    Steak Bites

The bar is in the Renaissance Hotel, The Depot. Got the steak bites and they were 10/10! Everybody should come here and get these steak bites lol. Very rich and flavorful. Had it with the Plum Spritz. The spritz was alright, but strong, which I prefer. The bar island hotel is a nice hotel overall.

Awesome patio and bar. Friendly service. Surprisingly tasty bites. Definitely recommend stopping by Milwaukee Road for a cocktail, happy hour, or dinner on the go whether you're a local or business traveler in the area.

Great cocktails! Very friendly service and a nice vibe. My friend said her Old Fashioned was perfect. They were very generous with the fancy cherries. I had the perfect White Russian. We had the flatbread and it was pretty average. The crust was too crunchy. Like a dried out cracker. The hummus platter was outstanding! Lots of veggies, olives, breads, crackers, and hummus. I forgot to take pictures of the food...

Service was great and friendly. Drinks are strong. It was a quieter than usual Friday night. There were plenty of seating in the bar area or you can sit by the restaurant area.

Milwaukee Road is located inside the Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel at The Depot. First of all, we had a difficult time finding the entrance as we were tourists and not being familiar with The Depot, we walked all around it, finally finding an entrance to the restaurant on the patio side. I usually avoid hotel restaurants and having read so-so reviews for this one, we were a bit hesitant, but not much is open on Mondays in Minneapolis, so it was slim pickin's. It was also conveniently less than a 10 min walk from our downtown hotel. (Many Minneapolis restaurants and attractions seem to be closed Mondays -- not great if you're a tourist who happens to be there on a Monday!) We wanted to sit outside, but it was full, so we sat inside where it was quiet, dimly lit and a bit lacking in atmosphere. It took a while to be acknowledged and for our order to be taken. It took at least half an hour for our food to arrive and I realized right away that the chicken I'd ordered to top my salad was missing. This was likely because the waitress didn't write the order down and didn't repeat the order back to us. I then had to wait for the chicken to arrive on a side plate while my husband began his meal. Due to this mistake, the restaurant was kind enough to compensate us, but it didn't add to our evening enjoyment. Overall, a very average experience. The food was not that flavorful and the desserts were uninspiring, so we skipped having one. Service could be improved, but I got the impression they were probably short-staffed. Helpful?

Stopped by for dinner before a show at the Guthrie, we had a 6pm reservation before a 7:30 show which my friends I was with said they had done here before and the timing always worked out. Unfortunately, this was not the case for us. At around 7, our server cleared half our plates and we were ready to ask for the check when she returned to clear the rest of the table. Unfortunately, 15 minutes passed without seeing her again (we were one of 3 tables there and her only table I believe). We asked the other server for the check, stating that we had to head out soon to make it to the show in time. He went to find her but it took another 20 minutes to find her and work on sorting out the bill (it took 3 tries to get the machine working and get all items on the check correctly). We ended up leaving the restaurant just after 7:30, ran the 5 minutes to the Guthrie, and had to miss the first 10 minutes of the show. Food seemed to be variable, my friends who got the BLT and burgers enjoyed their meals, but my other friend notes that the fried chicken sandwich was very soggy and my chicken Caesar was not great. The Parmesan crisp was so soggy that it bent in half instead of snapping, the grilled bread was rock hard, and it honestly tasted just like romaine lettuce with bottled dressing (not a bad thing but for $15 I would have expected more). I paid $7 extra to add chicken and it ended up being a grilled chicken thigh, which isn't bad necessarily I was just expecting grilled chicken breast so that's something to be aware of. On a positive note, my strawberry spritzer mocktail was great! I would not return here for food, but if I was in the area or had a friend staying in the hotel I would return just for drinks (and make sure I had extra time scheduled for slow service).

    Steak Sandwich

First time eating at Milwaukee Road, food was pretty good. I had the Steak sandwich, very tender, the fries were good as well. Portion size wasn't super big, so if you're really hungry order your own meal. One disappointment, we could not order a cocktail for lunch because the bartender arrives later in the afternoon.

    Menu

Saint Paul Patty Melt - was delicious - quite decadent. Cute space. TV for Olympics. Music was a little annoying.

The restaurant is all encompassing. There is an eating and bar area with a variety of seating options; Couches, Plush chairs, Stools, etc... I've experienced the breakfast buffet, cocktails and snacks, and dinner and have yet to be disappointed. The staff is attentive and accommodating. Food has been excellent. Drinks and food are fairly priced for a fashionably designed restaurant in a chic hotel located downtown Minneapolis. Breakfast buffet comes with all juices, coffee, and tea along with a lovely chef who makes a fantastic omelette and eggs over-easy. Of course you have all the other buffet options as well, such as: bacon, sausage, pancakes, scrambled eggs, hash browns, fruit, yogurt, and oatmeal. For cocktails and snacks I advise sitting in the area by the bar and ordering off the 3 for 15$ menu. My favorites are the 3 bite sized grilled cheese sliders with an espresso cup of tomato soup, 4 wings and the Milwaukee Road Bread. They make a fantastic Lemon Drop but I also enjoyed the Pink Flirtini and a Citrus Gimlet (Gimlet is not on the menu. I saw a customer tell the bar tender how to make this variation of the lime gimlet. It sounded delicious, so I jumped on the gimlet bandwagon.) For dinner I recommend the chopped salad. * I added shrimp. Or any of the salmon and vegetable dishes. Absolutely delicious. I also had their tomato bisque soup a few evenings in a row. I couldn't help it. Yum.

She was so friendly, personable, and attentive from start to finish. She consistently checked in on us and really made us feel welcome. We started with the cheese curds and the guacamole, and both were really good. I also ordered the frosé, which was refreshing, although the lemon flavor with the lemon slice was a little overpowering for my taste. For my entrée, I had a 60/40 burger that was cooked perfectly with the bacon and was full of flavor. Overall, we had a really enjoyable experience thanks to the great food and even better service. I'd definitely come back, especially if Hailey is our server again!

As always the burger was so juicy and the shoestring potatoes gave it great texture and the dijon sauce gave a nice acidic touch to balance the richness of the wagyu beef. Paired it with their crispy tower onion rings and truffle aioli. We went on a Tuesday night which was half off a bottle so that was a win. Our server highly recommended the creme brulee and as a creme brulee snob it was one of the best I've had. Being downtown the restaurant was packed but the service stayed consistent. Our food came out hot and the server did a great job of checking in on us. We also stayed past the time they closed talking and laughing and we never felt rushed to hurry up and leave.

Our only complaint is that the tables are fairly close together and a 2 person table is so small! It kept us from ordering more food, because there would be no place for it to go! Our server was nice. She originally forgot our drinks but admitted it and got them right away. We appreciated the honesty. Our water glasses were always full, we were given wet naps after our delicious wings and plates were taken promptly! Food: We each started with a drink. I got the banana bread old fashioned which may just be my favorite cocktail! My boyfriend got a beer and said it was "ok." We started with the truffle fries and smoked wings in the flavor rum chili. Holy moly! Both of those were spectacular!!! The ranch was just ok, I would probably get the blue cheese next time. Truly though, you don't need to dip these wings, the flavors are amazing on their own!! For our main course, we got the 14oz New York strip steak cooked to a perfect medium and the scallops! Both were out of this world! Very well done! I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone! It is truly a gem in the cities!
