This inn is very quaint and cute, though definitely not the nicest place to stay. It's a little pricey for a hotel of this quality, however it was basically the cheapest in the area, so I think that's just a matter of Boston being expensive in general. It's in a neighborhood that feels pretty safe, and they offer parking for an extra fee per night. The guy who checked us in was super friendly and helpful, and he even carried our bags upstairs for us. The bathrooms here are shared, and there is one per floor, though you are welcome to use the ones on other floors if needed. The room itself was clean, just not the nicest looking. This hotel is good for young people. Th we really are stairs and the bathroom is not in the room it is down the hall and shared. There is a sink, a small fridge and a microwave in the room. Most rooms have two full size beds, or one of the rooms had one queen size bed. There are two houses next to each other with rooms to rent, they are old, yet built well. I stayed at the Farrington Inn with my fiancé from July 4th to July 5th this year. We paid $160, and for that price, the minimum we expect is a clean room and a functional bathroom. We wanted to stay the night to have a place to rest and take a shower before continuing our trip to Maine the next morning. However, both at our arrival and departure, the state of the bathtub was deplorable. It was full of dirt and hair and completely clogged. After seeing that, it was hard to rest thinking about the cleanliness of our room if that was the state of the bathroom, so we decided to sleep on top of the blankets with full clothes. Both times we tried, nobody was at the front desk to attend to us when we went to ask, and the next morning the bathtub was the same. I tried to take a shower, but when I opened the faucet, dirt came out of the sink, and I was faced with a pond of dirt. It was nauseating (see photo). I think it is outrageous that they charge $160 for such service, and that is why I put a complaint to booking.com (where I made the reservation), for a refund of the money. I was shocked when they told me that the owner had refused to return the money, and booking only offered to return 18.38 USD in Travel Credits. I honestly expected more from Booking; these are the kind of situations I use Booking for, for that extra security, but I guess they failed. I don't like leaving negative reviews, but I tried to get in contact with someone at the Farrington half a dozen times about my planned stay and could not get a call or email back, or get anyone to answer a phone call. This was really a problem because my flight was cancelled and I couldn't even make the planned stay, but they wouldn't call me back to discuss any potential refund. I wouldn't have minded if they said it wasn't possible on short notice, but I would have appreciated ANY acknowledgement that someone got my messages! At least it wasn't a lot of money. This hands down probably the worst establishment I've stayed in. The photos that are posted by the Farrington Inn aren't much better but do show the rooms in a better light. Upon entry you have have to stand at the front door where you have to wait quite sometime for an employee to buzz you in. As soon as I got in with a friend of mine, the front receptionist was rude and did not greet us kindly. He had shared parking details and when I had asked to clarify his instructions responded in contempt by rolling his eyes and questing my question, and I was still confused about parking so I took the time to go search for it afterwards. Aside from the poor customer service when you approach the check-in desk you can see their licenses with an expired Lodging License that has been expired since April 2023, it's almost October 2023. Getting your room you need to climb a long set of stairs that worn, paint peeling all around, and looks like it's straight out of a horror film. To check into your room you're given a set of keys that unlock your door. Once getting into our room we were greeted buy an odor that smells like rotting work that's faint but noticeable a small 24 inch TV that plays mostly Christianity related TV Channels both movies and preachers, and 2 bed that look worn dirty 1 flat pillow on each bed, and depression. The kitchen cabinets at broken & warped, the microwave is extremely dirty, the bathroom lights are faulty or don't work. We had our own bathroom (other guest had to shared) but I did not feel comfortable taking shower in that space. There were dead bees all over the room The ceiling including the one over our bed was separating and had holes and I would just have to say If I could do this over again, I wouldn't. I checked out at around 5 AM and couldn't handle staying in this establishment. While leaving to my car I was able to see a laundry basket with blankets just forgotten in the rain. This is my worst stay at any establishment and would recommend paying $50 more and staying at the Marriott. read more

