Came for brunch recently with the family. My kids got scrambled eggs, which were fine. I ordered my eggs over easy, but they were cooked over hard, yolk's were not the least bit runny which is the main reason to order over easy. My partner's eggs benedicts were forgotten, then arrived not fully cooked, assumed the order was rushed. For $15/$16 they should be able to cook eggs properly. Staff was friendly enough, but that doesn't make up for poorly cooked food that can be done better at a greasy spoon for half the price. I know they're trying to be fancy, but the food should really come first. Based on other reviews it looks like dinner or lunch is the way to go. read more

We visited with a group of friends and very much enjoyed our dinner. We were very impressed with the service that we received. Our waitress was very friendly, and they were very accommodating with special requests, which bumped this review from a 4 star to a 5 star. We started with Lisa's favorite, and I could not get enough of the roasted garlic. It was perfect. I enjoyed a pear martini before dinner as well. I had the baked haddock for dinner with a side of brussels sprouts. The brussels were very flavorful. The haddock could have used additional spicing but otherwise, good. Having been a long time devotee of The Good Table for many years with the previous owners I was anxious to try it with new ownership- I ordered the chicken- something I would not typically order out- the dish was served with farro and broccolini- it was absolutely delicious - the sauce that was with the chicken was heavenly- the chicken was tender and crispy- a very elevated dish. I will say that I think the menu could be expanded some as it is presently a bit limited- that said, it would be hard for me to get by the chicken in the future! read more

You can't go wrong at The Good Table for breakfast. The location is set off the road and not far from the water. The atmosphere is very comfortable, but loud as it is open concept. But who cares. Once you start eating one of the cinnamon rolls, you are lost forever. I could eat one alone, but shouldn't so bring a friend or two. The food options for brunch are awesome and many ingredients are local. It does not matter if you have a group with various dietary needs, you can find something that will appeal to you and of course be delicious. I had been waiting with great eagerness to try the new Good Table restaurant in Cape Elizabeth, Maine - having been an ardent fan of the old Good Table for years - only to be disappointed. The ambience was quite sterile. None of the flavor (palate wise as it turns out , or decor wise) of the previous Good Table. I don't know why they kept the same name . It's nothing like the old restaurant . The food selection wasn't great -not many options. We had brunch. Eggs Benedict were too salty, and the potatoes were nothing to write home about. Nothing special about them.My friend's anchovy toast was too salty. My other friend's fish chowder was so spicy. I've never heard of putting those kind of hot spices in fish chowder. I stopped in for lunch during restaurant month, Cute nook kind of place. Not saying it's small at all. Good size parking lot, nice porch to wait on if they are very busy. Lots of small cozy tables that can be placed together if you have a large group. Good size bar. Some interesting drinks on the menu with there own spin on them. Lots of wines on the menu. The interior is nice and calm nothing extremely fancy. The staff where very kind, if my cup got anywhere new empty it was refilled. The food was made from tasty. Good size portions for what I had. When I contacted the restaurant to inquire if the kitchen was accepting to go orders, acknowledging that it might be too busy to do so, the individual who answered the phone was exceptionally rude. They yelled "No!" before I could even complete my question, followed by shouting, "HARD NO!" I hadn't even pushed the request. Tables around us were getting attention presumably because they knew those customers personally. When dinner came, we were not asked about drinks. During dinner, we were not checked in on. By far the best clam chowder I have ever had on the east coast. Amazing! The Lobster Cobb salad was also very fresh and delicious. The ambience was casual diner with friendly waitstaff. I love this place so much! Honestly, I've been many times and they have never failed. Got some delicious take away food from this spot while staying down the road. For a spot kind of off the beaten path this had some really interesting and tasty options. So, if you've heard about their infamous cinnamon rolls and are craving one Monday through Saturday, tough luck. Also, they very strictly enforce the breakfast/lunch menu differential (which is important to note because they really do take it very seriously here). Now, why the quiche is ONLY on the lunch menu seems absolutely ridiculous to me. Granted, when we came we were there late enough that they would have served me a piece, but the only option they had available was a meat filled one. Not sure why they didn't have a vegetarian option, as well - that's a whole demographic that isn't being catered to (and, let's face it, quiche is not that hard to make or whip together). In the end, seriously let down by my choices, I went with the "tasty homefries" (that's how they were listed), and the Belgian waffles topped with blueberries and an almond-ginger butter. 1) The "tasty homefries": falsely advertised, my friends. They were generic at best. Each potato chunk (best way to describe how they were cut) was different sized, there was no seasoning whatsoever (side note: the salt was CAKED inside the lid, so it wouldn't come out - kinda gross), and they were a little on the greasy side. 2) The Belgian waffles: I admit, the waffles were totally and utterly perfect, but the almond-ginger butter was weak in flavor. I couldn't taste any almond or ginger (as a ginger lover I was hoping for some zing) in it. The blueberries were bountiful, though, and I appreciated the summery/Maine feeling to it. But all in all, for now, I'd have to say... "meh, I've experienced better". Don't get me wrong the service and space were both impeccable. The servers were thoughtful, consistent, and patient with my deluge of questions. The atmosphere feels homey yet classy (I positively loved sitting in the screened in room in the back where I could watch the birds at the feeder - if I closed my eyes, I could have been sitting at the kitchen table of my grandparent's summer home at Sebago like I was ten again - AMAZING!). But, given the (what I personally feel is a serious) lack of quality vegetarian choices, I can't see myself necessarily coming back here unless it was a Sunday so I could try the cinnamon rolls and I called ahead to see if they had a vegetarian quiche option, too. But then, with so many other brunch options to discover and explore on a Sunday in Portlandtown, its hard to want to come back here until some of those have been eaten at first! read more

