I've only come here for breakfast, but it is very very good. My go-to is the egg and smoked gouda sandwich with bacon on a biscuit. I am a huge biscuit fan and very picky about quality, and these are SO good. Flaky on the outside, just a bit doughy inside. They also have cold brew and espresso drinks, and make their own flavored syrups. The staff is super friendly and personable. The only drawback is that service can be slow in the mornings, either because of the number of people waiting for orders, or because most of the staff is tied up prepping catering orders. So only go in if you have a bit of time, but it is worth it. read more

Enjoyed a delightful lunch at the Green Bee! I ordered in Ritual, as Green Bee was one of their promotional restaurants and had some great deals. After scanning other reviews, I went with the fried chicken sandwich, which was delicious! Fresh bread, crispy (not greasy) chicken, and a delightful coleslaw made for a treat! No. Just no. I forgot my lunch at home this morning. And because it's freezing cold and overcast, the deli next to my building was packed. So I decided to run across the street and try out Green Bee. I ordered a Classic Cob Salad, then noticed their soup of the day included Butternut Squash soup, my favorite, so I order a cup of that too. I get to the cashier and he says: Your total is $17.60. Excuse me? If I wanted to spend $20 on lunch I would have gone to a sitdown restaurant. Seriously, I've had lunch at Smith & Wollensky for cheaper. How is a cup of soup more expensive than liquor? IDK. So, I sulk out the place feeling like I'd been robbed. And as I walk into my building my co-worker walks in at the same time with a cobb salad from the deli. I asked her how much it was $7.99. Now I'm appalled. As I slink back to my desk ashamed, I tell myself, this is gonna be the best soup and salad ever! Well nah. It fell flat. The soup was too sweet and the salad was blah (the chicken was cold and bland and the vinaigrette was nothing special). They need to analyze their competition. There is not a single restaurant with prices that high on a lunch menu in a 3-4 block radius. Not even the upscale dining places... Plus, every restaurant in that location has failed, including really great ones with reasonable prices. This is place is mediocre at best and insanely overpriced. It's totally not gonna make it. Plus, the other reviews look totally sketchy. I walk past there every evening and have never seen anyone partaking in these "great" happy hour specials. read more

So I have worked across the street from this little gem for almost 2 years and I'm just finding it. I've been here 3 or 4 times now and always delicious! Today it was the crab and corn chowder with a Greek salad. The chowder was thick but not to thick. You could actually see and taste the lump crabmeat. The right mix of crab, cornand potatoes. Simply to die for!! The salad was fresh. The feta was good not to over powering. I ordered thru Ritual and my order was ready when I got there. WINNING!!! read more

I would really *like* to like this place, since it is directly next door to my office...but, I just can't. I went in the other morning for a nitro cold brew coffee, what I got was a teensy-tiny cup (think: much smaller than a tall at Starbucks) of some mediocre-tasting nitro cold brew for $4.40. No. way. Honestly, I prefer shopping local when I can, but I just can't justify the pricing here. I've gone one other time for breakfast and it was fine, but nothing to rave about. read more

So, the food here is incredible! Their french fries are delicious, and the sandwiches are flavorful. I've had their turkey BLT sandwich multiple times, and the roast beef sandwich isn't bad either. Many of my co-workers love their cuban sandwich as well as their fried chicken sandwich. The unfortunate downside is that the wait here can be a bit long. It's definitely not a quick lunch option as you're waiting 10-15 minutes for your sandwich to get made. But, you get rewarded with a freshly made sandwich with quality ingredients. Forgot to take a picture of my food but I really enjoyed my grilled catfish sandwich and bites of my co-workers buttermilk fried chicken. And the portions were huge- definitely enough for lunch and dinner. The grilled catfish was nicely seasoned and wasn't overly fishy tasting as some catfish could be. Total was $13ish with no drink which is a bit pricier than other places but they do bring out silverware for you when you dine in house. Service was super friendly- will be back! read more