This place was dirty for sure, but the bed was clean which is all that really mattered to me. I went in to this knowing it was probably going to be the worst room I've ever had and I wasn't wrong. That being said it was cheap, and the members of staff I interacted with were more than nice. My friend and I had a bit of a time laughing at every little thing we could find wrong with the room which was a lot. Missing tiles in the shower, dust bunnies everywhere, a remote that didn't even work for our tv, cigarette holes in things. The shower pressure was great though, oh yeah we got lucky enough to get a private bath that could barely fit one person in there, but we were grateful not to share. Know going in that it's going to be the worst hotel room you've ever stayed in and keep expectations low... and then you'll be fine. It isn't a Hyatt Regency. You're not paying $400 a night. Closer to $60. And for my $60/night (well, $70 or so with tax), I got a large clean room, solid furniture, comfortable bed, in a suite with three other bedrooms and two bathrooms. And a decent-sized living room area with a TV (not connected; bring your own Amazon Fire TV or whatever) and kitchenette (full sized fridge, sink, stove, oven, cabinets). Okay, it was spartan. No dresser. A desk with a chair and a second "comfy chair". A small closet. One towel (per person, presumably), no hand towels or wash cloths. But it was clean, nothing was broken, and it was heated. No peeling paint, no off smells. My stays in low-end motels have been much, much worse. The bathroom was dated. Decent toilet paper, a few wrapped mini-soaps and shampoos, and a large container of shower gel in the shower. No kleenex. Good water pressure in the shower. A short block from Harvard Ave and all of its restaurants and bars and life, but a quiet room.Maybe 3 blocks from the Green Line. I had a few suitemates over the three nights I was there. I think I saw each of them, once. That's how peaceful it was. I *was* in the second building, a huge quarter block from the main building. Yes, check-in was slow. The counter person shows each client individually to their room, so it might take a few minutes. Not a concern. On the whole, definitely worth the $60(ish) per night. Cheaper than any AirBNB, esp. with all of the add-on fees. And a fraction of hotel prices. I'll definitely stay there again. read more

