Small operation located a few blocks inland from the Wildwood boardwalk and below a bowling alley…read more The inside is spacious, with the slight feel of drinking in your friend's unfinished basement with the concrete floor and low ceilings with exposed pipes. My girlfriend and I came for the first time shortly after opening on a Friday afternoon in August. There were only a few other customers during our time there. The beer was pretty good. The two standouts for me were the Wah Wah Watch butterscotch ale, and the hard birch beer. I've seen plenty of NJ breweries that make their own root beer but never a hard version. They seem to be known for their seltzers and have quite a few on tap, many more than I've seen at other breweries. The staff were exceptionally friendly. One of them asked us if we could be his guinea pigs and let us try half a pint of some sort of strawberry concoction. Later when there were six of us sitting at the bar, he let us all try a full taster of their soon-to-be-released pumpkin beer, complete with a cinnamon sugar rim.

Nick greeted us and introduced himself when we walked in and sat at the bar. Super nice guy-so friendly and personable! We noticed they had hard sodas before we got there, which we were both curious about. I decided to try a latte which is a mix of their coffee porter and vanilla soda. SO GOOD!! We wound up chatting for a while with a couple about music and beer (two of our favorite things) because the music playing was so good! Overall a great time! We enjoyed ourselves and next time we go we know that we'll be ubering there and staying a while!

We went last light and once again the food was fantastic! Hubby had the French onion soup that was great. I had the crab bisque which was great has a little kick but not enough to make me not enjoy. That hit the spot on such a cold night. Then we had the steak and shrimp scampi and the seafood scampi. Both were absolutely fantastic! I went home in a food coma! Oh and did I mention over all these years Owens Pubs has found a Way to keep great food super affordable which is always a Great help while spending so much money on the boardwalk. FYI -they are cash only it's the only downfall but they have an ATM on site. Go,enjoy, what are you waiting for?

Happy hour is also decent but just like everywhere else the prices of drinks have crept up but are still reasonable. In the last 3 years I've seen the draft beer price at happy hour go from $1.50 (crazy cheap) to $4 (still a bargain) and a Vodka martini go from $6-$10. We've been coming here for many years and the food has been consistent. We noticed a change on this visit. The French onion soup was noticeably different and better than ever. The wings were just as good but they were lightly breaded (never were in the past) and had less sauce. The chicken parm was still good but much thicker and less crispy. I'm guessing a new chef.
