If you want some great Mexican/Tex-Mex food this is the place to go. They have amazing chicken quesadillas.

We actually ate at the Grasshopper in Wauseon, Ohio - same ownership as the Adrian, Michigan location. On the recommendation of a business associate, a friend and I made the hefty journey from Toledo - nearly 50 miles one way this past Saturday. My associate had given this place high praise. Well, we'd give it about a 2 1/2. The margaritas - regular, on the rocks - were wimpy, watery and pretty much tasteless. We ordered bean dip - not on the menu - and it was "ok". We each ordered a combination of enchiladas and burritos with the various sauces ordered and they too, were "ok". Oh, we also ordered some queso dip. This establishment actually refers to it as their "green sauce". Very odd - their idea of green sauce is melted faux cheese sauce that is actually lemon yellow in color. It was not exactly culinary heaven. On the plus side, the service was very attentive - though we were there for a late lunch and the place only had a few tables going - and it is as clean as a whistle. Would we go back? If I were in Wauseon (doubtful since this was the 1st time in my life that I've ever been there) and hungry, I'd consider it only because it was clean. I admit I'm somewhat of a Mexican food snob. And, this place was much different than the dozen or so Mexican restaurants that have opened in the Toledo area recently - none of them worth the time or money in my opinion - it's just that the food was nothing special. the food was pretty good, kinda of needs more kick though. the place looks great inside and out, very clean and neatly kept. it's definitely unique. i dont have anything bad to say about anyone working here. but i do however hate rude customers. im sitting there eating and some idiot decides to have a conversation with someone who was sitting at a table eating, and at the same time he literally has his butt directly in front of me. loudest conversation i've ever heard in a restaurant. not one single person working there said "excuse me, sir? the dining area is for guests only" this guy was standing there for quite awhile. probably longer than i was there. it actually caused me and my guests to leave early. so we get up to leave and he's just oblivious to everything around him. i gave him a nice little shove in the back and said "excuse me, we'd like to get by" at that point you couldnt stand up from your chair as to how close he was. so it was literally full of people eating dinner and other people who either wouldnt leave or came there stritctly to talk to others. 5 star service suffered because of one person. read more

One of the best Mexican restaurants in Adrian. Went in for lunch and the service was fast and friendly. The fajitas were awesome.

Wow, do not be fooled by the other reviews! This place served the worst food -- if you can call it that -- that I have ever eaten. Not the worst Mexican, seriously, the worst food. I like Mexican food and have had good stuff even in Michigan. I'm not hung up on it being authentic, but it has to taste good, with garlic and chiles and cheese from real cows. We thought we'd try this place because La Fiesta in Dundee is pretty terrible, so how much worse could this be? I am truly sad for those who grew up eating this and thinking it was "Mexican food." It's not fresh, it's not in any way authentic, and I question it's even being food. The salsa alone is a travesty. It apparently consists of some kind of powdered spice mix combined with water served in a Tupperware container. The mild salsa tasted like salty water with garlic powder. No tomatoes, chiles, or other fresh (heck, not even canned!) vegetables are present here at all. The "hot" was a little spicy, but still awful. Someone else mentioned the "green sauce." Now perhaps I'm just being pedantic, but shouldn't green sauce be green? Or contain something green, like green chiles or tomatillos or cilantro? Or at least parsley?? It was actually a Velveeta-ish yellow-orange sludge dumped over canned tamales that contained weird slimy bits of... something. Maye the bits were globs of fat/gristle. *shudder* This was industrial-grade canned slop, as were the beans. My fellow diner had passably edible huevos con chorizo, but how hard is it to screw up eggs with sausage and potatoes? The idea that this might be food, let alone Mexican food, good or heaven forbid "the best in Michigan" is absolutely ridiculous! Save yourself the indigestion and lingering desire to scrub down your tongue with some roadside slush- if forced to eat Mexican food in Adrian, go to Taco Bell. That won't be good either, but it'll cost you less and won't be from a can. read more