If zero stars were possible, the Farrington Inn would receive it. Before my arrival I read many mixed reviews but disregarded them, especially ones complaining of "smells" or "rickety beds". Since I was looking for a cheap accommodation, I expected some compromises in quality, thus I had no problem with a rickety bed. However, upon arrival, we found the situation much worse. The room was VERY dirty and had a VERY strong smell. (I will admit that other than a few concerningly short and curly hairs, the bed sheets were clean.) The gold medal for our biggest issue, goes to SAFETY. There was a concerning amount of security cameras pointed directly at the bathroom and bedroom doors, especially when our bedroom door had a large gap between the top of the door and the frame. Other comments are correct, this place was absolutely like a halfway house. When venturing to the bathroom, my party opted to stand guard outside of the door as to not be separated for safety reasons. A couple more notable mentions from my stay in the Farrington Inn: There was no showerhead. The television did not function. There was no soap in the bathroom, just a comically large bottle of lotion. There was also a suspicious and concerning red/brown spot on the wall, about half the size of an ordinary person's hand. There was also a door behind the shelf in our closet, presumably connected to another room. We did not have control over locking this door. Finally, I would like to disagree with the other comment that states "Stay in the Farrington if your only other option is to sleep on the streets". Booked a stay for a night way with my 8 year old daughter after a concert. Was welcomed to our first room which was in a completely different building around the block..... Got inside the room, hair all through out the bathroom, floors were full of dirt and debris, dirt towels in the bathroom, Used soap on the bathroom sink. Brought this to the attention to the office and they did place us in another room. Which upon looking it over with the manager found poop particals in the toilet, dirty microwave, same condition of the floors and body hairs all through out the bathroom. The sheets did look and smell clean along with the towels in the second room. Bigger issue once we returned we headed to bed and woke up to the heat Stuck on at 1am and our room over 90*, contacted the office and the worker showed up 20 minutes later not know how to fix the heater off so I informed him the window wasn't operating due to being screwed shut and being plexi glass, he then tried to open it again it came off the frame and he tilted it at a angle and said that's better and left the room. 3am comes around and the window came crashing to the floor, leaving the window area completely open, not to mention my daughter was completely distraught from the whole situation and didn't sleep the rest of the night, we were travel 3 hrs from home so leaving wasn't really a option at this point. I stayed up the rest of the night making sure no one or nothing came through the open window. Next morning we left I did request a refund for the horrible experience and night this accommodation was and one of the workers Chris called me back was the only pleasant person I came in contact with this whole time and he issued what I paid for the stay back to my card. Don't be fooled by the appealing "cheap" price of this hotel. Take this as a warning from someone who usually loves a good bargain...this place is a hard pass. The location is convenient (plus there's a free parking lot), but that's pretty much where the positives end. I started getting cold feet when I arrived and was shown my options. I ended up upgrading to the room with a private bathroom for $20/night. The price quickly no-longer became the budget hotel I was expecting, but the cheaper, shared-bathroom room option was almost laughable - I was taken to a different building, up three flights of stairs, and led into what could barely be called a room. It was a cramped attic space with a stained rug, broken blinds, and no way I was staying there. I was honestly stunned they even thought it was acceptable to show it to me. The room I settled on was slightly better, but certainly not worth $150. The hallways that led to my room were creepy and reeked of cigarettes. Inside the room, I found a single, worn-out towel, an ancient microwave, and - wait for it - leftover takeout from the previous guests under the bed. The bed itself was a nightmare with a noticeable dip in the middle, and the blanket provided was scratchy and thin. The cheap blinds did nothing to block out the morning light, but honestly, I couldn't bring myself to cover my eyes with the filthy blanket. I checked out the next morning and chose a regular hotel just outside the city, offering the amenities, cleanliness, and comfort you would expect from a hotel, for ~$100/night. Something between an Airbnb and a hostel with private rooms, this European style guest house is an affordable way to see Boston. There are single, double and 3 & 4 room suites, some with kitchenettes. The bedrooms and bathrooms are clean. Staff is friendly and helpful. Clean towels are provided. Wi-fi and parking are free. I stayed in a private room with a shared bathroom during November. The room was warm and a short walk to the Allston neighborhood eats. Refuge cafe is a good place to find coffee. If you stay here, you have to try Regina's - one of the oldest pizza joints in Boston! For $45/night, the place is totally worth it! I will definitely be back! read more

Please do not book here without looking at the reviewer's photos. This is the most disgusting, foul place I have ever been. Toenail clippings on the carpet, questionable dried fluids on the walls, thick grime on the baseboards- I do not understand how it can seem okay for these people to charge $100 a night to stay here. How is it possible to maintain a place in such filthy conditions? Zip a vacuum between guests, hell- hire a cleaning service to come once a month! My nervous system was fried the whole time I was here because I felt unsafe being in such a disgusting room. I will say that the bedding seemed clean, there were fold lines on the linens but a minuscule amount of effort as far as cleaning would really go a long way here. I normally take my shoes off as soon as I cross the door threshold but I only took them off when I laid down in bed because I did not even want my socks to touch the disgusting carpet here. read more

