was reasonable, but for the price, I expected a bit more, and while the presentation in a parfait cup was cute, when served with a regular sized spoon (not a long ice tea or parfait spoon), there was a bit of a challenge in eating all of it from the bottom of the cup without looking like a fool or keeping my hand clean. Fantastic Breakfast! We've been coming here for a few years and always enjoy the savory breakfast offerings. Fiancé gets the E O Toast (French toast) and sides of bacon and sausage and I get the croissant sandwich with eggs and sausage and a side of home fries. Their coffee is great too! Everything you look for in a good breakfast place on a Saturday/Sunday morning. Mimosas (didn't have one)and the bomb bloody mary's extra horseradish! Healthy options, although, I had the Wake Up Call (spicy potatoes and chorizo omelet) - great menu! Great service, no need to look for your waiter, available to pour your coffee or freshen up that bloody mary. There was a 15min wait, but they have an empty counter that seemed to be available. I went here with a friend while we were staying in Akron for the Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinement weekend. We were looking for a good breakfast place and found a great one in the Eye Opener. We went for breakfast on Friday and Saturday morning and I had the Wake Up Call omelette with a home fried potatoes and a side of link sausage both days. (The fact that we went two days in a row should tell you all you need to know.) The food was great, as was the service. Our servers on both days were very attentive and friendly. I noticed that most of the negative reviews of the Eye Opener are 4 to 8 years old and mostly complain about the service. Well, the owners must have addressed that issue since the service is now impeccable. We were seated quickly both days (perhaps because we arrived before 9 am) and our servers took our orders and kept our coffee cups filled with great coffee. If you like spicy I recommend the Wake Up Call omelette, but you must like SPICY. Mine was loaded with chorizo and jalapenos both days. It was the kind of spicy that makes you sweat, in a good way. The home fried potatoes are among the best I've had and the sausage was good as well. Prices are fair for diner food. We met the owner the second day and she seemed very engaged. The decor is interesting and the place is clean. As others have pointed out, parking may be an issue since it is in a small strip-type shopping center with inadequate parking. Will definitely go back when I am in Akron again. read more

I'm such a breakfast spot person. Thanks Yelp for directing me to this gem in Akron, Ohio. Needed coffee (of course) after a 5 hour drive and prior to a planned pit stop to Dr. Bob's home, the birthplace of Alcoholics Anonymous. The Eye Opener was just that. Great options on the breakfast lunch menu, lots of veggie/healthy yummies, but of course TJ got the sausage gravy on biscuit, which he described as perfect (not too salty, perfect sized sausage, just right consistency of gravy, and fluffy biscuits) and I had the Red Eye Hash. IT WAS AWESOME. chunks of corned beef and potatoes, crisped to perfection and pepper jack, cheese that just made the dish. Wow. Akron rocks breakfast. read more

I had the pastrami on pumpernickel special today. We were seated promptly and the place was pretty busy as it is sunday. I ordered a screwdriver which came in a bigger than normal glass since they were out. The drink was pretty weak but whatever I am not a big drinker. On to the sandwich it was small and the bread was pretty bland. Just pastrami and cream cheese. Chewy chewy pastrami. The fries were tasty and my roomates meals looke good. I have ate breakfast here before and is always a good choice. Service is how I want it no complaints, I only wish they put out a better quality finished dish. read more
