I don't typically write reviews on Yelp, but this experience was particularly awful, and I think it's important for consumers to know what type of companies they're dealing with. I ordered a moving service through movinghelp.com to help me with a move in San Francisco, CA on Oct. 29, 2016. The movers arrived on time but I was their last move of the night so they seemed rushed to get it done. They packed my furniture into the building elevator when both me and my building manager asked them to take small trips and don't over pack it. More importantly, they damaged my TV and bed frame. I discussed it with the movers and one of them got quite angry and stormed out. I spoke with the owner of the moving company and he said he would compensate me in some way for the damage. I asked for a new TV or equivalent value, he said he would replace it as long as I sent him the ID code on the back of the TV. I did right away and I did not hear back from him. It is almost a year later so I understand this is awhile after the incident but I wanted to raise the issue since this company is not reputable or reliable. I was very disappointed in the attitude of the movers and the fact that they damaged my belongings. I'm even more surprised that I was promised some sort of compensation and no action was taken. Terrible experience. They called the DAY OF THE MOVE to say they couldn't do it. Devon kept saying he would find us another company and call back but hours went by. We scrambled and found someone ourselves but the cost was higher. Devon promised to cover the additional cost if we went with the other guys. Not only did he not do that, he has never returned my calls, emails regarding our refund...he charged us for a move her never did!!! read more

Despite confirming the order several days ahead of time, the movers were hours late and provided no updates on what was going on. I called them 5-7 different times within a two-hour period just trying to find out where they were and when they were coming--half of the time they did not answer at all and the other half they kept giving updates that--in hindsight--were clearly lies. Because we had no idea if they were coming or not, my husband and I ended up moving the majority of our furniture on our own. By the time the movers arrived, we only had approximately 45 minutes of work left for them to do. The manager, Devon, apologized for the delay and told us that he needed to drop two other movers off at another location and would be back to pick up our two movers at the end of the two hour period we had scheduled. After the two movers finished the job, we tipped them and I called the manager because when he dropped the two men off at our house, he left them with no car. When I spoke with him, I requested to be charged less because his movers were so late and their work had actually taken less than one hour. At that time, he told me that when he returned to pick them up in one hour, he would get the release code from me and give me some cash back to make up for the problems. Despite telling me he would arrive in one hour, he never returned. He left his two movers here for hours until finally--because we had plans that night--my husband offered to drive the two men home. Rather than taking each mover to a different location, my husband ended up driving them to a nearby BART station for public transportation. The movers were extremely appreciative and continuously apologized for how unprofessional the company was. For two days, I did not hear from the manager. He did not request the release code so that he could get paid; he did not update us on when he would arrive to pick up his men; and he certainly did not apologize for leaving the movers here with no transportation options of their own. After contacting Moving Help (booked via UHaul) directly, I received a full refund, and only then did Devon contact me to collect money. What a mess! Avoid this moving company! read more