We had to book this place last minute. Originally planned to stay for three nights but after our first night here we can't run away fast enough. The bathroom toilet is clogged and unflushable, there was a dead cockroach in the bathrub and I ended up forgoing a shower and I dreaded it every time I had to use the bathroom (twice). I'm thankful I brought wet wipes. There were three toilet paper rolls in the bathroom (pro) but they were all wet (con). One communal bathroom with bathtub for more than five rooms. Each room can fit two or more people. Our bedsheets are really disgusting actually. I noticed burnt marks (or holes??) on them and I ended up putting them aside. Good thing is the ac works great so you won't be too warm!! The ceiling looks wet or moldy, probably from water damage. The price was not cheap enough for us to want to stay (109$ + tax). We ended up booking a room that is 30$ more expensive at another hotel that is much, much better equipped. Overall, I feel like I would only recommend the place for my worst enemies. Not a great quality inn, but I guess its not terrible. The staff was really friendly, the room and bathroom were clean, and there's WiFi and a TV. However, I expected more for the price ($120 for 2 full beds, 1 night), but I guess in this location its more expensive. The wifi is either really slow or does not work at all. I could access poor WiFi for about 15 minutes, and then it completely stopped working. On Expedia it advertised free breakfast, but there is none. The building is kind of old, so its creaky, there is some peeling of paint, and the lights are dim. (So its a bit creepy). There is a random door in the room with a lock but no handle, which made it significantly more creepy. Also a couple of the ceiling tiles were slightly misplaced. Don't come here if you are a wimp (like me. thank goodness I came with a friend). In addition to that, the bathrooms are in the hallway, so you have to share with other people living there. Let's face it...cheap accommodations are not easy to find in Boston. Especially at the last minute. I was supposed to leave the day Hurricane Florence made landfall, and I knew Logan and every other airport was going to be crazy. So I decided to stay in the city a few extra days. The problem was, the place I was staying didn't have any rooms available, but I was able to get a room at the Farrington Inn through booking.com. Because the stay was going to be more than just a couple of nights, they gave me a room with a private bath and a kitchenette. I can't speak to the rooms in the original house or the shared bathrooms. Given what others have said, I'd suggest trying to make sure you get a room in one of the other houses. That said, it is a cheap inn, but it did what I needed it to do. I was able to sleep and have a warm shower--pretty much all I require when traveling. Andrew helped me with my bags and showed me the room. He was great, giving advice about laundromats and other places in the neighborhood. Yeah, the houses are old, and the rugs in the hallways are stained. I didn't notice any of the obnoxious odors others have complained about. There was a small cockroach in my room, but I've camped with bugs, so to tell the truth I didn't really care all that much. I know it would freak out some people, though, so just thought I'd give that warning. The bed was probably the worst thing about the room. It was one of the old spring bed frames, except there wasn't any spring left in it. It sagged badly and my back really hurt in the morning. Other than that, it was fine. There was a small desk along with the kitchenette, the bathroom was pretty clean, and I was able to spend an extra couple days in the beautiful city of Boston without bankrupting myself. If you want everything nice, then you probably need to spend two to four hundred dollars a night at a different place. One star is a compliment... Yikes. We stayed here for about 20 minutes contemplating our escape. Listen, the staff is nice...too nice (but no really, shoutout to the woman who works there you deserve better). What's the secret behind this place? I would like someone to investigate. This place is crazy. Honestly sleep in your car, considering they only have four (4) parking spots for their guests anyway. First things first, it looks like a horrid frat house. You'll probably circle the block a few times trying to find it. Once you get inside -- well try to -- if someone is actually at the front desk, you'll quickly realize it's not the place you'll be staying. Ps. They'll have you pay first. ASK TO SEE THE ROOM BEFORE YOU CONFIRM PAYMENT. After waiting for someone to come to show you to the room, you'll be handed a dinky key ring that has two (2) keys for the BUILDING NEXT DOOR. Yes, this place is a horror film in the making. If you're lucky like us, you'll be taken to the third floor. Aw yes, the sweet sweet smell of urine stained walls follows you with every step. Also, you'll be able to see into your neighbors door...WHEN IT'S SHUT! These doors don't even fit into the frames, you'll experience it for yourself when you try to lock your own door. What is that on the comforter? Blood? Bodily fluids? Wax? Who knows! Just pull the comforter back for even MORE surprises! Maybe you'll get lucky and find stains, or even better, the last guests' hair!!!! But you see, we had the best luck and won them ALL! Oh, the shared bathroom you might ask? I booked through Hotels.com last minute only to have to cancel my plans last minute due to unforeseen circumstances. I would think that at the time I booked I would have been notified that the hotel's window to cancel with a refund had already closed but nope, so here we are. In my estimation 30+ hours cancellation notice is pretty reasonable. The staff on the Hotels.com call line did their best to try to get my money back or at least get me a reduced penalty rather than get stuck for full price of the room. I know I made a mistake and should have meticulously studied the fine print, but the hotel could have been a bit more flexible in this case. It just feels like a bait and switch - "free cancellation if you cancel yesterday." I learned two lessons here - print out and pour over a hotel's policies and procedures with your lawyer before booking anything, and don't reserve a room at The Farrington Inn. read more

