Update - after leaving this review, the business sent me a message asking for my phone number - I gave it to them and they never called. It's comical how horrible this place is. They need to take a 101 class in customer service. This place had decent reviews and I needed a beginner set of clubs, so I visited. It was not busy at all - There were at least 3 salesman on the floor and not 1 of them greeted me or asked if needed any assistance. After about twenty mins of browsing the used clubs I ended up calling some friends to get their advice on what set I should purchase. I'm a wife who doesn't know anything about golf. My husband loves to play and he told me about this place so I can buy him a golf bag he wants for his birthday. I went today; I have no other way to describe my experience /customer service other than "F***ing HORRIBLE". I went with my 9 year old son and even he told me, "Mom, we got no help". All of the other 1 star reviews are totally accurate. It is a pretty dumpy layout and displays. None of the workers seem to take much pride in customer service or quality retail environment. I try to support local business which is getting very hard when I run into poor customer service like I did at this place. Went in 2 consecutive days and found a used iron set I had been looking for. The first day I asked for the best price they could let it go for and I got very positive response and service. I never buy on impulse though and waited till the next day to go back and buy. The second trip was not so good. First there was no offer to assist while I walked around the shop and after 30 minutes when I Went to purchase the iron set the person of authority insisted the previous sales clerk had no right to offer the price he did and insisted I pay $80 more. I said I came to buy at the price quoted yesterday and he refused to honor the offer. He also got adamant and rude that I even expected him to keep the stores word from the previous day. I walked out and this individual has lost golfmart customer for life, over $80 on a used set that will likely sit there for years by the looks of it. They have dozens of used iron sets and the fact this one is so important he refuses a fair offer is beyond common sense. I had also picked out 2 new hybrids and new grips for all, so he lost a very good size and profitable sale. Goodbye golfmart and hello ebay and amazon. read more

I live in Escondido and usually go to the Escondido Golf Mart. I had a Tee time at Torry Pines and needed to stop and get a few clubs repaired and pick up some balls so I stopped into the Encinitas store. Not only did they fix my problem right away, they had the exact balls and tees I play and they had a great selection of new and used clubs. The staff was very knowledgeable and attentive. They understand what a good golfer needs and they even let me hit balls while I waited for my clubs. I would highly recommend this golf store to anyone who needs anything for golf. read more

Walked in and explained where I was at with my golf game. Just a dude with an itch to get better and take a step up from the $20 set I got off craigslist. Gary understood my situation and guided me right to a set of used Taylormade irons that was moderately priced and right in the range I was looking for. He took me over to the virtual driving range to let me take the clubs for a few practice swings. Not only did he provide me the opportunity to try out the clubs, but he also took the time to give me a few quick tips about my swing which immediately improved my next three strokes after making his suggested adjustments. I must say, I was really impressed with my experience. Also, I ended up pricing out the clubs online after I purchased, and found that he gave me a more than fair price. If you're in the market for some clubs, used or new, do yourself the favor of stopping in here and checking out what they have to offer. The only store where you can hit used clubs with a luanch monitor that is up coastal north county San Diego. The staff there are very friendly and not pushy. They have your best interests in mind and want to find the right clubs for you. Hitting and trying new demos before they come out allows you to buy the best equipment possible for your game. I have just picked up golf again and the staff at the Golf Mart knows there stuff. What is more comforting to know is when I had an issue on a return (some bank transaction stuff??) they took the time to research the issue and explain it to me. Went in to look for new driver. Spoke to Vic who proceeded to hook me up to the swing machine. 45 minutes later, he had given me all kinds of tips to enhance my swing. Bought new M2 driver & hitting 10 - 15 yds. longer thanks to his great patience in changing my swing. Works on other woods as well. Great place for price & Customer Service. read more

I had been playing a hand me down set of irons since 2005. Went away from golf for a couple years but now I'm back in it a lot more playing. Finally pulled the trigger and went in to try out some different irons to fit my swing. James helped me out right away fitting me into the set of Srixons I eventually came to buy. He was very friendly, personable and understood what I was looking for after our talking back and forth about my game and what I wanted out of a new set. He was extremely patient and knowledgeable. Went in to try some of the new drivers. Gary helped me getting the right set up and let me try various brands. Gary is very friendly and knowledgeable and even gave some swing tips. The new drivers ended up no out performing my own driver enough to make a switch worth it at this time. Gray never tried to sell me something that he didn't think was worth it. Not only did I get the driver I was looking for, Gary provided some great tips on things I have been struggling with in my swing. I bought golf shoes 3 weeks ago. Tried them in the store, maybe a little big. Played a couple of rounds and they seemed like one size too small. Went online to see if they came in a smaller size and they did. Called Golf Mart to see if they could order the smaller size and if their 90 day guarantee applied to shoes also. New shoes arrived within one day, picked them up and NO CHARGE!!! Have never been able to return shoes of any kind. Definitely deserve this 5 star review. The staff was extremely helpful, and offered insights into how to get the kids started in the game. They didn't up-sell us or try to force us into a full set. As we were checking out, the gentleman ringing us up gave my kids some tees and a ball and they were so excited. Got a raise and promotion at work so I thought I'd treat myself to a Scotty Cameron putter. I went to the gallery off the 101 and it was incredible. Lots of one-off putters, but I was looking for a more standard Fastback Select butter. I found it at the Golf Mart and for as competitive a price as you'll find (online and Dicks included). Was reading reviews and feel the same way. I walk in and no one greets me. I feel intimidated. I am not the best golfer, but I like the sport! And, I spend money on it! I would like to buy new clubs but I don't feel like going to my neighborhood golf store to get them. I went in the other day and had in my mind to buy shoes. I have recently stopped in to get some new grips put on my wedges and had to come back have them redone as they were so off the mark. I just stopped in to see if they could regrip the set and pick them up b4 they closed- without any hesitation the guy says "nope, can't do it"! He didn't even see how many clubs needed to be done b4 mine, that is 9 hours to have them completed- no explanation or i am sorry we got busy- nothing! Customer service is terrible! read more

Walked in on Sunday needing to get a new putter grip put on. I figured I would drop it off and pick up an hour later or next day. I also figured it would cost about $10. I had my putter and grip asked if they could replace my grip and how much - it cost $2.99!!. 5 minutes later they were done and I walked out with my new grip. I highly recommend The Golf Mart. I have been in this store many times since the mid 1990s. I went there to replace my ancient clubs as retirement has given me time to renew the struggle with golf. Gary H evaluated my swing and had me hit with a few clubs a few weeks ago. He recognized I needed more practice to help my swing be more consistent to properly notice which irons would better suit me. I came back today and brought my old Ping Eye2 7 iron and compared them to 4 different manufacturers. He review the results of the "new technology" that breaks down aspects of how the ball is hit. Gary had no intent to have me to by brand x, y or z. He explained the differences of how I hit (multiple times) each brand. We talked about the alternatives and I chose one with customization of size of shaft, composite of shaft and degree of club head. No extra charge was added to the cost of the club. I couldn't have gotten this service over the internet and there was a small price break to boot. I was very satisfied with Gary's service and comments. He is a great salesperson.
