I had a few beers at the connected place to the west of the globe- under the same management and more of a craft beer bar. Ambiance, nice but loud. Bar tender was attentive. Beer list decent but slightly underwhelming. What bothered me is that though it was happy hour, the beers I had were not happy hour priced. The sign outsign didnt refer to a short list or much else and I asked the bar tender as he poured when happy hour was to only to find out later my beers werent marked down. A shame. I went here for a birthday party the other night. I was pleasantly surprised... the bar seemed packed but there are so many little rooms and sections that people can spread out. Good music, and the bartenders are really on their game. However, its really just a basic sports bar turned into pub with music (is there even a DJ?). Drinks, vodka sprites, were $10 each. Went in to watch the World Cup game during lunch and there was a huge screen to watch the game which was great. The place got packed really quickly. My friend came later and she was going to order lunch but the waitress told her the kitchen is too busy so they can't serve anymore. I never had a place tell us that the kitchen is not capable of serving especially when they have a full lunch menu. It was surprising and disappointing because they weren't apologetic at all. Swung by last night with some friends. And was extremely rudely treated by some lady employee (she couldve been the manager) who was not just offensive but also discourteous and harsh with us because she had assumed we snuck in although there were two bouncers outside who checked our IDs. Because i am asian she commented that i was using my sisters id which i found to be rather disrespectful and then after she realized we were past the age of 21 she walked away and didnt even aplogize. We wouldve left had we not already ordered drinks. Place itself is mad chill but im not a fan of the employees. Gain some customer service skills and maybe your bar would be more poppin at 1am. read more

Went to The Globe on a tuesday night. A nice 10 minute walk from the 23rd st path. There was a nice, small crowd there. I had to get a Guiness and affirm everyone's statement about a great pour. It was perfect, great head just over the top of the glass. They have a few tvs in back but they were not one which was a nice change. Bartender said if I wanted to watch something, they could turn them on. The bar was dark but not too dark. There is also a bar in the back by the tvs. Had a good mix of people from a few guys in suits to me and my date in jeans. They had a great irish coffee which was a nice change from the crap that other places call an irish coffee. This is on my favorite list so if you see me in Gramercy, I am on my way here. read more

The slow pour of a good Guinness is easy to screw up, not in the Globe,a newly renevated 1880's Gramercy bar with heaps of charm, excellent barman and a great scene. The pints are excellent, and the welcome, friendly. Highly recommended for that quiet pint on a Sunday, or that party with the girls on a Friday/Saturday night. The Globe has it all. read more

The Globe is 2 bars in one. The first is right as you come in a long wood bar, often staffed by friendly and attractive bartenders who offer heavy pours and good banter. There place is deceptively large in fact very large to the back there is a second bar only slightly smaller than the first. You find it crowded in the front you simple relocate to the other bar in the back. This space has plenty of room and a lounge feel to it. The food is above average considering I can say that about the hot dogs they serve, which is a good sign. This place is not cheap but it does not skimp on the booze either quieter during the day time hours as this night falls the scene shifts and this lounge take on more of club feel and young women in uncomfortable shoes and flattering tops abound and I know it's my time to move on. The Globe is far better than decent. One tall, handsome (I might add) bartender in particular, was very attentive to his customers. My friends and I are huge fans of the show the Walking Dead and we suggested they maybe do a screening on Sundays. He agreed at the idea! This is probably the worst place you can go if you are looking for fun on the weekend. The food comes out lukewarm at best but usually cold. Sample size of 5 visits (crazy right!?). If I had an arch nemesis (which I do not) I would never wish it upon them to find themselves at this establishment. The drink selection is equivalent to your average rural bar, the service is not only slow but also unfriendly, and the music will remind you of a middle school dance. God have mercy on your soul if you cross the threshold into the Globe. The world is not your oyster here. read more

During the week, it's mostly filled with people having the burger/beer special which is a pretty good deal. During the weekend, it's filled with every NYU kid from the nearby dorms and they put the tables away to make room for dancing. I really enjoyed the vibe of the place, it's really spacious with multiple bars and a good amount of dancing room. However, my only complaint would be the limited scope of music they are "allowed" to play - mostly throwbacks and top 50. When I asked the DJ to play Waka Flocka Flame, he told me that they don't play music that's "too hard." So if you want to go hard and twerk, this is not the place to go to. However, if you are feeling medium-soft music to sing along to, highly recommend this bar. read more

I celebrated my birthday here last weekend and I had a blast. I called to reserve some space and the guy was really cool and nice. Got a spot, no cover, no dress code, and it was a chill spot. Even if it's not for birthdays, it's a good spot to hang out. Then at around 10-11pm (on Saturday at least), the back area becomes a little dance floor, with the DJ mixing up some tunes. Since last review we have been lunchtime regulars. $12.00 burger and beer. Burger is excellent. Bacon, cheese, chipotle sauce, and it's juicy. Fries good too. Liam is the daytime bartender. Super nice guy, who seriously takes care of his customers. He really finds time to talk with everyone and you can have a great conversation with him. We have had similar experiences with 2 other bartenders working here. We always leave here saying we had a great time. We went on one other occasion later on a Sunday night, completely relaxed atmosphere with the entire bar having conversation together with the bartender. It's really just that kind of place to sit have a few beers, listen to great music, grab a burger, and catch up with old friends and chat. read more

