This review is based solely on the ambiance and drinks. Came in to bar/longe area for a nightcap. Was very impressed upon walking in. It is very nice inside and has a great view of the river. We went to the bar and got a drink. I was absolutely surprised by how reasonable the bar prices were. We had a seat by the window and enjoyed are beverages. The bar does serve some appetizers but since we had just ate we did not order any. I actually wished we had eaten there since the appetizers sounded good and prices were reasonable. My family went to dinner at The Gourmet Room and we were blown away by this meal. The service was impeccable, the food quality was incredible and the view of the river was unbeatable. My mom and I ordered the Roasted Rack of Lamb Provençal for two. Our entree was served tableside and our plates were prepared right in front of us. The flavor was absolutely amazing with the lamb cooked to a perfect medium rare. The meat had a subtle Dijon herb crust and rosemary garlic au jus. Nearly all restaurants that offer lamb never provide a mint jelly, which is a to die for pairing with lamb and always overlooked but The Gourmet Room knows this delicious combination is a must have. I thought the best lamb I have ever eaten was at Morton's but this lamb was better by far. Our server Brandon was such a sweetheart and so attentive. We were never made to wait and he made us feel like the only ones in the dining room. I would also like to praise the chef who prepared all of our meals. We were staying at the Riverview Hotel & Casino and was looking for a better meal than buffet and fast food. Got pretty tired of that kind of stuff. The Gourmet Room seemed to fit that bill. Walking in, it's lovely. Wonderful view, great tables and settings. Sigh. Nice. We sit down. We order the shrimp cocktail and receive five sad soggy shrimp laying limp on the plate. Seriously, limp. I have no problem with frozen seafood, but once thawed, it must be taken out of the water and not allowed to soak like a toad in a pond. The cocktail sauce was decent as was the creamy sauce paired with it. Next, was the filet mignon and the lobster plate. Both were paired with the exact same "once was pretty good veg but sat for eons somewhere and are now no longer appealing" veg combo. One carrot, 3 pieces cauliflower and about six chunks of seasoned potato that are now a lukewarm, dried out, overcooked resemblances of a veg that once was alive. The filet mignon was grainy and tasted as if had been sitting in a marinade for so long that the meat fibers had broken down. Flavor was pretty good but couldn't get past that mouth feel. Inedible. The lobster was in the same liquid swimming pool the shrimp had just hopped out of as it was waterlogged as well. Someone thought that if they threw it on a grill the char might cover up a plethora of sins but unfortunately this lobster was a very bad boy, and nothing could hide his faults. Additionally, he had been around the block a few times and the fishy taste was his downfall. Shellfish should NEVER taste fishy. Never ever. We spat that out fast. Our plates were cleared by a young waitstaff that although very courteous, could use additional training. Just clunky but nice. I'll take nice clunky. We forged on and thought surely, surely the Creme Brule will save the day. Uhhhhh... Nope! Don't know which Knorr packet this came from, but it needs to be thrown away. There wasn't a creamy egg custard flavor in sight. It LOOKED like Creme Brule but sure didn't taste like it. Unfortunately, it also left a very off-putting slime that coated the inside of your mouth. Not something I would like to end my meal with. Now. The really bad part. This meal for two cost us $180!!!!! That is with no alcohol. One. Hundred. Eighty. Dollars. Fool me once... read more

There's not much to eat in Laughlin that will take a reservation and we were on a tight schedule for a concert. Didn't want to start waiting in line at 4pm at a chain restaurant for dinner and wanted to be close to the event center. This place did the trick. Very old school atmosphere and courteous service. We had two orders of the halibut special and one chicken cordon Brie. The food was good. The bottle of wine wasn't overly marked up. Everyone in Laughlin seems to put mild cheddar cheese on their salads (odd to me but apparently normal there). There was a palate cleanser of citrus sherbet between salad and entree. Reminded me of the 1970's in many ways. The food was good. It was not inexpensive though, at least for the location. The view was terrific! read more

