I wanted to let you know about my experience with Lon's Glass. They installed a bathtub glass door that I had purchased from Lowe's, and from the moment the technicians arrived, the lead installer repeatedly complained that they normally don't install shower doors unless they come from their own showroom because they have to read the manufacturer's instructions. That immediately made me wonder why they accepted the job in the first place. Unfortunately, the finished installation reflects that attitude. The door functions, but the workmanship is very poor. One glass panel is visibly installed at an angle and sits much farther into the bathtub than it should, making the shower space noticeably smaller. The opposite panel is positioned differently, and the frame and guide look completely out of place. It simply doesn't look like a professional installation. The technicians told me their work was guaranteed for one year and suggested I contact the owner, Nick, if I wasn't satisfied. They even suggested replacing my brand-new shower door with one of theirs at a discount. That would mean writing off the $600 door I had already purchased, paying for another door, and paying for installation all over again after already spending about $500 on labor. I contacted Nick and asked him to come inspect the installation and bring brochures for the products they sell so we could discuss options. He scheduled appointments three separate times and cancelled every one of them at the last minute. The first time it was because of his anniversary, the second because of dinner plans with his wife, and this morning he cancelled again, saying there was no reason for him to come look at it at all. Considering he lives only a couple of minutes from my house, I found that especially disappointing. The owner finally messaged me and said I can pay $1,200 to install a window from his inventory but I found that product ugly and outdated. I emailed him and said I'm not interested. At this point, I've lost confidence in the company. Their workmanship was poor, they haven't stood behind their installation, and their warranty doesn't seem to have much value if the owner won't even inspect the work. It's impossible for me to trust them again and get messed up twice. read more

Lonnie has installed two of our shower doors in the last year and we could not be more satisfied. This last shower door had a bit of water leaking out of the top of the tub. I contacted Lonnie and he had Sergio come out in 45 minutes. Sergio took apart the doors, reapplied sealant under the seals and added a couple more seals. Our midcentury home had 9 huge single-pane windows and 3 equally huge but non-functioning sliding doors. The corner room was basically a hot-box, and the non-functioning sliding doors were an eyesore. Lonnie's team was able to replace all windows and two of the doors with low-e double-pane windows, and brought in a custom-made sliding door for the corner room. His team also did some custom carpentry to match the existing trim work. Now the windows all have a consistent look, and the corner room stays cooler than I could have imagined! Long overdue review for this business. I moved my business to San Leandro in 2015 and started getting quotes for a semi-obscure, fluted glass window in early 2016. I wanted a huge window to separate our front office from the building lobby. It had to be really strong, and also beautiful, to serve as a focal point. It was to replace an old, flimsy, plastic piece of garbage. From the design concept, to execution, to installation, and clran-up, everythin6g was perfect. To this day, I'm thrilled with the product and entire process. The owner is truly honest, very knowlegeable, skilled, professional and communicative. If I could give them zero stars I would. This company's quality of work is questioning how they are still in business. I hired them to come out and put mirrors on my wall and everything was great at first going back and forth with the owner. He seemed to have an understanding when I explain to him what I was trying to do with my kitchen wall and said he could handle the job with no problem. When he had his employees come out and install the mirrors I was excited and didn't get in there way and let them work. They started to put the mirrors and when I came home noticed broken glass chips on the floor. A glass piece broke and thank god it didn't hit my glass table. They didn't even clean it up right which is bad because I walk around the house barefoot and so do my kids and what if we cut ourselves. They tried to put everything in one day but they noticed it wasn't going to work because the mirrors started sliding. After they taped everything up and left from far away everything was looking great. Once the the tape came off from the mirrors I noticed everything. The tips of the mirrors were chipped and some on top of each other, a lot of spacing between the mirrors. Then at the top the mirrors were coming off the wall but the metal part was holding it from coming out. I Called the owner let him know what was going on to see what we could do to fix the problem. He Sent out his employees to look at it they pretty much just stared at each other and stared at the wall and the owner asked me to ask them if there's anyway they can fix it in which they replied no but in reality there was no way you would be able to fix it because we had chipped mirrors so then I asked The owner to please remove everything. I had given him a $2000 deposit, I asked him how much it would be to purchase the material because I could have my husband do it since he's a general contractor. Which I should of have him do it from the beginning but since he's always busy he asked me to just hire someone to come and do it. He even noticed that they try to put up all the mirrors all at once but that's not the correct way to do it because the weight of each mirror is very heavy they should have let a few of them dry before they started stacking another set of mirrors. I've been trying to get a hold of the owner and have no luck my husband has tried leaving messages as well and still no luck. He charge me $1500 in material for the mirrors and said he would refund me $500 I've been waiting over a month. When I picked up the material from him which would've been easier add more convenient if he would've dropped it off, my husband started to install the mirrors on the wall I noticed a lot of the pieces were scratched and chipped because they sold me the pieces they took down which in reality is not fair because it's use material and they should have checked more thorough to make sure that the pieces were perfect and scratch free. Now I'm sitting on bad material waiting for the owner to contact me and a wall that is not completed. I am not the kind of person who complains about companies because I own a company myself and I know it is very hard to please customers but I have given this owner a chance to help me out and get things going but I am fed up already. You can be the judge of his work from the pictures. Stay far away from this business. Should have checked reviews before hiring. My normal glass guy said 18 days. Went to Lon who promised 5 days. 5 days turned to 3 weeks. Many unreturned calls, promises not kept. Never use this company. For the last two weeks, he said the doors will be in tomorrow and then one day he said they would be in and I waited for him for an hour and no show. Now it's six weeks later and got the call today that the glass doors are in. Went back to Economy glass last week and the doors went in today. read more

