I recently bought carpet from the San Rafael store. The upfront service was fine. They helped me find suitable carpet and linoleum for our rental unit, came by to take measurements, and scheduled installation. The day before installation, I had received no information about when the installers would arrive, so I called the store. The folks at the store let me know my salesperson was out and that they couldn't help me. After some insistence on my part, they finally managed to find my order, but couldn't confirm when the installation was to take place. I finally got a call back from my salesperson who confirmed arrival time for the installers. When I later spoke with the installation scheduler, he confided that he had only learned of the job that day. Apparently the salesperson had failed to schedule our job and needed my reminder to get things rolling. The next day, the installers arrived with a piece of linoleum a full foot shorter than needed for the job. Fortunately, the linoleum was a stock item at the store and a new sheet was delivered. This would have caused a serious delay if I had special ordered something that was not in stock at the store. The installers did a great job, and the place looks good, but the salesperson who messed up our measurements and nearly failed to schedule our installation didn't inspire confidence. I'll go elsewhere next time I need flooring. read more

I just emailed my sales rep. as well as the manufacturer asking that the owner get involved in helping to resolve our issue. We had a wool carpet installed Jan. 2016. It seemed like a very nice quality. One room with labor $2,300. Ouch. We noticed in September that one area was fuzzy and looking really strange. We called our sales person who contacted the manufacturer to inspect the carpet. After a few weeks his report came back saying that it seemed that my husband's "foot massage ball" was causing the problem. We have had wool carpet in the house for 30 years. There has never been an issue with it. The carpet didn't come with a list of do's and dont's. Of course we wouldn't use it if we knew it would hurt the carpet! Now it''s January 2017. I'm noticing other areas of the carpet look worn. Not the same as the massage ball issue, but just worn. As though the carpeting much older than it is. Obviously this is not a good quality carpet that we purchased. Either the manufacturer or the Floor store should take some responsibility for this? Update on the review - The Floor Store came through and is replacing the carpet at no cost to us. After the review, Cambria, the General Manager, called me. She said they would take care of it whether or not the manufacturer stood behind it. We are getting it installed next week. The whole situation was treated very professionally by Cambria. It's great to know there are still businesses out there who care about their customers. Thank you to the Floor Store. read more

