I had read reviews & heard from ppl "in the know" that this bar can be very "cliquey". Therefore, you may not have a good time if you happen go there by yourself. I'm glad I ignored the rumors & finally checked this place out for myself. I've been to other bars in Livermore, they all feel about the same to me. Small, kinda trashy, yet still trying to pass themselves off as classy. This lil bar had no such perception about it. It's a dive bar with cheap drinks & a pretty decent looking female clientele. The bartenders where both friendly & willing to offer up suggestions on my next drink. The Tavern could definitely use a few lovely barmaidens to up the eye-candy quotient but that wouldn't stop me from returning if they didn't. read more

This is a no frills place to stop by, if you're in the mood to have a strong drink and/or play pool and/or chat with a bartender. There is nothing fancy here, just good drinks and not-too-loud music - which is a plus now that my early 20s is only a memory of the past. Sigh. Came to the Good Time Tavern with some friends on a Monday night and unlike the other bars we walked into in Downtown Livermore this one was cracking unlike the others. We ordered 4 Patron shots, 2 Dirty Shirley's, 1 Corona, and 2 AMF's for $43 and some change. GREAT VALUE! Not only were the drinks priced very reasonably but they aren't shy with the alcohol here either! The bartender was personable and very sweet! Not only will I stop by the Good Time if I'm in Livermore, but I will make the drive out just to come here! So I like this bar a lot. But this place could use some MAJOR re-vamping. However, the bar staff is fun and friendly. The people may seem intimidating at first but are very friendly. The location is ehhh. They have one pool table (darts in the back?... hell maybe I was drunk), and an outside patio area where people smoke or whatever. I came here after a show at the Bankhead theater. I am always on the lookout for a good dive bar. This one did not disappoint! The age group was very young inside on a Thursday night, however there was two groups of older gentlemen. The place has a jukebox, a pool table, 2-5 T.V.s,and 2 arcade games(Area 51, and mortal kombat 3). The bartender was very friendly, and the pours were very generous (I would normally be sold after this statement for a dive bar). The space is definitely smaller, a sign mentioned no more than 60 people in and outside, but if there was 60 people in there it would be like a can of sardines. I like to call it... cozy. There is a free parking structure less than a block away, even on a busy night I am sure you can find parking. read more

This place makes me laugh... in a good way. How can you not have a good time at a bar called "The Good Time Tavern"? We stopped in this joint after dinner with 9 other friends on a Saturday night and basically had the place to ourselves. The jukebox, the pool table, the drink specials, the glory. (Hmm, maybe I should hold off on reviewing bars and wineries, I sound like I need help but let me explain... March is a crazy birthday month and I have about 5 friends along with my husband and sister who have birthdays in March, needless to say there is a lot of celebrating.) The best bar in Livermore, in my opinion. I have been going here since they opened, and I like it more than ever. This bar excels for two reasons:1) The owner/bartenders, Justin and Scott, who are as friendly and entertaining as can be and 2) The drink prices, which must certainly be the cheapest in town. Two dollar draft beers (including microbrews) virtually every night until 10:00. The interior possesses a great deal of character due to the beautiful wood paneling. Visual appeal is an important part of a bar, in my opinion. Generally, the place has two personalities. Early (before 10:00) it is somewhat laid back with sports on the big screen and cheap drinks. After 10:00, it becomes packed with a young people in their twenties, partying and listening to rap music on the juke box. read more

This place is a quintessentially great American dive bar. Dim lights, stiff drinks that are easy on your wallet, sports on tv, and a friendly bartender- what more do you want? They did a great job making a couple of out-of-towners feel at home. Now don't get me wrong, this place is unapologetically what it is- a no-frills dive. Love the bar itself amazing people BUT when the bartender Mariana expects you to tip its a problem. I don't do entitled. If you wouldn't leave me there until you served literally every other person first or mentioned to literally everyone of my friends I don't tip it's because of your attitude. The Good Time Tavern is the perfect name for this place! The prices are great and the drinks specials are always rad. They'll make me food even into the early hours! I'd rather eat & have a beer than wait in the drive-thru line. If you are looking for a bigger crowd go on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. The other nights are more kick back and chill. They've got a pool table, a bunch of tv's and video games. My favorite thing is definitely the Juke Box. It's just about the only bar around that hasn't switched over to the ridiculously overpriced touch screen style. I can listen good tunes without having to cash out what little is left of my 401k. i had a friend visiting from england and we did a bar crawl on a saturday night for him to experience the livermore night life in all it's glory, lol. the good time tavern was on the end of the list of bars we hit that night and we both enjoyed it more then the other bars. it wasn't to crowded that night. we both got bar stools to sit on, and served right away. there was music playing but you could still have a conversation over it. we both ordered mixed drinks and they were tasty. it was a win for that night. the con-being asked to move while your sitting at the bar for someone to shoot pool. sorry my drink is interrupting your game.....major pet peeve of mine. read more

First time at a bar. Service was quick, prioritized by arrival. I was helped regularly. Bartender was polite, and dorect. People were old. Music was good. Drinks were good, and adequately strong. Prices were cheap, had 3 strong drinks for around 12 dollars total. Left happy. Bouncer was professional but friendly. Was able to store my longboard without hassle. Other staff were friendly. A small dive bar that can pour a drink like no other. Plus there reasonably priced!! This is not a bar that wants to b a club, it stands on its own as simply a great dive where the people are friendly (assuming you are also). It's a tiny place but the porch is nice to sit out and talk to people. The bartender was very sweet and they even have dominoes you can rent to play with. Even when my friend left me to go to another place I was able to stay there and chat with a funny drunk young lady. The chicken strips were also very good and I was happy to have them at 2am. read more
