Hanamaulu chicken & shrimp box lunch
    Diana T.

Food: 4/5 By recommendations, Ms. Oki suggested the hanamaulu chicken and shrimp. She says that the batter is made with many ingredients and is a crowd favorite. After ordering, I got to try it out! The batter is definitely light, crunchy and tasty with a bit of sweetness to it. Definitely different from your typical breading/ fried chicken strips. I only wish there was more shrimp (came with two shrimps) and some kind of veggie to give this meal more contrast in flavor. They do have mini box lunch specials for $7 from 10am-3pm. Not a bad deal! Service: 5/5 Ms. Oki was behind the counter and was very nice and friendly. Ambiance: 4/5 For a quick food stop it a perfect place to go to. There's outdoor seating and many restaurants to choose from in this mall area.

This is a hidden gem in a random shopping mall. The Kalua pig and the Lua Lua were da bomb. The Mac salad is also the best I've ever had. Oki is a very nice woman and the service was quick and good. The ambiance is not the best but the food made up for it. This is a must go. Trust me

This is a small spot in the Kukui Grove food court. There's no indoor seating, but there's shared outdoor seating just outside. I ordered the chicken katsu plate. The chicken was crispy and juicy with a good ratio of meat to rice. The mac salad was creamy, well-seasoned, and had a nice texture. Service was good. The person taking my order was soft spoken but kind. The food came out in under 10 minutes. Definitely a solid lunch option if you're in the area. Near this place is also the Kauai Plantation Railway and Kōloa Rum Tasting Room so this spot is a good spot to go before or after.

Wishing perhaps I had lunch instead of breakfast. I had the big omelet with sausage, bacon, mushrooms, cheese, and green onion. I didn't want rice or hash browns, but they wouldn't leave them out. There was barely any bacon or sausage. The mushrooms were canned. My friend had the pancakes, and she enjoyed those. It was so hot in there I had to go outside to wait for my food. The A/C was broken and none of the fans were on. Later I came back for drinks and Miss Oki was there. The strained relationship between her and the gentleman who works there wasn't exactly pleasant, which didn't help the atmosphere.

The Oki Lunch specials cannot be beat! We had the Neal's famous chicken and Katsu plates. Delicious! Made fresh to order and the service made us feel very welcomed by the aunty! Will be a definite comeback in the future when we come back! Don't let the food court hideaway fool ya! Great environment!

Based on my meal, it seems this place is pretty much a hit or miss depending on what you order. I got the Neal's Chicken Plate and some Pancit. The pancit was really good! I would definitely get this again. However, on the complete opposite side, the chicken plate was horrible. It was dry and overly salted, the rice was definitely old, and the mac salad was a sloppy, tasteless mess. Prices are high and hard to say it's worth it based on the mixed quality. Choose carefully!

My New Go-To Spot for a Hawaiian Plate! I've found my new favorite place for Hawaiian food, and it absolutely hit the spot. The lau lau--always my top pick--was cooked to perfection, and I can confidently say this is my new favorite spot to get it! I also tried Neal's famous chicken and the pancakes, and both were delicious. The service was just as impressive. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, who was incredibly sweet and took the time to share the story behind the restaurant with us. While the inside is more geared toward takeout, it's perfect for grabbing a plate and enjoying it back at home, at your hotel, or--better yet--on the beach. Highly recommend

Hanamalu Chicken broke da jaw. Wow! I ate right outside of Oki's and there was a band concert happening. How cool!

there was a service charge automatically added to the card. Not a dealbreaker since the service was solid, but it would've been nice to know ahead of time. Still, definitely worth checking out if you're into low-key spots with high-quality food.

Before coming here we read a lot of mixed reviews on the food. But because it was a Sunday and we needed a dinner spot before our flight out, we had no choice but to select this location as it was near the airport. Right when you walk in, the owner greets you and shares you her knowledge on the menu including the ingredients that go in them that make them so tasty! The owner was genuinely very sweet and liked to chat with my friends and I. It's a very small place and the purpose is to have quite to go lunches where you can take with you and eat outside or anywhere for that matter We ordered the loco moco which was honestly alright, not the best as it seemed like they used can gravy, however the patty itself was large and very tasty with the egg and rice all together. The neil's chicken was SO good and super flavorful! The hawaiian plate was also quite delicious. All of our meals were very hot and fresh and they give you such a good amount of food for the price, which was around $17 per plate. If you are looking for a wholesome place to grab food and you are in the area, look no further!

Hawaiian plate with pork lau lau and kalua pork.