Okay so, the movers we had initially called, didn't bother to show up. As panic set in amongst my family, I got on the phone and called up Good Guy Moving Co. Phew, they service our area and were very understanding to our dilemma. We needed someone that afternoon to help us move our three bedroom/2 bath house?! The response I got was "Sure, no problem, if I can't get my guys out there, I'll come myself" and that is exactly what Devon, the owner, did. The good: Movers showed up on time and helped move the heavy items I needed. The so so: One of the movers had a heavy smell of cigarettes to him. Both places smelled pretty bad and had to be aired out. Communication was poor I had to reach out to confirm the times, then I received an email request asking for specifics about the move. The movers seemed to work intentionally slow. It took 3 hour 40 minutes to load one 17 foot uhaul. I myself filled that same uhaul 3 more times in half the time. The bad: I let the movers go without inspecting everything. After they left I noticed a leg broken on an antique mid century modern credenza, a 4 inch chip on a 1800s dresser, and damage to a headboard. As soon as I noticed the damage I contacted the owner via email. He acknowledged the email and said he would call me the following day. No call, so I sent three more emails, no response. I wanted a written record of me trying to contact the owner. Overall I was not happy with the move and did not appreciate the damage to the furniture. We received a list of recommended movers from U Haul. We unfortunately couldn't remember the name of the prior moving company we used last time, so we hired The Good Guy Moving Co since they had good reviews. BIG MISTAKE. If you're looking for labors to simply move items from point A to point B this is your company. If you're expecting to work with individuals who know how to wrap, move, tie down, and not damage your items this is not the moving company for you. Two individuals showed up at our door. They were friendly, greeted with firm handshakes, however smelled like pot. Not a deal breaker, but not professional. We did a walk thru on what furniture went in storage pod vs moving truck. I also had written out on a piece of paper which item went where. I showed them the e Straps to use to tie the items down in the storage pod. They began moving a couple of items out of the first room and it seemed like they spent 30 minutes in the truck. I don't know if they were trying to figure out where to put everything or were just slow on the task. We continued doing our work on helping move boxes, and organize areas to make sure it went in the correct location. The email exchange with the company said that three hours would be plenty of time to load up what we had and unload at new location. WRONG. They spent almost the full three hours just loading. They also loaded the incorrect mattress and box springs. Once they finally had 90% of our belongings (heavier items) we decided to go to the address of the correct location. There was a hang up and we couldn't get into the location, so they began moving items up the three story stairs. This was great, however majority of the furniture wasn't wrapped. We could hear words being exchanged when they made a boo boo, and could hear dings against the stair railing. One of the leather chairs has scratch marks on it, since it was moved up the stairs without it wrapped. We ended up paying them two hours over, and I provided them lunch. It was 95 degrees outside and they were working continuously. When I returned to the storage unit I was pretty upset. The stacking and packing of items was horrible. Nothing... NOTHING was tied down.The mirrors and breakables were sat next to items, not in between mattresses, which is what most movers do. I had to take a day off of work, and return there with help to unpack the pod, and repack and securely tie all of my items. When I took out my dresser I was furious. 1. They didn't wrap it. *I had purchased wrap and they even brought their own. 2. They sat it on it's side with nothing underneath it. 3. They shoved it in a corner and it got damaged. My help and I repacked it for two hours. Overall, I am so upset with the amount of money we paid, including the two hours over, and damage made to the furniture. I hope once I unpack the storage pod that I don't find more damage. If you want to have a hassle stress free move, with people who know how to move, and aren't just labors, skip this business and move on to the next. Good: They did work continuously, they were courteous, and they were strong. Bad: They weren't fast, efficient, didn't know how to secure items for long term moving and storage. Was so happy to get through my move on Sunday 8/17 for about a 8x10 storage unit / 1br apt worth of stuff in the estimated time of 4 hours, with no back aches. We had gotten a storage unit to store a combination of furniture and boxes, and were worried that everything wouldn't fit. From start to finish, they did a great job. Would highly recommend them and want to request them again. They did a great job about being organized and packing everything in a smart way, carefully wrapping up a few items, and then tying things properly in the truck so nothing would slide around and get broken. Once we got to our storage unit, they worked some magic in fitting everything neatly into our storage unit, and were very considerate in making sure things that we wanted to reach were accessible. Terrible experience with this moving company! Don't hire them! They damaged furniture, didn't know how to stack the trailer, damaged the floor by scooting heavy furniture around. They arrived four hours after scheduled time and were already tired before they even started working at our place. They only finished about three quarters of the job at 9pm and we had to get friends to come and help with the rest. I see where someone else says they were threatened to be sued for leaving a bad report. Actually, we are in our rights to sue for damages from them. Devon runs a tight ship. I was little unsure about going with U-Haul's U-Box, but I'm glad I did because they subcontracted and excellent moving team. I had to move a sofa, mattress, box spring, coffee table, tv stand, loads of boxes, and a large dresser into a single U-Box. I had serious doubts it was possible. James and his crew arrived, did an assessment, and assured me they would have it all packed securely in the U-Box. They did exactly that. Fast. They arrived with four men prepared to work. The crew were all very courteous despite being laser-focused and they got everything moved within an hour. There was one hitch. U-Haul forgot to tell me I needed to buy a lock. James advised me on how to get a lock at the storage facility and made arrangements for me to pick up a key. At one point, Devon even stopped by to check on his crew. These guys run a tight operation. I will call them again when I need to get my stuff out of storage in about a month. read more

