They didn't serve us. Walked in with my family and they ignored us as we waited for a place to sit, even though there was an empty table. Another patron had to tell them to seat us. When we finally sat down a gentleman asked us for our drink order and said our waitress will be with us shortly. Was there for almost 10 minutes and she never came to take our order or even greet us. She walked around filling coffee cups, filling sugar containers and went out of her way to ignore us. When she sensed our annoyance, she still didn't come over to us. When we told her we were leaving she didn't care as if she was hoping we would leave. Can't prove it was due to our race, but it sure felt like it. Thank you yelp for leading us here. This is one of a million small restaurants in mini-malls in FL, but way better than typical. The food is homemade: I could taste the difference especially in the biscuits. It's family run: I believe that Dad was cooking, mom waitressing, daughter busing, and Grandma working the counter when we visited. Everything was very good, including the service and decor. Immediately upon walking in, I was greeted by a lovely woman and her young daughter. She was very helpful with recommending their speciality homemade cinnamon buns. The menu looks fantastic and specifies which breads are made in-house. It's a small restaurant, only 7 tables, so I can see how it gets busy fast during peak times. With that said, eating the homemade breads were life changing. I honestly don't think I'll ever be the same. They were perfectly light and fluffy with a nice crunch on the exterior. This hidden gem (no pun intended) is a wonderful place to go for southern comfort food. The service is great and the people who work there are so accommodating. We were in on a Sunday morning. The restaurant was nearly full and we got one of the last available tables. We were greeted right away, our drinks and orders taken care of right away. The staff worked together with one person bringing menus and silverware, then taking the drink order and bringing us our drinks, another server took our food order and checked on us throughout the experience. Other servers filled our waters and coffees. You could tell it was a family environment. The food was outstanding, as always. I had sausage gravy and biscuits, my husband had two eggs, potatoes and bacon. We shared a cinnamon roll as an appetizer - and took almost all of the food home. The claim to fame is the cinnamon roll. It's as big as a dinner plate! The fresh-baked bun was warm and soft, the bottom of the bun caramelizes while it bakes and is an amazing crunchy caramel. I will say the shopping center it is located in is not the most appealing. But as soon as you walk in it is small but decorated very nice. Our waitress was very nice. At Sunday just past 12 noon this place was still full but only 2 persons waiting in chairs outside to be sat inside (dining room). Menu looks great and has many choices. It is a mature adult female and two teens who were waiting on the tables. A kid approached and I stated I had a question which question I proceeded to ask with her talking over me trying her hardest not to hear my question and her turning her back (on me) as if facing the mature woman for some sort of cue. I then asked (another question) who would be the server. She said herself (would be) or the woman pointing backwards and over her shoulder at the mature one. I indicated I wanted water to drink (due to No Cappuccino on weekends) and asked (3rd question) whether I could order. Seemed like she did not want to take the food order but, because I asked to order, she did take the order. It took a long wait for the food to be prepared. I looked up and over and saw server walking around with cellphone and thought "what a sign of the times" only to see her turn away to say bye to a co-worker or two and exit the establishment without so much as a goodbye to me. I'd say all this was a rocky start and not the hospitality I had hoped for. The other teen- after quite a long wait- brought the food out. Right away I noticed there was no butter for the toast. The mature woman, while unable to see, asked the teen from 1/2 way across room (dining room) whether she had brought out butter and jelly (breakfast condiments) prompting her to go get them for the toast I got with my veggie Add Cheddar Cheese omelet. My breakfast also brought Grits. The Grits were a good consistency but were not particularly good. I discussed the Grits with a dining companion who stated the Grits "were not homemade." We both discussed liking Stoneground Grits which these are not. If not homemade, I wondered whether these are instant type Grits. Omelet was very good on Sunday. Kudos to the omelet chef. In tiny room where everybody ate one diner talked loudly, constantly so everyone would hear his girlfriend was Dakota Johnson. The whole experience was "a trip" and not necessarily great on every point. Delicious omelet though. 4 stars for some effort as the place was busy. read more

