People come every morning more to say hi to their friends than they do for their coffee and sausage biscuit...well, it's a close call. It's equal parts hallmark movie and an episode of Friends. I visited the "Good Cup" Wednesday May 9th 2018, 9:15 am. If you like slow service, bad coffee and terrible food this is going to be your favorite place. The "frittata" I got was sitting on a plate right next to the register. I though it was the display but then the cashier, without gloves reach out and dropped it in a to go bag. I was not even that mad at that point then she added "Is cold, you might want to use the microwave over there" I mean, forget about costumer service, I am not just telling you this thing you are about to eat is cold, you got to heat it up yourself. Once I ate my "frittata" it was so nasty. I mean cold, old, nasty garbage. I would have rather lick the bottom of my shoe that put this garbage on my mouth. I had two bites and that enough "Good Cup Frittata" for the rest of my life. Coffee was nothing special. I had a double espresso it was alright. But the food was awful. Been here a few times, it's kinda like a last minute breakfast stop when I'm coming down this road. I have never had an issue with the employees, they've always been courteous. The location is kept clean and it is super laid back. I do like that they sell local arts and crafts type things so it feels very close to home. I personally have not seen anything that peaks my interest to purchase yet but I do like to come and look, so maybe one day my wife or I will will get something. I usually order lattes and they have been consistently good. Another item I really like is their breakfast wrap which actually feels light but helps me get through great part of the day without getting too hungry. They don't have a lot of variety as far as food goes but what they have is simple and decent to get your morning started. read more

I was a bit disappointed in this establishment. Contrary to the good reviews they seem to receive, I found their quality less than acceptable. I ordered a medium cappuccino, which turned out to be very small for a medium size cup. I actually couldn't finish it, as it was so weak it simply tasted like warm milk. I also ordered an egg, bacon, and cheese breakfast sandwich that smelled better than it tasted. Not much different than I could make at home. The prices are a little on the high-side of normal, which wouldn't be an issue if the quality was superior, which it was not. read more

This is one of the cutest coffee shops in the area! I've been coming here for over 10 years! I love that I can come here and good a solid cup of coffee in such a warm and cozy place! It's never too busy, and I can always find a good spot to get some work done. The staff here is great and super attentive. It's very laid back, and I've never had any issues there. Not only is it a Nashville small business, but they also do a great job of supporting local artists and musicians. Truly worth only ONE STAR for coffee here. This is my second and final time visiting this establishment. Husband got a chipotle mocha and we asked for an extra shot (which is really two, because they pull doubles) to be split between our two drinks, so there were only 3 total shots in each. I ordered a simple latte at an extra hot 180 degrees and I'm guessing it was a new guy behind the counter, because he had to ask the other barista what 180 degrees meant, and if that was "really hot"? She had to direct him to a thermometer and then on how to use it in the milk. Not looking good, right? A little more than 5 min later my husbands drink comes out, the chipotle was so spicy that he struggled to sip it without coughing, and it was really also seemingly strong on the espresso. Mine came out about 2min later and was so weak in flavor that you very literally couldn't taste the coffee in it, basically like watery milk. So we're guessing that he ended up with 4 shots and I only got one. Both drinks were virtually undrinkable and we chucked them both after we left. Total waste of $10. Next time we'll travel south down to the Fainting Goat, which is absolutely worth the extra 40 min round trip. Consistently good coffee there, highly recommended. read more

There are things a place can fail at, and still be a good place to go to. At a restaurant, if the appetizers are bland and unappealing, but the main dishes are tasty and fresh, the restaurant can still be deemed appealing. If a coffee shop is ugly but the coffee is good, you can still like the place. Unfortunately, this is just not the case at The Good Cup: so much so that the shop name is a flat out lie. The place is attractive and functional; the staff is friendly, and informative (although not very attentive); but when the latte is so bad that I almost poured it out on the ground not once, but several times. I eventually finished the dang thing, but only for the caffeine content. I was shocked at just how bad it really was. When you are reviewing a coffee shop, bad coffee is the single criterion that makes a seemingly nice place terrible. If I was in Bucksnort, Bell Buckle, or Red Boiling Springs (yes, those are all town names in Tennessee), I'd chalk it up to small town types knowing nothing about coffee and ignorantly enjoying bad coffee just because they didn't know any better: but this is Franklin, home of some of the most cosmopolitan people in the state. The coffee is perhaps the worst in the entire region. I hate to write this, but I am still in shock about how much I hated that coffee. I still partly don't believe it, and I will give it another shot, but until I do, I stand by my vitriol: this place has terrible coffee. read more

I am so glad that Franklin has this quaint little coffee shop. I have been missing my East Nashville haunts, and The Good Cup has filled in quite nicely. I will say - I've only been one time, and I just had a latte, so I'll have to write an update after I try the food. The latte was really good, but not the best I've ever had. Let me start by saying I love coffee. After nearly 7 years in Manhattan and 3 in LA, I'm accustomed to finding some good spots with great coffee. My preference is a combination or really good drinks and an atmosphere that makes me want to hang out and create, read, talk, or think. Granted this was my first trip here, but this one definitely fits the bill for my preferences. I always test a new place with something simple, like how good their vanilla latte is and this one was excellent. I wouldn't say it's worth driving out of your way for, but if you're in the area and looking for a nice, cozy coffee shop this will definitely do. read more

