I had a 1:30 PM meeting near the Flyin' Pig on Thursday, April 17th. Last summer I attended an event that was catered by The Flyin' Pig's. I remembered that I thought the food was pretty good, so I decided to go there for a quick lunch before my meeting.
I entered the restaurant about 12:35 Thursday afternoon on the 17th and was seated right away by a rather impersonal young man at the front. I waited 5 minutes before the waitress found her way to my table. She finally showed up asking what I wanted to drink. By this time, I had perused the menu and knew what I wanted. I went ahead an ordered my meal. I ordered the pulled barbecue sandwich lunch special with coleslaw and an order of fries. I felt that the preparation of a simple meal like that would take the least amount of time. It took longer than I expected. A young man brought out the order. He said, "I will get her to bring you some sauces." I asked him to tell her I also needed ketchup. He said he would. I did not see the waitress for a while, so I decided to taste the food without any sauces. The barbecue, though not the style of barbecue I prefer, was quite good. The fries were excellent. The coleslaw was very good too. I really liked the pineapple in the slaw. About the time I was half finished with the sandwich, she brought over the carrier with multiple sauce selections. I reminded her about the ketchup. I continued to eat my lunch. I saw her at other tables, taking orders and/or delivering meals to the other tables. She finally walked over and asked how everything was and said . I reminded her about the ketchup. This time, she brought the ketchup right out. By then I had one last bite of my sandwich left and about half my fries. I realized that if I was going to get out of there on time, I needed to get her to bring my check right away. I asked her for my bill. I pulled out my credit card and left it on the table and waited, and waited, and waited. Again, while I waited, I decided to pay with cash, figuring that if I gave her a credit card for payment, I might never leave the restaurant. Finally, she brought the bill. The best I can remember, the total was $8.37, or something very close. I left $9 on the table when I left.
The food was very good. The young lady that waited on me was very pleasant. She just seemed inept. Perhaps this was her first wait-staff job. Perhaps she was not trained properly. I don't know. She did not seem to be able to handle multiple tasks at one time. read more