Boycott this bar for their devoted attention only to the bottom line, and for ignoring the needs of people. I stopped in on July 4 about 7 PM. I was on my way to watch the fireworks in New York City. I really needed to use the restroom before standing for another two hours waiting for the fireworks to begin. There were no other customers at the bar, and only about six people scattered among the tables. Basically, the place was empty, almost desolate. I politely asked if I could use the restroom, and was politely told the restrooms are for customers only. I was then informed that if they let me use the restrooms without buying anything, they didn't want a hundred other people coming in later that night to use the restroom without buying anything. I very politely told them that I wouldn't say anything to the hundred other people, if they wouldn't. They did not find this funny, and insisted that I must buy something before using the facilities. They said their manager - who wasn't there at the time - insisted this policy be followed. I asked what the cheapest beer was, and was given a list of about 10 beers. I said just give me the cheapest one, and the bartender said "They are all the same price - $6.00." I paid, went into the restroom, and left, having paid six dollars for a Bud Light. Prior to leaving, I told them, again very politely, that I would be telling people to not patronize this place. They did not seem to care one way or the other. I was born in New York City, and have lived in or around New York City my entire life. There have been numerous times when I have gone into a restaurant, diner, bar or any type of service establishment and politely asked if I could use the restroom, even though all of them had signs indicating that restrooms were for "customers only." I had never before been refused. It is just the New York way, to be helpful, if someone is polite and in need of something. The Globe bar was the exception, and they will never receive my patronage; I will actively tell anyone who asks that they should not received their patronage either. There are thousands of other bars in New York, and many of them are within a block or two of the Globe bar. Go to those other bars instead! read more

Came here for lunch on a Friday. Place was super quiet, only us and another table. It's a large space, there's a bar in front and one in the back. We all got the beer and burger special which was $12 for a burger and draught beer. Only 3 beers included in the deal which are budlight, yuingling and the Globe beer they have on tap. The Globe is ramshackle from the outside but very tasteful and elegant inside, with a surprisingly large space. Incidentally there is also a GIANT full length mirror in the back that wow-ed me. The sofas are conducive to mingling and are arranged in a cluster in the back. They are known for their Irish coffee and Guinness beers and just oozes that classic style, but the antique feel does not overwhelm the place. It remains stylish and modern. The bonus for us was that we were able to bring our kids with us while we attended a pre-party (on my way out of town). I have been to The Globe twice, once late at night and once post work for a few drinks. I am very torn when it comes to this place. The one time I came here late night, I did not enjoy it at all. Not my type of crowd to say the least. The second time I came I enjoyed myself more. Just chillin havin a drink and the place was pretty cool and I ended up having a good time. I just recently held a birthday party for about 50 people and must say I was initially nervous about the whole thing. JP, the bar owner is a very relaxed kind of guy, me not as much. However he made the whole night memorable as well as run smoothly. His staff were all extremely helpful in pushing out the food and cake. I was worried when 10 pm rolled around as the floor became a dance floor, but the patrons there were all happy and no one caught any attitude. A perfect neighborhood bar. With mostly Irish pubs or laid-back bars in the Gramercy area, it's nice to have a place that kicks it up a bit at night with some dancing. Although it looks like it's in shambles and possibly even closed-down from the outside, the Globe is very much alive inside. Drinks are standard but there are two bars in there which helps with service. Plenty of space to dance and tables to the side to sit and talk or store your belongings. DO NOT GO TO THIS BAR! My friends and I went to this bar last night and first of all it was dead. We only went because it was near the place we had dinner and we had time to kill. Normally I order a vodka soda, but the waitress said the cocktails are good so I took her advice and ordered a GLOBE BRAMBLE (DO NOT ORDER). When the drink came - I took one sip and tried not to throw up. It truly was the worst drink I had ever had and I passed it around to my friends and the verdict was it tasted like "toxic waste". So, I politely told the waitress it was not good at all and she took the drink and went and got the manager. The manager comes over to our group and abrasively begins to go off on me and tells me that I will be paying for the drink. She said their top bartender made it and when we tried to explain the situation she said "I don't want to hear it" and walked away. WOW! Talk about awful service and a place that is obviously desperate for money. We were in disbelief and quickly left. There are so many places in NYC, so please, take my advise and go anywhere else but the Globe. read more

Review for events only. The owners, brothers JP & Eamon, are really great guys. I have hosted a few happy hours hear, in the back area, and planning has been super easy. They offer really great drink specials, and can accommodate 20-100 people for whatever you are looking to host. They have a back bar that can be used privately. A group I volunteer with also started hosting after program drinks here weekly after enjoying a get-together here, so it is an all around people pleaser. I recommend staking a place in the middle, behind the divider, on the couches, by the fireplace, as it's the nicest area. The booths near back work well for catching up without the crowds. Also, I find cops frequent this place as it is close to the 20th Street station. Was a tad unnerving walking out one night to a group of SWAT guys with their guns and bullet proof vests... Place works for everyone. A staple go-to in my book. read more
