It's been about fifteen years since I've had a muffin from the Gingerbread Construction Company. When I was little I lived nearby and so my parents would, on the rare occasion of good behavior, reward me with a trip to the Gingerbread Construction Co. The worst parts were when we'd stop by there on my way home from the dentist and I had just had my teeth cleaned and fluoride put on so I wasn't allowed to eat my muffin for an hour or so. Instead I had to stare at that delicious muffin taunting me with its sweet soft goodness. Fast forward 15+ years: No more fluoride, no more need for good behavior, I beg my better half, who was working up in Winchester, to bring me a half-dozen of my fave muffins - Lemon Poppy Seed and Pumpkin Raisin. A hectic day at work and mindboggling weather made me forget my request until I walked in the door and saw that glorious box in front of me. I promptly took off all my clothes and ate my first Gingerbread Construction Co. muffin in years. And lo--- it was good. read more

These aren't muffins, they are cupcakes in disguise! Gingerbread offers a wide selection of traditional muffins as well as ones that could more aptly be described as cupcakes. I've tried their traditional muffins as well as their fancy ones such as the Strawberry Shortcake. Their coffee cakes that are the size of a small loaf of bread were also a hit at the office. My big criticism was their iced coffee. In my opinion it was sub par. So go here for the 5 star muffins and not the 2 star iced coffee. read more

Looking for a hostess gift? Stop by here for some gingerbread men. It can be July and they'll still be worth it! They're $2 each. If you ask any kid who great up in the area, they'll tell you the gingerbread girls are the best, because there's more frosting because of the way they make the dress. You can choose boy or girl, just make sure to buy enough! Also, I totally recommend the lemon poppy seed muffin, which has a little tiny bit of lemon filling inside. And the gingerbread muffin (worth the drive just for this!) has creamcheese frosting INSIDE of it, and powdered sugar on top. The gingerbread houses are nice holiday gifts, too, though I hear they're pricey to ship. read more

This is a childhood memory of mine--begging my mom to stop here and get me a gingerbread lady cookie. They were always delicious and such a fun treat because they come in boy and girl, so my brothers both got boys and I got the girl--really cute!! Really great muffins--especially if you're looking for a really sweet treat with frosting, etc. My mother LOVES the pumpkin raisin muffin loaf with cream cheese frosting. Really unique and delicious. MUFFINS! Despite the price per muffin, these little guys are delicious! Each individual muffin has it's top carefully sliced off and is paired with it's soul mate ..I mean filling. For example, one of my favorites: the chocolate raspberry muffin...filled with fresh raspberries and topped with whipped creme, chocolate shavings and drizzled with chocolate! A few other favorites of mine include banana creme (YUM), lemon poppyseed, Boston kreme, and carrot cake muffin. As you can see I love them all...even the plain ones such as corn and bran..Yes, I enjoy a bran muffin every so often! My point is, if you want something different to have for breakfast or even as dessert with coffee, the Gingerbread Construction Co. has what you need. The muffins make great gifts when visiting friends or relatives and always seem to put a smile on their recipient's faces! They're good but I'm not impressed. - They sell mainly muffins here, but they are trying to look like cupcakes. This can be misleading: note that the confections here aren't going to be as sickly-sweet as a cupcake. - We got the banana-something muffin, and a chocolate one filled with chocolate cream. I would say the banana one was all right: more like a plain vanilla muffin with a decent banana filling. Pretty good. The chocolate one was filled with a type of mousse, and it was ok too. I don't know when you'd get these: If you're going to a party, bring cupcakes, not muffins. And these are are still too sweet to be a muffin for breakfast. They're certainly fresh - but more like nice junk food than a breakfast or lunch item, you know? Hmm.... read more

Frozen? I am a little bit disappointed. Stopped by today about an hour and a half before they closed. Asked for a carrot cake muffin bread loaf. Was informed they didn't have any but that they actually freeze them in the back. Looks to me like they freeze their loaves on a regular basis, and then thaw them as they need them. I was under the impression, that everything would be fresh and bake daily. Why else would I shell out $10 for a muffin bread loaf? Really disappointed. Considering what I learned tonight, definitely not worth. You can even taste it, really dry on the inside. read more

Delicious, addictive, & fun! LOVEEEEE their muffins! I never ever used to like muffins esp from dunkin donuts or any other bakery, but a friend told me to try this place out. She was soooo right! they are sooooo scrumptious and good. I love their variety. I try something new every time. I also can taste the freshness of their muffins. For the almond orange muffin, theres real oranges inside it, juicy and delish! the strawberry shortcake one is to die for. Seriously, check this place out. they have so much to choose from. This is the fourth year that I have bought one of their gingerbread houses at Christmas for my grandkids. It's a Christmas tradition. They love tearing into it and devouring it. Still beautifully crafted and the gingerbread is delicious. I have gifted loved ones with them and everyone says it is the best gingerbread they've ever tasted. Looking forward to many tears of delicious gingerbread houses. read more

All I can say is..OMG! I'm a baker and a friend took me to this place to try out their pumpkin spice muffin and Ice coffee. I was stun to find such delectable goodness! They had an array of desserts to choose from and the place is decorated so nicely. I'm also very picky about my ice coffee and Gingerbread Constuction's coffee was amazing! read more

Honestly these are very very very much closer to a cupcake than a muffin, and I say that because they're the softest, fluffiest baked I've ever tried! The world is your oyster here....so many flavors (unique and classic) to choose from and so cute inside! read more

Overall, a decent bakery. Be careful of driving and missing it because it is on an intersection. The tea loaf was good, but expensive ($10). Muffins were decent ($2.50). The flavors were very interesting as some muffins looked like cupcakes rather than a muffin. I recommend the coffee cake and apple spice. read more