We had tough window job at our house. We live in a penthouse condo and our 4th floor window had a huge crack in it. The condo association agreed to pay for the replacement window since it is essentially a wall and not a functioning window, meaning you can't open or close it and it is 7+ feet up off of the 4th floor. Anyway, two of the nicest guys came out to assess the window situation and quickly realized they needed to rent a lift for the job. The next part is where they lost a star. They said they could come back in a week with a lift but it was more like a few weeks later that they actually came back. The job was a hard one and they took their time, did a professional installation, and were very nice to have in and out of our home most of the day today. They were able to cut the enormous piece of oddly shaped glass on the sidewalk in front of our house and they did a phenomenal job cleaning up the pieces of glass and debris that rained down when they removed the old glass. read more

I am a real estate broker. I had a high end commercial install years ago with this company for a Berkeley project. They did a good job. I had another specialty entry to do for a client in Fairfield. So I tracked them down. I have a GC on the job and I assured the GC that Lon's was professional, reliable, and he would like working with him. He made the initial visit for the custom front door and I threw in two easy standard sliders as well. I asked for the bid to be separated for the sliders and the entry door. That was on 2/7/23. I have NEVER got a bid or a no-can do. Seriously? Not even for the sliders? I even provided a resource for the carved panels. ZERO communication. My GC installed the sliders and we are convening on the custom entry Tuesday. So yeah, lost a MONTH. And makes me look terrible that I recommended this company. read more

I don't like to give bad reviews but boy did this one earn it. We went into Lon's Glass and actually spoke with Lon. Nice enough guy, we told him we wanted a large piece of glass to cover our dining room table. We brought in our template, told him how thick the glass should be. He told us it would be 1 to 2 weeks and it would be delivered to our house and installed and it would not be any problem. We were so happy, we would have it before Thanksgiving. We called after our 2 weeks was up and Lon said the cutter lost our template. Another week went by and we called again. Lon said he would call the cutter to see if they found the template and give us a call back. A few days later my husband called and Lon said they found it and now it will be about 2 weeks to get our glass. Again 2 weeks went by and no calls. My husband and I went into the shop to ask Lon face to face what is happening with our glass. There was a woman that was there who told us that there was not any glass order there and she would have Lon call us that night. Yep, you guessed it NO CALL!! My husband called back the next day and Lon said I am really sorry to tell you this but the cutter has lost your template again. Now, I made this template and I am creative but I did not put feet and legs on it so it could run away at will. Next I went down to the shop myself and asked the boy that was working there, which I am assuming was Lon's son or grandson, also nice enough, what the status of my glass was. The boy's response was I don't find any order for you here at all. I asked if the order was in the computer and could he look it up. They do all of their orders via paper he said. I thanked him for what little he could help me with as he couldn't find anything. Once again a few days later we called, on speaker phone this time as I had to hear this unfulfilling answer we were going to get, Lon told us the cutter is once again looking for the template. We told Lon to call "the mysterious cutter" who has lost our template twice to leave it lost and cancel whatever paperwork our order was on as 2.5 months with absolutely NO communication from your company was terrible business. We were very patient and wanted to give our local guy our job in order to support the local small shops. Lon said it could easily be done in 1 to 2 weeks. I guess when I make the next template I will have to make sure that Dobby the house elf does not attach feet and legs as it sure caused Lon and " the cutter " much trouble. Needed to replace a dated and damaged gigantic oversized bathroom mirror. Reached out to a number of local businesses but super slow or no response from most places. Lonnie stood out by responding even when the store was closed. Got a competitive no fuss no frills quote on a Sunday, I decided to hire them on Monday, Lonnie got his installer to come out and take the measurements on Tuesday and then install the mirror first thing Wednesday. The installers were awesome, suggested a couple of tweaks that worked out even better. Extremely responsive shop, excellent work and a no nonsense attitude. I'm surprised at some of the negative reviews here, I absolutely had a A+ experience with these guys. read more

