I love Sundays! If I'm not with my grand babies then I'm catching up with friends. The group suggested we eat at The Fusion Restaurant and try their breakfast Buffet. I've never heard of this place and I always love supporting local It's a local family-friendly restaurant with american comfort foods and reasonable prices. My favorites? The crispy bacon and the amazing potato salad. It was the best potato salad I've EVER tasted! It gave me goosebumps. Here's the thing. I haven't eaten here yet, but I want to. Now hear me out. They sponsored a food truck roundup in their parking lot, but they generously offered the inside of their place to have a seat to eat your food trucks grub. That's not all. They were serving alcoholic beverages if you wanted to purchase some. On this nite, they were not serving any of their own food. No competition with the food trucks . What a concept! Honestly-- we used to love this place so much. Sunday brunch was out absolute favorite in town. We loved how they changed their menu & kept things fresh & exciting... we have only been to the new location once & honestly, won't go back. The gravy, gross. My friend and his daughter had burgers, tasty. They opted for onion strings versus potato chips (chose at last minute when other patrons chips were being served overly fried). Original. Authentic. Flavorful. Affordable. Large portions. Filling. This place was spectacular on every level! Authentic southwestern food. I haven't had an authentic tamale for years. The waitress was so personable and calm. Biscuits and sausage gravy. Top of the line bacon and one of the most flavorful breakfast sandwich I've ever had. We got a side of bacon to start off, two coffees and water. We also ordered three entries- the tamales too (10/10), the fire starter (10/10) and a full sized biscuits and gravy (10/10). All for $31.00. Just wow. We got way more than we needed, and obviously have leftovers. The place wasn't too full, they've only been open a year. Originally named "Soul Sisters Fusion," I'm sure they realized that it was quite a misleading title. They have a brunch buffet on Sundays too, but it didn't start until 10. We will 100% be going back to this great new restaurant on Douglas and Meridian. I know this is not a popular area for most I know, but personally I am very familiar with the area since my mom worked at a take out place right around the corner when I was young. The atmosphere and clientele are definitely indicative of the Wichita I grew up in. LOVE. UPDATE- from 5 stars to 2. so I've returned about 3-4 times and each visit was progressively worse. This restaurant was such a great experience. Service was top notch- so friendly. My husband and I started out with their cheesy corn dip- it was fantastic. What really set the appetizer over the top was the homemade tortilla chips. I had the Pollo Benedicto. The chili verde cream sauce was so good on top of the eggs, shredded chicken, and jalapeño corn bread. Make sure you try their blueberry iced tea- it's so so good!! Went to West Central location for breakfast and will never go back. Terrible service. Slow to get waited on and then had a drink spilled on us with no apologies nor offer to help clean up. I saw a couple friends post on Facebook about eating here, it's close by, so decided to try it. Vickie was my server, friendly, and thought about what I needed before I asked! That is becoming a rare thing. I had biscuits with sausage gravy (pepper was added by me) and a side of bacon and an Iced Tea. The side comes with three slices, but only two were done with my meal, so Vickie told me about it and brought the third slice before I even started on the bacon. The sausage gravy was amazingly tasty, with fresh sausage made in house. Really kicked the flavor up considerably. The bacon wasn't crispy, so I didn't think I would like it. Well, I was wrong. It's applewood smoked bacon cooked perfectly. I didn't notice fatty bits like you get on most bacon. The consistency was good chewing, kind of like a tender, easy to eat jerky. Very flavorful and yummy. The desserts were bread pudding or Key-lime pie. Neither are things I would choose to eat. So perhaps one piece of advice is to have one more standard type of dessert, and one that would appeal to those with a favorite specialty. For a standard dessert something like a good gooey cinnamon roll, creme brûlée (I wish), cheese cake plain or with fruit, caramel or chocolate to fancy it up a bit, or tiramisu. Then join that with a specialty of the day. I wanted to try the biscuit minus gravy, so opted for a biscuit with butter and honey. The biscuit was good, as it should be in a Southern inspired establishment. Vickie finished me off with an Iced Tea to go. I am torn between 4 and 5 stars only because of the lack of dessert options including anything I like. Another tip, you may consider adding some character to the dining room with art, perhaps offer to show the work of local artists, or antiques on the walls. It's 10:00, too early for the really crazy ones - but Delano Diner is ready for you when ya need to sober up! We had the Bierock with fries and Chicken and