Damian and Jonah came and helped us with a move. They were prompt, courteous and definitely knew what they were doing. All of our furniture arrived to our new home safely and without damage. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone looking to move in the east bay. Payment for additional time was also easy as we were able to pay via paypal on our smartphones. Just completed a move and it was fantastic! Devon organized and Paul and Jonah moved my u-haul u-box from the SF warehouse to my third story apartment. The crew was very professional, friendly, and helpful. Also, because the group picked up the box and brought it to the apartment, they took all the stress away from renting a trailer and truck. Other than that...the boys he hired to unload our things were not experienced professionals at all!! They were late... 1.45hrs and were too tired to do the job! They're slow, slow, slow and lacked the ability to know how to move furniture!! They lacked knowledge of a real moving company, incompetent, inefficient, lacked urgency! They needed a kick in the butt to get moving! Two guys moved very few furniture within two hours and we still had boxes to unload and we had a lots of stuff. SLOW and TERRIBLE movers! I can go on and on... but what good would that do other than to tell you to DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! I hired them thru Uhaul - never again would i do that!! I had a great experience with these guys. I had a fairly large move, but they were able to work some moving magic and managed to fit it all in my uHaul (even though I probably should've rented a bigger truck). Devon, came multiple times during the move to make sure his employees were handling everything properly (which they were). I ended up going a half hour over my time, and while I'm sure it doesn't always happen, Devon ended up throwing it in for free. Overall, they were all very professional and it was a great experience. Devon kept me updated throughout the week even though uhaul was horrendous with forklift issues, no confirmation, etc. He ended up helping me rent the truck so I could get my stuff today rather than wait another weekend for the forklift to be fixed. His team arrived promptly and assisted in moving everything up to my flat within 30 minutes. It was a seamless procedure. Definitely go with them. read more

Worst of all, instead of letting me know that there was a problem and my movers would never show up, he kept telling me they were on their way. I had rented a truck and told my landlords I would be out that day. I wasted time, money and so much stress and his response made things worse. He assured me he would pay for the truck I never used. Called up Devon 2 days ago to move an upright piano. Paid the invoice online. He showed up with his team at the pickup location. They carefully wrapped up the piano, used a dolly, and secured it on to a U-Haul truck. Successfully delivered the piano to the unloading site. Of course, the customer should do their part and clear the path and you should have a good experience with Good Guys. Thanks Devon. read more

On the up side, these guys work very hard. I give them a lot of credit for this. BUT.... they don't really have the training to handle furniture properly. My Ethan Allen table has a $1500 estimate for refinishing because of the damage they did during the move. I also have a broken desk, armoire with pieces broken off the trim and chairs with dents in the sides. Not to mention some beat up walls in my house. The manager Devon Roland came by after I complained and offered to refund the full amount to my credt card of $643.00 because of all the damage they caused. Unfortunately, he lied and did not make good on his promise. Hey Mr. Roland, you should do the right thing and give back the amount you promised when you accepted responsibility for the damage. After all, I would pay a lot more to get things fixed I hope everyone that reads this learns from my mistake hire someone that really knows what they are doing with your precious things. read more