I'm having a wee problem with a persistently uncooperative shower door so I gives Lon a little ringee-dingee. I describe my difficulties and he informs me that he charges $85 for a standard service call but would be loath to do so under the circumstances given that the problem I'm describing could be successfully addressed by any halfwit. "You're not a halfwit by any chance are you?" he inquires. "Thank you for asking," I reply, "Actually I am, but in the unlikely event that I understand you correctly, I should be able to rectify the situation on my own, regardless?" "You're getting the nub of my gist, baby," he says. (The last time someone said that to me I was...well, never mind.) "Just do this, this and that." Well, I do and I'll be damned if the damned thing doesn't work now. Good enough, anyway. I don't know if Lon doesn't like money or is just lazy. Works for me either way. read more

My mother in law's mirror in her bathroom cracked. I took it out, measure it and threw it out. Then immediately thought, "Damn I wonder how much this is gonna cost." I began to call around to see how much glass shops were charging to make replacement mirrors and after several ridiculous and not so ridiculous quotes for a small mirror I got a hold of Lon's Glass. They said that they could have it done in a few hours and their price was the lowest I found. They asked me to double check my measurements and after doing so I reassured them that the mirror was indeed the odd size I had first recorded. This leads me to believe that it may have been difficult and more expensive to acquire elsewhere. The gentleman I spoke to let me know when to pick up the mirror and the price and left me with a sense of ease. When the time came I drove over to Lon's glass which is on east 14th street, but sits slightly hidden in the back of a few other small buildings. I walked down the drive way and waited inside for one of the few gentlemen there to finish loading a large and obviously custom window onto a truck. Once they finished a man came inside and pulled out the mirror. I paid the nominal charge and drove home and installed the mirror. It was simple, cheap and efficient. Four hours later I called the office and his staff said he was in the field. She said she's call his cell. No show. No call. I waited a full business day for him to call, apologize, and reschedule. I contacted Lon's glass via phone to schedule an estimate for a large $20k project I was doing for my store (located in San Leandro) to be completed in 2 weeks. Long story short, I called and texted the guy for 7 straight days... each day he told me he would be able to come and meet up with me so we can go over measurements and finalize the project. It was strange.. I literally drove to the store and stayed there for 8-10 hours everyday to meet up... he would text me and say he will be on his way... and it got to the point I was texting him every hour asking if he was still going to make it. I DID THIS EVERYDAY THIS WEEK. He came out for the initial estimate..but left without taking measurements or leaving an estimate..days later, He kept telling me he could do it, and could get the parts in a day, and complete the project quickly.. but it has been over a week and I haven't even gotten him to show up... even though he kept telling me he would even down to the last minute of each day. He apologized today and said he had been understaffed/busy at the office... but I think he could have just been honest with me if he couldn't do the project and I would have just found another vendor and planned on taking the extra time to complete the project. But now I have wasted over a week on dealing with this business. I am disappointed with the service and will spend my money elsewhere. read more

