Passing through Mount Dora, a quaint little kitchy, touristy town, we decided to give this pub a try for lunch. It opened at Noon and soon became quite busy. We had the Reuben Sandwich and the Bangers & Mash, both coming with salads. The meals were average: the Corned Beef and the Bangers had little taste. The noise level was extremely high due to a constant loud a/c system combined with piped in music and resonating patrons. Yes! New owners and a new start! I used to love the Frog & Monkey, but it started going downhill several years ago, so I stopped in less and less. It seemed to become dark and dingy and old. While they used to have the best burger in Mount Dora, that went downhill as well. Fast forward to a new ownership- and a new start- we decided to try and see if the hype was true- and lo and behold- it was even better than before! Now it was bright and cheerful again! We walked in and the place was packed and buzzing! A band was playing on the tiny bandstand, but not too loud to be distracting. The amount of beers is incredible, and the burger- again, the Best in Mount Dora! Service was friendly and fast, the decor, while similar to the old place, seemed brighter and happier. Worst service. Burger took over an hour and staff was upset with us. Bacon Cheeseburger Rodrigo, as a business owner you stood at the end of the bar with your friends while 5 staff members stood outside your kitchen doing nothing. Loved their litely smoky grilled taste burger. Cooked a perfect medium along with the pickle slices. If you go to this restaurant, whatever you order, don't miss out on their onion straws. I hate to only provide 2 stars b/c the place had a great vibe and I've heard the food is good but the live entertainment was playing way too loud for a small confined place at dinner time with those acoustics. I am an amateur musician myself and I know the tendency as a performer to think that louder must always be better but it was definitely hurting the vibe. And when I mentioned it to the wait staff (two different ones) they gave me a look that told me they agreed but they made no attempt to have him turn things down a notch. The ambiance from the front to the inside is adorable. Charming and cozy little place with adorable character. I can't say enough about that. The food was very good. We ordered the french onion soup and I will be ordering that again. So good. I got the cottage pie, my guy got the teriyaki grilled chicken salad that included pineapples and apples. This Frog and Monkey is a gem tucked away in the town of Mt. Dora. First of all, it's located beneath a market so the ambiance is reminiscent of restaurants you'd find in Savannah, GA or Charleston. I really enjoyed this spot. It is in the "basement" of the building so it was definitely different to head downstairs in Florida. We did have a reservation since we were a larger party and the table was ready when we arrived. We were promptly greeted and ordered some beverages and the kids food since they were hungry. One had the chicken tenders and fries and the other did some wings (naked). They were both hot and cooked correctly and the kids enjoyed them. We opted for some started of edamame and beer battered mushrooms. The edamame was cooked perfectly and a large portion for the full table to share. I really enjoyed the mushrooms and they were Portobello spears so felt more substantial in size. Great flavor and not mushy like you can get at other restaurants. For my meal I did the lamb burger. Mine was cooked well and juicy. There was a bacon jam and onion straws on the burger as well. It was a good mix of flavor and was cooked well. I guess it depends on what you want. If you're looking for a boisterous spot with flowing drinks, and live music then yes, by all means this is the place for it. I almost didn't stay to be honest. The noise factor when we arrived was so bad I felt like I was close to having a panic attack but luckily people started to shuffle out and it was calmer,quieter. I had the portobello wrap which looks and tastes more like a quesadilla to be honest. (See pic) the fries were forgettable, I should've ordered a side salad instead. My friend ordered this massive burger and the funny thing is if you compare her monstrous plate of food to mine, there is a huge portion difference and yet our menu items cost pretty much the same. If I were to eat here again in the future, I wouldn't get the wrap again. Service was fast, but my friend got gipped $5 from her bill and I admit it's our fault for not realizing it and bringing it to Ambers attention (our waitress) at that moment, all I can say is that if you're paying with cash, make sure you get correct change back. read more