Unless this orange juice came from the rare Florida Honeybells (the undisputed Rolls Royce of the citrus arena), I'm flabbergasted by the audacity of a restaurant to charge the price they did. An hour of work at the federal minimum wage would barely cover the cost of this 10 ounce glass of juice. I must confess given the p:j (pulp to juice) ratio, I expected a surcharge. But I'm not sure my wallet will truly ever recover the price gouging on this drink. Next time your at this establishment and your weighing the option of a cold class of OJ, think again, and maybe invest that money into an IRA. read more

So great to dine at a restaurant that doesn't seem to be all Sysco. Our party of four cleaned our plates. I was so excited to try fiddleheads for the first time and they did not disappoint. We arrived on a Saturday night after trying 3 other places that had wait times of 1 1/2 hours or more. They're strict on their reservation vs walk in % and I was told on the phone it would be a 45 minute wait. They wouldn't put us on the list over the phone, but happily, they were able to seat us right away Service was friendly, considerate, and professional. I can see why they are a local favorite. I really wanted to like this place more, but for me, this will live on as "The OK table." To be fair, none of the food was bad, but just about everything else lacked the proper attention and attitude. From the moment we entered, we lingered for a while before being greeted. Then, upon being greeted, the woman said she would be right back.When she came back, she said we could sit anywhere; it seemed unnecessary to make us wait if it was "seat yourself." There was also a couple waiting behind us. Minor, but maybe ominous. Upon sitting down in an overheated room, the server asked for our drinks, and handed us menus. She came back with our water, and took our orders. As others sat down around us, several other specials were shared with them; it seemed odd to not have shared those items with us. Again, minor, but maybe ominous. When the app came, it was great. However, when my entree arrived, it was not as ordered. The dressing was not on the side (Which I had been careful to ask if that was possible - to which I received a "yes"). I waited for at least 10 minutes before the server returned, stared at me uncomfortably, and with no apology returned to the kitchen. It was unfortunate because I felt bad, and was not trying to be difficult. It felt as if I had done something wrong. All I had done at this point was order my food and wait patiently for a server who could be seen bussing tables in the other room. A little glance in our direction would have been helpful, but I was willing to wait. When the salad eventually came back, I enjoyed it. The server said sorry, but I just felt weird energy. The way she responded was just very odd. It was strange that I was giving my money to a business that was making me feel like I'd done something offensive. The last thing I would want to do is inconvenience someone, but my plate was significantly wrong. Maybe the server did not intend for her body language to communicate as she did. Maybe I misinterpreted her. Maybe she had a brain fart and did not remember how I ordered my food. Communication and human error are inevitable at times, but I'm not sure what exactly happened. Maybe she was having a bad day. Maybe the restaurant was understaffed for the shift, I don't know. I do know that based on my visit today, I would not want to repeat. So we did, except after hastily reviewing the menu we took our order to the window. Only to be told that the kitchen had closed. Wouldn't any rational Person expect to be told when we asked about seating that the kitchen had closed or was about to?? When I told the hostess of our issue all she could offer was a perfunctory "so sorry." We came a long way to eat there but we're hastily dismissed by the uncaring staff. I'd love to review the food. My friend and I had the grilled turkey sandwich which had a cranberry apple sauce. It was AMAZING. The French fries alone are WORTH it. So good! Fiancé had the "Rachel" which was their version of a Reuben. It was good. I'm a little concerned about how empty the place was but oh man I loved every bite. Service was bad but not awful. The place is pretty with a nice-sized bar plus bar tables, a pretty dining room and a back porch. The service is pleasant but not really professional for a restaurant that charges these high prices. I loved my cocktail, but $19 for a small drink is too high especially when their speciality cocktails were under $15. The wine price was fair. The kale salad was a very good portion and a fair price. We liked the roast chicken and the pork schnitzel. They add a 3% charge for the back house, though, the check says you can say you don't want to pay it. We wish there was a plate of fruit on the menu and more vegetables as a side or main dish. Pasta with some vegetables isn't enough of a vegetable dish for healthy eaters. We will go back and hope for specials, as there were none the night we dined. But we won't order a non-specialty cocktail. We were vacationing in old orchard beach and we asked a local where to have breakfast. They suggested this place and it did not disappoint. From the moment we pulled up we noticed the lovely decor of the outside. The wait staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. We started off with a Bloody Mary. Standard size but wonderful taste. For breakfast I had the lobster Beni. The sauce was not traditional but it was incredible. The wife had the cooks omelet witch was a mix of garden vegetables and wonderful cheese incredibly light and fluffy. For dessert we had fruit pie. A slice of heaven . read more

