We had fish and chips, and a couple of beers. The fish and the fries had a good flavor, they were well cooked and fresh. My one issue was the grease wasn't hot enough, so slightly soggy fries and a little overly greasy fish. The batter was a little wet so we ended up with frizzy batter which was an interesting texture and otherwise didn't affect the taste. Beers were local and delicious. Weathered parts that still look good on the wall of a bar, kind of like Dolly Parton. It wouldn't surprise me to see the American pickers here. The genuine antiquity of these steel pieces of Americana will have you chanting 'Go Greased Lightning' after a couple margaritas. This small but efficient menu is diverse in colourful dressings like Don Cherry's suit closet. That's a hockey night in Canada joke for all the puck heads out there. Go Canucks go! Our time will come. Mamma Mia sandwich had a juicy, blackened chicken alongside standard Greek accoutrements but in a much different and refreshing way. A little too low on the old pH scale for me but the people of Washington don't look like they mind a tab of acid. Sorry I meant 'tad'. A small glimpse into a seemingly more enjoyable era where nobody needed seatbelts. Safety was a construct and lead was in anything from your fuel to children's toys. I've been at The Filling station three times, and I'm convinced that their Station Fries are some of the best fries you can find. I go there for the fries. Looking like propeller blades, and lightly battered they are to die for. Even my wife who generally prefers skinny fries agrees that these chunky fries are delicious. That does not mean that the other food is bad. Au contraire. Their burger are great, and the onion rings are also close to perfection. One of my favorite menu items (yes, I have one after only three visits) is the burger combo. That is a full portion of Stratton Fries (see above) and a small burger (somewhat larger than a slider) that comes with onion, lettuce, pickle, and dressing that makes it a very tasty little burger. Their bigger burgers are also great, as is the service. There is also a good list of beers and ciders. Their happy hour is between 2-5 PM daily. read more

For the fact that this is a casual burger joint? My time was 5 stars for sure The wait to get seated for a busy time was very low. We were seated quite instantly. The waitress was very pleasant to be around, very friendly for me and my girlfriend and she checked up on us in a decent manor. Not too much, nor little. I love this place, we almost always stop for lunch when we're in Bellingham. It's right in Fairhaven, which I think is the cutest area of Bellingham and there is always parking close by. It's casual and comfortable, but the food is delicious and well made. I think it's awesome that you can get any burger as a bowl and they add a ton of lettuce to make it a really hearty meal. My husband really likes the burgers and they offer a few different sides. The beer selection is mostly local and tasty, with a cider thrown in there as well. Last time I had a yummy mimosa. Found The Filling Station on Yelp as we were traveling from Vancouver to Seattle after our cruise. Many in our group desperately wanted burgers after our week of cruise food, so we thought The Filling Station would be a good choice. The building is pretty cool, set up as an old diner with old time menus and decor. They have several diner favorite type burgers such as the Thunderbird which is a classic cheeseburger with a fry sauce and The Mustang which is their take on a mushroom Swiss. But they also have creative burgers such as the jaguar which has blue cheese, arugula, onion jam and aioli, and the Lamborghini which has lamb, olives, and feta cheese. I chose the Jaguar and it was really good. The blue cheese crumbles are strong so if you don't like a strong blue cheese, you might opt for another. But I enjoyed it and between the eight of us, we tried several and everyone was pleased. Seems the Jaguar, Mustang and Thunderbird were the consensus favorites. The onion rings we're good as we're the shakes. The fries were just so so and probably the weak point of the meal. We also had the fried avocados ( can't remember the name) and they were delicious as well. They also serve chicken, salads, and other standards that we didn't try. Overall this was a great stop on our vacation and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a burger near the area. I was driving through Bellingham and did some research as to where I should stop to eat. This had some of the highest ratings from locals so I figured I should check it out. I have to be honest, this was literally the best burger I have ever had in my life. I can't remember the name but it had oozy blue cheese, some fig spread and arugula on it. Five stars because of the food AND the service. The food was really good! I had our waitress surprise me with a burger because I couldn't decide and she did not disappoint me. She brought me the Chevy Pickup (the one with BBQ sauce and crispy onions) and it was so good. The BBQ sauce was really delicious and not at all overpowering like when you get a BBQ burger at other places. The coleslaw really balanced it out! The fried zucchini sticks are great too- as well as the jalapeño cheddar ranch they come with! Like, the ranch was so good I could have eaten it with a spoon. Our waitress was so nice and friendly and very bubbly- I wish I had committed her name to memory. She made it a very fun experience! We also indulged in some cocktails because they had Olympic specials. We got one of each (Bronze, Silver, Gold) and they were all really good. And only $5 each! The two stars only are there for the burgers themselves. This location is absurd. They don't answer the phone for togo orders because "they don't have the staff to handle phone orders" which is laughable because the bartender could easily do so. Really anyone working could easily take one. But then again, it's Bellingham and the service industry here is seriously lacking.
