This hidden gem of Vancouver opened their doors more than 30 years ago!! It is a small Italian restaurant which is a 5mins walk from Broadway city hall station. I have been to this place multiple times and tried almost everything from their menu item. I was never disappointed!! According to me, they have the best cheesy garlic bread in town!! My favourites from this restaurant would be their Alfredo linguine and their lasagna. True taste of Italy! They are also very budget friendly and their portion sizes are good. Poor ingredients with misleading photos/videos on a TV inside along with a menu that seems to be missing information create a mediocre meal. I got the margarita pizza which to my knowledge is supposed to be sauce dollops of mozzarella and basil in that order. What I got was a full layer of mozzarella and then basil and then sauce and then a layer of ricotta for some reason? And then an entire layer of tomatoes. The person I was eating with got artichokes on their pizza and it seemed to be canned artichoke hearts that were just randomly thrown onto the pizza. I would definitely not recommend especially because there are very good pizza places very close by. read more

Clean and cozy pizza place. The service was friendly and we didn't have to wait too long. It's clean inside but there's not a whole lot of seating. Open kitchen concept where you can see the wood fired oven. We ordered an Italian pizza for take out. The pizza crust was perfect - the right thickness, not dry, and well cooked. Pizza was non greasy and crust was thin with lots of toppings. What can I ask for. It was delicious. So I tried the Thai chicken and the Chicago style pizza. When I got the Thai chicken onto my plate, I was a bit worried that it would be too spicy (I touched it and can't put it back in the box so I took the courage to try it). To my surprise, it was actually ok. Tasted fine and delicious. I also got a slice of Chicago. Not its not the Chicago flavor pizza (I can say this because I just recently came back from Chicago). Definitely different kind of pizza that you would get from Chicago. But nonetheless it was delicious meat pizza. It was a bit salty though. Overall, I like this place. This place is absolutely fantastic. The food is top quality homemade with love. The first time I had their delicious margarita pizza. My second time I had the pasta bolognese. Both outstanding! The portions are very generous but because it's high quality it's not heavy and I ate it all. In addition the service is impeccable. They are so warm and courteous truly caring that you are enjoying your meal. I am just passing through from New York City where the standard is so high because the competition is so unforgiving. My favourite pizza in a neighbourhood with quite a few choices! The crust is relatively thin so I feel healthy (as healthy as I can, when ordering pizza), and they have a wonderful selection of toppings ... sometimes with the trendy pizzarias I can't actually find something I like (it's got white sauce, or it's fennel sausage, or there are peppers, etc.) but for some reason Firewood's recipes simply agree with me, and I'm spoiled for choice. Service is always courteous and pizzas are made promptly. It's not really a dine-in place (even pre-Covid) but order your pizza and enjoy a walk around the lovely neighbourhood. read more

Pizza in my belly yum yum yum... I love me some good pizza. Which means I'm constantly on the hunt for good pizza spots. My boyfriend and I decided we wanted to order in pizza for the night, so after finding Firewood on Yelp and reading the positive reviews, we decided to call in. I'm not much of a crust eater unless it's stuffed or thin, and thin is the only way to go at Firewood. They only do half/half for large sizes, so it was a good thing we were feeling hungry, because we didn't hesitate when deciding on the large. The guy on the phone was very helpful and asked us clear, direct questions to make sure our order was correct. We ordered a large half Cozumel (pesto shrimp) and half Chef's Special, with a side of their housemade caesar dressing. They estimated about an hour for delivery, which was perfect because it gave us enough time to stop by the liquor store and pick up some wine. When the food got to the house, they sent us a text saying they were here. I love that businesses can do this now, by the way. Just makes your life a tad bit easier. It didn't take us long to dig in. We were able to throw the whole pie down because 1) we were starving and 2) it was just that good. I was more of a fan of the Cozumel because I'm a fan of pesto pizza, but the Chef's Special was also delicious. I'm a fan of this place. "the best things happen unexpectedly" that s the best quote that could describe my marvellous experience at this lovely restaurant/café : My friend and I were intially planning to stop by Passion8 café ( just next door) but when we passed by the Firewood Café we tried hard to resist the irresistible pizza smell but in vain...We ended up being inside the lovely pizza shop ready to order some food. The lady behind the counter was very welcoming and friendly as she brought the menu and explained to us what they had special and what was recommended and when we asked if she could make us a tuna pizza ( yes canned tuna as topping : it is a very popular pizza in north Africa and France) she apologized and she promsied that they will have it next time we come and we were so thrilled...Believe it or not the best part is yet to come as 2 minutes later the chef there told us that he has a tuna can he was gonna use for his own dinner and that he is happily willing to satisfy our request by putting it on top of our pizza...simply epic joy at that moment!!!Every single bite of the pizza was remarkable!!!Thanks again for all the staff that work in this convivial place and we will come back soooon for more tuna's pizza and calzone until it becomes part of the official menu :)) read more

