Great first time after ownership change, awful two weeks later. Loud...if you make a reservation and want to hear your date's and your voices, request seating in the main dining room. The back porch is loud, even at half capacity. First visit was very nice. We shared the mussels, ordered cocktails, had the schnitzel and roasted chicken dishes, and then shared dessert. Great service. Total time at table was about 1.5 hour. Second visit, was a huge disappointment. We ordered a cocktail and a mocktail. We shared the crab cake...expected a little more for the cost, but it was okay. My entree selection on our first visit was a toss up between the schnitzel and the shepherd's pie. I chose the shepherd's pie this time. It's a very narrow, shallow dish of nuclear-hot mashed potatoes, diced carrots, peas and some kind of gravy. it's supposed to have lamb, but I couldn't discern any. It was just a hot, mushy mess and unlike any shepherd's pie I've ever had. My wife ordered the scallops. We rarely give a darn about the price while dining, but 3 medium sized scallops for $36 is obscene. The current market price for jumbo scallops, and these were nowhere near jumbo, is $30 per pound (a dozen or so). So even at a market price of $3 per scallop, charging $12 each is unconscionable. The waiter explained it away saying that the scallops are the only normal-sized portion in the restaurant. We've had scallop appetizers for half that unit price at finer restaurants than this. Fine dining and elite preparation should consist of more than just marking up your product 300 percent. The after dinner coffee was very tasty, but comes in a small cup and don't expect a refill. The new favorite dessert choice to share is the cookie plate. A nice assortment of large cookies. We share two and took the rest home. Total time at table was 55 minutes. So, first visit was Excellent...second visit was Poor, averaging out to Average. We will give them another shot based on lessons-learned and memory of the first visit. read more

Wifey texted on her way home from her overnight shift at the hospital and suggested going to breakfast. Our rule is that whomever invites, pays; so of course I said yes. She suggested The Good Table, as we recently moved to the more immediate area (Higgins Beach). We'd been there before, for lunch, and was not wowed. As noted in other reviews, word-of-mouth would suggest this is a Michelin Star restaurant; and while better than average, it's not to those standards. That's not to say that we won't be back, however. We'd heard that breakfast is the best option here, so we were excited - and not disappointed. Wifey & daughter ordered pancakes (blueberry and chocolate chip, respectively); safe bets anywhere. And they were good - huge & fluffy. Now, I ordered the lobster Benedict. I posted a picture of it to the restaurant's Yelp page. It was delicious. Tons of lobster and a rich, lemony Hollandaise that may the best I've had in the area. The yolk was nice & runny. I pretty much devoured it like the hungry pig I was (am?). The other breakfast options looked inviting as well, including the banana & walnut pancakes, which I'm told they are famous for. Next Sunday, maybe. Service was friendly; we arrived at 8:15am; soon after opening, so they were not yet too busy - but they did fill up quickly. The sunny front porch looked like a great spot to sit & have a couple cups of coffee, but we had more to do. Again, maybe next Sunday. So we will for sure be returning for breakfast, and maybe dinner eventually (we like to cook dinner at home). Another fun thing about The Good Table - we had Lucky Charms coffee mugs. My husband and I decided to stop for some dinner on a Saturday night and were in the vicinity of the Good Table. I have been to the Good Table for breakfast (solid), but had not been for dinner in a long time . The parking lot was crowded, although we were able to get a spot and the hostess was super friendly. We got a table pretty quickly, even though the restaurant was hopping with a combination of couples and families. There were interesting specials and a small craft cocktail menu. The craft cocktail list had prices noted as did the menu, but the specials board and the beer/wine list had no prices listed which made for an uncomfortable mystery associated with ordering. Here is what we got: Stella Artois-price? (fine) Craft cocktail with bourbon and cherries $10 (not good, watery with no flavor) An app of warm brie, baguette and a roasted garlic bulb-price? (very good) I got the gyro platter $15 (Awesome. Lots of grilled meat, pita, a small side salad and plenty of tzatsiki sauce-yum!) My husband got spaghetti with mussels $18 (He LOVED it, said it was the highlight of his meal) We split a piece of carrot cake-price? (solid, smallish for two to share) The bill came to $64 before tip, so I guess I could figure out the missing prices backward from there??? After we ordered, there was a long wait for drinks. The waitress came over to apologize (she was great!) and then everything we ordered came within the next 3 minutes. The drinks came, in another minute someone delivered the app to the table and then in another minute, our entrees arrived. While it was nice to go from famine to feast, there was clearly some timing issues going on in the kitchen. Overall, It was an ok meal. I can see how the Good Table does so well in that they are located in a residential area where there are not a whole lot of options without driving into Portland. They are definitely experiencing some competition with the relatively new Rudy's next door, which had a PACKED parking lot and looked way too crowded for walk ins. We live in Portland though, were there are so many stronger options. We just happened to be in the area tonight. Would I return for dinner? Probably not. P.S. The women's restroom is worth a stop. We arrived after the lunch rush hoping for a quiet and relaxed lunch. The waitress was a crank from the moment we walked into the place. She left us waiting for a table while she did other things when a hostess appeard and finally gave us menus to look over. Finaly our watress pointed to a table and said " your tables over there" then disappeared. She continued to be rude and cold throughout. The clam chowder was very good, stuffed with clams. I had the gyro sandwhich which was fair as it was beef not lamb. The fries were the best part of the meal. My husband wanted calamari but could only get it in a ceasar salad. Ok the salad was a generous bowl with some very nice calamari on top but the dressing!!!!! Was a terrible strong garlic white sauce that totally ruined the taste of eating anything. The waitress never came to check on our meal and when we decided to leave didnt give a hoot that the salad was bad. Convenience obviously doesnt outweigh quality. Great food, great atmosphere. My wife, father-in-law Lorenzo, and I went out here before visiting Two Lights and Kettle Cove. I had the market omelet, apparently a changing special. That day's was fresh tomatoes, spinach, and feta. Very fresh and good! Lorenzo got the corned beef hash (made in-house) and eggs and my wife got Jose's veggie burrito. Both were enjoyed greatly. Apparently that day there were also several blueberry specialties on hand (including a blueberry wing sauce on the specials board), though we didn't have any. Aside from the view, the interior is also well-decorated, very homey appearance. Especially in the bathroom! Like a friggin' library, the men's; the women's is filled with hats. Hats. We ate in the back, in a screened in patio sort of room. It was great eating right by the woodsy area, but perhaps they should do something to prune the hedges and make it look a bit neater. Plant some flowering bushes, maybe. Nevertheless, the good tables (ha!) at Good Table are the ones in that room. read more

