Comfy pink couch is a VIBE. I ordered the oatmeal cookie latte, blueberry scone, chicken salad sandwich, and Thai curry soup. The latte & soup was 5 stars. I would order the Thai soup again and again. If you get the chicken salad sandwich. You HAVE TO order an extra scoop. The amount of chicken salad I initially got was paper thin. A properly roasted Guatemalan coffee is rarely a 'dark roast' yet here it is. I didn't finish the cup. The cortado revealed a sour and flat pull which follows having seen the portafilters of the beautiful LaMarzocco machine lying on the drain pan (cold). The Good Cup is an excellent business that really works to foster community -- often hosting a variety of events like open mic nights and local artists' crafts. The place is incredibly cute! This is a gem of a local coffee shop. It is very unpretentious but the staff and food is top notch. I have been here several times and it's always a great experience. I never get to this part of Franklin. Usually, when I'm headed down to rich folk land, I am going 65S or taking 8th/Franklin Ave. Franklin Road? Vas is? Anything south of Harding on Hillsboro (leaving Green Hills) is usually a 'not this time' for me. But I needed to go south and was in Green Hills and I was not about to fight Hillsboro traffic to get to 65 so into the matrix I went. I liked it. This drive was so much more relaxed than my usual roads into Franklin. As I passed through the no-man's-land-Hills (either Oak or Forest; I can't keep up) and entered into Brentwood/Williamson County, I thought to myself that this is the way to go when parenthood chases me out of Nashville. Proximity, nice big house and a good school system. Noted. Before too long, I'd made it to my coffee destination. It was in a nondescript strip mall atop a small hill. Getting out of my car, I thought (again with the thoughts) that this was a decidedly old-school Yelp haunt (ie more 'look at this cool place I discovered' than 'Instagram'). Walking in, I discovered my thoughts were correct. On a random Thursday afternoon, the dining room was packed with regulars (?) and the place was bustling. There was no danger of someone 'cool' walking in and making this a scene. Rather this was just a well-worn business that had earned customers through good product and following through on promises. Old school. I parked at the high top table, waited for my friend to arrive and studied the menu. Before too long, she showed up and it was show time. Not wanting to be a pain, I was just going to get cider and a side but as my friend ordered her food, the gentleman behind the counter asked if she wanted her sandwich made on gluten-free bread. What's that, now? We have a ball game. I called an audible and changed my order on the fly: a chicken salad sandwich on gluten-free bread, chips and a seasonal beverage, please. As we typed on our laptops, the counter fellows brought the food out. My chicken salad was just the way I like: heavy on the chicken, just enough mayonnaise to bind everything together and crunchy vegetables for texture and taste. No glop. No additional mayo slathered on the bread. Just.right. My good fortune extended to my beverage. My honey nut maple latte was made with almond milk and was a warm hug of a fall drink. Truthfully, I had a hard time deciding on which fall beverage to try. From pumpkin to apple, they had all the hits. I wouldn't have found this place without a need to drive south and the Yelp app. This is the exact reason a site/app like Yelp exists: to connect people to/with great local businesses they, otherwise, would never have heard of. The Good Cup feels like a neighborhood coffee shop and that's what it's been for many years. I am not a "regular" (as in going every week or multiple times a week, which many many of my neighbors are including my husband!) but I do visit frequently. I always find it warm, relaxing, welcoming and a good place to visit or spend a bit of quiet time too. This visit I had the Chai Latte which was very good. It's a small shop and they take time to prepare the drinks. Don't be in hurry and relax as you wait. Isn't that why we go to coffee shops? (If you're in a huge hurry, find a place with a drive thru and get a go cup) You can get go cups here, but it feels like a place you linger. I paired it with an Espresso muffin. YES. Reading my book and drinking a cup of coffee at the Good Cup was EXACTLY what I needed today! I grabbed a cappuccino (very good) and sat in the most comfortable chair in the world. I was only planning on stopping there for a few minutes, but the chair was so comfortable and the coffee and book so good that I think I was there for an hour. With a name like The Good Cup, expectations are high for a good cup of coffee. After my first visit, I can say that the name not only goes for the drinks, but also the overall atmosphere. I usually find myself going to coffee shops in Nashville. We all know the trend around town. Yes, I'll say it, it's hipster pretty. Now don't get me wrong, I love hipster pretty, because, well it's pretty. However, rolling up to The Good Cup gave me some major nostalgia to the coffee shops I frequented in my home state of Wisconsin. The Good Cup is off of a busy road and is in a strip of stores. Right when walking up I could tell this place was going to be super cute. The outside is kind of rustic with an old time feel. The inside is old school coffee shop comfortable. Hopefully that makes sense. No fancy bells and whistles. Eclectic decor. Comfortable chairs are a plenty throughout the shop so you can plop down and spend a good amount of time working here. The music here is spot on. Relaxing music for a relaxing space. It was very Bon Iver heavy which I'm definitely ok with (he's a fellow Wisconsite). The walls were covered in art, some of which was for sale. I believe the artists were all local so it's nice to see a coffee shop supporting the community. Now, I will say I can't comment too much on the drink. I got really excited when I saw their fall menu for drink specials. I saw they had a pumpkin spice latte and for some reason in my head I thought this was like a chai latte but with pumpkin flavor. I blame Starbucks for this. They call it a pumpkin spice latte. So I ordered the latte and when I took the first sip, I realized my mistake. I don't like coffee. This was of course a normal latte with coffee. 100% my fault. I'm a dumby. I think if I liked coffee it would have been very delicious haha. I still drank it though, and wow, I was wired. I can see why people drink coffee. I usually drink tea but this coffee hit me hard. Maybe I need to force myself to switch over. I was also hungry so I ordered half a sandwich. I ordered a pesto turkey deli sandwich with chips. I believe the sandwich had turkey, pesto, spinach, and cheese. It was good. Nothing spectacular but still tasty and filling. I should mention that the baristas were also very friendly. Service with a smile goes a long way! Overall, The Good Cup was a warm and comfortable place to get some work done.
