The most embarassing excuse of a bartender. Denied my friends ID because "it looks different then the others", proceeded to try to not give it back when it is REAL, & hand off the ID to people sitting across from us at the bar to get their opinion. He then told us we could not call the police to confirm the ID because they are a private establishment. Simply just looking to embarass a group of 23 year olds and boost his own ego in front of the older crowd surrounding us at the bar. IF I COULD GIVE ZERO STARS I WOULD. This place only favors old people. My friends and I walked into this bar and immediately had problems (all of which are over 21). They gave my friend's ID to some random sitting at the bar to check it - he couldn't even check it himself (how are you a bartender?). The random sitting at the bar then told the bartender not to give it back to her (it is her REAL ID, straight from the DMV). He then told us that, I then asked if we could have the cops come to scan it, he told me "it's a private establishment, they can't get involved." So, me now having graduated with a Bachelor's in Criminal Justice, knew this was false so, I looked him dead in the eyes and said, "I have never heard of that in my life." He then turned away from me and repeated whatever BS he originally stated in regards to the cop comment. We then left. I will never return. The only time I will EVER return is with the cops just to prove a point. They will never get a dime for me. Terrible establishment. We came here after many people told us that this was a good place to go in Wildwood..... But immediately we were treated with Cold shoulders From not only the staff, but the clientele... It was almost awkward to sit down because we felt almost unwelcome like we weren't regulars... Either way, we decide to sit down, guy IDs me... Takes my ID outside, hand it to a random man. The random man comes inside and hand me the ID back over my shoulder with a cold blank stare, mind you I'm 25 years old & with my mom... being carded isn't the issue, it's the awkwardness of the entire situation, He didn't even talk to me or say here's your ID back. He just hands me the ID over the shoulder and I see my ID in my face and I'm like oh??? Then he walks away and we continue to sit there without service, while the initial guy that we spoke to and carded us, Turns his back on us and talks to Friends across the bar and doesn't ask us if we want something to drink then... when the door opens again and a group of kids walks in, he puts coasters out in front of them and says hey, how are you doing guys do you want something to drink almost like he knows them? The second bartender walks past during the interaction goes to the other people that just walked in also without a glance, looking at us and also goes to cater to them...mind you we still are sitting with no acknowledgment or service. Went out for St. Patty's Day with my friends (all 21+ with ID's) and my friend with a darker skin tone than the rest of us was immediately denied entry because her ID was issued in Puerto Rico. The first thing out of the bouncer's mouth was "do you have a passport?" Why would she need one? She not only had this valid ID, but also a military ID AND her social security card as well as other cards with her name. We are all locals, by the way. Both the bouncer and bartender said "every ID has to be 'for the states'" as if Puerto Rico isn't literally a U.S. territory ????? And to top it off, as we were leaving, a man at the bar made a sexist joke at one of us and the bouncer just laughed ???? Horrible people working here. read more

Very surprised this place is 4.5 stars, very local only, if you're not a local you'll definitely feel it. Cheap drinks sure, food was not good. Frozen everything, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I tried to not review the Firehouse so it would stay a secret but Patricia T. let the cat out of the bag. Don't go to the Firehouse looking for craft beers, there aren't any. Go if you are looking for friendly bartenders and patrons. This is a corner bar downashore that serves up stiff cocktails and your normal run of the mill big company beers in bottle and draft. The food is pretty good and inexpensive as well. Multiple flat screens around the bar makes this a great place to watch a game regardless of what season it is. A shuffle board table and American darts round out the entertainment options. No matter what time of day or night we go to the Firehouse its always a good time. DOG-FRIENDLY PATIO BAR IS GREAT! I went to the Firehouse Tavern recently with my dog to enjoy a beer on their outside patio and watch a Phillies game on their large, outdoor TV. Waitress service outside is great. Selections include cold beer and good food at good prices. They even brought my dog a bowl of nice, cold water! I don't usually write reviews, especially negative ones...but my wife and I went in last night. There's a few names I know from people who passed in there and I've been active/inactive volunteer over the last 7 years. The gentleman at the door checked our ID's and we were good to go. We got to the bar, and they checked our ID's again, now before I leave some of this story out, she has a North Carolina drivers license, because when we met she was a resident there, and I moved up north when I got out of the Marine Corps. (My wife is 23 and I'm 21) my wife also looks a lot younger, maybe too young to be served alcohol. I understand that. My problem is after we went outside the door guy checked up on us to see why we were leaving (he was very polite) I told him they think that her ID is fake. So he took it and went back in to protest that he believed it was real, and the bartender and the other man checking the IDs told him that my wife, said that her only ID, her driver's license that she uses every day, was a fake. I gave this until the morning to complain on Yelp because I thought I'd get over it, but I've heard great things about this place and this really pissed me off. read more