We were able to get a reservation on Mother's Day and the whole meal was perfection. The atmosphere is low key and inviting. There was many families there. That said, the menu was very upscale. I started with the Kale caesar which was ample enough to split with my daughter. We also ordered the brown bread rolls. Both were delicious. Our main courses were scallops and I had the halibut. Both were mouth watering. And we had 2 desserts - the pudding pie and a specialty dessert that was a cream puff with lemon custard and raspberry preserves. Every course was interesting and definitely nothing one would make at home. The restaurant had little touches that we enjoyed - beautiful wine glasses and lovely dishes. And finally, the service was outstanding. I love restaurants that bring the food out when it's hot. So many restaurants, probably because of staffing shortages, lack in the service department. But this was not the case with the Good Table. We will be back. read more

When you score a find like Good Table, you are torn as to whether to share it or horde it. Given that I am only in Maine for a few days, sharing it seems like the safe and gentle thing to do. If I don't, how will you score your own delicious breakfast? The service was ON, and that's no small deal given the opening crowd of breakfast diners waiting to descend upon Good Table. However, with calm and flow, the staff got us our orders. We know that we breakfast diners can be notoriously impatient whilst awaiting our first coffee of the day. I purposefully looked at facial expressions to see that no one was flustered, not even our server. Nicely done! Now, the food: I ordered the Farmers' Omelette with spinach, tomato and feta. This is typically my 'go to' hangover breakfast, and I've had a few in my day. However, this one left the others lagging well behind in the race. The spinach was fresh and abundant, the eggs perfectly cooked and fluffy, and the feta (I believe) homemade. Each ingredient was discernible, yet wonderfully melded. Wow, all this poetry for an omelette. Yup, it was that good. My dining partner had the hash which is also housemade and smacked of pure corned beef goodness. 'No can' is how it is advertised, and the only can I could sense was, "Can I have more, please?" We have one more day here in Maine, and I can tell you where I'll be at 8:00 AM tomorrow...Good Table. The Good Table is a must try if you are in the area. I have only been for breakfast, but am planning on joining them for dinner one night this summer. The building itself is so cute and homey. The farmers porch welcomes you with planters of fresh flowers and a chalkboard teasing you with their pie of the day. Inside the decor is simple, clean, with a fun vintage flair. At breakfast they always play classic oldies music which creates a nice atmosphere. The restaurant is family owned and many menu items have a Greek flair. The way the owner describes the daily specials makes you want to try a bite of them all. This weekend they were offering French toast made with their famous cinnamon buns. Let's talk about the cinnamon buns...they are the reason I keep coming back. Only available on Sundays though! We were lucky to have a tray just coming out of the oven as we placed our order upon sitting down. The cinnamon bun arrived in all it's massive glory, filling the plate. The warm sugary glaze spilling down over the sides and onto the plate. Seeing one coming your way is just as exciting as the first time. After attacking some of the glaze spillage, you cut into the bun and cinnamon steam wafts up and is a total sensory experience. Inside the bun itself are soft raisins and cinnamon swirls. Taking a perfect bite means getting a little bit of the soft doughy center, a crusty edge, and a swirl of sweet glaze. Beyond the cinnamon buns, the rest of the menu is tasty too. To be honest, I'm not a huge breakfast person in general. My husband adores the corned beef hash. Portions are more than generous. I can never even make a dent in my meal after the cinnamon bun! One of my only complaints, and it's not a big one, is that they have cream on the table in the packaged little cups. I would also love to see some lunch-ish options on the breakfast menu for later weekend dining. All other things aside, that