This place will give you the f**ing creeps. I'm not a picky person when I just need a cheap place to crash, but this establishment has the honest to God, "Bates Motel" hair-raising aura of lurking evil... or something. It's an ANCIENT, decrepit converted duplex house in a residential neighborhood, and the staff have to be summoned up from some unknown depths in the basement, or somewhere, via phone or intercom, as if they were Igor coming to help Master with his nefarious plans. Meanwhile you are under the glassy, watchful gaze of a deer head mounted above the fireplace (it turns out, that there is a camera in this deer head). Go ahead, sign the... guest book... while you wait. Hair on your neck standing up yet? Rates, even last-minute during the holidays, weren't too bad, but they're not rock-bottom discount rates either. For your not-that-cheap fee you will get a room that feels like you are borrowing some poorly-employed friend's shabby room. Like, an ordinary twin bed with worn-out sheets and blankets that may not have been changed recently. (There was massive pizza sauce smeared on one of my sheets.) You might have a few random pieces of assorted Goodwill-type furniture in there too--just try not to touch any of it, or at least wash your hands if you do. As a courtesy to the reader, I will not even mention the decaying bathrooms--which, for most rooms, are *shared*. How this place can maintain a license to operate, I do not know. I would definitely avoid this place if you can....it's really not worth what they charge and the most basic of amenities are not provided. Here's my story: I was moving from Allston to Chicago and needed a place for my mom (who flew in to help me drive my U-Haul) for one night since my bed was gone. The Farrington Inn is literally a block from my apartment and, we figured, the cheapest option. But not really: the room was $150. When I first checked in, they brought me to a room and I immediately noticed a large swarm of mosquitos. I asked if they could do anything about that. An employee disappeared, only to return to say that he couldn't find the bug spray and our best bet was to try to use a wet towel to kill them. I was like, dude, I'm paying $150 to stay here, I'm not going to play exterminator. FIX THIS or put me in another room. We were moved to another room. Now, room #2 was fine, bug-free and clean. But: --There was no soap of any kind in the bathroom. I wasn't expecting mini shampoos, but soap? Not even hand soap? Come on. --There was one not-full roll of toilet paper. No kleenex/tissues of any kind. --Despite there being a full kitchen, there was no coffee maker. There was a bunch of other appliances and dishes, but no coffee maker. For this kind of basically-hostel experience, I did not expect to pay $150. If the room had been like, $75, ok. But $150? It's not like it's a prime location, it's not in central Boston, it's in Allston. So yeah, if you're going to pay over a $100 anyway, might as well stay someplace with soap. What a vile hellhole! To be fair, there are a couple of decent things about this place, so here goes: Only three beds to a room, and my room had a t.v. and a microwave. Encounters with employees are rare, but when you DO meet them, they're pleasant enough. And the neighborhood - Allston - isn't that pretty, but at least there are bars and restaurants nearby. But these modest pros are far, far outweighed by the cons. The place is filthy. When you walk in, there's so much dust in the air, it almost appears misty. The bedrooms are rarely cleaned, so garbage piles up in the can - and, since the cleaning crew isn't that diligent, under the beds as well. Everything's run down and falling apart. There are bed bugs. The sheets - some of which once belonged to Massachusetts General Hospital (it's printed on them) - have cigarette burns and stains that I'm pretty sure are blood. The bathrooms are no better. Some reek of cigarette smoke. One even lacks a doorknob. If you get stuck using that one, be prepared for people walking in on you when you're stepping out of the shower (fun!). Due to the low prices, some of Boston's less wealthy citizens take up residence here. The woman in the room next to me was apparently living there. She could be heard screaming obscenities at her son (and neighbors) at any time of the day or night (and we're talking LATE night). One time, cops were called. A few days later, she was served a warrant. No kitchen. No lockers. No laundry facilities. No lounge areas. No WiFi (though you might be able to leach off a neighboring building). The previous poster wondered how this place can keep its business license. The answer, apparently, is that they can't: As of my stay there (fall 2007), the posted license and inspection certificate were both expired. I came up to Boston last week for some meetings, to look at apartments and to do some interviews, and needed an immediate place to stay (but I didn't want to pay a ton of money). It is definitely a "budget" inn - there is no exercise room, there is wifi (but it goes up and down), there is a shared bathroom (it's not as bad as some hostels and apartments that I have been in, however), and the TV only had a few basic cable channels. Also, it is a bit of a walk from the Green "B" line train and also a few blocks from the 66 bus line. The plus is that there is a decent coffee shop down the block (which I will review) and it is very close to Common Ground and also to some decent stores and restaurants. The staff of the inn were nice - when I asked for an extra blanket they brought it (and, no it did not have bugs or holes) and they let me keep my bags in the inn while I went out for meetings even after I checked out (I came back later to pick up my suitcases). Don't get a room in the back of the inn or on the first floor if you can help it - if there is construction in the building/ neighborhood it is very loud at all hours, and it will keep you awake. If you need just a bed, a warm shower and someplace in Boston for a few days, then the inn is OK. I didn't have a horrible experience, but I am trying another budget inn on my next trip. I do recommend making a reservation if possible, as it may/ can lower the rate of the room and also it will lock in the lower rate. They do take credit cards as well, in case there is a problem with the room. read more

