OMG! This place was amazing. Everything was delicious. Small space but very nice patio weather permitting. We sat at the bar and met the owner who is also the bar tender who makes a special margarita which has to be requested!!! We are from Seattle and kinda of a food snubs. The Ahi tuna Wonton and quail eggs were amazing. The side salad had a special taste to it. The people next to us had Spanish sardines and racing about it. We were in Salida two nights, picked The Fritz based on the menu. Got the Brussel Sprouts, Mac N Cheese, and Burger. Thee Brussels were charred perfectly, and had good depth of flavor. We agreed a little garlic would have put them over the top, nonetheless a delightful dish. Strong recommend. Mac N Cheese, they utilize non-standard varieties of cheeses and it definitely works. I would have liked more generous panko on top, though the dish definitely satisfied. Burger was somewhat small for $14, though the bourbon onion bacon jam added a nice level of flavor. Sweet potato fries for the side. Service was solid and attentive. Tavern setup and atmosphere, including Irish music playing via the speakers. Would definitely come back. read more

This place is definitely worth stopping by, whether for a quick drink and small dish or for a meal. The "Burger of the week" was SO good, as well as the roasted brussel sprouts. I'm not usually a brussels sprouts person but they were super crispy and just the right saltiness. read more

Got away for a mid week vacation this week and ended up at The Fritz for dinner. Great energy in the place as soon as we walked in. So nice to see humans again! We got lucky and got a seat right away. We sat between a nice family and a group of four dude who got a hall pass from their wives to go fishing for a few days. The atmosphere allows you to chat with your neighbors, the Old Fashioned's helped with that too! We ordered the mushroom cauliflower mash, ceviche and the steak fritz. The manager, who we decided to call Fritz ( the place is named after a dog!) was super helpful and stopped by to chat and recommend things. I digress. So the cauliflower mushroom mash was freakin' amazing and I would have ordered 5 of those and just had that. Such an amazing flavor. Then the ceviche came and that again was out of this world! The steak was good but after these two flavor explosions it got lost a bit. So after a few more drinks we left very very happy! I'm sure the burgers and other things are good here but the small plate idea is great and we'd recommend that. And take "Fritz" advice on drinks, he knows his trade well!! read more

The serving sizes were very small and confusing by the menu as some were not listed under the small plates. I ordered the shrimp and grits and 4 shrimp came out on grits the size of a hockey puck, it was pretty good but I wouldn't have paid $15 for it if i had known. My brother and sisters serving sizes were also very small and overpriced. I don't know if maybe it just wasn't what we were expecting and people who come here are expecting these kinds of servings for that price???!?! but we were ready to chow down and left hungry. Also all of our food got brought out at different times (there were 6 of us with 4 being accidental small plates) with the smaller plates coming out first so we were done way before the larger meals even came out so that was kind of awkward. Absolutely horrible. So NOT eat here. Can of sardines opened up and put some pickled veggies on top and charged $15. Truffle fries were undercooked fries with some cheese sprinkled atop. Another $12. Open a jar of mixed greek olives and microwave them for a minute for $8. Everything tasted horrendous. I would rate it zero stars if possible. In total $60 for disgusting cheap food at a bar. If your going to be a hang out bar don't try and have 'tapas.' Serve fucking burgers and fries. Cant believe it was rated so well. Angry that we wasted time and money here. We tried to come eat there as a party of 8 knowing they wouldn't seat a party larger than 6. The hostess was less than capable of understanding that we were willing to split into 2 groups of 4 & the manager was completely unwilling to accommodate our party of 8. We went on the wait list (despite many many tables being open) and we're told 15-20 minutes. We were also told we weren't allowed to get a drink at the bar due to us crowding the space. We went next door to wait & got a call within 5 minutes. We politely asked them to skip to the next group. We received a call less than 5 minutes later and we're told if we didn't come right then that we wouldn't be served. From a group of ladies ready to eat and drink & spend a nice chunk of change, this was very frustrating and quite distasteful. We ended up at a lovely Mexican restaurant that was more than willing to accommodate and gave us amazing customer service. The Fritz, I am disappointed. read more

My dish came out 10 minutes after they brought out my boyfriend's dish. They brought out our appetizer AFTER we had already finished eating the main course and it was the wrong appetizer. The food was just average and I couldn't even finish my dish because the chicken was undercooked. The dessert was pretty good though. Definitely wouldn't return back for food. read more