cinnamon bun is what will keep me coming back again and again. On a past visit, I heard the owner talking about how they source ingredients from a local farm. Took a small road trip up here from Quincy (with a visiting friend) to view the Portland Head Lighthouse (as well as Portland). I believe it was TripAdvisor that lead us to this restaurant. The place is very cute, and the menu was pretty expansive for the small place that it is. We all got sandwiches and were happy with them. My only complaint is the cranberry chutney (or whatever it is) in the grilled turkey sandwich. It wasn't very good!! I still ate the whole thing though. :) We also got the peach and blueberry cobbler. Our friend is from the DC area so she HAD to have a taste of Maine blueberries. :) The cobbler was delish but it had more peaches than blueberries. Whatevz, it was still delish. The servers were quite nice and attentive. The restaurant is clean. The bathrooms are clean. It was easy to get there from the lighthouse. If we ever take a road trip to explore more of Cape Liz, we will come back!!!! PS If you like lobstah (I don't- I know, I live in New England and hate lobstah, how egregious...), the lobstah they serve comes from "the icy waters of Cape Elizabeth"- so you are really eating local!!!! I decided to try my first ever lobster roll here. The fries were crispy but the roll was mediocre and not toasted as per the menu states.The lobster was very fishy and almost unbearable to eat near the end. Definitely not worth the $18 price tag (which they don't list unlike other places we visited). The clam chowder was broth based instead of cream based so flavor wise it was alright but they should really specify this on the menu as I have only ever had cream based clam chowder and for the money, it was overpriced. My boyfriend tried the fish and chips and he said it was the worst fish and chips he's ever had. The fish had absolutely zero flavor to it. Also, service was very slow despite not being incredibly busy. We won't be eating here again as the food was mediocre and the lobster roll almost had me vomiting. Every now and then we think about the restaurants in Portland, but take a look at the parking situation (amazingly expensive and hard to get a spot anywhere) and think again. The Good Table is as good as it gets. Check out that menu and note that you can get the turkey dinner whenever you want it. Don't wait for Thanksgiving, they have it NOW! Fish is delicious, appetizers will tempt you and they're fantastic. The drinks are wonderful. There's always something new and special. You cannot beat the Good Table! So glad I ventured off peninsula for Maine Restaurant Week, specially to The Good Table in Cape! While they do not usually take reservations, they did so for MRW, even for smaller parties, e.g. three people. The environment was very warm and homey with plenty of parking out front. We were greeted and seated promptly and served a homemade small plate while we perused the menus. The waitstaff was incredibly service oriented, friendly, and knowledgeable of specials. We went in earlier side-- dinner is served starting at 5:30 PM, and the restaurant was packed by 6:00 PM; when we left there was a brief wait in the alcove. A do-not miss! I recommend their house marinated pork chop AND save room for dessert! read more

I came here on a Sunday night and the service was really good. Cute location. I had the side salad - good dressing- and the ribs. The ribs were tasty and "fall off the bone". I was able to eat them without having to pick them up with my hands at all. ( I was iffy on ordering them as I was a job interview and didn't want to be messy.) You can see from my husband (Sam S.'s) review that this place is a delight. Being so far out towards Cape Elizabeth means you have to WANT to go if you live closer to Portland, but it's a trip well worth the cost of gas. There are often crowds on weekends and daily specials help explain that. My veggie burrito was wonderful and was completely finished despite my post gastric bypass eating capacity. This place fits the pattern of most quality eateries in Maine. Having lived there 20 of my 28 year life, I can tell you this is one of the standard bearers for quality meals as an outing experiance. read more