I strolled the Riverwalk from my hotel to the neighboring Riverside Hotel and Casino to try the Gourmet Room. The restaurant is in the northeast corner on the second floor. I had a reservation for 5:30 and I was promptly seated at a window table with stunning views of the Colorado River and the mountains in Arizona. I also enjoyed watching the water shuttle going back and forth across the river to/from the Riverside. I was offered water and I ordered iced tea. I was looking for something different and I found it in the elk chop. All dinners come with soup or salad and vegetables with the dinner. Extra sides can be ordered. The soup du jour was cream of chicken with small dumplings and was very good. The freshly ground pepper added to the taste. The bread brought before the soup was OK. After the soup, a server brought a glass with a small scoop of sorbet as a palate cleanser/intermezzo before the main course came out. The elk chop is listed as elk poivrade. It comes cut from the bone for you and covered in a rich mushroom and peppercorn sauce. If I ordered this again, I would ask for the sauce on the side and would use it more sparingly. The vegetables were a mixed lot--some carrots, baby asparagus spears, mashed potatoes, and half of a baby bok choy. I really enjoyed the change. The elk tasted more like beef than venison which is what I expected. After giving me time to relax and enjoy the view, my server, Daryl, came and told me the items they had for dessert. I went with the chocolate lava cake. Although I'm somewhat tired of this dessert, it was the best choice from what they offered that night. This was a good dining experience and the Gourmet Room would be a place tom which I'd return when I'm in Laughlin again. This my first trip to Laughlin and I must say I loved it! The goal was to find a delicious place that were still serving crab legs ! After calling many local restaurants we were directed to The Gourmet room, perfect, as we were staying at the hotel next door! Starting with service, it's was professional , fun , funny and the staff seem to work well and in sync. Our server was very familiar with the menu and made delightful suggestions. The restaurant has a very classy classic feel and look to it and offers fantastic views of Laughlin throughout! To the bartender that made our mouth watering martini s they were the perfect start to our dinner adventure!! Followed by a bottle of wine! As for dinner , as if the bread wasn't just good enough , We went with the rack of lamb , it was so perfectly cooked! Flavorful and melted in my mouth! I'd head back to Laughlin now just to eat there again! The veggies were cooked perfectly firm and offered the organic taste that complimented the lamb! The icing on our cake was certainly the king crab legs , we opted for a half order and could barely finish! It was not a disappointment! Probably the best upscale restaurant in town. Great ambience, looking out over the river, extremely attentive service. They had a great wine list, including a couple of my favorite German white wines, including the Piesporter that I enjoyed very much! My newlywed bride, and I both enjoyed the Oysters Rockefeller, and the raw oysters, which were HUGE! Many restaurants in Los Angeles could take a lesson from the size of these oysters! Salads were super fresh, our waiter was extremely friendly and attentive, and offered some top-notch suggestions for our dinner. The French onion soup was some of the best we've ever had, the Black Angus filet mignon was absolutely perfect! I decided to take a walk on the wild side and tried one of their seafood specialties, Les Coquilles Saint Jacques which had scallops, shrimp, and lobster chunks in a light Newburgh sauce. Absolutely to die for! (just shows you don't have to be able to pronounce it to enjoy it! )Highly recommend the restaurant to anyone looking for a nice, romantic dinner, and well worth the prices! The Gourmet Room is decorated like a Paris brothel and the tuxedo servers seem out of place among the Laughlin crowd. The view of the river is great but no much to see at night. Started with salad with blue cheese which was OK but had enough dressing for 3 more salads. Ordered my filet mignon medium rare but got a medium with no color left in the center. The potato of the day tasted like a Hickory Farms sausage and had some stuff mixed in that I still don't know what it was. Highlight of the meal was the martini and the broccoli. This is my favorite restaurant in Laughlin. The food, service, and ambiance are amazing. It is elegant and quiet. It is a great place to take a date, or relax and take a break. I've been treated like a queen when dining solo. The eggplant parmasean is my favorite. I'm not a steak person; but the fish is cooked to perfection. The butter was soft and the bread is warm as well. A lot of restaurants fail in those areas. I've been to many high end restaurants, and for Laughlin, I guess this is it. I'll start by saying the food was good but not great, especially for the price. A bread basket was served with different choices and nice soft butter. The house salad dressing was very flavorful. My partner had blue cheese dressing that was generous with chunks of blue cheese. The lemon ice was a pleasant pallet cleanser between the salad and main course. I ordered the Coquille St Jacques, which was served in 2 large shell shaped dishes piped with creamy mashed potatoes around the rim. The sauce was delightful. However, the seafood was chewy and lacking in flavor. My partner ordered the flat iron steak. The sauce was too sweet for his liking, but the steak was tender and medium rare as ordered. We passed on dessert and appetizers due to the high prices. Couldn't justify $14 appetizers on top of $42 entrées. Our waiter was pleasant but not overly friendly, I felt he was a little uppity. The reason for 3 stars was a large ugly stain right on the corner of the table cloth between my partner and I. Looked like spilled coffee or tea. It was nasty and unappetizing to look at during our meal. I expect a clean tablecloth at a restaurant that charges those kinds of prices. We won't be returning. read more

