The food is sooo delicious! I could not stop talking or thinking about how the kalua pork was by far the best pork I'd ever had. My husband thought his fresh fish plate was wonderful too. We tried to return for more greatness, but unfortunately, it was a Sunday (closed). Portions are large, and the meals are about $10/ea. Convenient location in Lihue. Meals are to-go, so plan on a fun place to take your lunch. Or you can eat in the car because you're so hungry, like we did! My husband and I were visiting Kaua'i for our honeymoon. We heard about this place from our ATV guide (Kipu Ranch!) and he was on point. We really wanted to try local Hawaiian fare so of course we had to get 3 scoops of Ahi! It's weighed to determine price so be aware of how much you're pouring on top! We went heavy on furikake and light on edamame. All you really need is some white rice, Ahi, and the wasabi aioli! I can see how this place is always crowded. All of the stuff I sampled were delicious and tasted so fresh! I had a hard time deciding what kind poke to get, but I ended up with some kind of ahi. I also ordered their salad with fish that was seasoned in furikake. The fish was seasoned very nicely, and the greens in the salad were the field greens, and not iceberg lettuce. This place also has other hot foods, and an area to build your own poke bowl. You know it's a good place when the locals go there. The only thing that made me sad was there is no sitting area, so it's pretty much all takeout. The people that work there were so nice and they let you sample pretty much whatever you want. When I go back to Kauai, this place is definitely a place I will come back to. read more

Ended up eating here twice on our trip (first and last meal since it's close to the airport). The poke was super fresh and I loved the variety of toppings they had. The staff was great and really made me feel comfortable that they got my order correct, even when it was really busy. Try bringing it to a nearby beach or find a spot facing the mountains to enjoy. This is my 2nd visit of the store. I discovered this place through my dad who was eating shoyu poke one afternoon and it was impressively good. I recommend ordering any of their poke. Its not overseasoned or underseasoned. I love their poke bowl priced differently based on scoops. And whats amazing is that you can add some of their sides and sauces such as guac, macaroni salad, seaweed, peeled edamame, so much more . Defenitely coming back before I leave the island. I only wish that they reduced their price for the bowl which starts at $12 . Update today: I ordered the usual poke bowl. Brown Rice was undercooked!!! It went straight to the trash. I was very dissapointed because I was starving. The fish was a little odd too, it taste like its been sitting in the counter for a while but it was edible. I am not sure where to begin so here I go. This place is a MUST when visiting Kauai. Obviously, I had done my research for food places before Kauai and this place was one of them. The only reason I didn't make this my first stop because they have "poke bowl style bar" coming from California, I want the good stuff in Hawaii not the stuff I can find on the mainland. We checked in our hotel and I asked the local ya know...one of them said fish express is the BEST on the island. I said OK...we will go try it. Sure glad we did because we went back 3 days straight! This place is small and have no seatings area. They have variety of poke and other entree items including bento boxes. We ended up trying; spicy lobster salad, ahi shoyu, spicy ahi and crab meat, salmon and onion, and other bento boxes. Everything was DELICIOUS. I mean I want more and more! SO HAPPY that Fish Express was my VERY FIRST Poke experience!! My first trip to Hawai'i was on the Big Island back in 2017, and can you believe I didn't eat poke the entire trip?? Afterwards, it's become more popular on the east coast NY/NJ area, but I REFUSED to try it until I came back to Hawai'i and so happy I waited. We got the Spicy Ahi Tuna Poke, Spicy Japanese Hamachi Poke, a side of scallops and seaweed salad, and 1 scoop of rice. For the two of us, this was INCREDIBLY filling, especially since we also bought spam musubi which was also super delicious. I put some wasabi mayo and spicy mayo on the side to dip, but honestly the fish tastes the best with just what they season it with. Very flavorful--savory with a hint of spice and salt. We loved it so much we went back a second time before leaving the island. Both times we got there just at opening so everything was fresh and delicious. Aloha bruddah and welcome to one of my favorite spots on the island of Kauai! My Uncle (a Kauai local) swears by Fish Express for having some of the best poke on the island. Aside from the great food, this spot will give you an insight into the local culture! This is VERY much a locals spot and you will see how kind, compassionate, and friendly the kamaianas are to each other. Unless you swoop on their poke, that is. For under $18/pp you can order a poke bowl specifically to your liking (and add your own toppings!). I went for a double dip of the crab poke and the spicy ahi. Both tasted incredibly fresh and flavorful! Remember to grab some candy on the way out! My favorites are the watermelons and the dried mango. An excellent local treat for the beach! read more

The ahí tuna is good, the spicy scallops, the octopus, lobster, ahí and crab. And the best is the topping bar which you can use as much as you want without feeling bad because you are charged for the weight. Only get the poke! I was recommended this place by a local and he said to try the ponzu poke. My wife and I got the crab poke and the ponzu poke as well. I tried the mac nut ahi with a Lillikoi sauce. That was not good at all. The fish was way over cooked and dry. Later that day I talked to another local and told me the cooked food changed and is not as good as it used to be. I'm deducting two stars because: One the people working in there were so rude and disinterested in helping us and only focused in on the locals. I was trying to check out and the cashier kept helping locals and talking to them instead. Two the place has limited parking and they chintzy on their poke scoops. We got yelled at for trying the poke inside and told us to only do that outside. So if you do come here just get the poke. read more

Kiawe smoked marlin - Its a lot more moist than the dried aku you usually find in stores. there is a semisweet glazing on it. full if flavor and doesnt kill your jaw muscles! UFOs - these are little rice balls on a slice of sausage and topped with furikake (seaweed seasoning). Not sure if this originated in Kauai, but i've only seen this prepared in Hawaii.