Food was good. Service was only soso though. Waitress couldn't answer questions about beer. We had to ask her to check she didn't offer to go find out. After we placed our drink order a 2nd waitress came over and started telling us the specials, then asked our drink order. Which the 1st waitress didn't mention. But we told her someone already took our order. When the food came only 2 orders were correct, the other 2 "must be for a different table". 3rd order came out rather fast but then the 4th, a salad, took about another 5 minutes. My guess is new staff maybe. May go back if I'm nearby but I think I'll try someplace else first read more

Very nice casual restaurant with plenty of tables well spaced in a nice atmosphere with lots of wood. The food was classic comfort food with the seasonings and preparation of a very good chef. The short rib was very tender and flavorful, with seasonings that complemented the high quality beef instead of overwhelming the natural flavors. The pistachio crusted salmon was very well prepared with a lot of nuts in the crust. We had a brussel sprout salad that had shaved raw brussels with a terrific dressing and lots of additions like nuts. Terrific service. read more

I happened across this place while lighthouse hunting. It was right off the highway and was quite inviting (and got me out of the rain). I ordered a cinnamon muffin (roll) and the lobster eggs Benedict. I'm a huge fan of eggs beni, but had never had it with lobster. It was the best eggs beni I've ever had!! Sauce was great, eggs poached perfectly, muffin toasted just right. It was outstanding!! The staff was very friendly as well. Our family's first meal on Cape Elizabeth during a Week of summer vacation. Warm welcome. In the summer at least they have 50/50 reservations / walk-in rule. We just missed the last open table for 3. "20 minute" wait with drinks from the bar on the porch turned into 5. Hostess is passionate about food and told us the specials like telling a fascinating tale. Someone is paying close attention to the details in the kitchen including sourcing outstanding ingredients and pulling it all together. The haddock chowder was probably the best chowder I've ever had. Lightly seasoned to allow you to actually taste the chowder. We shared bruschetta which was done perfectly with seasonal tomatoes, onions, peppers - seasoned and dressed perfectly. Our son had a burger (medium well, plain with only ketchup and mayo at his request) and loved it. My wife and I had the cod and corn a seasonal favorite at the urging of the waitress and hostess. Amazing. Cod was done perfectly. The corn purée could go so wrong but doesn't. Other veg done perfectly. Shared blueberry cheesecake which was superb and flavorful. Best meal in a long, long time. For me, this place is all about brunch and the Juanita's burritos. Oh, and the insanely huge and delicious cinnamon rolls. This used to be my go to place for Sunday brunch in greater Portland, but the last few times the service has been subpar. Waiting for 10 minutes at the desk with people ignoring you isn't going to put any one in a great mood before they start to eat. Not sure what's going on behind the scenes, but it felt like there was a lot of frustration on the part of the staff last couple times I was there. I had heard a lot about brunch at this place but hadn't yet made it when we saw their restaurant week menu for lunch and dinner and thought it looked great. Lunch starts at noon on Saturdays. We got there at 12:30-ish and thought we'd have to wait but were seated right away. The place was busy but there were open tables the whole time we were there. (It wasn't a great day weather-wise.) Two of our party ordered off the restaurant week menu and two off the regular menu and there wasn't a bad meal in the bunch, and we loved all three cocktails and both desserts. The only complaint was the lemon vinaigrette that came on the side of the lobster Cobb salad was more oil than anything. If the salad hadn't been inhaled so quickly we might have asked for that to be addressed. We'll definitely be back! read more

I guess if they have to do a lousy job, they did it all at once. Our experience was awful and continued after I got the credit card bill in the mail. Our visit did not match the happy reports I've read on yelp. They have Big Time Communications Issues - staff to kitchen to guests. Maybe if you're a twosome it can be a good experience but they can't handle groups. My wife didn't get what she ordered, her dessert was 'commandeered' (waitress' term - she was TOLD to give it to someone else) and we were billed for dessert and tea that we never received. A discussion at the cashier had it removed from the bill. They verified the new dollar amount and I asked twice if they were sure that was the final amount. They affirmed it was so BUT then ADDED MONEY BACK IN after we left. I had to call the credit card company to get resolution because the owner never called me back - I had left a message with the staff. Oops - must be that communication issue again. Lots of better choices in the Portland area. Places without funny stuff going on. There is NEVER an excuse to change the total bill after a guest has signed off and left. They should have contacted me. I won't trust my evening to them again. #FAIL read more
