I heard this place was popular. I'm visiting and wanted to give it a shot. Food was good however service was terrible. Sat at the bar and bartender wasn't courteous at all. I wasn't greeted and was asked by someone else if I wanted a drink. I didn't even get a napkin when I was eating!? As a joke I asked what happened to mid west hospitality and got a " it never existed" response.. still tipped of course.. and he did not thank me for coming or visiting, very disappointed in service. read more

This was one of the absolute worst experiences I've ever had at any bar. I have never been spoken to by a bartender or manager the way "JP" John Paul (the GM) spoke to me today. I'm visiting my family in Indiana from Chicago for a funeral. My siblings, sister in law and friend were out to get a drink. I came by later and everyone was already served. After sitting 15+ minutes with the server not coming up to our table I decided to go to the bar and order my drink. My ID has a crease in it because I sat on it about two months ago. I've been accepted to every single bar I've been to, both in Illinois and now Indiana, I have FLOWN with this ID (less than two weeks ago being served throughout Tennessee on a work trip) and drive with this ID. It is not expired and I'm 27. All of my information is still VERY clearly legible and can prove who I am. When I asked to speak with the manager, JP, he said, "I can't accept it" and walked away. I then asked him to come back and showed him my credit card and debit card and also pulled up an Instagram post from 2019 of my 21st birthday. I also said "I can show you my work badge, what else can I do? Im with my family" he then said "are you not f***ing listening to me" and then proceeded to cuss me out. I was just trying to prove that I'm over 21, am with my family and was willing to literally show anything they needed to verify me. I'd also like to add this would've been my first drink of the night and I was completely sober. His behavior is unacceptable. The bartender at our table shared that the GM is probably worried because they are on their last liquor license and now looking at the 3.7 rating this bar has, it makes sense. For a manager / man to yell at a customer (specifically to a woman) for simply trying to show that they aren't underage at a bar is beyond ridiculous and his behavior is inexcusable. Having worked in the service industry, and also a bartender in Illinois (I tried showing him my payroll from the bar) I would've been fired for treating a customer that way. 0/10 for service and treatment. This place was so bad I redownloaded yelp, made a new password, logged on to my college email that I haven't used in three years which made me recreate a password, identify three security questions, call my mom for her maiden name, type of bad. What in the freaking dried out cheese beef was that patty melt? This bar is extremely unprofessional. Not only have they had many lawsuits with the town of Carmel, but their staff is also uneducated and accuse customers of legal age of having 'fake' IDs. I'm a 24-year-old Illinois resident who visited this bar for a 25th birthday party. I was initially approved by the bouncer to enter, but while standing at the bar, a member of my party closed their tab, and I decided to open one. When the bartender asked for my ID, I handed it to him. He bent my driver's license so hard that he essentially destroyed it, rendering it unusable. Now, I have to pay to replace it. After witnessing him aggressively bend my license, the bartender returned and claimed my ID was fake, telling me I had to leave immediately. I responded, 'This is my real driver's license. I don't understand.' Despite this, he repeatedly insisted it was fake and said I needed to leave. I asked him to scan it, but he 'allegedly' handed it to a staff member, who claimed to be a police officer but was not in uniform. This person also called me a liar and said my ID was fake. If you are of legal age and live in the Midwest, do not come to this bar. The staff is clearly too incompetent to identify a neighboring state's ID properly and will destroy your property! read more

This spot is probably just fine if you are looking for a spot to enjoy some beer and the outdoor atmosphere in downtown Carmel. I saw the unkind review but it did not deter us. Our party sat at one of the large, very well separated picnic tables in the "party yard". We were served pretty quickly, very friendly. There were a lot of brews on the menu that weren't available, so the craft brews were limited. Found a few that sounded good. One of them wasn't good. We mentioned to our server and he did not either offer to replace it nor did he offer to comp it. Basically if you don't like the beer, you are welcome to buy another one. Appetizers were very good, I had the fries. Hush puppies - there were 4 as I recall. Guac and chips pretty generous. Total of beer and apps seemed to be pretty high $$ compared to other places. I've been here a few times a really wanted to like it. Great location. Delicious goat cheese appetizer. The service has been very hit or miss. It's pretty slow most of the time. The glass my first serving of wine came in smelled dirty when I drank from it. My 2nd serving came in a small disposable plastic cup. I expected a higher level of service and cleanliness based on the prices and the area. I've walked my dogs around here multiple times and there's often trash and broken glass on the sidewalk in front of the bar. It kind of reminds me of a frat house. read more