I have worked with many contractors before and all have failed me. I finally decided to give this store a try after seeing it many times driving on I-80. I am now a fan. I worked with Brian to pick out some tiles for my two bathroom floors. They have a wide selection of quality tiles so I saw what I wanted immediately, after months of shopping around. With the great customer service for their in-store service, I decided to also have them do the install. Their price was very competitive and they kept me informed from the beginning to the very end. The installers came and got the job done quickly. The installers were Oscar and another gentlemen. Both were wonderful. They kept the space clean which was very important as I have two little ones. This place was great. I was looking to get an area rug made for my new apartment in San Francisco and I ran accoss The Floor Store in Richmond. I was greeted by a very friendly and knowledgeable salesperson named Dan and he directed me through the store and showed me where to find different sizes of remnats and also let me know that I could have a piece cut from one of the many rolls they had in stock . He was not pushy about the sale and let me look but let me know he was there if I had questions. I was looking for something very specific and he offered to check this other store (customer service :) He directed me to Bret in their San Rafael store and I found exactly what I wanted. Bret helped me decide on the size that would work in my rooms and the best pad and the best binding. I was able to get a beautiful rug for my living room and the price was so good I was able to also do my bedroom. I wanted a unique wool that would stand out in my Edwardian Style San Francisco Apt and I found it. This place exceeded my expectations, I can not say enough. I highly recommend it. When we were shopping for hardwood floors, we stopped at this particular store since we have heard of the chain. While the staff was quick to approach me - it was apparent that if they didn't have what we wanted in stock, they had no interest in continuing the conversation. It got to the point where the more questions I asked, the more annoyed the employee became...and when I started asking questions about installation tips, he literally just walked a way. Needless to say, we left the store in quick order. I had a great end to end experience with the Floor Store. We were working on a tight timeline to get new flooring into my home before my mom was scheduled to move in with my family at the end of the month. Prior to finding the Floor Store, our previous contractor cancelled on us at the last minute because he got a "7000 sq ft" job that he deemed to be more important. In the end I'm glad that happened though. In a semi panic, I went into the store, Kevin was super polite and helped my wife and I find a few LVT samples that were exactly what we were looking for. Then he helped us narrow down the choices based on which stock would arrive quickest. Then he personally came out to our home, after hours, to take measurements so that he could make sure it was done perfectly. Sure enough, everything came right on time, we were able to line up the install just in the nick of time, and then the installers did an amazing job too. They were able to cover up and find solutions for a few weird angles and nooks and crannies in our older home, and all in all everything just came out beautiful. I needed floors in a home I just bought as soon as possible because my closing was delayed. I contracted with a "well know store" because I thought it would be fast and easy. After my floors were measured by the "well know store", I was told it would take 3 weeks to get the floors to the store, then I would have to schedule to have the floors dropped off. The floors would need to sit in the house for 2 days and then schedule to have them put installed, with a cost of almost $5,000. As I was driving home from work on March 3rd, my aunt told me about The Floor Store, so I drove straight over to the store in Richmond. I spoke with Brian at the store and asked him about when I could get the floors installed. I needed them done ASAP so I could move from an apartment to my new home. I didn't want to have furniture in the 2 bedroom, 2 bath house while the floors were being installed in both bedrooms, 4 closets, the hallway, the living room and the dining room. Brian looked at the schedule and said the latest to get the floor installed would be the week of the 17th. Perfect! I looked at floors and picked out a few samples. Brian gave me a rough estimate from what I was looking at, which was about $1500 less than the "well know store". He said someone will call to measure the floors that night or tomorrow. She called the next day and we scheduled the measurement for the 6th. After all was measured, Brian called I told him which floors I wanted and he gave me the cost of the floors. Just over $3,000 and they could install the floors on the 13th and 14th. WOW, now that was perfect! Israel and his partner showed up on March 13th during the time frame they said and worked fast and efficient. They were hard workers and did a wonderful job. I cannot say enough about this 2 man crew. They were just amazing! The whole experience was wonderful and I got my floors picked and installed within 10 days of my 1st and only visit to The Floor Store while savings almost $2,000. I would recommend The Floor Store to for floors any day! I am just sad they are not in Alabama where my daughter needs floors. read more

For carpet it is a good place to check out. However, it's not good for hardwood floor. My wife and I have checked many floor stores for our first home. She liked Walnut and Teak (brown color wood), but I liked Cherry and Mahogany (red color). We saw this store right next to I-80 and we stopped by to check their items. They had variety of hardwood and carpet. Salesman strongly recommended Walnut and showed us hardness rating of different woods for floor. It showed that Walnut (in the rating he showed it didn't say what type of Walnut, it just said Walnut) was the hardest wood we could get. And they had a good deal on Walnut. Since they had Walnut with brown color, we decided to purchase it. Installation was done by a company the salesman at the store recommended. It was done poorly. There are big gaps and some irregular pop up. I have been living in this house for less than 2 full months, but the floor took a lot of damage already. When I assembled my and wife's desks, I accidentally dropped a screw driver from the desks (plastic grab contacted the floor not the pointy metal side). It's a small one from Radio Shack, so I didn't think it would leave a big dent but it did. The floor got scratched whenever I slid something on it. After using our new dinning table and chairs for one dinner, the floor got numerous scratch from chairs which had hardwood floor protections. I had to buy and attach "Magic Slider" on every piece of furniture to prevent further scratch. I drop anything(cell phone, iPod, etc), it leaves dent. I went online and did some research on hardness of hardwood floors. Walnut is ranked top but only if it is Brazilian. 'Black Walnut' is way on the bottom of the ranking. Although price seemed to be good when I purchased, I am not sure how soon I have to polish the floor and how much it will cost. read more

Cambria Hance is the installation manager for all the Floor Stores. We had carpets installed in our San Rafael home awhile back and the seams were improperly located at the entrance to the bedroom and some seams opened up. We did not make much progress with anyone until we hooked up with Cambria. She immediately set up and appointment and toured the house. She agreed that the seams were misplaced and sent a carpet crew to the house with brand new carpets. They removed the bad areas of carpets and installed new carpets and fixed the split carpet seams.
