Excellent dinner choice. Location is intimate with upstairs and downstairs seating. We were greeted upon arrival and immediately escorted to our upstairs table. The servers upstairs greeted us and we were seated and given menus. We reviewed and couldn't decide exactly what we wanted as there were many excellent looking dishes to choose from. For starters we had the Seared Foie Gras (a recommendation from the server), crawfish ravioli and fried oysters. Oysters had several flavors - fruit chutney, bbq sauce, pork belly and it all came together nicely. The crawfish ravioli was flavorful but still needed salt and pepper. The foie Gras was the surprise of the evening. It was crispy on the outside, cooked to perfection and served with bacon and a fruit chutney. Delicious. Each entree comes with a garden salad or you can upgrade to spinach or Caesar salad. I chose the potato soup. Yum! And my friend chose the spinach salad with warm bacon dressing. Finally time for the entrees. I had the sea bass. It is served with lobster, mashed potatoes and corn. Omg!!! It was cooked to perfection. My friend had the house made fettuccine and added shrimp. The pasta was ok but the sauce should have been more flavorful. It was lackluster at best. The shrimp was quite flavorful and delicious. Added some salt and pepper and it was better. Both portions were large and we couldn't eat it all. Overall, I want to go back and try the things that i didn't try. The octopus and the scallops come to mind. Service was excellent. The service was good, but a little slow at the end as we waited on our check. The food did not live up to what I'd expect from a fine dining experience. We ordered escargot, bone marrow Rockefeller with fried oysters, lobster cakes as appetizers, Caesar salad and a broccoli based soup, and then sea bass and salmon for the entrees plus beignets for dessert. We had the still rose and a couple cocktails that were nice. The focaccia bread that comes with the meal was tasty, but we didn't enjoy the garlic paste and oil - adding salt to it made it better, but butter would've been tastier. The Caesar salad was fine, but we felt the soup lacked flavor and had the consistency of baby food. The bread in the center of the escargot appetizer had the consistency and taste of wax, but the escargot and mushrooms and the sauce they were in were tasty. I would've enjoyed the bone marrow a lot more without the Rockefeller spinach and cheese because it hid its wonderful flavor. Everything about the lobster cakes was delicious! My sea bass dish was also delicious and my husband enjoyed his salmon dish. And the entree portions were very sufficient. The beignets were delicious as well. Overall, I expected the dishes to have more artistic presentations and an impeccable taste based on the price point. Focusing more on presentation and taste (keeping it simple and letting the nicer ingredients shine) would help. Also, we reserved a table about a month before and had to take porch seats as the others were taken. It was one of the colder nights of the year, so was understandably not quite adequately heated; I kept my coat on for most of the meal. The Fig Tree Restaurant deserves all of the praise. It is a fine dining restaurant in the Elizabeth neighborhood of Charlotte, located in a charming historic house off of Seventh Street. It is expensive, but well worth it for a special occasion or celebration. My wife and I came to Fig Tree to celebrate her birthday and as a part of our little staycation in Charlotte. My first impression was how well they are handling Covid. We felt very safe throughout our experience. They are taking limited reservations, staggering reservation times, spacing tables apart, and have outdoor seating even in the winter. We went on a very cold night in December and decided to sit outside on the front porch. They have heaters all outside and tables spaced out well. They also enforce social distancing and all of their servers wear masks throughout the experience. I know that Fig Tree is known for their Elk Chop and Veal Chop, so going in I knew that I was going to order one of those. After a convincing recommendation from our server, I landed on the Veal Chop. My wife ordered the Sea Bass special and we ordered scallops as our appetizer. The veal chop was a great choice. I had it prepared Medium, and it was perfectly cooked. It also came with jumbo shrimp, fingerling potatoes, asparagus, and topped with a sherry garlic butter sauce. I shamelessly cleared my plate, and it was actually a good portion. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her Sea Bass, which is really saying something, considering she doesn't normally like fish. My only complaint was the serving size on the scallops. There were literally two. Great flavor, but two chews and you're done. As good as the food was, I think the best thing about our experience was the service. The Fig Tree Restaurant must hire great people and train them well, because you could tell that service was a top priority for them. They do a great job of making this restaurant and experience feel sophisticated and romantic without being stuffy or unapproachable. They even brought out a dessert with a candle that said "Happy Birthday" for my wife. This is a Charlotte Fine Dining Gem, and I would highly recommend for a date night, special occasion, or celebration. The food presentation was beautiful, the restaurant is located in a house and had a great ambience, the water service was very VERY good (my glass was barely ever empty and I drink a lot of water...), and the wine was great!! Yes, I know it's socially acceptable to go out and dine while social distancing measures are in place - but that isn't my reality. Because of me, we have to stay in forever extra quarantine mode. Where does Fig Tree come into play? By having probably the best food in Charlotte AND having the best servers/bartenders. They were great over the phone making sure my food was ordered exactly to the tee. When I arrived, it was perfectly on time (literally to the minute). They went through the order with me, made sure everything