50 style diner that stretches your buck and maximizes a good amount of food without hurting your wallet. Inside is super cute and the tables have a mini jukebox. My guy and I often explore San Fernando Ave with our dog. We have walked by countless times. This time, we decided to try them out. There are a few outdoor tables that were accommodating for the four-legged friend. We opted for the philly and the beef dip with fries. The fries were fresh and hot out of the fryer. 50's diners are my jam! I can't help but get nostalgic whenever I come across one (even though I'm 35)! The last time my wife and I were at The Great Grill, we were just starting to date (so it's been a while!). We came for breakfast and sat inside, but they also have a patio out front if you want some fresh air. My better half ordered the Eggs Benedict while I had the bacon Breakfast Burrito. The servers were friendly and attentive, always checking in on us to see if we needed anything. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and was good old fashioned diner greatness! There's a jukebox with a great selection of old gold - you can pick 3 songs to play for a quarter! There are two clean single person restrooms for ladies and gentlemen in the back. If you're in Burbank and want someplace fun that's slightly off the beaten path from the main downtown hub of activity, give The Great Grill a shot! Victor was a sweet server and very nice. The owner was talking very loudly to some customers visiting from various African countries from different Embassy's which was over the top. I think he was excited to see foreign visitors and tourists but it came across as weird and they ran outside to sit. My omelette was supposed to have chili on top but it barely had much and instead had a ton of tomatoes inside the omelette. I wasn't too impressed. Came here with a diner loving friend. We both love our rock and roll and the 50s aesthetic, so this place was calling our names. Really cute decor everywhere, from the mini jukeboxes at the tables to the ginormous records on the ceiling. We were sat at a booth near the front, which was a nice spot. Our server was friendly and we ordered pretty quickly. I had the veggie breakfast burrito, and she had a waffle with strawberries. My friend was looking for a well-cooked waffle and it got 5 stars from her. My breakfast burrito on the other hand was a big whomp whomp for me. Nope. 2 star burrito, if that. Potatoes inside were too moist and soft, and then more of those potatoes were served on the side. Ick. They need to be crispier and with more seasoning. Also the veggies inside were barely cooked, so they were still kind of crunchy, so the textures were all over the place. It had no flavor either. I couldn't even bring myself to finish it, which isn't normal for me. I'm usually like a vacuum when the food is good. I think if I had ordered some standard breakfast fare like pancakes, eggs, and sausage, it probably would have been fine. But in the vegetarian department, I'd look elsewhere. I was in the area and searched up breakfast spots, and just recently this restaurant got rated best breakfast in Burbank so i gave it a shot and im too stunned to speak, it was amazing, I got their pancakes and tried the omelette and it was so flavorful. I also tried their coffee and honestly the coffee was great as well! I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants good food and ambience. The service was excellent especially Aram! A nice diner experience. I remember why I had eaten here before! Same guy running the front as last time. Seat yourself, he will be right there. 50's Christmas music playing in the background, clean establishment. Coffee and water came out right away, took my order of ham and eggs. Quite a few regular customers that are known by name, I love that. Food came out quickly, bone in ham probably a half inch thick. Enjoyed the experience. Visited the great grill on Sunday in Burbank great prices good food nothing fancy old school 1950s vibe . vinyl records on the ceiling jute box in the center of the restaurant the little things on the table where you can put money in and choose song for the jukebox. daily specials affordable they even have a senior menu 55 and up Great service reminds you of just an old hometown restaurant that's been there for years. only reason why I'm not giving them five stars is two reasons.... I'm very picky about the bathrooms in restaurants. even though the bathroom was decorated nice kept with the old-school feel with the vinyl 45s on the wall etc. Had a weird smell in there. #2also they have raised everything on the menu up $2dollars which is not a big deal and I completely understand that ....... their prices are still more reasonable than most restaurant in the area. The thing is is that the server was telling everyone after they ordered their food about the price increase. It would be better service tell the people before ordering that everything is $2dollars more and take the time to change those prices on the menu or take the time to write it or tape it on the menu or they have a chalkboard outside with the specials write it out there but it comes off a little deceitful to tell people after they have ordered, by the way ......everything is $2 dollars more . other than that if you just want a good decent breakfast without all the frills this is a good place. The line was pretty constant the entire 2+ hours of our visit; however, they seem to have a steady flow in and out. The person at the counter who took our order was very friendly and she made appropriate recommendations when asked questions. I ordered the Biscuits and Gravy, which came with two eggs and a side. I ordered country potatoes as my side. Since I do not eat eggs, she was kind enough to replace my eggs with a side of fruit, which I enjoyed very much. To drink, I had the Peach Arnold Palmer. Everything was very good, and I had an excellent time. This is the definition of a great neighborhood restaurant, and I was very pleased -- until next time!

