Honestly, I didn't have much hope for this hotdog picnic on the pier since I rarely eat a dog that I like, so I was happily surprised when this one hit the spot. They have many different dogs so whatever kind of dog you like, he probably has it. If I remember right there are 3 picnic tables behind the stand that worked perfectly for us, though I can imagine if it had been a weekend during summer we may have had a really hard time finding a place to sit. With kids, this is a great place to grab a quick and tasty and CHEAP, lunch. Next time I'm down there with picky kids we'll be eating there again. read more

This little hot dog huh had a really long line the day I was there. I thought if the line was so long they must have really good dogs. After not moving in line after 10 minutes I realized the line was long because it is taking forever to serve customers. After a 30 plus minute wait I was finally up to the counter. There was only one person working in the hut. A very nice guy, made good conversation with every customer. This probably also attributes to the long line. Placed my order and talked to the guy about what brought me to Seattle. His day must be filled with giving advice to tourists on places to go and things to do. I finally got my order. I got an Old Fashon and Lemonade. Self-serve condiments were around the corner. I am that guy that gets only ketchup on my hotdog. By this time I was very hungry and ready to try this dog that had me waiting in line for an eternity. I took one bite of the dog and wanted to spit it out. It was not good. There is something about hot dogs in Seattle that just isn't right. They seem to have a weird seafood taste or something. I also got a hot dog at the Mariners game the night before and had the same experience. I was hoping this dog would change my opinion of Seattle hot dogs but it just confirmed my beliefs. I threw the dog in the trash can after just one bite. The bun used for this dog was delicious though. It alone almost made me want to take a second bite. I didn't like it that much though. The bun was toasted perfectly with a crunchy outside and soft pillow of goodness inside. So the two good things that came out of this experience were the guy working there and the bun. The ultimate question when rating food or a restaurant is....would you eat there again? The answer is no! I in fact will never eat a hog dog in Seattle ever again! read more

We passed by this place a couple times without giving it second thought. One afternoon after getting off the ferry and walking down to the piers, we needed a snack to hold us over until dinner so we grabbed an Old Fashioned dog and a Strawberry Lemonade. The dog was very tasty and had a nice grill on it, unlike most side of the road hotdog stands. The lemonade was superb! I had a meeting at an office on Western Avenue and didn't leave myself much time for lunch. Along this part of Elliott Bay, there is surprisingly few quick options. I wandered upon The Frankfurter and was impressed. I ordered the hot Italian sausage. It was more of a southern hot link, but it was tasty nonetheless. The buns were toasted, so the hot dogs and sausages taste much better. The combination meal includes chips and a drink for less than $9. It is a good deal in a part of town that is generally characterized by overpriced junk directed toward tourists. If it were closer to my office at 6th and University, then I would come back more frequently. If you are in the area, it is a good spot for lunch. read more

I was waiting on line to get a lemonade and another patron started arguing with me and my boyfriend about how we cut him in line and how disgusting we were. He had his two daughters with him and was cussing very loudly in front of other kids. The woman working at Frankfurter didn't say anything. She just stared for a moment, then started doing something in the back until we were done arguing. The man blocked us from going up to the counter by extending his hands and that's when I knew I had no desire to deal with that person any longer. This isn't how you run a business. You clearly know who was in front of who. Stand up for your customers and don't hide in the back because there's an altercation. There's a sign on the right of the cashier that said "Go on our website and try our coupons." I go on their website on my phone and show her a coupon and she laughed and said all the coupons are from 2013 and invalid. Why is the sign up then? I have no desire to come back here. read more

Perfectly good and filling hot dogs that go for just under $5. Great for someone that's a meat-eater, in a rush, and happens to be on the waterfront. I don't recommend this place for vegetarians, though. They have no veggie dogs so the only options for those who don't eat meat are pasta salad, potato salad, and cookies. (There may be a couple more things, but nothing filling.) The salads are about $3 and are VERY small. My friend was bummed b/c she was still hungry after she finished her pasta salad (while we meat-eaters were feeling pretty good after finishing our dogs). read more

The Frankfurter that I went to is on the Waterfront on Alaskan Way. It is in a little hut type thing near Ivars. They have a full menu of all types of dogs, including your standard dog, spicy dog, italian sausage dog, cheddar filled dog, to name the ones I can remember. They have a kids menu with a skinless dog as to not freak your kids out. They offer fresh squeezed lemonade, chips and soft drinks. I had a sausage dog and junior had the kids meal. He scarfed his which was no small feat, as the dog was pretty big. My sausage dog was shortish, had nice flavor and had a rather tough skin. A nice touch was that on their condiment bar they offered many types of mustard and dill relish in addition to sweet relish and onions. Only drawback to me is that there is really no place to sit. We ended up sitting our grub on a cement block and stood to eat. If you're down by the waterfront and don't want Ivars, grab a dog from the Frankfurter. Party on. read more

"Italian Hot" was a decent dog. Adequately spicy, though I wouldn't really call it "hot". I could be biased though, as I am one to enjoy a good XXX hot sauce (Dave's, Blair's etc). The bun was a tad stale as well, although I'm not sure if the dry/hardness was intentional. Either way, I prefer my hot-dog buns steamed or at least soft. Overall, it wasn't the best dog I've had in Seattle, and I'd expect more from a hot-dog place that doesn't also have the disadvantage of having to deal with being mobile. Ah well. Try it once. During the "Ride The Ducks" tour, our guide said this was Seattle's Best hot dogs. Honestly, I think it fell short. The cook was super nice and very knowledgeable on the dogs ingredients. There are a lot of different type of dogs to choose from and the service is quick. The taste of the dogs felt average. I ordered the Italian Dog, which is suppose to be the spiciest, and I have had hotter hot dogs. Seattle style is a hot dog topped with cream cheese, sautéed onions and peppers, and since I am not a fan of onions and green/red peppers, I opted to just adding cream cheese. It's a different flavor to accept when biting into your dog, but it's not bad at all. I have always loved the Frankfurter hotdogs (they used to have a store in the Seattle Center House, which I frequently visited being that I worked for the Fun Forest) and because they only have the waterfront location now, getting one of these dogs is a treat. It's worth the trek to get a dog (the Old Fashioned or the Cheesedog) and a cup of the delicious lemonade. Why, why, why won't the owners reopen a few locations?