Reviews appeared mixed, but Oki's was one of the few places open on Sunday and I wanted takeout before heading to the airport. It's located in a modest strip mall, shared by Kauai Bakery (a must visit!) and some familiar haunts like Starbucks and Jamba Juice. Mrs. Oki is a character and polarizing to Yelpers, based on other Yelp reviews. She was polite, but also a pushy saleswoman -- continuing to describe menu items even after I placed my order! My family arrived moments later and she started up with her schtick again! Lol. In the end, the food was shockingly good. It definitely has a local vibe to it, but maybe that's why it's popular with locals. The kalua pork was tender and flavorful and a nice companion to the pork lau lau, which was equally good. The rice was standard, but perfectly executed, and the mac salad (technically cut spaghetti) was good. I would have liked some furikake on the rice, but that's my own preference. At $20 out the door, this was a few dollars more than other comparable places, like Smiley's, but still within the ballpark. I wouldn't hesitate to come back on my next trip!

This place has been here for a long time. Each time we visit the food is delicious. Good value plates. The Mac salad made with long noodles very tasty. The restaurant is located near a food court with a lot of tables and seating. Oki is also the name of a kind and welcoming owner. She is always appreciative of our order.

Their " Kawali Lechón & Pancit" & Pork Laulau box lunch is so onolicious! We searched for best Laulau near me in Lihu'e and found this hidden gem. We are experienced foodies and have tried lechón and Laulau across all the island even from the 9th island. This is legit! So come experience their island "grinds". It's in the food court at the local outdoor mall.

The restaurant has gotten worse each time we visited, not sure if it has something to do with the passing of the previous owner. It is still very busy; I think it is one of the few ( if not only) places you can get saimin on the island. The menu is the same and the food came fast, but the taste was not good at all. The saimin is ok, but the won tons were overcooked and undercooked at the same time (yes, really); the side with meat was so soft and broken that the filling was falling out, but the end where they close the won ton was so hard, doughy and raw tasting. The won ton filling was this loose weird ground meat. They are the worst won ton I've ever tasted. The bbq beef sticks which used to be our favorites, were also a fail; they were so overcooked and were so tough that's like chewing on beef jerky. The best thing was the pie, which more like a cake; it still tasted like the old days. The added some new stuff like manapuas, they tasted pretty good, but they are different that the regular ones with slightly chewy chunky pale pork fillings, not the juicy red char siu that you will normally expect. I wish the restaurant will focus on the roots and the main reasons why most customers come here - to eat good saimin and bbq sticks. The new stuff like manapua and lumpia are fine. But please don't forget, the name is Hamura Saimin, and not Hamura lumpia and manapuas. I am really sad to report that after around twenty to thirty years patronizing the establishment, I DON'T think we will be coming back.

The interior is cozy, and our group felt big for the space, but we did get seated at a table that accommodated all of us. We were also very nicely accommodated in our quick service, as we had a reservation at a nearby attraction that was closing in. I asked the waiter (PJ, I think?) to select 6 nigiri sushi for me, and I also ordered a roll, as did everyone else. Everything was delicious and it's obvious why this place was crowned a Kauai Best last year. The sushi was phenomenal, the service was very welcoming, and the ambiance is ideal. Parking lot in the back was a bit small, but the establishment itself isn't very big. AMBIANCE: As I said, it's a very small place. It can hold maybe about 20-25 people. It's a tight little place with very few tables and a small sushi bar. The dim lights and natural lighting gave it an intimate ambiance. I was seated at the bar and you can watch the chefs assembling my food while being trained at the same time. SERVICE: Our server was phenomenal. I believe his name was PJ. He was quick, attentive, and gave us a good laugh every time he stopped by to check on us. You can see the trainee going through on the job training, but the food still came out in a very timely manner. They were quick and we're happy to answer any questions we had. FOOD: I'm from the Seattle where the fish is extremely fresh and we get some amazing sushi. Also been to Japan a couple times. This was definitely up there for me. Everything was delicious; from the soft shell crab, to the blue fin toro, to the popcorn shrimp. Although I did indulge a little, I believe the chef's choice would be an amazing pick with high value for someone on a budget. Surprisingly, the blue fin toro wasn't my favorite. While it did taste amazing and melted in my mouth, I found the tai snapper to have more dynamic flavor thus marginally beating it out. Also I've never had steak sushi before, but I became a huge fan of the A5 wagyu nigiri and it left me wanting more. Hands down my top 3 picks. OVERALL: I highly recommend trying this place out. I loved the food, the atmosphere, and the service. Its definitely a must visit for me if I were to come back to Kaua'i.
