Second time we've been here both returning from the shore. Forgot: Edit. VERY pet friendly. First, the service is excellent and speedy. I appreciated the selection of local beers on draft too. Found prices to be very reasonable these days. Next, the sides are out of this world. The green beans and collard greens really compete with the best Grammy homemade ones. Mac and cheese, hush puppies, and chicken tenders were on point. I thought the portion sizes were good for $3 sides. I had the ahí tacos and a side of brisket. lol. I wanted to try the brisket! The tacos has a nice flavor with an excellent sauce but the tuna was unseasoned. The biggest issue is the taco sat in juices from the toppings and became soggy quickly. A little easier on the toppings and it would be a really good dish. The brisket. Man if you hype up your bbq it better be on point. It was not. Crazy crazy dry and not really tender either. I've tried the catfish which is by far the best I have ever had! Also the Shrimp tacos, which even tho I try to get something else I always seem to get the shrimp taco. The space itself gives you a family bar feeling. Looks like it would be a great locals spot. They had enough tables for any size groups and it was very clean. For appetizers we had the fried pickles and pork rinds. I'd give the fried pickles a 2/5, they had flavor but lacked crunch. The breading was missing on 80% of the pickle. The pork rinds, FRIEND, those were probably the highlight of my meal. The sizzle and pop, the crunch, flavor...I'm drooling just thinking about them again. I don't think I can ever have them from a bag again. 5/5 Main Coarse we ordered the mac-n-skilled with pulled pork, the kids chicken taco with tots, brisket stuff shells, and brisket Philly cheesesteak with a side of hush puppies. Mac-n-skillet, the meat was a tad bit dry but had a good amount of cheese. Creamy. Only downside was the pork. 3.5/5. The Brisket Philly was cheesy, meat was good, great flavor just a bit too greasy. Hush puppies were good, nothing stood out in particular. 4/5. The kids chicken taco and tots were ok. Not enough cheese and the tortilla was hard, tots were just right. 3.5/5. Not my favorite BBQ in the world and definitely not as good as the first time I went. But shockingly the fried fish was quite tasty. Oddly enough I may even have to recommend that. Second time here and had the BBQ brisket sandwich, it was so tender and good! The bang bang shrimp was equally delicious. This place is really busy at nights and has a large outdoor area attached with plenty of seating inside and out. You can tell the locals love this place and it can get pretty loud even during lunch around the large bar area right in the middle of the main room. Always have had a good meal here, and wanted to stop by again since the server was so pleasant the last time. She made us feel at home with her personality, service is such an important asset that one will remember, it brought us back from afar. Employees are the face of the restaurant and I believe it is imperative to have the best well trained crew to represent a great experience! I got the pork and catfish platter. It came with Cole slaw, pork, fried fish, and a side of mac n cheese. This was absolutely amazing. Some of the best Mac n cheese I have ever tasted. The fish was fried perfectly and remained flaky. The pork was also really flavorful and was great with the the Carolina vinegar bbq and sweet bbq. Cole slaw was also really good. Everything seemed off to us. First we felt a little forgotten when we first got there. Only got one refill which for me is no bueno. I ordered the half rack of ribs. I'm wondering why people don't season their food in Virginia. The ribs were plain tasting as could be. Not even smoky or charred like good bbq should be. From bussers, to host team and wait staff, they all had a git'r done urgency to everything, but gave the guests all time they needed to say their say. At first brisket shells sounded interesting, but as an entree today, I wanted more variety this first go'round. So did the Crab Dip special, but I went with the sampler to get the lay of the land. Puppies were light, fully cooked and has a crispy crust! Fried cat fish was thankfully light on coating, but had lots of crunch and tender fish. It's casual and our server was super nice and informative. The pork skins were so good! Hot and still popping when we were crunching on them! Food was large portions! So you better be hungry! The pork was tasty, moist and smoked really well and sauces on the table to choose from. My catfish and hubs was really good and we liked the batter they use. My husband, dad, and I were passing through with my dog. I called ahead to confirm they were dog friendly, and the person on the other side of the phone was so kind and quick to answer all my questions. I already knew before we arrived it would be a good experience. We sat outside on the patio area in the most sunny spot. High-top chairs were not bad, I was worried about my dad sitting up on them, but no worries. The price you pay when you bring your dog everywhere, haha The server was phenomenal. So friendly and attentive. She did not hover over us but was on top of things. We were the only table outside, so I appreciate her running out to us in the colder weather.