I was so excited for this spot to open. The location is incredible and the space offers a lot. Unfortunately, my positive sentiments end there. I have been to The Goat twice now and it is unlikely I will return. As a big fan of Brockway Public House, I had high hopes for this place since it is under the same ownership. I would rather drive 10 minutes to Brockway than walk across the street to this place. Everything is so expensive and not worth the money for the quality or portion size. I was served a moscow mule that tasted as if it was 90% water. Staff has never been outstandingly good or bad, but no one is wearing a mask! I walk by almost every day and this place is constantly stuffed with people. I am so surprised that they have not incurred any sort of penalty for their blatant disregard for public safety. I was excited to try out this new Tavern and was incredibly disappointed in the quality of the food and the service was horrible. I sat for 20 minutes before I was waited on. The food was expensive and I don't particularly care for my wine being served in a paper cup. They use plastic utensils and provided only the napkin that came with the silverware. Perfect patio for people watching on the monon. We came on a busy Friday night so had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. It was seat yourself so somewhat chaotic with different party sizes trying to find a table. It would have been much more efficient with a host. Once we snagged a table we had to wait for it to be cleaned and then longer for a waitress. They were definitely under staffed and their workers seemed stressed. At one point the busser started taking drink orders. Most Danny boy beers and liquor on the menu for drinks and a wide variety of things for food. From lobster to pretzel bites they have quite a few options. We chose the Nachos with chicken which were good but mostly just chips and cheese. Would have liked some other toppings. We also split a blue cheese burger. It was a little more done than I prefer but the side macaroni salad was really good! I had a great experience. I was greeted when I walked in and advised it is open seating. Our server greeted us shortly and went over the menu and drink list with us. The food came out fairly quickly and was very tasty. I do think that the beer/alcohol prices are a bit high for what they are. My beer came in a plastic cup, so it wasn't very cold. Pretty excited to write this review because I always come to this bar for their great drinks and I usually see a lot of good looking food around me! I got the nachos with beef and guacamole on this occasion! I sat at the bar with a couple friends our bartender was super attentive and made sure we were all taken care of the whole time! Thanks Ezekiel! There were a lot of chips compared to the amount of toppings so I wasn't able to finish it all and I can put down a lot of food at once so that surprised me! It's a beautiful spot. Open air concept. If you want to go here and feel like there're not a pandemic then this is your place. There are no F's given or taken. No masks. Not even by the staff. Must agree with Laura C in all aspects of her review. It's true...no pandemic here, folks. What?! Beer selection is excellent, thus the 2nd star. However, having CK Mondavi as your house (and only) wines is lame if you're supposed to be the GOAT. Have Robert Mondavi, or Cline, or something besides the bottom shelf wines at Kroger. If you haven't ever had CK Mondavi, don't. You'll never drink wine again. Service was great opening week, then has fallen off since that time. With some very small tweaks, this could be the brightest star in Midtown. Right now, it seems like a clubhouse that staff have no interest in being a part of, and customers are an annoyance. read more

Outdoor seating is plentiful, and inside can be partially open air when the doors are all opened. Location is fantastic, especially if you're on foot. After ordering, I was informed my first beer choice wasn't available, so I chose another. Also not available. Third choice, same. The server made excuses about them just opening a couple of weeks ago, but I would've hoped they had worked out things like that by the start of a holiday weekend. I settled for a basic IPA that wasn't awesome, so I didn't order another. The nachos we ordered were just meh. Nothing special at all. Visited the goat again last night for drinks and snack. The drinks were all good, but the food was subpar! We ordered a Buffalo chicken sandwich, anticipating a nice juicy breaded hot chic sandwich. And what we got was a precooked dry chicken breast on a super plain bun. No lettuce, tomato, or onion and a drizzle of Buffalo sauce, crumbled blue cheese and cold bacon! Need I say more!