After seeing Gems Eatery on YELP I had to try the Cinnamon roll. I was not disappointed! Fresh out of the oven is no joke, I waited several minutes for it to cooled, cut frosted and boxed. This was going home to be shared with my wife. I had a hard time driving those 6 miles home. So tempted to stop and devour the whole thing. The wait was worth it. . This is the GOAT. There are not many tables and the inside is small so I'd imagine the wait can be really long sometimes. Im not sure if there's a call ahead option, but if definitely check before going. The food was delish, but that cinnamon bun has to be the best one I've ever had. My only complaint was that it didn't come out very hot, barely even warm. The place has been on my list forever and close by but we have never been good about straying from our usual spot in Coral Springs. One day we decided to take a different route and head to Margate instead. Hubs had to get his giant cinnamon bun and it was insane, it's an absolute must have. I got the Morning Gem sandwich which was a breakfast sandwich on pressed Cuban bread. I would have loved it more if I didn't get the sundried tomato sauce, which I could have done without- it just wasn't my vibe that day. I wouldn't discredit them for it though- that was on me since it was an addition I asked for when they asked me what sauce. I was craving cinnamon rolls and my Yelp search led me to The Gem Eatery. I have to say, they certainly hit the spot! I got both their classic and seasonal pumpkin cinnamon rolls to try. The classic was a hit with the whole family - very light and not too sweet, with plenty of cinnamon filling and a good balance between crisp exterior and gooey middle. The pumpkin was also very good! I love that they incorporate actual pumpkin into the filling and thought the little pumpkin candy decoration was super cute. The cinnamon rolls were both massive and a great size for sharing. To stave off the impending sugar rush, I also got a Morning Gem Sandwich and the loaded home fries from their specials menu. The sandwich was super tasty, and I love that it was served on pressed Cuban bread. The loaded home fries were good, but I think I'd stick with the standard version next time. If I had any critique about the experience, it would be the wait. My party ended up waiting a really long time for our food to come out, and I think staff could've been a bit more attentive. First off let's be clear, this review is not to bash the owners of their business, but rather a complex review on the food alone. We of course found this using Yelp and with everyone complimenting how great it is. We met the wife and she explained that is was hers and her husband's restaurant. That most everything was made from scratch and prepared to order. With so many options, we danced around the menu. She told us they are known for their cinnamon buns but everything is good from the menu. The popular standards were: Cinnamon French Toast, Corned beef hash, Eggs Benedict w/ homemade crumpets ( English muffins), Buttermilk Pancakes. We ordered all of them so we could try everything, even a side of homefries. The Cinnamon French Toast arrived first, there were three full peices appeared like Wheat bread gridded with powdered sugar sprinkled on top. The sliced bread was over processed or old, I had a hard time cutting it with my fork, and it had no flavor. I would have like the standard Texas Toast dipped in a Cinnamon vanilla batter. Moving on; the Buttermilk Pancake was amazing. You can tell it was made, you could taste all the flavors. Just added butter and syrup. Yum ! The eggs Benedict was almost perfect, except the crumpets. They were somewhat doughy and left on the flattop and over toasted. This made it very difficult to cut and made it very hard to eat. The Corned beef hash, This is a peasant dish. It should be full of flavor and light and fluffy. Corned beef, potatoes, onions, bell peppers. Simple; their hash was so over processed, pressed and burnt. The shredded Corned beef felt like salty burnt splinters. And finally the home fries. If they had seasoning on them and were crispy this would have been great. Overall the owner / server came to drop the check. She noticed we didn't eat the French Toast, hash, or home fries. I didn't want to create an issue as the place was busy with locals. We just told her we sampled everything and were full. Overall we would come back for the pancakes and the benedict and possibly try other options. I'm hoping it was just an off day as the owner was super sweet. After receiving a message from the business manager, I tried to send them a private message with no luck. I had to admend to my original review post. Thank you for your response to our review of your establishment. Im not misevaluating your dish. Please remember that Yelp is about reviweing your food based on individuals dining in your restaurant. I didn't say the Cinnamon bread was wheat bread, I said it was over processed and looked like wheat bread. My advice is that you should try it before you serve it. Especially if your making it in house. Ingredients could be off, or us culinarians might of missed a step. Being consistent is the key to any restaurant.
