I can't fathom any of the good reviews here. This is the worst Thai food ever. Tastes like dog food.

The food is good. Presentation is good and taste is good. Waiters are nice and responsive. Prices are above average for a noodle place and portions were of average size. My hubby and I definitely didn't leave hungry but we also finished every single sliver of food off our plate! I like how Pittsburgh has a huge variety of Thai restaurants. read more

This is your everyday average Thai restaurant that's around the corner. The food is good with an extensive menu and take out is fast and prompt. The in house dining is also good with friendly servers and fast service. I had the spring rolls which were crispy but tasted like the came from a frozen box. I've been here a number of times and never been disappointed. The panang curry is delicious, very creamy and flavorful. The red and green curries are also pretty good. My husband and I recently enjoyed dinner at The Green Mango, but I was so tempted to return today as I drove by! We had previously frequented the Regent Square location but tried this location for the first time last weekend. It was a cold and rainy night, so I risked trying the unknown for the sake of easier parking. I was delighted to be greeted by an employee that I often see in Regent Square, so I immediately felt at home. I absolutely love The Green Mango's Chicken Pad Thai and Phuket Pineapple Fried Rice. Both entrees are equally delicious, but I generally go for the Pad Thai since it's such a comfort food. I've tried Pad Thais at other restaurants in the city and in Florida (where I'm from), but The Green Mango's is by far my favorite. Needless to say, it's a great restaurant, and I recommend trying any of their locations. We dine at The Green Mango about once/month, so I'm sure I'll be dining there again sometime soon!! read more

While we are usually Nicky's Thai fans when we are craving Thai food, I had heard that Green Mango was good and wanted to give it a try. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with what I had! For appetizers we had the Spring Rolls and Beef Somosa's. Spring Rolls were pretty good and I really liked the flavor of the Beef Somosa's. They had curry in them, along with peas and carrots, an interesting and flavorful combo. For entrees we had Drunken Noodles, Beef Pad Thai and I had the Pineapple Curry...it was amazing. The curry had just the right amount of heat and the coconut milk broth was so delicious. I would highly recommend that and will definitely be back to get it! Both the Drunken Noodles and Beef Pad Thai were also very tasty. While I still favor the atmosphere and overall experience of Nicky's more than The Green Mango, I will definitely be back when I am craving some Thai and want to stay local in the Monroeville area. read more

My mom and I ate here for dinner today. We don't usually eat Thai food, but we really enjoyed our dinner! The service was attentive and efficient, and our food was delicious. I ordered the spicy basil tofu and my mom ordered the rad na noodles. We also ordered the spring rolls. The flavor for all of it was great, but I especially loved my entree. Nice, laid-back restaurant with good food in a basic strip mall. It is sandwiched between a microbrewery and a Starbucks, but aren't the hidden gems always in strip malls? Food was good and filling. The waitress was attentive when she needed to be and unobtrusive otherwise. We all had a hard time selecting from the fairly extensive menu but eventually decided on a chicken pad thai, a green curry with chicken, and a tofu dish with eggplant and bell peppers (it appears the menu on the website is a bit out-of-date). Food arrived promptly. Other reviews had mentioned that the tofu is made in house; whether it is or not, it was really good, crispy on the outside and light as air. I didn't think there was quite enough eggplant, but I could eat eggplant all day every day so that isn't saying much. Another review had mentioned that the fish sauce was overpowering in the pad thai, but aside from the first bite, it was reported that it was not noticeable. The green curry also went over well, but the spring rolls were not the best I've ever had - the outside was a little too thick and the filling a little sparse. Thai iced teas were pretty good. My only gripe was that the appetizers seemed pricey. I wondered how many they were meant to serve - a 6-piece order of samosas, for example, might be great for a group of friends out on the town, but for the suburban strip-mall atmosphere, it seems like it would make more sense to pare down the size and price accordingly, as the biggest group I saw at the restaurant was a family of four. Overall, I enjoyed the restaurant and while I may not return to this specific location, I will probably check out the Regent's Square location. My lady and I stopped at this restaurant after finding that our intended destination in Monroeville closed for renovations. The reviews on Yelp were good so we figured why not stop here since we were so close. The prices here were fair for lunch and I definitely didn't feel like we over payed. I'm no expert on Thai, but this wasn't my first Thai rodeo either. Their spring rolls were terrific and the sauce that came with them, which they say is an in house recipe, was good as well. I ordered the drunken noodles with chicken and I liked it, but at the same time wish I ordered something else on the menu that I may have liked more. It was good, but it certainly didn't live up to the shining reviews I had read just ten minutes earlier. I didn't see the actual dinner menu, but I'm assuming that it's laid out the same way it is on their website, which was organized by type of dish. Unfortunately their lunch menu could really use some revamping in terms of how it is laid out. The descriptions are nice, but there seems to be no order to the way they're listed. It's just a bunch of entrees thrown onto a piece of laminated paper. It's not a huge deal, but after seeing their website and then being handed a menu that looked like it was from a completely different restaurant was a little odd. If I were stuck in Monroeville for some reason and someone told me I had to eat at the mall food court or The Green Mango, I'd probably choose The Green Mango, but if I were at home and given the option of a ten minute drive to McDonalds or the hour trip to The Green Mango, I'd order a couple McChicken sandwiches and a small fry. Because I feel it's worth noting, The Green Mango does not serve alcohol, but BYOB is fine and there is no corking fee. read more

