We haven't been here in a while so we decided to go for brunch today. My husband got the peaches and cream french toast special, and I got the classic breakfast for the first time. The french toast was really good. It was nicely balanced and not too sweet. The warmed peaches added great flavor. The classic on the other hand was a standard breakfast. The eggs were tender, the potatoes were crispy and I love the soughdough with preserves. The sausage on the other hand wasn't my favorite. They weren't bad, I just didn't enjoy the spices. Next time I'll try the links or bacon. Today we showed up around 1030a and the resturant was busy. The later in the day you come the busier it gets. Mary and I stopped in for the first time today; this place has a worn but comfortable feel. We were greeted by friendly staff and seated. I ordered the Spaghetti and Eggs; Spaghetti noodles sauteed in a light olives oil sauce, with sun-dried tomatoes garlic and red chili flakes. Topped with shaved Parmesan and goat cheese, 2 eggs over easy, sourdough bread, and duck sausage. Delicious!!! Had the worst service at the Garnet today. Everything was great until our food came. Then we were completely ignored. Tried several times to get waitress attention because we had no utensils on the table. After several minutes had to stop her to ask for some. She never stopped to check to see if we needed anything else during the meal. To add to that there were dishes left on the table from previous diners. First off it was packed so I was hopeful! First time here &&& probably won't be back, Was wanting to dip my toast into eggs so I ordered eggs over medium & as you see in the picture there is no yoke lol. Potatoes are a little under cooked for my taste buts that's just a preference, if they had any flavor what's so ever they would be edible. Bacon waaaay under cooked for my comfort. What gem, got to experience the Garnet cafe. The little spot is super popular with the locals and I see why, first off service was friendly and playful but very attentive and efficient, felt so welcome and appreciated. Some crazy stuff on the menu, I will try at a later date, Like the Duck sausage and egg sandwich or the spaghetti and egg breakfast , or simply the HUGE. Cinnamon roll pancakes... my wife had the Honey vanilla yogurt with granola and fruit, pineapple unexpected but delicious with the strawberries and blueberries . My breakfast was the pork fried steak and eggs , a breaded pork cutlet with fresh country gravy... SO GOOD Ok so let's talk about the lemon curd.... On the window it says , When life gives you lemons , make lemon curd ". People give them your lemons OMG, honestly such an interesting curd, sweet and savory and it is amazing mixed with the raspberry jam for your toast .. but to me it will work just as well for a savory pop of lemon, used like an aioli.. I bought a jar to bring home .. the magic 8 ball on counter told me it could not be frozen ... and the waitress told me the same after asking the Chef.... We went to the Garnet Cafe after reading the many reviews about how it is the best breakfast in CDA. After swinging by for a weekday morning breakfast, I don't understand the hype. Food is okay, ambiance / decor is homey, and it's an affordable option - but it was far from the best breakfast in CDA in my opinion. I will caveat my review by saying we didn't eat a lot. The most bothersome part of our experience was the flies. They were EVERYWHERE! They landed on our food, our faces, and just buzzed about. The waitress, who was very friendly and prompt, remarked it was impossible to keep them away - but I respectfully disagree. This is an indoor dining establishment. Flies in a restaurant is not only unappetizing, it is unsanitary. I'm not so uptight that I believe a fly here and there makes a place dirty, but the volume in this establishment was beyond reasonable and ultimately led us to ask for a box to get out ASAP. We ended up trashing the food right after because flies had touched everything. Garnet Cafe has some interesting options such as duck sausage, breakfast spaghetti, and falafel. Overall, the food was fine. Our omelettes were similar to what we would receive at a spot like IHOP. Portion sizes are large, and they have good tea and coffee. They also have alcohol for those looking for a Sunday Funday. I would come back to Garnet Cafe if meeting others and they chose the spot, but would not choose to come back here myself. We came in with high expectations after reading all the positive reviews. I think this is a pretty ordinary breakfast spot that had a severe fly issue the day we stopped in. I was so happy to see this place still around I thought they had gone out of business. Service was fine The decor was not nearly as charming as the original location The food was horrible. I haven't had something so bad in a long time. My mom couldn't eat hers and at least the waitress didn't charge us. I got the mclovin. The egg was odd rubbery maybe , I took it to go after a few bites thinking I could make it work later. But ended up having terrible stomach cramps after. Which I never have had. The food was great, service was above average (although I did have to wait quite a while for my coffee to be refilled after the first top off). I had the Cinnamon roll pancake, my wife and daughter both had the berry "filled" French Toast and we all had bacon. They were all worth coming back for but it was $50 for a basic, no frills breakfast. That may be standard in today's market but it's still too much. This place is really good! I saw it on North Idaho 's Foodies group in NextDoor. I had never heard of it, even though I drive by its store very often I didn't notice it because it's a very plain building with a rough look to it. It does have sign, but I just never bothered to look at it because nothing drew me too it. But the reviews of breakfast did. How rough does it look? My son was afraid to go in when we pulled up. He's 12 and usually perceptive. By that all changed when we walked in. It was a very old town homey feeling. The hostess who led us to our seat and brought us water and menus was super kind. Our sever was equally kind and efficient. She recommended some great choices for us and we loved them. I had the Northwest with lox, fresh veggies and cheese. Sounds simple but was oh so delicious and satisfying. My son had the country Benedict. He loved it. We each tried each others and loved 'em. We will surely be back for more! P. S. The Garnet used to offer amazing, 10/10 breakfast in a little dumpy house on a residential street in town. That cafe is dead. After they moved to their commercial location, we went for breakfast and found it to be a 5/10 lukewarm, no atmosphere. Yesterday, about 2 years later, for my birthday, we tried it again. Worse. Heartbreaking. Cheap food service ingredients, lukewarm, stingy portions, overcooked vegetables, WAY overpriced. Excellent service gets 2 stars, food gets one. read more

It was crowded the Saturday morning when we went, but that's a good sign for the quality of the food that you're going to find there! Also, they have spam and eggs. Yes, they really do.