I contacted Lon's glass via 4-5 phone calls and several emails to schedule an estimate for a window repair. Over 7 days transpired and I spoke with Lonnie who made promises to schedule me on a specific day and did not call back. Unfortunately, poor communication and follow-up. I decided to take my business to another glass company and they responded immediately with several callbacks to confirm date/time and when driver was arriving. I had to have an L shape temp glass for a desk top I made. When I called in the measurments I explained to the nice lady on the phone what it was for. I even drove over to give them a drawing of the dimentions needed. After I a week and half I called to see if it was ready. She says "oh ya! it's been here a few days". Well thanks for the call I say to myself.. I pick it up, and it turns out that it does not fit.. It's about and 1/8" to large. I talk to Lonnie himself and he tells me that with Temp glass you have to leave a margin of errer of at least and 1/8". I tell him that would have been nice to know before I placed the order!! That way I would have built this desk differently. Well In order to save the piece I already bought he says he could grind down some of the edges to maybe make it fit.. OK. Lets try that.. After what seemed like a month! I call again and apperantly It's been sitting there for awhile.. Again! thanks for the heads up call!! I go to pick the piece up and it looks horrible! Not square at all!! I say I can't deliver this thing this way. He says to me that if I want a piece of Temp glass at an exact size I need to give him a template for and extra $45. He would cover the cost of the glass. Fine. I make the template pay for it and he orders it.. Again, three weeks goes by. I call to see what's up and sure enough it's been sitting in his shop for a week.. Again, thanks for the heads up! I take it back and again! It does not fit! I tried calling several time during the next few weeks but remarkably Lonnie is nowhere to be seen. Finally I drive down with the glass shop and he's sitting at his desk. I explain to him it the same problem. It's to large!! So lets try it again.. Lets grind it down till it fits. I say but this time lets keep it clean, ya. Straight please.. Needles to say it comes back worse than the first piece of glass!! Basically I threw up my hands and gave up. I had to go with the first piece that looks horrible but not as bad as the second. I have a piece of glass at my shop now that I have no use for and a disgruntled client and nearly $200 in the hole to show for it. These guys need to wake up!! This review is based on customer service. I called to have someone to come measure my front window I needed fixed asap. Called at opening and no one came til 4:40pm. Was told I would be called to give quote...... Did not get call until the following week! Now take in mind the window is next to my door I missed work for 2 days because of it (single mom with a small child) . The day they came to measure and I did not get a call back I went and got a piece of glass cut and installed it myself...... I will never bother trying to use their services very disappointed. read more

Had and old shower door with cracked glass. Took it in to have a new piece of glass installed in the frame. In the end... BAD WORKMANSHIP. For $217, just for a piece of glass put in a frame... Cmmon. And the interior gasket was old and very much deteriorating Leaving gaps (which would collect shower water and eventually mold.) Nope... No new gasket or sealant! Looks like caca. Then the frame was loose. When I pointed that out to Lon at pickup, he said the frame was old and that they already broke one inner corner mount piece and that is why he couldn't tighten it. Got it home and it was sagging... so that when properly mounted, the edge now scraped the tile. So and I began to fix it myself, I discovered that they had not replaced any inner corner piece, but the HAD cross-threaded the screw they re-installed. And the door was not put back together correctly. Because they did not line up the corners correctly and tighten the screws properly the frame droops and scrapes the shower threshold. OUCH... hurts the ears! Still scrapes. Finally, they made no effort to clean the frame. Sure, It's is not part of the service they do, but when I could take it to another glass shop, I think they would go above and beyond to do something like just kinda-clean it a bit. Nope,... Not part of the service.] All for the great price of $217! Wow... think I'll find someone else next time. Sad... I've used them before to buy tempered glass from... Did a nice job way-back when... But I guess those days are gone. read more

We needed a new shower door and I found Lon's Glass on google maps. I called and spoke directly to Lon. He came up to the house about 15 minutes later to take measurements and discuss options. He called back a couple of hours later with prices and had the order for the new glass in the system that day. Five days later when the glass arrived, his crew came out and did the installation. They were both super nice guys, very professional and the install is beautiful! I LOVE the new taller shower enclosure and the clean, modern look it brings to my tiny bathroom. Thank you Lon!