was packaged in a way that nothing would be disturbed during transit and when it got home it was still piping hot! Perfect. So thoughtful, so nice and patient with me even though it was a Friday evening. My family and I got to enjoy the finest dining from the comfort of our dining room. My fiancé isn't keen on lobster but was raving over Fig Tree's Maine Lobster dish. His son doesn't particularly enjoy grains or veggies but he got the Lamb Tenderloin with the Pistachio-Mint cous cous and asparagus... Well, lets just say that the plate was licked spotless. I got the Fettuccine Arrabiata and it was so good that I had to share with my fiancé. I also don't think you can go wrong with any appetizer choice. We finally found "our special place!" My husband took me here for an early Valentine's Day dinner and to celebrate something else important in our lives. From the moment we walked in until the moment we left, we felt welcomed, cozy and at home. The staff / waiters were very knowledgable about the dishes on the menu, what wines would pair best and they were very friendly. The food was truly phenomenal -- perfectly cooked and extremely flavorful. It was not an issue in the least to have the chef make some accommodations to the meal I ate because of food allergies. When I moved to Charlotte, many people told me that The Fig Tree was a must try and a Charlotte staple. A few people even told me this was their favorite restaurant in the city, so obviously I had to check it out. When I went, I ordered the sea bass with the lobster on top. The meal was great. The fish was fresh and had a lot of flavor. For dessert, we enjoyed the beignets, and let me tell you, I could have eaten this for my entire meal. They were delicious. Our server was exceptional. She was great about checking in on us and gave great recommendations off of the menu. The only reason I gave this place a 4 out of 5 stars is because of how quiet the restaurant was. You could hear someone drop a pen it was so quiet in there. I prefer to eat somewhere where it doesn't feel so stuffy and that I'm the loudest person in the room. The service was exquisite and so was the food and the wine list was extensive. As for the items we had: The mushroom bisque. 9.5 out of 10. The flavor was incredible. I would have like to have seen some buttery croutons in the soup. The Caesar with the calamari was a nice combination. Not to mention the homemade focaccia. Had to try this place out while we were in Charlotte. It was on multiple lists of best restaurants in the area. Easy reservations via Open Table. We got there on Sunday for dinner - parking in the side lot or on the side street. The place is super charming and quaint. With a wrap around porch with additional seating, there were plenty of options for your dining preferences. It is a converted home so don't expect your typical restaurant setup. They start you off with some delicious bread and garlic spread. They serve individual pieces of bread at a time and are very efficient in refilling your empty side dish when you're done. We started with the stuffed calamari. This was delicious - the chorizo was very flavorful with just enough heat and the calamari was tender. The accompanying sauces worked very well with each bite. The salads were just meh for me. I was excited to try their Caesar/balsamic dressing but was a bit unimpressed. I ordered the parpadelle and my bf ordered the infamous elk. I thought I saw on yelp I could ask for a spicy vodka sauce but our waiter said no, they didn't do that. Pasta was still delicious and super flavorful chock full of veggies but I would've liked to have tried their pink sauce. My bf really enjoyed his elk - not having ever had it before, he thought it was delicious, not gamey at all and cooked perfectly. Let me start by stating, last month we had the opportunity to dine at a Michelin Star Chef/Owner restaurant up north. After enjoying their tasting/wine pairing we wondered if there was any restaurant in our hometown that could compare. Indeed there is, the Fig Tree. We ordered their Chef surprise tasting paired with their selection of wines. The food would definitely rival any Manhattan MS restaurant and the wine pairing was generous and very good. My husband and I came here for our anniversary dinner after hearing rave reviews, and this restaurant certainly lived up to its name! We had reservations, which I highly suggest making, even for a Sunday, just to be on the safe side. We started with the scallop appetizer, which I highly recommend. There were two scallops and they were absolutely delicious! The crust on top, paired with the sweet potato/potato concoction was melt in your mouth phenomenal and I wish I had 10 of them. For the entree, my husband when with the elk. He loved it, and said medium rare was the perfect temperature. The sides, he said, weren't matching the caliber of the elk, with the spaetzle taking like straight smoke. I ordered the grouper with lobster, and the grouper was clearly fresh and prepared beautifully. I also loved the black rice it was served with, both in taste and color contrast to the white grouper and lobster. We passed on their desserts, even though they sounded amazing, as we had some frozen wedding cake for our one year anniversary. The servers provided us with two small truffles, that tasted like fall heaven. They even wrote happy anniversary on our plate in chocolate. We were brought here for a birthday celebration where a friend was treating us. I'm not a big fan of this kind of fine dining because I worked in it for a while in Charleston and it doesn't excite me, and it's very expensive. We went in before our reservation and sat at the bar, they had a few drinks which they really liked including and old fashioned and pinto Grigio. The bartender was kind enough to share the name of the wine. We sat and our server came out to greet us and give us the specials. I liked her cactus earrings. But I don't remember her name. She took our order and brought us out bread with a roasted garlic spread. The bread was house made, very good. Garlic spread could have used a little