Food: 4/5 I ordered the crab cake Benedict with dreamy grits and a biscuit, French toast with raspberry preserves (omg it is the best!), and huevos rancheros with moon-dusted potatoes and biscuit. Crab cake Benedict was delicious and everything I expected it to be and the huevos rancheros was good, but it was a bit too salty for my taste, but my partner enjoyed it! I have been coming to the Flying Biscuit since it first opened. I have been satisfied with most orders, however, a few times I received cold food or the quality was subpar. Recently I showed up before the other person in my party and was refused seating until the other party showed. I can see this policy valid if parties are larger, however far a party of two this is ridiculous. For now on I will take my business elsewhere. read more

A must-try place, at least once!! I make any excuse to stop at Flying Biscuit when I visit Gainesville, even despite the wait time, which is never under an hour. But I still think the food is worth the wait. It's a homey early eatery, with every plate served with their "moon dusted" biscuits. Smother on their homemade apple jam, and you'll find yourself packing the extra containers in your purse to take home. I recommend their eggs benedict or the huevos rancheros. I haven't had anything other than their breakfast dishes, but I haven't been disappointed yet. The biggest downside is the long wait. It's basically unavoidable unless you're there at open or close. LOVE this place! This is our second time here because it's 4 hours from where we live- so we come here whenever we visit a family member. We LOVE their biscuits and it comes with every meal you order. You have the option to choose two- grits, potatoes, or biscuits. The grits are TO DIE FOR! I was really excited to try their breakfast. Everything looked really good. Strong start with the drinks - phenomenal hot coco, yummy peach and mango juice, a sake bloody mary topped with pickled okra, and iced coffee. The food left a lot to be desired. The Fried Green Tomatoes were a total joke. Actually the worst appetizer I may have ever had. Dry and mealy. A strange sporadic batter, chunks of I think cornmeal stuck to the tomato in random places. The worst assault was the chopped candied nuts on top of the tomatoes. Overly sweet and did not fit the dish. Looked like pre-chopped garlic. Strange. A sweetened cream cheese or goat cheese topping dropped in unappealing chunks also topped the dish. Chicken Chorizo bowl was also dry. It also looked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for three days. Neon orange dried shredded melted cheese adhered to a tostios mild salsa like sauce. The biscuit weighted about a half pound and was dusted in sugar. Tasted a bit of baking soda but was fluffy and tasty with the apple butter. Even the sunny side up eggs were a bit mangled - covered in a bright yellow oil. Came with regular bacon. Price was fair, wait was really long even with call ahead. Fine in a pinch, but I recommend staying with some basic items like eggs and bacon and keeping away from anything at all exotic. read more

SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES - the Flying Biscuit is open amid the COVID-19 scare. This is a local go to place in my home town serving tasty breakfast and lunch. In efforts to not eat the same meal 5 times a week we ordered in lunch and wanted to help out the local business' of Gainesville. The fried green tomato salad is by far one of the best lunch items, along with the black bean quesadillas which are unfortunately not on the menu anymore. The salad has fried green tomatoes (all but one is chopped up in the picture), bacon, goat cheese, and a cashew relish that sounds odd but makes the dish!!! The atmosphere is bright and cheery, and the biscuits are seriously the best in town (we even order them to have with breakfast for dinner at home don't tell). The Flying Biscuit is generally a cool place to go for some really good breakfast / brunch food and good service. The good: I have never gotten a bad or even a not great meal here. The service is almost always really good with the wait staff being interesting and eclectic. The Menu is fairly diverse with good carnivore and herbivore options. On this visit I tried a vegetarian meal and I was not disappointed. Honestly, I was waffling between menu options and our waiter suggested the The Black Bean Quesadillas... they were terrific! No complaints in any way. On a side note the flying biscuit also makes a good mimosa. The Bad: The only bad thing I have to say about the Flying Biscuit is the noise in the restaurant. It is very loud and busy all most all the time. This makes it a little difficult to carry on a conversation. The great food kinda makes up for this, but if you're sitting inside prepare for it to be loud. When the weather is nice, outdoor seating is the way to go! The Ugly: I can't think of anything ugly to say. Of the many times I've been here I have no ugly experiences. I really can't say enough good things about the Flying Biscuit. Flying Biscuit is a must try. I love a lot of their food and have been quite a few times since I moved to Gainesville. I'm giving two stars in hopes that someone that works there sees it. The last two times I've gotten food from there it unbelievably salty. I got the Hangover Hash and the Cheesy Patty melt and I swear my arteries are begging me to never eat these items from there again. We called at 10:10am and was told there was a 30 min wait. We put our names in. Checked in about 25 minutes later and was handed a pager. About 30 minutes more of waiting later, realizing everyone else around us had been seated, I went up to the hostess stand to ask for an update. They had not written down our pager number right so we had been crossed off the list. Finally we had a table at about 11:30 and ordered promptly. We then waited forever for our food. Basically I wouldn't suggest going here unless you have the whole day to waste. We wanted to get breakfast and it was 12:10pm by the time we were served food. First things first, the grits are amazing. They are the best I've ever had. Period. This is a very popular brunch destination, so wait times are crazy. I have stopped trying to come anytime before noon. The menu is Southern food. Most of the items are good. I've been to the original location in Atlanta, and the biscuits are much, much better there. Whenever I come to Gainesville I make it a point to dine at the Flying Biscuit, because of the delicious food and amazing customer service. I always raved about the great the food and service is at your establishment. Yesterday was very different. I always order the same thing. Large order of shrimp and grits with the red sauce on it and French toast. My order of shrimp and grits were not very hot as in temperature. The red sauce had a greasy haze, the shrimp tails had shells on them. Even the French toast was tepid not hot at all. Maybe this was due to my arrival time was around 1:30pm. I really don't see the appeal of this place. I've given it a couple tries and my opinion is still the same. The food is mediocre at best. The biscuits are just okay. Their "famous" grits are just okay. I tried the wake up burger this time for something different and the meat (while cooked properly) was totally under seasoned and the avocado wasn't ripe. The moon-dusted potatoes were dried out and really lacked any flavor whatsoever. Anyone who thinks this is quintessential Southern cooking really needs to get out more. It's just so "meh" that I don't understand why anyone would wait in line to eat here. In my experience, breakfast at Peach Valley Cafe is much better. The decor is colorful and bright. I guess a good way to wake you up! The service was good and food came fairly quickly. Our waitress was nice but when she picked up the check and asked if I needed anything else, I asked for a to-go cup for the rest of my tea.