The service was impeccable. Food was just average. The menu changes daily. We had the beet salad, (which was good) the fried green tomatoes (dont bother) and the potstickers which were fine. First off the Food is very good...but.... The Definition of Rude is Impolite, discourteous, Crass, curt..... The rudeness of the entire staff from the bartender to the servers was appalling. We had guests in town and they could not believe what we witnessed. I hope the more than generous tip is used for some Dale Carnegie courses. The next logical question might be - why were you blocked? To that there are several answers. We walked to the Fritz one night, maybe a 3/4 mile walk. It was snowing; the flakes were fluffy and gently swirling about. It made for a rather nice walk is the into the core of a little quaint town. We came upon the Fritz, entering into a warm atmosphere of rustic referred to as a gastro pub. The Fritz isn't your cheap dive or a average spot to dine. It has the ambience of a peaceful setting, throw back to the yester years. We were shown a our table and ordered our beers. A selection of many popular and many unheard of beers. As we waited for our beer, we explored the menu, an interesting piece of art in the way it was crafted. You knew for sure you weren't in just a regular place to eat. The food ranged from bacon wrapped dates to sweet potato fries, bison sausages (made like a German sausage) and beet salad to chicken brie sandwich. The beers arrived, they weren't your typical craft beers, but still in the basic concepts, pale ale's, stouts, IPA's, fruit Lambic to Pilsner to name a few. Many are locally crafted beers. You won't run short of a type to try, in fact your short time waiting is cut in half browsing the list. The menu although not huge as some restaurants are, quite simple, but prepared in a dominance style of savory, flavor filled and pristine choices of quality ingredients. The meats are fresh, potatoes are solid and just right, not too soft or too hard and the lettuce and garnish crisp and tasty and a certain hint of healthy as the blends work off each other. You must stop by and try this maybe once in a lifetime experience. I don't think you will be disappointed. To end this experience, we left for our walk back to the house, with now at least a few inches of snow on the ground and still floating down gently. read more

Eat at this restaurant, we know good food, the wait is worth it! Three of us walked in on a busy Friday night. There was a waitlist, asked if we would be okay with a 2 top for the 3 of us. We were very hungry after a 10 hr drive, said yes. Added our names and they had a table ready almost to the minute they said they would. Incredibly kind and engaging even with a very packed house. Had a great cocktail, then the food... THE FOOD! Was with my sons who consume mass amounts, we got so much (plates small to large). Shrimp & grits, chicken tikka masala and the "pig & fig" were exceptional - so much of the rest was amazing as well. Would order all items again. Impressed with pace everyone keeps, with the speed of food delivery and the experience overall. Owner was engaging and working in the business just as hard as anyone and it shows. Extremely disappointed... This restaurant, by far, has the best food in town. That said, I have never been treated so poorly as I have by the fritz. They do not accommodate larger reservations, the wait staff is short and extremely rude with potential customers, and the owner couldn't care less. A very inviting place. We had been traveling from Northern Colorado to Pagosa Springs and Salida was a good halfway point. The food was creative and very, very good. I would have given 5 stars but there is a problem with the way the food came out. First of all, the cocktails were inventive and great. The problem was each time we visited The Fritz, we were never asked if we would like another cocktail or something else. We placed our order for dinner and were surprised when the starter, entree and sides all showed up at the same time. Small tables and 4 separate items did not work. This happened on 3 different visits so it must be their way of doing things. A great charred Caesar salad, steamed mussels, burgers, and other items were worth the drive. The owner waited on us 2 of the 3 times we visited here and the food-all-at-once must be their MO. We will be back only order as you go is my recommendation. read more

They were apologetic for length of time on service but really we got EXCELLENT food at almost fast food times. Good ambience nice patio. This place is legit!! Went back again the following week. Had my buddy with me who owns the Trailhead Taphouse in Golden Colorado. He was super impressed with the Fritz! We do a high five (round of beers for the kitchen staff) for sure! There's a cool outdoor patio but inside is very cool plus a nice bar. If you go to Salida--bypass more popular places and get better food with less time waiting on a table. read more

Enjoyed a divine meal here. I got there early (5PM) for a quick dinner. Was able to sit outside and enjoy the music playing across the street. I didn't have a wait but I have no doubt they get busy when it's closer to normal dinner hours, so keep that in mind. Staff is very attentive. It's interesting because I couldn't tell you for sure who my waiter was... At least 5 different people interacted with me at my table. A bit odd, but it didn't bother me. As for the food? Delightful. It's great that they have larger entrees as well as small plates so you can try a bunch of things. I started with their beet salad with Gorgonzola and micro greens, which at first seemed like odd components in a dish but was surprisingly cohesive and delicious. I then moved on to their special for the day: mussels with French fries on top. Doesn't get much better than that. Only had one gritty mussel (I think there's a gritty one that always slips in) but the rest were perfect. Served in a white wine/shallot broth... YUM. Check this place out for sure. Always a delicious treat to eat here when stopping in Salida on our way through the mountains! This trip we had the Steak Fritz and Burger of the day - perfection! In the past, I've really enjoyed the small plate of the steak and horseradish. We treated ourselves to a brownie at the end, along with some coffee. I was pleased to find it came in a french press -- I could make it as dark as I wanted and it was more than 1 cup! Wonderful. The patio is pleasant and service friendly. Thanks for being open on a Sunday, too! The only suggestion I would have: add more local Colorado brews to your list on tap or bottled! read more

This place delivered! We started out with the ravioli of the day and pork belly sliders. Then we had grilled romaine, rabbit and elk sausage and steak - little plates. We finished it off with a brownie topped with salted caramel ice cream. My only complaint was that the brownie could have been warmer and gooier, but the ice cream was quite tasty.