I stop in for breakfast a few times a week - the food is absolutely delicious and they have such good specials! $5 for a huge breakfast sandwich & home fries is kinda unbelievable in DC, which only helps make the Green Bee my fave breakfast spot! I visited the Green Bee Cafe with a group during the Nightmare on M Street Halloween bar hopping event in Oct 2016. I'm not sure that I would call this cafe a bar at all and was surprised it was part of the bar hopping event. It was probably the fourth stop on our bar hopping adventure and we got jello shots from there. The jello shots were disappointing and my jello was super tough and congealed. Eww... I'm not sure how the food is at this cafe, as I didn't eat anything, but it's hard to say whether I'd return, given how horrible that jello shot was. I do have to say that at least the service was friendly and the cafe was clean with plenty of places to sit. read more

This is just another one of those overpriced lunch-break places downtown. It's fine but definitely not worth the 9.5 dollars you pay for it. The chicken was dry and they put too much on the ciabatta and not enough tomato or pesto. It was basically a chicken and ciabatta sandwich with the thinnest later of pesto sauce.The tomatoes were a bid sad looking and I kept having to slide them back onto the sandwich to make them more centralized. For flavor. It's for the flavor. The fries were probably the sole highlight as I could tell they were higher quality fries and this place is STACKED with condiments so your fries are never lonely. read more

I love Green Bee. Not only are the staff personable, they'll remember your face when you next come in. All the food I have eaten here has been top notch. My favorites include the tomato soup, any salad with homemade dressing, and the mushroom ragu. On top of that this place is so reasonably priced (in comparison to DC). My go-to breakfast is bagel and a coffee for $3. Did I mention they carry Bullfrog Bagels? I'm a happy lady when I eat here and I couldn't recommend it more. read more

Stopped in for lunch. I had the tortilla soup with 1/2 ham and cheese sandwich. The soup was absolutely delicious! As was the sandwich! I wanted to try one of their biscuits. I asked if they had any left from breakfast. The biscuit was amazing! The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. You order and then have a seat. They bring your food out to you. I am happy that I ran into this restaurant during one of my lunch breaks, and I have been there a second time since then. The atmosphere is quiet and low-key. The customer service is great and the cashier was very helpful, even while being new there. The first time I had the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich with fries and it was amazing, although the portion was large I ate the entire thing. The second visit, I had the half pesto chicken sandwich and Caesar salad which both had great flavor and again was generously portioned. I'm sure I will be a regular here. read more

This is one of my favorite spots for lunch! I have been coming here for the past 6 months, and the quality of their food is consistent throughout the seasons. I think the prices are a steal for their generous serving sizes, and the variety in the menu makes revisiting worthwhile. My team and I came here for lunch last week. We all ordered the same thing...chicken sandwiches with the coleslaw on top. I expected it not to be that good, since I'm not a fan of coleslaw, but it turned out to be delicious! The coleslaw topping made the chicken sandwich taste a lot less dry. The side of fries was good too. The customer service was excellent, and the employees didn't get annoyed when we asked them for ketchup, vinegar, take-out bags, etc. Green Bee also has a free lemon water station, which I REALLY enjoyed. The ambiance was comfortable and dim-lit. I will definitely come back here, more than likely to try the tomato and basil wrap. read more

Stopped by for the 1st time today after seeing their chalkboard out front for a polyface farm egg and sausage sandwich. I had it on a bullfrog bagel - everything about the sandwich is delicious, and it was served with a side of home fries for $5.50 including tax - a good deal. I can't say enough good about Green Bee! I'm from CT, and my manager was having a team meeting in DC so I was on the hunt for breakfast and lunch catering. I came across Green Bee - the menu looked delicious and it did not disappoint! Food was delivered timely (even early!), and it was delicious! I have a vegan in my group and I'm very happy that they have vegan options on the menu! The fruit salad was fresh, and the breakfast pastries were homemade. I just laid out the lunch spread - a combo of sandwiches, the whole wheat pasta salad with roasted veggies, and a Caesar salad. I can't wait to dive in! I'd definitely recommend this place and would use again in a heartbeat if business brings me back. read more

