I've been wanting to try this place for a while, but for some reason I didn't visit until today. I've been missing out! I had a Gyro on pita and it was phenomenal! Aside from the gyro meat, I got lettuce, onions, crumbled feta, and Greek olives (pitted) on a big pita. It's awesome! There's also a chicken gyro, kababs, falafel, hummus, and several other tasty looking options. I believe all of the meat is halal, which I appreciate (not a dietary/religious concern for me personally but because I like to support halal and kosher options around town when possible to ensure those options continue to be available for others). It's going to take several more visits to try everything and I'm up for the challenge. I think I have a new go-to favorite take out location! read more

Tried this place twice. It isn't the worst Mediterranean food, as others stated, but it could use some improvement. The Falafel, the Toum (whipped garlic sauce) and the Zhoug (cilantro jalapeno sauce) are pretty good. But the bread used for the wraps is VERY dry. It ruined an otherwise decent sandwich. I had the Beef/Lamb which is a bit dry and could use some spices and salt. On my 2nd visit, I tried the Shish Kebab. It was just okay but also needed a bit more flavor. The chicken was alright. The eggplant salad and whatever is sitting right next to it were bland and soggy. Nothing there made me say Wow. I may go back for the fresh falafels and zhough, but that's about it. It's in a gas station convenience store, we call this place Cenex because that's the name of the gas station from the street. But wait, it's the best middle eastern food in Lawrence, and the cheapest! They make their felafel balls to order! This place is like a gourmet middle eastern Subway where you can have it your way with all the condiments laid out and you tell them what you want on your order. Try a salad plate with hummus, kale or tabouli, and the sliced beef with great tahini, tatziki, sauce, etc. they even have feta, pickles, peppers, and kalamata olives, pretty good, and like $5 salad plates! This is the closest place yet to the flavors we got in Detroit area. It's delicious. They have our favorite garlic sauce. Also they have the perfect Rotisserie chicken & beef. This place is incredibly tasty! It's in a gas station but there's barstools and a big table where you can sit. The food is fresh and delicious, especially the falafel and the beef/lamb combo! You can get it in a bowl with rice and lots of toppings or in a wrap. This is some of the best Mediterranean food in town. Writing this review as I eat a rice bowl with chicken, tomatoes, cucumber, feta, and sumac onions. It's SO GOOD! Chebaro is inside of a gas station and set up like a middle eastern chipotle. The rice is extremely flavorful as well as the chicken. They have an array of toppings and sauces that I can't wait to try when I come back again. My meal was only $7 and is definitely going to be enough for 2 meals. It says you can only get 3 toppings but I got 4 and didn't notice any additional costs to my bowl. Instead of rice you can get a salad, hummus bowl, or stuffed pita. Highly recommend if you need a quick bite to eat on lunch break or want quality middle eastern food! read more

Just ate here and was excellent! If you get kebabs you must wait a bit as they are made fresh. The chicken shawarma off the spit will be quick unless they run out of it! The jalapeño and cilantro sauce is amazing. The side of hummus is enough for 3! Will definitely come back. read more

Great food in a surprising spot. ive been three times and got the same beef in a rice bowl entree. there are a lot of options to customize your dish including some really good sauces. the food is all really good. the price is decent too. the only criticism was that one time they were out of lentil soup. i got fries instead and they were just ok. if they have the soup though, get it -- its great. read more