[PART 1 of 2] Tasteless Food (No Flavor) While Overpriced And Cheap On Portion Sizes I was prepared to give a 5 star review before even opening my bag once I got to my destination. I so very much wanted to give 5 stars and tell you why. But, because my reviews are always honest and detailed; I must keep that tradition of guiding consumers rightfully by keeping you honestly informed about where you choose to spend your money. 1. Before she put the order ticket in to the manager/cook Victor; told the cashier/waitress Aya (Ayouya, who initially presents herself as pleasant and kind) that I'm an avid review poster and will post a review on Google, TripAdvisor and Yelp. So you'd think that that alone would inspire them to do a great job let alone standard. Apparently not, though. 2. Since this was is my first time here and the two of them seemed so anxious to take an order in the empty restaurant; I skipped my norm (of checking out a menu) and instead went ahead and trusted the waitress/cashier suggestion. You'd think she'd know the menu before being allowed to begin her employment. I asked her what sandwiches they gave that have mushrooms or are mushrooms, and otherwise chicken and mushrooms (obviously usually or possibly or optionally along with onions, green peppers, pickles, tomatoes). She insisted that I order what she called the 'mushroom burger' and that it's her favorite. So I'm of course expecting to bite into a tall burger of only mushrooms, along with what they offer - onions, tomatoes, Swiss cheese, pickles. That the burger is mushrooms, like what other restaurants refer to them as, especially Vegan restaurants. 3. However, I get to my destination to open the bag and unfortunately find out that not only was I over-charged for a cooked sandwich and fries $17 after tax; but that I was also ripped off by the fries and sandwich having no taste whatsoever/no flavor/no seasonings in the sandwich, no salt in the fries - and by way of almost biting into something I have not eaten since January 2000.....beef/s tortured murdered Cow (a beef patty). Because I was hungry I went ahead and ate the fries and the soggy bread and the VERY minimal amount of (barely there) mushrooms and onions. So disappointing, saddening, frustrating, confusing, insulting - to describe the least. 4. I save the party to take back and have them compensate me in some way. I call in advance the next day. Victor should have executed proper professional caring ethical customer service - by offering recompense via another item from the menu such as the Philly cheese steak sandwich with fries but the one they have with chicken instead (which is what Aya should have informed me of yesterday), or by offering me my full refund, and, by apologizing to me on Aya's behalf (since she claimed that she eats this sandwich often and that it's her favorite, she should not have suggested let alone insisted it to me since she knew it had beef and I specifically requested chicken or only mushrooms as the 'burger'). 5. He instead told me that they don't have sandwiches that are chicken with mushrooms; when I suggested one as a recompense. And he did not apologize, nor offer me anything else, he did not offer to refund me, he did not respond at the top of the phone call when I suggested an order of mozzarella sticks. He presented as though he did not know his own menu and did not suggest/offer me anything. He told me he was busy with customers; as if I too am not a customer and as if he couldn't let someone else answer the phone or or offer to call me back. I told him I could not travel all the way back there until sometime after 6pm. He told me he leaves at 6pm. So I had to adjust my time/agenda/schedule etc etc etc; to accomodate him since he oddly chose not to accomodate his customer. Wow. 6. He heard me and talking, upon my arrival, as she was sitting at the booth nearest the open kitchen rating the exact burger she mislead me about. However, he did not come out to acknowledge me not at any point did he apologize to me. Not even after Aya offered me the exact same sandwich from yesterday but with chicken instead of beef patty, and she offered me fries; and he only prepared and gave her to hand to me no fries and a sandwich so small it had a little bit more mushrooms, had onions, had a tomato. It was missing the swiss cheese, pickles and taste/flavor. It had a chicken breast in the middle of it instead of the size of or wider than the buns - that's how tiny the chicken was that he egregiously chose to insult me with. And Says did not bother informing me of anything that it was missing; she instead began acting funny and fake. Quite unprofessional of the both of them; and to a customer who was STILL willing to give them a 5 star review if they had made the wrongs, right. A True Burbank Classic -- Great Food, Great Service & an Awesome 1950s Diner Experience! I absolutely love discovering local businesses that still have personality, character, and genuine hospitality, and The Great Grill - Back to the 50's is exactly that kind of place. I stopped in for breakfast and ordered the breakfast burrito with crispy breakfast potatoes, and WOW... everything was delicious! The burrito was packed with flavor, generously filled, perfectly toasted, and the potatoes were crispy and seasoned just right. Definitely the kind of breakfast that makes you sit back afterward and think, "That was GOOD!" But honestly, the food is only part of why I enjoyed this place so much. The 1950s diner atmosphere is fantastic. The retro décor, classic diner aesthetic, chrome details, vintage touches, background music, and especially the working tabletop jukebox make the entire restaurant feel like you've stepped into another era. And then there's the service. Friendly. Welcoming. Attentive. Genuine. The owner is awesome and you