Went for lunch with our grandkids. One had the monster pancakes. Liked them but stopped eating half way through due to the size. The other got the mini French toast. Small piece of bread. My adult guest and I shared what in menu was called chicken salad on a croissant. What came was a very small amount of the chicken salad on a bun, and the salad was nothing special. I had a bad experience there I had an egg platter with home fried toast and bacon. I didn't like the food I ask to change to a egg sandwich and it was the same horrible Eggs. I'm not sure if that was an egg substitute but it did not taste good. Clean and friendly staff nice decor but they need to do better with the eggs. read more

Absolutely DISGUSTING experience. My wife went here last week with her friend to celebrate her birthday and ended up walking out after seeing a giant rat run across the floor. What made it worse was that no one -- staff or guests -- seemed even remotely surprised or concerned. The manager came over and gave her some lame excuse about how they're "trying to remedy the situation," which only confirmed this isn't a one-time issue. She was completely mortified and didn't want to make a scene out of it, and just left. I felt the need to let it be known. People deserve to know what kind of environment this place is operating in. I used to loooove friendly toast but hadn't been in about a year. the experience was absolutely terrible. the food wasn't good, the menu has drastically gotten smaller and my favorite item (snap, crackle, cluck) is now gone and replaced for a boring classic chicken sandwich. I got the classic chicken sandwich in the hopes that they just changed the name but the butter on the bun tasted rancid and the sandwich was just boring/bad to begin with. I didn't even like my fries. They were stale. The only thing i liked on that plate was my pickle sphere. My friend got the friendly toast benny and got half the amount of breakfast potatoes on the side that they normally would've put in the past. The ketchup on our table was basically empty and tasted weird. I didn't like the maple lemon spritz And it was $10. My friend ordered a side of pickled onions and it was rancid! Our server tried it and said something was off. Then he said he brought it to the kitchen, they tried it, and spat it out. That's disgusting. they thankfully took that item off the bill. I looked up if they sold their company but apparently they hadn't. this experience was terrible and I don't think I'll be going back. The food was substandard, too pricey, too sugary, or too peppery. My avocado toast was $15 for mostly guac, and $18 to add an egg. Prices I'd be willing to pay for quality that I could not find at The Friendly Toast. My partner described it as a mix of Friendly's and IHOP, which feels accurate. I went to the Friendly Toast in Dedham the other day having been to the Back Bay location before. I have only gotten their benedict's before and they were pretty good. When we came in the older woman hostess was not very friendly at all and the first thing you expect entering a restaurant is feeling welcomed, even if it is busy. We waited on the yelp waiting list for not too long after arriving which was nice. The server we had was very nice and friendly (I wish I remembered her name). I got the omelette with the long name that has cheese, ham, bacon, and other stuff in it. It was really good but one thing I don't love about Friendly Toast is how some of the items they seem to be doing too much with the food. There was some maple/chipotle crema on it with pumpkin seeds and I didn't think the flavors were bad just a little weird/too sweet for an omelette. Potatoes and toast were solid. I think Friendly Toast is a little too out there and overpriced to be expanding to so many different places. I would rather go to 50s Diner and just get a simple breakfast. Don't get me wrong with this review.....Met my 18 yr old son for Sunday breakfast. He arrived first. He asked how long was the wait and they said 1 hour. He said, "oh!" They said if you didn't want to wait then you can go to sit at the bar. First come, first serve. So my son sat at the bar and they served him water before I arrived. I then sat next to him and asked to be reseated in the booth seat attached to the bar, after ordering a cold brew coffee. We were given menus and asked for our order, then only to be then asked if my son was 21 and told that you had to be 21 to sit at the bar and we would have to be queued at the end of the table service. The friendly toast is absolutely always consistent. They never miss the mark. I tend to get or start off with a chocolate chip pancake and then I'll end with eggs and some type of protein. I never get the same thing however, every time I get food, it's amazing, fresh AND the order is right. The staff is friendly from the door until the time that you leave. I would say my only disappointment is that I don't drink alcohol and having a list of mocktails that taste amazing, and are not full of sugar would be super super awesome. I went online to place a takeout order but their online system seem to be down. So I called and spoke with their automated attendant, Benedict, that in turn sent me a link to order online. I attempted to use the link to order online, but unfortunately that seemed to be down as well. I called back and told Benedict that I'd like to speak with someone. I waited as they cleaned tables and sat a party of 6 or 7 that had been waiting. while I was waiting, there was a young, yuppie, white couple sitting next to me who I figured was waiting to be seated. A gentleman comes over and hands that couple a bag with a takeout order then proceeds to ask if he can help me. I explain I would like to place an order to go in which he tells me they are not taking any to go orders because they're busy. At the time the restaurant was not half full. There was one person at the bar there was no one waiting to be seated. I told him I just saw you hand a takeout order to the couple that just left and he said I'm sorry we were told not to take any more orders to go. Friendly toast is a solid option for brunch. I enjoy coming here due to ample parking, generally fast service, and a very clean and spacious restaurant. Over a dozen of visits to this location, I can say that most of their wait staff are extremely friendly and efficient, but we've had the occasional waitress who has been disengaged and has no sense of urgency. On to the food: they're a step up from greasy spoon diner, and their menu has a good mix of classic brunch options and more creative choices. The hash quiche and crab cake Benny are two of the "better" options I've had from Friendly Toast, but I can't say anything in particular stands out. Word of caution: don't order their omelettes. I ordered a ham and mushroom omelette and weirdly enough it came deconstructed? It was as if the egg was cooked first and then the toppings were haphazardly thrown on top. Plenty of parking and we went on a weekday and did not have to wait but had steady guests coming in and out. Food came out very fast, which was appreciated.