I hired the company to move me February 2, 2013 and have had such poor customer service. They were to help me with my situation not add to the headache. First let me tell you all, you must rent your own truck and produce wrapping materials. You may as well save your money and hire someone else to do a good job. They were late. Had scratched my dining table and dresser. I actually sent pictures of the scratches of the table legs to whom I believe is the owner and also called about employees being on their phones later on in the day. The owner stopped by to check on his staff. After they left I had seen my table scratched up with deep grooves from the metal railing the movers sat it on because they did not dismantle it or wrap it, pure laziness. Once I got to see my table upright I took pictures and notified the owner. He said the employees stated the scratches were present before I moved out. That was not the case. As a way to fix my problems the owner asked if I would like for him to buy me the products from a store to refinish the table or send someone. I chose the second. The day he came with a different worker to evaluate the damage, he stated that the three employees that moved me were on suspension. The following week the guy that was returning to finish my table had also been cut from the roster. Since then I have made several attempts in contacting The Good Guys. I'm still waiting for his call back. I highly recommend TO NOT HIRE someone who conducts his own business so poorly. He wouldn't even respond to calls OR emails to the agency he was referred to me by-and the company that advertised him. What does that say about a person??? Avoidance to make it go away? Afraid to deal with the situation that the company screwed up on? Yet they take your money as if they did a good job. So my question is: When will this company RESOLVE the issue??? It's been 4 months!!! I somehow hoped that it could be resolved quickly and not by the company's negligence. Highly disillusioned and disappointed! A---you still got my #. Make it right! read more

Predators. Stole two large wooden cabinets, and their contents: relics like my grandmothers' and parents (and my own, from two marriages) wedding rings, some with metacarpal bones as relics, made pendants to be worn as a scapular. Every piece of jewelry I ever made of was made for me, every piece of tin and hunk of gold that's served as a roadmap to personal history, keys to my identity after surviving, barely, more than a decade of devastating domestic violence. These guys showed up without a confirmation call, not dressed for the gig. Had a van, but not what Id reserved and paid plenty for. Went ahead and splurged on my behalf on the cello wrap I refused: hate that stuff, only good for spreading infestations, and I've a deadly allergy to most insects so no. Except yeah: they wrapped everything in it. I didn't get the chance to put the jewelry cases or the console table with its drawers full of tools, keys, gloves, makeup, apple accessories, cameras, two iPhones, and two macbook pros on the shelves below, but figure they wrapped those up and maybe his and kept them when a too-fast corner sent ggem airborne. 2hr minimum per the guy who sent these nameless thugs out. I should have sent them away, but dude had already taken way over that rate ($285 for the 17' and sctual help, with cleanup as ordered.). These guys were 20min behind me after leaving first, and the move was 3 whole miles, along San Pablo ave to mc bryde: no way to even ponder getting lost. That the wood and leather trunks that held old cameras and toys and curios, vinyl records, bolts of leather, steel mesh boning, and finished corsets, were empty when I checked was shocking enough: who doesn't fill up trunks to move? When I realized there was no console table, that my car had no jewelry boxes in the back seat, that my shark and Dyson and craftsmen vacs were gone, my garden shelves, my coats and hats, my curtain rods and boxes with full cans of Behr paint.. And that 40minhad barely tolled... These guys dumped what they didn't find salable in my garage, an impossible heap despite being asked to bring it inside, to specific rooms. They were in the truck and pulling out by the time I hung up from calling to see where they'd got to, and offered a pair of scowls she I asked that they get my microwave and toaster ovens out from under the large furniture boxes that turns out were filled with trash and recycling from the kitchen and bathroom. Not the home and copper cans of plastic inserts: just the trash. I'm pretty sure that, like others, the decision to take md for everything I had left after horrific medical abuse left me disfigured and dying from liver, kidney, heart and lung injuries. If I'd been able to breathe and heft my own.boxes, I would have been ripped off for fees maybe but would have my hands and neck ac ears looking like they should, bedecked in amethysts and garnets and great bony Maori fish hooks. And migh not have lost $600 to my landlord for the hauling of trash bags to the curb for prepaid pickup, as these guys were paid to do. I might have sifted thru the stuff the prior helpers stashed in the backyard for me to deal with lster, but spent weeks tearing apart the new place, garage, and offsite storage looking for my rings and keys and pendants and sunglasses. And visors for my car, plastidip oped and ready for reinstall and then swiped. I've called several times to inquire as to whether those two remember seeing and packing up the cabinets & table. Had a promise of a callback "tomorrow when I'm infring of my computer" and straight to voicemail since. I'll leave another message today before bringing the Richmond PD to the yard to see if there's a repository for lost property. All told they're looking at felonies, of my stuff is found there. I don't expect it will be-it's been weeks-but ivd got photos and serial numbers and a righteous indignation needs vindicating. read more

