Sweet little spot in Downtown Bastrop. Covered porch with fans made the summer heat tolerable. The waitstaff is super friendly and willing to do anything to make your visit comfortable and enjoyable. We tried Gracie's at the recommendation of a waitress at Maxine's (we got there at ten of three and they were closing). We got the chicken fried chicken and a cheeseburger. Both were really good. The bun that the burger came on was fantastic. The chicken was perfectly moist. The place itself was cute. The bathroom was being fixed while we were eating which was about fifteen feet away on the patio. That was kind of odd. If I am in Bastrop I would come back here. We have dinner here when we are visiting Bastrop. This time we brought friends of ours along. The chicken fried chicken and steak were both excellent as well as the Texas toast. That is where it ended. The worst side was the garlic mashed potatoes. They were pasty, sticky and like glue they also had absolutely no flavor. My friend ordered the angel hair pasta with garlic sauce and she said hers had no flavor as well. The carrots were fine. The brussel sprouts were boiled and tasteless as well. I was in Bastrop this past weekend and enjoyed my dinner at Grace Miller's. I ordered a shrimp, angel hair and spinach plate with extra spinach. The waitress made sure I had extra spinach before I the plate even left the kitchen, AWESOME! Fried pickles were good as was the frito pie, with FRESH jalapeños!(not a freshly opened jar). The BLT was good but not outstanding, the others ordered chef salad which came in a small bowl which I thought unusual. Total disappointment. I was a take out customer on Saturday 2/20. I planned on splitting the dinner with someone who liked those things. Got to car checked order & it had one big pile. Nothing on the side. So I came back inside. They replaced the order & not having good sense this time drove home. At home I received styrofoam filled cups with plane frito chips, one with salsa, one with just cheese & one with all the on the side items mixed together. Absolutely no chili. For side dishes we also ordered their pobablo soup and fried okra. Again, both were delicious. We were stuffed at the end of our meal and could not have asked for more. The prices are great as well but perhaps, the best part of this restaurant is that not only was their food delicious but their service was top notch. Apparently, no insulation in the ceiling and the vents push air into the ceiling void. The waitresses are sweating and having a difficult time in the heat inside the restaurant. The restaurant is in a local building with wooden floors and walls, the sort of place that makes you feel you are connected to the local vibe. The food was not spectacular, but still good. I had a chicken breast with a peach glaze. It is difficult to make a chicken breast juicy, at most restaurants it turns up dry.