can tell there's real pride in this restaurant. The place was also spotlessly clean, which is something I really appreciate when dining out. There are plenty of places where you can grab breakfast. What makes The Great Grill different is that you're getting great food + great service + a memorable experience all in one. Ambiance: Stellar... a whole vinyl dedicated to the diner is supersized and on the ceiling if you look up. The jukebox works and has plenty selections (is a wonderful blast to the past) and each table has a little old-fashioned jukebox radio thing. Frosted glass, posters, records, and lighting really made the experience very immersive. Food: Wonderful (for Sam and Carol). Portion size wasn't ridiculous and filled us up anyway. We got French toast and pancakes and they were both warm, semi-sweet (French toast was sweeter), and tasted wonderful with the butter and syrup (syrup was in a tiny ladle, cute!). Very homey, Carol says it's very grandma in the kitchen esque. Milkshake was awesome, we got an oreo one, and it wasn't too sweet or overloaded; just simple and sweet. I wish there was a maraschino cherry, though. Eggs were well cooked. You get seasoning and whatnot. Service: Wait was nothing, though it probably helps that we were there early-ish on a Monday. We were there for an hour and when we were done, there were so many more tables open! Our waiter, who I was assuming was also the owner, was really cool and on it. Very professional and nice. Has to be the best wings I've had in a long time. After I placed my order I was like damn, forgot to tell them I want my wings cooked well done. Usually if you don't tell the restaurant you want them well done you'll get some almost still bleeding chicken wings. But to my surprise the wings were cooked exceptionally well, almost perfect! I ordered garlic, lemon pepper and the mild wings....5 stars!!! On another note the delivery driver was their best salesman, really cool guy. Even before I ate the wings he prepped me that they were going to be good, obviously heard that before. But I must say he's right! I'm ordering again, definitely try this place if your a wing fan. I ordered a chicken salad...good. Fried Zucchini...good. Chili...I haven't ate yet but I'll update when I do. Long story short if the wings are an indication of what the cook can whip up, this should be a good choice to dine at or get delivered. When someone without an obvious disability enters a business with a clearly marked service dog, that business is legally permitted by the ADA to ask only two questions. Neither of those questions are "Hey no dogs allowed!" followed by "Ok but you have to sit outside" when informed that the dog is a service dog. However, when me, my girlfriend, and my service dog entered The Great Grill, this is how we were horrifically greeted. The employee who greeted us this way then proceeded to hover behind our server staring st me and my dog, insisting that he was just supervising the server on her first day (in the creepiest and most ableist way possible). It was a thoroughly miserable experience and we will not be returning. Recently I placed an online order with a good friend and to cut to the chase......when I order a hot meal I expect it to be hot.....it wasn't. Besides having stone cold food it took forever to receive my food THAT WAS PLACED AHEAD OF TIME ONLINE! Maybe I ask for too much but if I placed an order ahead of time I would expect my food to be ready by the agreed time and prepared as it should be. If that wasn't bad enough, my friend has been receiving calls since she put up a bad yelp review. Stumbled across this gem on a walk from my hotel to coffee bean. Ended up coming back to try the food. They had a advertisement for a breakfast outside on my walk, but when we returned it was already lunch time. We talked to them and they said they would honor the breakfast special. We, three of my friend and I, have been this place and to me it was just okay (average); same comment came from all of my friends. We are fond of eating foods at a relaxed mode and foods here, burgers and fries, are not so special. The price was also little higher than we usually have outside. I just moved to burbank and this is my new go-to breakfast spot! You can't beat the prices and the portions. The breakfast is traditional and delicious. Everything is always cooked perfectly and the staff is super friendly. It's in the heart of downtown and has a great 50s vibe with little jukeboxes on the tables. Definitely come here for a no-frills, hearty breakfast for a great price. read more

Valerie came to say hello and get us started on beverages. After gazing through the menu I noticed the tostadas salad. I checked to see if they make their own shells and hearing yes, I ordered that. I appreciated that the shell wasn't loaded with wet iceberg lettuce. Instead, a highly nutritious load of DRY Spring Mix greens was the base. The salad was topped with a spoonful each of refried beans, sour cream, guacamole, grilled chicken (3-4oz), some chopped tomatoes, sliced red onions and finely grated cheese completed the array. A side of salsa accompanied the tostada. The salad was fresh and good, but the shell was a bit too greasy. I still ate the whole thing, so it definitely wasn't bad. Hubs went with bacon and eggs over easy with french fries as his "potato", buttered toast and coffee. He thought everything was delicious. Inside looks like the coffee house of the 70s/80s. Comfortable and familiar. Indeed, many people dining seemed to be regulars, sharing stories and family health updates . The staff never hurried anyone along and all in all it was a relaxing lunch. Prices seem on par with other restaurants. Lots of free parking in their own lot. Hopefully we won't wait another 4 years before we return again. Cheers! "CC"