Working with Good Guy Moving Co was like a breath of fresh air in an otherwise horrendous moving experience! :) After searching and searching Yelp for someone who would pick up, deliver and unload my U-box, U-Haul recommended their services. These guys had excellent communication as to when they were tracking to arrive, and worked very, very hard. They unloaded our pod in record time; absolutely killed themselves, were safe with our things, and were still fun to joke around with during the whole thing! I've made at least seven major moves in my life and without question DeVon and his assistants made this the easiest move ever. How DeVon was able to fit so many various sized boxes, my bike, my bed and so much else and stack it neatly, carefully and compactly into that little pod so there wasn't an inch of wasted space where the items could shift was truly a miracle to behold. I suspect he is some kind of mathematical genius the way he puts all the pieces together like a huge puzzle. DeVon was also great at getting back to me quickly by email when I had some questions, and calling me first thing in the morning then keeping me up to date on his progress with several follow-up calls until he arrived with the pod right on time. Besides being so friendly, professional, and super-hard working, he's an excellent manager expertly directing his able, friendly, and equally hard-working assistants. These guys worked as a real team, non-stop without taking any breaks. When I moved in to the apartment I'm now vacating, the movers I had then would take one box or item at a time, rest for a few moments with each flight of stairs, and then stop to take breaks of ten minutes or more about every 15 minutes. They spent hours emptying a pod that DeVon and his guys were able to fully pack neatly and efficiently, in about 40 minutes. One moment I had an apartment filled with dozens of boxes and all my stuff and suddenly everything was neatly packed into the pod. This was the easiest move I've ever made in my entire life, but only because I was lucky enough to have found Good Guy Moving. I rarely ever write reviews for anything, but these guys were just too good not to recognize with a positive review. Fortunately, I had some extra cash on hand, to double their tips because they did such good work. In six months I'll be moving back to the Bay Area and you can be sure that I will be calling DeVon at Good Guy. read more

Devon and his team were great. They were a bit delayed due to a job earlier that morning but kept me notified throughout the process. I booked them through U-haul and last minute, U-haul changed the location of where my U-box was meant to be picked up. That typically means I would be charged more but Devon said since it wasn't my fault he would waive the fee. Obviously moving is enough of a hassle so it was a big relief when he said he wouldn't make me take up the additional charge with U-haul. After packing my U-box like a tetris master, he even gave me a lock because mine supposedly could break off in the shipping process. Would recommend The Good Guy Moving Co to others read more

I have moved a lot and by far this was one of the most smoothest moves. DeVon is very friendly and he clearly told me upfront about all the costs and charges. He also made my life easy by sending me paypal invoices so that I dont have to carry cash - something several "unreliable" movers do. Also, I had pre-negotiated certain moving rental supplies and at the end DeVon did not even charge me for that. I know its sort of hard to belive but if you are upfront and honest to him he will act the same way. If you are looking into a short distance move around bay area I highly recommend this company. If you're considering a terminal to terminal move with U-Box and plan to do all the moving yourself DON'T DO IT. Hire Good Guy Moving to handle it for you. We moved to San Francisco with plans to take our U-Boxes from U-Haul and unload them ourselves, and at the last minute changed our minds and decided to use a moving company. Best decision I ever made. Good Guy Moving worked quickly and carefully and did an amazing job getting all our stuff into our second floor apartment.