Well first things first.... Don't even bother picking up your phone in ordering - or getting into your car and going to this second rate restaurant. First experience: Ordered a large chefs special minus green peppers add olives, on one half, ham and pineapple on the other half. Pizza arrives, I take it upstairs, open up the box... Extra green peppers, no ham and pineapple, and the modifications weren't even close. I called to let them know. They disagreed, insisted they were correct, and argued with me. I took a picture of the pizza, and the bill. I proceeded to ask if they would like to see both. They said no. The manager was so rude he extended a credit but not without calling me a liar. Second experience: I called and spoke with a very polite young lady, and she couldn't find the credit, but she was willing to endorse the credit. I was taken away by how nice and pleasant it was to speak with her. I don't know her name but she was working today (july12). She put the order through, pizza arrived. I took it upstairs, and looked at the pizza again. I couldn't believe eyes. Barely and toppings and I asked for extra cheese- not even half of what a normal pizza would have. I called. The lady answered - she was totally rude... Said "what do you expect me to do about it".... Second call back I asked to speak with the manager who is also the cook. He said "they endorsed the credit.... So you get what you get.... " Anyways. Worse customer service ever - manager is a slimeball- and I'm sure that staff walks on eggshells. I had been here many years ago and had remembered it being really good. I was very disappointed as the crust was terrible. It reminded me of a premade crust that you buy at the grocery store. I used to work at a restaurant called Carpaccios many moons ago and our specialty was fire wood baked pizza and pasta. We used to proof the dough properly. For family pizza always ready when we arrive and for special flavours they have been our go to. Many pizza places between here and home and we still drive here to pick up. They have a nice selection and we live the Thai chicken and shrimp and pesto and of course just pepperoni and cheese for the kids. The pizza is straight-up: D-lish. Probably because it comes straight from: a wood oven. Wood ovens: are a rarity when it comes to Vancouver pizzerias. Believe me when I tell you that it DOES make a difference when your circle of goods meets its firey-hellish, yet heavenly end for a mere fifteen minutes before it is passed-on to a worthy stomach on a cardboard platter. You wouldn't be able to find it: unless you knew to look for the bright orange awning on the East side of Cambie Street. Think again if you thought Will Smith was fresh: you'll swear that all of the toppings used here were picked right from their backyard, save for the backyard animals. I promise you, Fido is safe- it's Miss Piggy and Moo Moo Melon that you should be worried about. Try it: There's something about the crust that tastes so different. I'd really like to know what the wood oven does to make these triangle slices taste so good. Recommended main deal: Any of the veggie pizzas and definitely the margarita pizza. Best. Pizza. Ever. They don't use a ton of cheese so you get loads of delicious toppings instead of "filler cheese". The toppings are fresh, the crust is thin and crispy...and there's something about it that makes me think I'm in Italy again. It's not supposed to be panago or dominos. I just tried to order pizza from this place for the first time. Here's how it went: I call them on the phone and they answer. Good so far. But then I'm immediately put on hold. Sure, I guess they're busy -- except I can hear the clerk clearly chatting with friends. She returns to the phone and starts to take my order but then a large ringing starts. It's another phone. She asks to put me on hold again. Wtf? I hold then place my order. I ask for delivery. She quotes 45 minutes. 75 minutes later I'm starting to wonder where my pizza is. I call them again. I'm told that they got really backed up and it'll be another 15-25 minutes. That makes for 90-115 minutes -- +1.5 hours! -- for a pizza! I cancel the order. I'll never call this place again. read more