salt. Next we got a cheese plate, very good selections. I was surprised however they didn't have N.C. cheeses. Then we got our salads/soups. I had the house salad, it was good, the lettuce was fresh. Croutons were a little hard to eat but that's a "me" problem. The servers assistant offered us freshly grated parmesan and fresh ground black pepper to add to our salads/soups. The person that got the tomato soup is a pretty picky eater, he really enjoyed it and so did everyone that tried it. Three of got the Elk Chop which came with spaetzle, Cabbage with bacon and a Dijon sauce. One got the filet with fingerlings and one got the snapper special over risotto. I got the elk chop medium well and my s/o ordered it the same way. Mine came out great, his was underdone but he didn't want to complain and ruin anyone's dinner, he just only ate half of it. It was good, I think they need to bring out different knives to use because elk doesn't cut like a filet mignon, it's a little tougher because it has less fat. The pieces are so big also it is kind of awkward. I really enjoyed the rest of the plate. The spaetzle was very well done, liked the sweet and sour of the cabbage and the Dijon sauce was creamy and well balanced. There was supposed to be horseradish in the dish but I didn't really get that. But I like horseradish to bring a kick. Lastly we got two birthday desserts. One was the beignets with ice cream. The other were cute little semolina and chocolate cookies. The beignets were good, pretty light which was nice. I loved the cookies. read more

He was so friendly and helpful to get recommendations for our entree and even gave us a little thank you note with the bill. He recommended a perfect wine to pair with my Sea bass and my mom had the veal chop, which was delicious! My mom had the escargot which was the best! The sauce, outstanding! Fantastic dinner at The Fig Tree! I was part of a large group dinner while attending a conference. I was told by several folks that this was one of the better restaurants in Charlotte and it didn't disappoint! The ambiance was very upscale casual in a converted house. The service was impeccable, which was impressive considering a party of about 20 people. Sampled several appetizers including the cheese board and the fried oysters and pork bellies, all of which were delicious. As a large group, our wines were pre-selected, but I heartily recommend the VASO Cabernet, especially with the Elk which I ordered. The only thing that was underwhelming, and that was just because it was served in between the amazing appetizers and entree, was the mixed greens salad which was good, but nothing to write home about. The desserts were to die for. I can vouch for the beignets and the cheesecake, but I'm sure there's not a bad one on the menu! The Fig Tree is epic, but it's also epically expensive, so be prepared to drop some cash. Worth it? Yes, but reserved for a special occasion. read more

Just finished up our second visit to the Fig Tree last night and both were three star experiences but for different reasons. Visit 1: Food was exquisite, fully of love and joy, surprises, and impeccable execution. Waiter knew the menu front and back and authentically engaged with us around our selections and satisfaction. Why three stars then? We were seated upstairs in an almost empty dining room far far away from every other paying customer with the exception of a large family with multiple children running around the table and being very loud. We were placed here either because 1) we are people of color or 2) because my partner who is a physician came straight from responding to an on call so that we could make our reservation on time and ended up having to wear scrubs to the restaurant. I would have appreciated transparency about this decision by the hostess as being shoved into a deep dark corner of a restaurant that isn't that busy doesn't feel very good at this price point. Visit 2: Exact opposite experience. Reserved a patio table for Valentine's Day. Great view/ ambiance / table... mediocre everything else. The waitress seemed distant and not so welcoming though she was professional and provided recommendations when asked. She just didn't really seem like she took pride in her job or wanted to be there. Somewhat robotic, going through the motions, but doing nothing to make our meal an *experience* (unlike our first visit). The food was honestly uninspired. I don't know how else to explain it other than to say It tasted like someone sad made it. There was no joy, no surprise, and little complexity to the dishes. The best thing we had was the tuna appetizer and the cheese plate. The veal chop was a good quality cut of meat, but the sauce and sides left much to be desired and I did not eat even half of my food. Same for the Mediterranean barramundi, which was the special. This one definitely had more flavor, but still felt very much like something we could make at home with ease. It also needed salt. The waitress never inquired as to why more than half of our meal went uneaten, and just asked us if we wanted itThe beignets and the cheese cake we had for dessert were also just alright. The first time I went to the Fig Tree, I left saying hands down this is the best meal I've had in Charlotte, and this place can compete with fine dining experiences I've had in SF, LA, and NY. I can no longer say this with confidence after our second time around. Upon entering The Fig Tree Restaurant, I was told that they were fully booked for the evening. Luckily, there were open spots at the bar. After sitting down, the bartender took my order in a timely fashion. I was surprised to see ostrich on the menu. Never having eaten ostrich, I just had to get it. The ostrich had a rough texture, perhaps being most similar to beef. It tasted similar to a lean steak but with a slight distinct flavor. Regardless, the brandy-green peppercorn sauce that accompanied it added the perfect amount of flavor to the ostrich. The lentils complemented the ostrich, but I didn't feel that the lentils really added any additional flavor or character to the dish. read more
