Always great to find a reputable service provider in the Marine industry. We had a leak in our guest cabin and our main galley. After the big storms. The boat is approximately 20 years old so expectations were that we were going to have to pull the windows re-caulk them and reseal them and reinstall them, not a small job! They came out and quickly recognize that our windows needed adjustments AND that we were not supposed to have our screens in when they were closed. The leak wasn't because the windows need to be removed to replace. Huge Winn for me is the boat owner! They made the house (boat) call from the East Bay and came to our boat to review the situation. So recently I called to get a quote on installation of a 3 year old "retrofit" sliding glass door I harvested from my neighbor and wanted to install within the frame of my current glass door (the exact same frame as my neighbor). The Glass Man & Sons quoted me $1000 over the phone. I was told it would take two skilled men a full day to do the job. I turned it down. Two days later, I hired a contractor at $50 and hour and we both installed the door easily in less than two hours. So, yes, it cost me $100 for the installation start to finish. My message to The Glass Man & Sons is this: You price gouged me without ever bothering to examine the job and what it would take to do it. You walked away from potential work with the other windows and doors I need to have to replaced, as well as the other FORTY ONE units in my condo complex that need window and door replacements. We broke a tempered glass window on our sailing catamaran a little over 4 years ago. We hired The Glass Man & Sons to replace it, and they did in November 2019. They did a nice job. However, this summer, the adhesive used in the installation had failed and the window became loose. I contacted them, and they were going to re-bed the glass with the same adhesives and process as before. After questioning this, I did a bit of research on the adhesive products, as well as obtained info from the boat builder. Both said to use different adhesive products from the same company. I passed this info on to them, and they dug into it like a junk yard dog. It was a very technical situation, with the type of glass requiring a different group of adhesives and processes. They were in contact with the adhesive company in Europe, and really tried to figure out the correct process for our sailboat. After much back and forth consultation with the adhesive company, I was amazed at how they stepped up and took ownership of the installation, even though it was four years later. They took it as an educational learning experience, and re-bedded the window. They told me that they recently successfully replaced the windshield in a Coast Guard ice breaker, but apparently did not do the right process on our little sailboat. Bottom line is they made it right, and everyone learned something in the process. Their stepping up is very commendable. I have to recommend them highly for any marine glass work. I received good customer service, I wanted a shower door installation (labor only). I got scheduled, they arrived on time. Staff were friendly. But their quote for a pre-brought shower door installation quoted me was roughly 8 hours of work with 2 workers around $95 per hour per worker. Any additional drill bits to drill into the tile will be billed to me as needed, and in case any tile breakage, will be additional cost for tile repair. Totaling an estimate of around $1600 for labor shower door installation. I wanted to work with a local business. But the price was just over my budget. My estimate is considerably more expensive compared to Amazon, which I originally brought the door from. If I didn't buy my shower door I may have used them for a custom glass job, which for my 6 ft x 8ft shower area was estimated about $2300 for materials and labor. read more

They will 100% be my go to for window repairs. They know their stuff and were even able to handle the very unusual windows of my 1920s-era home. I never realized how hard it is to get a house window replaced until some punk kids decided it would be fun to celebrate the end of school by breaking the 5 foot x 5 foot window pane in the front of our house. After the police took the report and left (not much they could do), they told me to get an estimate for repairing the window. Sounded easy, but it wasn't. Do a web search for 'glass replacement' and you're set if you need to replace a car window, but it was really difficult to track down someone who could come replace our window that day. A lot of places didn't call back, some called back the next day, but The Glass Man totally delivered. They came by to take measurements within the hour, went to go pick up the glass, then came back. They were efficient, cleaned up after themselves, and were polite and friendly. They were also mindful of our 1-year-old's safety while they worked. And, they were affordble. Not recommended for quality polycarbonate fabrication. Presented us with rough and sharp edged unfinished product. Even broken where they drilled holes in the fabrication. Had to send back to the shop to smooth off. Told us polycarbonate was difficult to work with and its not what they like to do. Did not make the deadline they agreed they would, so had to return the following day. At least they discounted the price of their sub standard work. read more

These peoples prices are outrageous and their business practices are very questionable! I had a window repaired by these guys that was a warranty job (a widow they had installed the year before split). They agreed to replace the window if I paid for the glass (about $200). The bill they sent for the job was over $800 minus $250 for the glass which they said they were paying for. The exact opposite of what they said. When I called to discuss the bill they denied ever agreeing to provide the labor. I told them I could have installed a new window for the price they charged me. They said there was nothing they could do about it and that it was alot of work to install glass. So I called an other company for a quote for the same job. That glass company said they would do it for about $160. Boy do I feel stupid! My advice is do not even think of using the glass man in Alameda. read more

I recently bought a home complete with 1960s single-pane aluminium frame windows. One of the windows cracked and I had it taped with packing tape for months until the window washing company recommended Glass Man & Sons. These guys were fantastic - they promptly scheduled an appointment to repair the window and communicated in advance about their arrival time. When they arrived, we discovered they didn't have the right size glass panel in their van (my fault for mis-estimating the size). They took the frame back to their shop, replaced the glass, and drove it back to my house to install this evening. I'm sure these people do great work, but their quote for re-glazing 2 large windows was insane!! Economy Lumber recommended them for re-glazing; quote was over $4000 for 2 8' x 3' insul. glass, 1/2 story up, no big deal to do, we were just trying to save the old frames. SO, instead, we ordered vinyl new windows from Economy, $450 for the pair!! Install took 1/2 day, tearing out the old, about $500 labor w/Rent-a-Hector.. UNDER $1000 instead of $4000?