WOW! So apparently these are muffins. But they aren't the kind of muffins you get anywhere. These are essentially unbelievable cupcakes with a few muffin-type flavor options mixed in. My favorite? The Boston Cream. Followed by the Apple...Followed by the Chocolate Dream...Followed by the Chocolate and Raspberry. They really are all solid. Yes. there are other options (like the cookies, for example, which tasted great), but why bother when they offer something so unique in the "muffins"?!? Prices are incredibly reasonable - $1.89 each or $7.39 for four muffins. Bargain for what you get. Worth the drive any day - but especially for a weekend field trip. So one of my coworkers brought in two boxes of these muffins for a meeting. These are not regular muffins! They are like cakes. I ate the strawberry shortcake one and it was so light and fluffy and delicious! I'm glad that the icing that they have on them is not too sweet. Definitely check them out if you are in the area! I really believe this place is overly rated by those who has been going there forever. When we first moved to Winchester this was the only place everyone was asking us if we have tried it yet. Well the first time we went there, store was full of big flies, the ones with shinny butts :-D Fly would keep landing on a muffin then another one fly over the case land on cake slices. When we told the person behind the counter they asked us which muffin we want... Needless to say I walked away and I wont be back.. I dont care how good it takes, if it is not clean I am not going to eat it. :-( read more

They are a small location located off of Washington St in Winchester. Their muffins seem to be the big hit. I usually get the strawberry shortcake, chocolate raspberry, or gingerbread muffins. Those seem to be my favorite. Their drink selection is limited. They do have flavored coffees and smoothies. Although once I wanted a smoothie and they for some reason didn't have certain ingredients available, so that was frustrating. It's convenient to go here since I live right down the street. :) read more

Who are they kidding? Muffins? These things are more like cupcakes dipped in heaven for under $2 a pop! Super Yummy! So far I have tried Strawberry Shortcake, banana creme, and chocolate dream. SO yummy! I also had a gingerbread boy which was the perfectly moist and tastey. I ordered the Blueberry Muffin and it was very good. They also have plenty of drinks such as vitamin water and drinks and cookies and candy. Great muffin selection. The only flaw is that they only allow 4 customers in at a time. Normally this wouldn't be too much of an issue but when it's 30 degrees out and there are 4 people outside in front of me it sucked. Yesterday was the first time I bought gingerbread cookies here that were inedible. Unfortunately, I usually don't ask for a receipt, (and didn't this time) or they would have gone back. The cookies and frosting decorations were so hard, that may have chipped a tooth if you tried biting into one. This company's products are not inexpensive. Hence, one would expect quality on every visit. And, these cookies were old, old, old. I'm in no hurry to head back. read more

Four Words - Awesome Awesome and Wickid Awesome! The GCCO is one of the best kept secrets in Winchester! I live down the street from this place and it is really hard to stay away. I always am tempted to go have a muffin, or two , or three! For about $4 I could get 2 maybe 3 muffins! The staff is great and the muffins are huge and tasty! Great place to take the kids too! Nothing spectacular here. Overpriced for what you would expect them to taste like. More like average muffins with a few interesting fillings or toppings. If you like the taste of cream cheese frosting then this is the place for you, since that seems to be the only frosting they know how to make, and they use it on so many. Sample several and you will see how the tastes blend into each other and bore your tastebuds to sleep. One trip is enough. read more

Chocolate Dream, Boston Creme - it's not fair to have to choose. So I had half of both... and they were fantastic. I stopped in on my way to a brunch to grab an assortment of muffins, and these were hands down the best muffins I've ever had. I love chocolate and I love cake, so these were perfect in my eyes since these two muffins in particular are more like a cupcakes with frosting. Although I didn't taste the Lemon Poppy seed, it was also a hit with others at the brunch. In fact, there were only positive comments about all of the muffins I brought. I'm not in Winchester that often, but next time, I am making it a point to come back to the Gingerbread Construction Co. to sample some of their other items. read more

I've tried this place a number of times over the years, hoping each time that I'd receive better service. No such luck, unfortunately. My kids like the crème filled muffins and the muffin breads are good too, however, the bad service spoils the whole experience. As someone already noted, the cases are not marked so if you want to know what's inside any of the muffins, you have to ask. The employees don't like that and act annoyed. Yet, they still don't mark the cases. I came in at around 5pm one weekday, an hour before they closed, to buy some muffin bread. While there, I decided to buy a latte. I was told they couldn't make it for me because they washed everything. An hour before closing! Not a place I want to come back to again. read more

Coffee is pretty good, not anything crazy. The muffins are pretty awesome, though, and definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. Muffin 'top' ratio is about 50%, which is pretty great. There are a ton of 'gourmet' muffins too, including the delicious carrot cake variety which has cream cheese frosting. I'd love to have this place down the street from my house. read more

I've had many muffins and cookies over the years from Gingerbread Construction, but have never been to one of the stores. I'm a huge muffin fan, and every muffin I've had from here has been delicious. The gingerbread cookies are perfect. Just the right crispy-soft ratio, if you know what I mean. It isn't right to get that perfect done-ness with gingerbread cookies. And the flavor. Ohhhh, the flavor. This shop is really cute. It's a little house on a random corner in Winchester, right near the hospital. It smells great, the selection is good, and the staff was helpful and friendly. Can't ask for more. Today I tried to save my pumpkin-shaped gingerbread cookie until we got home. I tried so hard. Then I tried to save half to have at home with coffee. I should have picked up coffee at the store too, because needless to say not a bite of cookie was left when we got home. It's really nowhere near us, but I can't wait to go back around Christmas and get gingerbread men for my family. read more