The walk to get there is one for the books. It's a winding walk up and down stairs and through hallways to get to this really nice old school place. We had John and Mario as our servers. Both of which were fantastic servers. I would definitely request them as my servers again. As for the gourmet room it is a 10 out of 10. It had all the right spots. From bar drinks to service to the outstanding food and atmosphere. Top-notch! We started with a dozen escargots, Fried calamari and seafood crepes. Everything so far was fantastic. We had a dinner salad and clam chowder for our starters. Everything was excellent. Dinner was the Delmonico steak cooked perfectly. We also had the lobster ravioli which was very rich but amazing. The only downfall was a steak au povire. It was very tough difficult to chew. I love the intermezzo of sorbet to cleanse your pallet. That's always a nice touch. All in all I will definitely be back to the gourmet room next time I visit Laughlin. One of the best meals I've had in Laughlin Nevada. read more

Four of us ate dinner here a few days ago. My froglegs were wonderful as usual. Dinner entrees were Eggplan Parmesan, Lobster Ravioli, Shrimp Linguini and Filet Mignon. Food was not as good as the last time but certainly well, well above average. The Eggplant seemed tough, and the Filet was a bit overdone. The other dishes were exceptional. Service was, once again, over the top...thanks for that. Prices were VERY reasonable. Finally, thanks Tom for getting us in again although this time we knew to call several days earlier. We went to the gourmet room for my birthday dinner. We have not been there for about a year and it seems things have gone downhill since then. I ordered steak and when I asked to make sure a baked potato came with it I was told that they only have the potato of the day and it would be two dollars extra for a baked potato. I said that was fine because they were serving sliced red potatoes as their potato of the day and I can't stand red potatoes. When my mail came, I received a gold foil wrapped small and sick looking potato. The steak was obviously marinated before cooking it. A good steak should stand on its own without needing any marinade. Obviously this was not the case. I had also asked them what the vegetables were comprised of that came with the dinner because I do not eat bell pepper. I was told they are a combination of vegetables and yes, they had bell pepper in them. I asked them to just not give me any vegetables when the plate came. I had one miniature carrot and one miniature bok choy that were thrown on the plate and looked as if they were an afterthought. Their presentation is absolutely terrible. It was no more appetizing or spectacular than going to Denny's. My husband ordered the pasta Alfredo with seafood. The sauce was watery with a minuscule amount of seafood for $44. It was not worth it. The appetizers were oysters Rockefeller, which my Husband said we're good and I ordered the seafood platter Again no beautiful presentation. To me it again look like an afterthought. I don't know if it is the fact that Don Laughlin died and other family members are trying to run this, but it is not working. The only thing that was really outstanding was their bread basket. We won't be coming back. read more

Oh to live in a time when every casino had a classic, higher end Gourmet Room restaurant to eat in. I am very grateful that this restaurant still exists at the Riverside Resort. I made a reservation for 4:30 pm and when I arrived was graciously offered a table right next to the window with a view of the river. The view is really something, with full floor to ceiling glass windows without any barriers blocking the view. So peaceful and relaxing. I ordered a martini and the steak poivre, which comes with a salad and bread and a side of vegetables and potato. The martini was on the small side but I actually appreciated that since this is a vacation resort and people have probably been drinking most of the day... keeps things manageable. The price of the martini was only like $8 which is a steal these days. The meal was good, and they even served a palate cleansing sorbet between the salad and entree. The thing I appreciated the most about the restaurant was just the fact that it still has the old school furnishings of molded ceiling, chandeliers, and cozy club chairs to sit in. It was a wonderful meal that set me up for a nice evening of winning a royal flush at the Riverside bar downstairs. Couldn't ask for a better evening! I'll be back. read more

Gourmet Room is back!!! Jose the chef, is fantastic. Food for a while was good, but not great. The last several times has been phenomenal. Richard and Charlie, as always, have impeccable service.Frog Legs were sautéed and seared perfect. The Orange Roughy was cooked perfect as well. Salads were as always, fantastic. Seafood Newburgh, the classic, as always,was great. If you get Crab Cakes have them sauteed as well. Do not deep fry them. You are doing them a disservice by getting them fried.