Four of us went for a late dinner last night, around 8:00, and had a fabulous time. We really wanted to try the popovers but the entree that came with them was the prime rib and none of us were ordering prime rib. We asked our server, the amazing Sandra, that since it was 8 & they close at 9 and we would likely be the last table of the night, could get a popover or 2 to split. Sandra, said let me check with the chef. She promptly came back with 2 popovers! They were amazing! Sandra said they are made with duck fat, oh my! For my entree I went with the soup of the day, which was potato, parsnip, fennel with a few bites of sausage. It was rich, creamy & full of flavor. The fennel really came through and there was just enough sausage. I'd get that again any day of the week. My dinner mates got the haddock special and ate every bite. As I mentioned, they close at 9, however, we sat there until 9:30 drinking wine & chatting. They never made us feel uncomfortable or rushed. The atmosphere is lovely, homey & very comfortable. I loved the bathroom so much I had to add a couple pics. I have an odd obsession with cool bathrooms, don't know why, I just do. Odd, I know. Great first time after ownership change, awful two weeks later. Loud...if you make a reservation and want to hear your date's and your voices, request seating in the main dining room. The back porch is loud, even at half capacity. First visit was very nice. We shared the mussels, ordered cocktails, had the schnitzel and roasted chicken dishes, and then shared dessert. Great service. Total time at table was about 1.5 hour. Second visit, was a huge disappointment. We ordered a cocktail and a mocktail. We shared the crab cake...expected a little more for the cost, but it was okay. My entree selection on our first visit was a toss up between the schnitzel and the shepherd's pie. I chose the shepherd's pie this time. It's a very narrow, shallow dish of nuclear-hot mashed potatoes, diced carrots, peas and some kind of gravy. it's supposed to have lamb, but I couldn't discern any. It was just a hot, mushy mess and unlike any shepherd's pie I've ever had. My wife ordered the scallops. We rarely give a darn about the price while dining, but 3 medium sized scallops for $36 is obscene. The current market price for jumbo scallops, and these were nowhere near jumbo, is $30 per pound (a dozen or so). So even at a market price of $3 per scallop, charging $12 each is unconscionable. The waiter explained it away saying that the scallops are the only normal-sized portion in the restaurant. We've had scallop appetizers for half that unit price at finer restaurants than this. Fine dining and elite preparation should consist of more than just marking up your product 300 percent. The after dinner coffee was very tasty, but comes in a small cup and don't expect a refill. The new favorite dessert choice to share is the cookie plate. A nice assortment of large cookies. We share two and took the rest home. Total time at table was 55 minutes. So, first visit was Excellent...second visit was Poor, averaging out to Average. We will give them another shot based on lessons-learned and memory of the first visit. read more

From the moment I walked in I was treated with smiling faces. I was sat quickly and given a choice of which table I preferred which was exceptional. We really wanted a cinnamon bun and luckily we ordered the last one. It was as tasty as it looked. I ordered a coffee and a blood orange mimosas both were delightful. I ordered the jose's veggie burrito and boy oh boy, momma yes! The size was large and full of goodness. The home fries were nicely seasoned. I always enjoy a medley of sweet potatoes mixed in. My husband had eggs Benedicts and he savored them to the last bite. Our friend ordered an omlete and was please. It was well worth the drive out to the cape.
