I'd want to say that this is hands down the best burger I've ever had. Comparing it to other fast food restaurants, this hits another side of comfort food. I'm not one to compare all the time but, I do think this is such a better alternative to in n out if you want something relatively cheap. Moving on, the location of this place is ideal for it being in Hillcrest. There's a whole bunch of neighborhood parking and it's well worth looking for a spot. The atmosphere of the whole place feels super comforting as there are a whole bunch of guys cooking it up and warming up pizzas. It's a great spot for people who have been out drinking and need something to sober up to haha! But regardless I think they're food and customer gets them the five stars. The cheeseburger consists of two flat patties and tons of cheese and sauce. It just takes one to get me full, it's a shame they don't have fries but don't let that prevent you from coming to this old school looking diner. read more

The Friendly had some great options! Before I get to the food one thing to note is that there's not a lot of seating so you may have to get it to go if it's crowded. They have a special's menu that's always changing and the day we went there was an Animal Style pizza. Basically an animal style burger from In-N-Out but pizza version and let's just say it was amazing! We also got their cheese bread and burger which were both great. Their house ranch is one of the best I've tried in San Diego so far. The total for 3 slices of the Animal Style pizza, cheese bread and 1 burger was $30 so totally reasonable. read more

This is a busy burger and pizza joint that is good for takeout. Not much seating space. Open late. They sell pizza by the slice for $3.50, or you can get a whole pizza for around $20. The pizza was okay, it was very salty. It's thin crust, but definitely not New York style. Next time I will try the burger, but I was not impressed by the pizza. read more

Entering the pizza store front, I was blessed with amazing mouth watering smell of freshly baked pizza with Lil Wayne Carter III album playing in the background. A friendly gentleman greeted me with a smile and took my order right away. I have about 30 minutes to order a slice and to be on my way. Spinach and ricotta caught my eye and he questioned whether I only wanted only one. He made me second guess myself and almost convinced me to get that extra slice but in this rare occasion of self control I went with 1 and he quickly threw the slice into the oven. $5.50 (for the slice and Acqua Panna bottle water) & a few minutes later, my pizza presented itself on a simple paper plate and I feel it's perfectly warmed up temperature hit my fingertips. As I grabbed the crust to devour this amazing concoction of cheese, spinach & flour to enter my mouth, I already knew I had to write a review. All I can say is this is a must try if your are in the area! Don't skip out on this amazing & affordable slice of pizza. I regret not my uncertainty but I know fate will bring us back together! This place is by far the best find we've come across in all of San Diego's burger places. Their featured, "Flat Top" burger is amazing!! It's so good that we ordered 2 for my hubby and I and when they were gone, we HAD to order some to go, so we could enjoy them once we got home. They were still amazingly tasty for dinner. It's important to know that the burger comes, as is, no substitutions!! AND they have awesome pizza too, our kids were thrilled with it. It's also only one size but you can create your own. Bottom of the pizza was burned, like mostly black burned. It just tasted like salt and burn. The hamburger was pretty good but the bottom bun was soaked in grease. They werent busy at all. Great burgers, good pizza. The pizza slices were quite good and quite crisp. I especially liked the flavor of the pizza dough, probably the best I've tasted. I could be biased because I was hungry at the time but they have a crust I really want to keep eating (as opposed to others' crusts who do not compel me to finish them). Burger is also great. It's probably one of the greasiest burgers I've ever eaten and that's not a dig at them. They use very beefy beef--I'm not sure how they achieved that... extra tallow maybe? Probably one of the beefiest flavored burgers I've ever tasted. I also liked the nice American cheese and sprinkle of raw onions and schmear of mayo. It makes for a very rich-tasting burger. It's so rich, I probably could have two, at most unlike other "lighter" burgers of similar size I've had (e.g. Umami burger). The best part about it is they take the time to really *really* build up a crust on that burger. I've had Smashburger and a bunch of other places that try to do similarly, but this is quite literally the crispiest burger I've ever had. If you're like me and have cooked ground beef for so long it gets to that sort of crispy kibble-like stage, that's basically what they've done here except still keeping the middle of the patty soft. My only hope is that they keep serving it greasy! I'm still T-ed off because Habit burgers used to be almost as greasy but maybe someone complained (?) and now they are not greasy at all.