Waffles. The entire meal was great. Hard to find that combo in Wichita, so late after a good movie. Server was overly friendly and fun to talk to. In general, we tipped well and we're good Yelpers. This restaurant's name does themselves a disservice in two different ways: Firstly, as other reviewers have indicated, including "soul" in your name immediately draws connections to soul food, and you're not likely to find collards, fried chicken, and black eyed peas here. Secondly, the term "fusion" in the restaurant industry went out of style in the mid 90's. What was once a word needed to describe the combination of cooking styles and flavors from multiple cuisines is now simply a hallmark of modern American cooking. I hear a restaurant use that word in 2017 and it makes me think they're trying too hard to sound interesting. It's a shame, because the restaurant has a legitimately unique approach to the food their cooking that's not otherwise available in Wichita. I'd call it a modern Mexican-American brunch spot: the menu is peppered with things like jalapeno and cheddar waffles topped with carnitas, churro french toast, and meatloaf served with chihuahua cheese and chipotle aioli. You can't have a brunch restaurant without bacon and for some wonderful reason they carry Nueske's, a brand of bacon from Wisconsin that is among the best quality stuff you're likely to find. It makes for a mighty fine BLT, or rather a BEAOLT, a bacon-egg-avocado-caramelized onion-lettuce-tomato sandwich called the Spanglish. Beefing up the traditional BLT with avocado and caramelized onions is a nice way to make the sandwich feel more substantial, and despite the large number of potentially sloppy ingredients (to include my sunnyside-up egg), everything held together well between thick slices of bread. The bread could have been toasted a little better, but it was a well-made sandwich. Not a lot of restaurants go to the trouble of making their own fried mac and cheese balls, so it'd be worth trying Soul Sister's version, which doesn't use as thick of breading as you'd find in the mass market versions and comes with a little bit of that chipotle aioli to cut through the richness of the cheese. The roasted cauliflower potato soup sounds better than it is - good flavor from the cruciferous vegetable but accompanied by only a tiny bit of chopped onion and carrot sunk to the bottom of the bowl. A better option would be the pozole, a pork and hominy Mexican classic that works well in the bridging the Mexican and American themes of the restaurant. It wouldn't be a restaurant without a brunch buffet, and Soul Sisters offers a friendly one, providing a large sample of the menu as well as some interesting dishes that aren't on the menu, such as picadillo, a hash of ground beef, vegetables, and raisins, or a breakfast casserole that stacks the house meatloaf with biscuits, scrambled eggs, and gravy. Surprisingly, nothing dries out, and this serves as a better versions of the eggs or biscuits that are available separately on the line. My first impression of Soul Sisters was eating the salad from their lunch buffet. I picked up a tomato and was surprised to find it was ripe and flavorful, traits that are sometimes hard to come by in restaurant tomatoes. There's a lot of little things, from the restrained menu to the solid and eclectic colors of the decor to the seasoning of the food that show a lot of care and skill went into the construction of this restaurant in a way that sets it apart from the typical Wichita restaurant. It deserves a spot among Wichita's top breakfast spots. read more

I just finished eating here and I couldn't wait to leave a great review!! They did a great job with the decor inside of their spacious restaurant. It's bright and eclectic, but still feels homey. I arrived a little before noon and was one of the only people there. Things picked up a little bit while I was there, but not much. Struggling to decide on my lunch, the kind waitress recommended The Spanglish burger (which when reading its description is not very evident that it's a burger) After about ten minutes, I had a perfectly cooked burger in front of me. BEST BURGER OF MY LIFE. The meat is ground and blended in house...I believe she said it had beef, brisket, and bacon ground together! Smoky and sweet all at the same time. I don't even know what all was on it anymore but it was so delicious...something along the lines of avocado, chipotle aioli, lettuce, tomato, and a sweet pepper relish. Their sides are limited and I went with the homemade chips. I'm not a huge fan of homemade chips but the other options didn't appeal to me either. My mom, a couple friends, and I went here for lunch today. Let me tell you what - it was AMAZING. Everything, the food, the atmosphere, the service. Start to finish, awesome lunch. I had the biscuits and gravy. The gravy was to die for. And oh my goodness, the biscuits were so good and fluffy and perfect. We also had the cauliflower potato soup - which was wonderful and seasoned perfectly. One of the other gals got the chilaquiles and it's going to be a hard choice on which entree I pick next time I go in.