The place was packed, as one can expect on a Saturday night in downtown but the staff was very attentive to both tables and our needs. I had the grilled chicken sandwich which was pretty tasty! Edit: The response from the manager is very unprofessional. How is reviewing a restaurant based on my experience bashing? I am simply stating what I experienced and what potential guests could experience in the future to avoid people having to go through this same situation. Before this, I was thinking about coming back to give the restaurant another chance, but now I definitely won't. We did express our concerns and even asked why the restaurant was still taking people's names, even under their situation. Again, I'm sure you'll edit your response based on what I'm adding, but it does show how you think the customer is wrong based on what I've said and the other low reviews, and your responses back to them. We waited 45 minutes for our table, just for the waiter to come after 10 minutes and tell us that he couldn't take our order due to the fact the kitchen was behind. He said once he was able to come take it, then at that point it would be an hour and a half before we got our food. You'd think it being a Saturday they would be prepared for a busy day. Went to the Frog&Monkey last night. Found this gem of a restaurant and pub nestled in the lowest level of one of Mt. Dora's customarily old buildings. I ordered the LAMB Burger (not to be confused with HAMburger), it was perfectly cooked and garnished. The seasoning of lamb was fantastic, best burger I've had in a long time. My fiance and I drove from Winter Park, FL to Mount Dora, FL just to try The Frog and Monkey after I saw an article praising it for its food and atmosphere. I so wanted this to be a "5-Star" experience and it started out strong, but alas the disappointment started to snowball after the appetizer. The Frog and Monkey (named after the two friends who own it: Monkey works in the kitchen and Frog at the bar) is in the heart of downtown Mt Dora in a plaza called The Renaissance. All seating is either high top or low top wooden tables and the bar separates the two halves of this small pub. The live music was fantastic (I wish I remembered the name of the female performer, but I'm horrible with names - anywho, it was her birthday and she rocked it!) and the volume level was perfect. Our server was nice as well. For an appetizer, we opted for the chicken wings since they were out of the Wisconsin cheese platter. The wings were pretty standard chicken wings, but our server forgot to bring the salad dressing even after she mentioned that she forgot it and asked if we preferred ranch or blue cheese dressing. My fiance's ribeye steak dinner came with a side salad and he absolutely loved the house made Dijon honey mustard dressing. I ordered a cup of the French onion soup and can honestly say it was one of the best French onion soups I'd ever had. Since our soup and salad experience was excellent, we brushed aside the forgotten chicken wing salad dressing and anticipated a knock-your-socks-off entree experience. Spoiler alert: it wasn't. So, I ordered the chicken teriyaki salad (without raisins - I just don't like them). The salad was what I expected - points for grilled pineapple in a salad though - but I came across raisins. Now, it's fine - I can pick them out - but my concern is: what if someone with an allergy ordered a dish without a specific ingredient and they accidentally ingested the ingredient they were allergic to? I have friends with some very specific allergies and when they ask for an ingredient to be left out, if it's not, they can go into anaphylactic shock and pretty quickly. My fiance ordered the ribeye as the article that we read about The Frog and Monkey touted their steak as one of the best in the state. He ordered his steak "medium/medium plus" and explained what he meant to our server. When he cut into his steak, he and I clearly saw some portions that were "rare." When he showed it to our server she said, "Yeah, that's medium rare." My fiance corrected her and reminded her that he ordered it "medium/medium plus." She corrected herself and offered to have it cooked more. When it returned, it was still a little under done but with less flavor. My fiance just ate most of it, leaving behind the excessive amounts of fat (yes, a good steak does have some fat, but this was ridiculous - I should've taken a picture of the fat left on the plate afterwards). We both decided that although we'll make the hour-long trek to explore the rest of beautiful Mount Dora, The Frog and Monkey won't be included in our itinerary. read more

Just came out from this restaurant I ordered the French onion soup and the Portobello burger. While waiting for our food we enjoyed live music! I felt like it was a bit too loud. I had to yell everything I spoke. But the guy sang very well and he did sing a variety of great songs. But again it was a bit too loud for my taste. So we got our food fairly quick. I started with the soup which I really enjoyed very much! Warm, goowy cheese and lots of onion with a piece of thick white bread moisten into the soup. After that my burger Portobello mushroom burger and my friends Portobello wrap arrived. I honestly didn't expect it to look like a quesadilla. It really didn't look like a wrap. My burger was good but not great! I felt like the patty was a bit bland. But with the mushrooms, swiss cheese, and onion chips gave it flavor. It sure looked good though everything in between brioche buns! Which was nice and pillowy soft. When finished my order came out to $20.81. I gave the girl $40 because I didn't have any change and I wanted to give our waiter a tip. I asked her to take $5 for her and give me back $15. When she came back she only came back with $10. I thought maybe I made a mistake so I let it like that. Turns out half an hour too late I realized that she took $10 instead of just the $5 I told her to take. I don't know if it was that the music was too loud and she didn't hear me correctly or what but I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and hope she didn't decide to steal another $5. The live music on Friday night is great, the drink concoctions they have are excellent, food is top notch. Where can you a burger and bahn mi tacos or onion straws and a spicy Korean chicken sandwich at the same place? Let me put it this way, if you are cranky and old and complaining about the noise level, then go eat your prunes in the retirement home. This place is loaded with character, and it reminds me of some of the classic bars in Scotland. We had a great time in the bar area, and the food was spot on. My favorite dish was the deep fried mushrooms. These tasty slabs of breaded portobello caps were savory and delicious. In fact, I would return for those fungus beauties alone. read more

Nice Irish Bar that we stopped in to have a beer after walking around Mount Dora. One of the workers was wiping down all the door handles when we walked in SSI we greatly comfortable coming in.