If you're looking for affordability and proximity to a lot of Boston's more hidden treasures, this inn is great for both those factors. However, only good for those two factors. The staff proved to be very helpful and friendly, the hotel was not up to par, there was a strange odor in the actual hotel itself, the bed sheets were questionable, I slept onto of what I believe was a cigarette ash mark, the bathrooms were not specified to be shared meaning, the remote broke down half way through the night, a lot of signs of aging that doesn't particularly add to the charm of being in an old inn. Truly Disgusting. I had two asian friends visiting who stayed here and couldnt make it through the night- they said they were afraid and the girl was in tears. When we went back to get the remainder of their nights back ( made them pay in cash, up front? ) we had big issues trying to cancel thier stay. Please don't try to "brave" it- I'm telling you it's honestly not worth it. I've stayed in many grunge hostels around the world but this isn't that. My holiday inn express was the same rate, and worth the 20 minute drive. read more

The bed was itchy, we couldn't sleep all night. It's either the detergent or bed bugs...? The inn is not worth the price. The bathrooms are shared, and not very clean. So disappointed. We were hoping it was a gem, and it was quite the opposite. read more

The Farrington Inn - Bathroom!!! - Hotels Near Me - Allston, Massachusetts

Like others have said, it costs too much money for what it's worth, but if you need a last minute non-hotel option (like I did), I think the place is acceptable for one night. The location is okay, as it is near the green line as well as near several buses. I didn't have any horror stories about my room-- it came with a small kitchenette and air conditioning, and the staff member who showed us around was very nice and helpful. read more

When we first got to the inn, it was apparent it was very old. Not a big deal. However we got to our room, in a next door building, and there were cigarette burns on the comforter, the mattress was disgustingly sunk in in the middle, bathroom was atrocious. I slept on top of a towel on the top of the bed because I was too grossed out to get under the covers. We cancelled first thing in the morning after 1 night. Would NOT recommend!! read more

Let's take this place for what it is! My friend absolutely hated this place. There were stains everywhere, you have to share a bathroom, and the room wasn't in the best of shape. However, you just cannot beat the price for the convenience of this place. We booked the room for $50 on hotel.com to see a show at the Brighton Music Hall. I was blown away! Within walking distance, we were able to locate the venue and great eating spots! Yes, this place is not fancy at all. Cheap motel vibes, but seriously it's just so conveniently located that it was possible for me to overlook the negatives. read more