Meh. I really wanted to like this locally owned coffee shop. It is super cute and close to my house. I've been a few times but probably won't return on a regular basis for a few reasons: 1) I don't find the staff particularly friendly of helpful. Every time I've been in they seem like I am bothering them when I order something. I just don't get a warm and friendly vibe you'd expect in this town from a locally owned shop. 2) I don't find their product to be particularly good. I usually order chai tea with soy milk and it's just not very good. Halfway through the drink I find gross clumpy chai at the bottom. It's just not appetizing and I can get a better chai elsewhere. 3) I think that their drinks are way overpriced for what you are getting. Again, you can get something far better for way less money. I feel bad because I really want to like this place but after a few visits they just don't really give me any reason to come back. read more

Bottom line is this for me: great regular brewed coffee, just 'okay' specialty espresso drinks. I love the atmosphere though, but I kind of am in love with the whole little 'Grassland' area feel that section of Hillsboro Road has. Its old, its suburban, it feels like a really small town right inside the Franklin/Brent'hood line. It actually feels like my hometown, right down to the dodgy looking Foodland grocery store - so maybe it just feels homey to me. The interior is cute like your stylin' wealthy granny decorated a a coffee shop with her old things, yet the owners are a younger couple. Old souls I guess! But it gels well with the neighborhood. There are a few tables outside overlooking Hillsboro and the cute gift shop next door, so a quick bite on a sunny day would be nice! Service is cordial and quick, but I've never been during coffee rush hour so your mileage may vary. They also didn't charge me extra for soy milk which a lot of places do. ::cough, starbucks, cough:: but a 16oz iced coffee runs $2.56 with tax. read more

The Good Cup is a great coffee shop. It is similar to Starbucks, but not such a corporate atmosphere. The staff: The staff are great. When I was there, there were two girls. They both new the menu like the back of their hand. They gave me great suggestions, based on what I said I liked, not on what they liked. I definitely tipped them for a good reason. The coffee: There is not much to say about the coffee besides the fact that it is just a good cup of of coffee. The coffee was prepared very well and was cleanly made. The food: The food was delicious! They have everything made fresh, they made it fast, and it tasted great! The soup was bold in flavor and rich in texture, and the sandwiches were given fluffy bread with delicious meat. The atmosphere: The atmosphere was a great little cozy place to sit and relax. The lighting was dim, the roof is low, it felt like I was in a log cabin! The air can be a little bit chilly, but it was a very cozy place to be able to sit back and relax. They have music softly playing in the background as you work or relax. If it is in the summer time, they have a perfect place outside to sit and relax, and for the winter, they have some cozy couches and chairs to sink down into. Im so sad you guys stopped carrying the gluten free muffins and cookies from Tripple Crown! The Wild Muffin muffins are awful and do not even come close to comparing. They taste like sand. I promise if you did a taste test you would see what I mean! I used to drive from Brentwood to you guys for coffee bc you had GF Tripple Crown goodies! I had forgotten about this place till I wandered back through grassland on a gray morning in December. Great vibe. Plenty of power outlets. Great soups. A few years ago, I really enjoyed this spot. The lattes were pretty good, they offered organic milk, and they were close to my kids' school. I've only been in twice in the past year, but this last time was pretty disappointing. So, I had forgotten my water bottle at home and decided to stop by with my toddler for a tea. An iced tea is pretty quick, so I figured I'd be in and out before he got cranky and bothered anyone. I don't go to fast food restaurants and would prefer to support a local business anyway, so that's why I chose to go there, even with my squirming kid. I was in line behind two guys chatting with a male employee at the counter. They seemed to have ordered already, but continued to stand at the register and talk. The employee stood listening/talking to them, not making a drink or anything, and never acknowledged me. I stood there between 5-10 min. trying to contain my kid in my arms before I had to give up and leave. I felt completely ignored. He never even looked at me. Maybe you have to be a very regular customer, or something. I don't know, but I really hope they return to a friendlier attitude someday. read more

This place has potential, but is not ready to schmooze into the hallowed halls of hippie-esque quaint coffee shops. Their choice of coffees are decent and so are their lattes and whatnots. Food choices were limited to cupcakes and muffins. Nothing to write home about. But what irked me was their choice of serving the drinks in plastic and Styrofoam cups. However, the overall ambiance was laid back, with lots of local newspapers and magazines. They do have a weekly jazz event that I have yet to experience. Maybe that will change my rating. read more

Local places are always better than enormous global chains. The good cup is great. Not only do they serve a great selection of well brewed coffee but they have a soul, a unique and intimate atmosphere. The local community is represented and served with reasonably priced options. I had a cafe au lait this week. Filled the cup with my choice of coffee, to my preference of coffee and steamed milk. The staff was friendly and efficient.