Green Bee is great and is always my go to when I am undecided. They have homemade soups that you can sample which is a big plus to me. I almost always get the chicken salad on a wrap with butternut squash soup. $11 for both and I always have left overs. I would recommend the pesto pasta chicken salad. Its on the heavier side but so worth it on cheat day. I would actually give this place a 5 but sometimes I have to wait a really long for my food. They can get pretty busy. read more

It is always delivered early, the presentation is beautiful, the food is fresh and tasty. I like how they give a variety of sandwiches on different breads each time. Oh Green Bee. Where do I start? I would like to give one star due to how the café is managed. It is not good. I gave it three stars however because the food is fantastic, when they actually have it. The squash soup and the pumpkin pie yogurt parfait are literally some of the best things I have ever eaten. I REALLY would like the recipe for the pumpkin puree. Not because I would not be perfectly content to buy it from Green Bee everyday, but because they NEVER actually have it available. Today I had a very disappointing experience and I am seriously thinking to never try again because frankly I just can't take the disappointment in the morning. Breakfast is too important for that. Yesterday, the Green Bee told me that they would have their amazing pumpkin pie parfait today. I literally walked into their door as they were opening this morning. Low and behold, at 5 minutes to 8:00 this morning, they were already sold out. OK, disappointed but kind of expected it. Fine. Let me have the very ordinary oatmeal. Response from Green Bee, "Oh, we don't have any oatmeal left." WTF? Seriously, get it together Green Bee. You don't start your day this way. What is clear to me is that they are really only focused on their catering business and don't really give a care about the walk in customer. My advice to you Green Bee. 1) Save your money and close down your prime location downtown spot. It is really useless to us walk-ins since you don't stock enough food for us to enjoy. 2) Remove your standard menu board. This is also useless and just raises my expectations and ultimately ends in me being greatly annoyed that you cannot sell me what I want. The place has decent food but it has a few quirks that make it less enjoyable than it should be. It is like the place opened up before enough thought was given to it. The set-up seems strange. Half of the people who came in walked leftt to the register and the other half walked right towards the menu and food prep bar. It still isn't clear to me what makes more sense. So everyone is left wondering who is next. And the people waiting for food do so at the same place people wait to order. I ordered the pick two of sandwich, soup, and salad but found out upon ordering that it inexplicably doesn't include the Greek salad. The house salad has dried fruit and walnuts with greens - not what I was hoping for when I settled on the house salad. I don't think allowing someone to have the Greek salad in addition to the house or Caesar would drastically eat into their margins. My wife ordered the 3 salad combo which is also unnecessarily a predetermined mix. Having said all of that, the food was good. read more

Once again, The Green Bee Cafe and their 20th St crew exceed expectations! There has never been one item on their menu that I have not appreciated. The freshness, the attention to detail, the happy faces are so terrific. Today I ran to grab a couple of chicken Caesar salads for some folks in a working lunch meeting. Just opening the salad brought Ohs! and Ahs! with the abundance of mixed greens, moist large chicken slices and the artful arrangement. The manager is amazing, by the way! I've eaten here a few times between dining in and getting catering at our office. I want to love this place. Everyone who works here is so nice. I think they use good quality ingredients and make a lot of stuff in house, but the meat is always so terribly dry and a lot of the food is very bland. For the price, they really need to put out tastier food. The breakfast options seem more like entrees (i.e., you can get an egg sandwich, but it comes with a side) and I think downtown is more like a takeout sandwich kind of area than a sitdown to a breakfast meal area. read more

I was a little bit taken aback by the price, $5.50, since I was expecting your run-of-the-mill rubbery yellow patty on a bagel. When I opened the box I completely understood the price - this is essentially an omelette (real eggs! freshly cooked!) on a bagel. It tasted delicious and will probably tide me over through lunch. I also didn't mind the virtuous feeling that comes from eating at a locally owned shop that sources much of its ingredients from nearby farms. read more