The food was excellent and the service was the worst I've ever personally had.. My family and I went on a busy Friday night to celebrate my sisters birthday.. Orders placed drinks and then food.. This is where it went downhill, I forgot that Adrian's city water is closely related to Chicago's and requires a massive amount of fluoride and alkaline chemicals and I refuse to drink it, so I ordered a beer just to do something while I wait for my meal.. I noticed my sister in law ordered a beer also.. Time passes, twenty minutes goes by and we both don't have a bottle of beer.. The food shows up and that's when my beer arrives, I had also placed an order for a large milk to be served with my meal and when I ask about said milk the waitress replies, yes, I have more in the back that still has to come out.. My cheese enchilada dish with rice and beans was the best enchilada I've had and the waitress tried handing it off to somebody else and i had to hand flag her down.. I had to wait a couple minutes on my guacamole and sourcream but my girlfriend could see my discontent about not having my milk with my meal and had to ask the waitress to please get it.. I had my beer after my meal, a warm beer doesn't bother me.. I left that tall glass of milk on the table and the waitress did not receive a tip from me.. This is the first time I've not left a tip in over twenty years and I will never be placing foot in the Grasshopper again.. The waitress never addressed any of my issues, could not look me in the eyes and never asked me why I didn't drink my milk after receiving it halfway through eating my meal, god bless everyone and hope you have better service, the food is 10 outta 10 for sure, just need some new management.. read more

Good food, especially the guac, I don't get the chilled red wine, what they really need to stay open later on the weekends, especially with close proximity to Croswell Opera House and Adrian Symphony for those post concert dinner people like the cast and pit orchestra, there is not a whole lot in Adrian open late, at least Sauce is. read more

My husband and I love Mexican food and have enjoyed it from Mexico to Michigan, including dozens of restaurants between Detroit's Mexican town and the area surrounding Ann Arbor. Detroit's and Adrian's are both very good, but very different from each other. A lot of places just use ground beef or plain chicken covered in Mexican dressings and various tortilla wrap methods. Food at The Grasshopper is seasoned nicely and made to order. Side dishes are as good as the entrees!!! The Grasshopper serves up delicious well flavored refried beans, and moist fresh well seasoned rice-not minute rice or converted rice but the real thing-as sides to many dinner selections. I had beef enchiladas made with well seasoned beef, and a topping of a cheese sauce...NOT drowned in plain melted cheese...they were delicious! My husband had steak fajitas which were tender and well seasoned. The salsa was just great! We choose extra hot and they also had mild and medium. Great. Delicious. And plenty are good descriptions of the salsa! We also ordered guacamole which was fresh and tasty! We consider this restaurant to be better than any other Mexican one In SE Michigan and drive 45 minutes to enjoy it. They are also open till 11:00 which is nice if you have a long drive to get there or have a meeting or sport beforehand. read more

Nothing special that I could not make at home and I am not much of a cook. I expected home made tortillas and chips but only the salsa seemed home made and it was too hot and no choice of a mild salsa. Plus it was liquid and not chunky. I ordered a combination plate and there was nothing on there that I particularly liked. I had a very weak strawberry margarita. I heard good things about this place but was disappointed. We were starving and did have to wait quite a while although the place was nearly empty. Only saw one waitress for lunch time. More like a bar that serves Mexican food than a restaraunt that serves drinks. read more

We went early Saturday night when it was starting to get busy. We were seated pretty quickly but it took awhile for the waitress to come over and take our drinks order. I just had ice water with lemon, which was clearly city water and quite gross. It also took awhile to get chips and salsa. The salsa is very smooth, almost like a sauce. Good flavor just wish there was some chunk to it. Chips were ok. We ordered ala carte items to try various things. The chicken enchiladas were great. The tacos were also very good. The pork tamale was small and pretty dry. The beef on our nachos was fantastic but the cheese was not good. It tasted like melted plastic..maybe it was Velveeta? We ended with the fried ice cream, which was alright. It just wasn't very crunchy like it should be. Our waitress was terribly slow and never brought us refills or even asked. These types of reviews can all sound the same and blend together like a nice top shelf margarita. I have been a connoisseur of this restaurant for nearly 30 years and have steered hundreds of people to this culinary delight. For those folks that are new to the area, passing through or heard from a friend that they just had to go the Grasshopper, here is a checklist of what qualifies the Grasshopper as a must stop: local hispanic's eating at this restaurant-check...a heavenly authentic smell wafting from the kitchen into the parking lot-check...real hispanic cooks in the kitchen-check...ingredients so fresh they taste like they were picked that morning-check...eating past your stomach's capacity-check... a cheese sauce so good that you take some home after dinner even though your belly is ready to burst-check...fast and friendly service-check. I have been on a life-long search for food that compares to the Grasshopper because I am sick of driving so far to have this food. Needless to say, it hasn't happened. Just stop by, order a beer, cup of cheese sauce, tacos, chalupas and give your tongue a culinary ride.