Have always loved this place. As simple as you can get. I have order few items more than the pork sandwich, as it is one of the best around. The peppers and eggs is an excellent choice as well and the super dog. Although it is a no frills dive bar there are hidden frills, like the internet jukebox or the ole school shuffleboard table. I was a little hesitant to let the cat out of the bag, so to speak, on this neighborhood favorite but in giving a friend advice on where to get "real" Philadelphia food in Wildwood, this came up. First off, let me preface this by saying that most people come here to drink. It is a local bar that caters to, er, locals, mostly. That being said, it has cheap and plentiful beer and the crowd (particularly off-season, when it is just locals) is pretty fun. It is also a bar for those who have to live parallel lives to the "normal" working crowds and pull graveyard shifts. Since their world is reversed, you will find them in this bar early in the morning nursing a beer or a beer and a shot (don't judge, people, remember, night and day are opposite in this world). The upside of this is if you have a rip-roaring hangover at, say, 8 or 9am, you can come here for your hair of the dog if that's what you feel like. No one here will judge you. Second, beyond being a friendly neighborhood bar, they also have a very good kitchen. It is limited, quite so, but what they have on offer is excellent. For me, no one outside of Philly---even Tony Luke's reincarnation down in Wildwood--offers a classic roast pork sandwich any better than the Firehouse. It is simply melt-in-your-mouth wonderfulness. Get it plain or with broccoli rabe (if they have it), but do get it. They also offer pizza here that is better known as Carnival Pizza; i.e., it is round and has a thin crust. It is not my favorite thing as I like big, messy, gooey, fold-able slices of pizza but most people rave about it. It is NOT Celeste Pizza in taste at all even if it does somewhat resemble it in appearance. In either case, most of the locals love it and it's definitely good. Other menu items include chicken fingers and munchies like fries, cheese and crackers, and maybe some other items. Chicken fingers are good and meaty and if you just want to nibble, you can get a cheese/cracker/pepperoni tray that goes well with the beer. I come here for the pork sandwiches and rarely dabble but the food is good across the board. The kitchen is run separately from the bar so you need to go back to the counter, order from the ladies doing the cooking, pay (and please tip too) them there, and they'll bring you out your food. In the summer they do blue crabs and that is also something to definitely avail yourself too if you like crabs. Otherwise, a great neighborhood bar with really good food. read more

The guy from Philly that thinks you would be better off going to the Ship N' Shore, go right ahead that only leaves an empty stool for me to use. My Son and daughter in law is a firefighter and he had to go to this place being a firefighter. The woman who was sitting at the Bar when we arrived made us feel welcome. I think she was the cook. The bar tender quickly served us and she also explained to us what food they had. My Son inquired about a shirt and she promptly showed him what she had and he purchased one. This place is a total dive, but that's the charm of it. Food is legit- try the chicken cutlet sandwiches (parm style, or with spinach and prov) and the white pizza with spinach and tomatoes. Some of the best bar food on the island. It's our favorite spot to have lunch on a rainy day. If you're lucky, they'll ring the bell while you're there, signaling a round of drinks on the house.