I tried to give this place a second (actually, third) chance but it just won't happen again. The employees weren't friendly but they weren't mean either. I felt like a burden to them. They were not busy but still acted like we were the least of their worries. The food came out quickly but did not have the Thai taste like other places. I was a little disappointed. The waitresses were really nice, but the lemongrass chicken was bland. It didn't have that comforting coconut flavoring that I adore about Thai food. Weird experience. Won't be back. We spoke to the owner who suggested we sit at a table outside. We took it in turns to use the restroom but still the owner was chatting with other customers and hadn't brought menus. We waited more. Then we waited a bit more and still he was standing 10 feet away from us chatting with other customers! We started to get annoyed. We thought that if we got up maybe he'd rush over and apologise, but no! He still kept chatting to the two custmers as we got into our nearby car and drove away! We went to Teerak in indiana instead. This is my go-to Thai restaurant. It is reasonably priced and my family of four can eat for around $45 with tip. We seem to order the same dishes every time we go. Chicken satay for the kids -they love it and it is always perfectly cooked (not chewy or tough). Yellow curry for us - a really solid choice, they have a achieved a balance between rich/creamy and spice that several other Thai restaurants have not. Lastly, we usually get an order of Thai fried rice or Pad Thai for everyone to share. Both are good choices and can be made with your choice of meat or veggies. The portion sizes are on the large size and we always have left overs. This isn't the best Thai food that I have ever tried, but it is good enough for me to keep coming back for more. read more

I've been to this place twice. I had the beef satay which I thought was pretty decent. I also had the basil fried rice which was decent and the pineapple rice which was very good. My mom went with me and had the shrimp basil. The dish advertised eggplant which was scarce and had a price that was undercooked. The shrimp was bland. It basically was a fish that consisted mostly of green peppers and several overlooked shrimp scattered here and there. It had more green peppers than anything. The atmosphere is pleasant. Not too bright or too drab. The biggest downfall outside of the basil shrimp is the wait staff. They aren't rude, but they seem disinterested in doing their job. It's hard to get a server to refill a drink, and they just seem like they'd rather be doing anything else. I may come back again, but it'll likely not be my idea. read more

My friend and I were seated in an awkward corner and waited on by two people who both seemed distracted if not completely disinterested in us. Unfortunately the Thai spring rolls were fairly boring and I've had much better chicken satay with peanut sauce elsewhere. I was really surprised by the drunken noodles. It was as if someone spilled a whole bunch of red pepper flakes all over the dish. I knew it was supposed to be hot, but I didn't expect to be choking on the dish. I was constantly crunching down on red pepper flakes. I feel like the dish could have been reasonably tasty if I could have tasted anything other than fire. Considering the lack of mom n pop restaurants in the area, the green mango is a decent place to satisfy your Thai food cravings. The place is moderately clean, ambience decent and service passable. I have tried their pad thai, fried rice, panang and green curries. The pad thai isn't in the top 5 pad thais I have had and the curries are high on chilles but low on overall flavor. That being said, I will probably come back when I can't make a hike to squirrel hill for Thai food. read more

This is really some of the best Thai you can find in Pittsburgh. The food is consistently top notch and it's reasonably priced. The service is excellent and very consistent. I almost always order the Tofu Pad Thai because it's fantastic, but the Jasmine Fried Rice is also very good and the spring rolls are some of my favorites that I've had anywhere. This restaurant seems to do more take out business than eat in, so there's very rarely a wait for a table. Definitely worth stopping by! read more

I've been here multiple times. To name some of what I've tried: the peanut satay chicken appetizer, pineapple fried rice, green curry, pad thai and I'm sure others. They have a lot on their menu, so I'd love to try some new things in the future. I've tried a bite of some other dishes, and they have the potential to be very spicy! So if you aren't a fan of spicy heat, be cautious. It's always been very good! I think my favorite is the pineapple fried rice - it has delicious flavor. You want to eat all of it! Worst Thai food I've ever had. Spring rolls were good. Pad Prick chicken was inedible. Absolutely the worst thing I've had in a LONG time. It tasted like they poured salt all over it. Rather than being spicy, it was pure salt. My friend had pad Thai with shrimp and it was the opposite- bland and didn't taste at all like pad Thai. Would not return ever. read more

Was in the area traveling for business and needed something quick and close to the hotel. So I open yelp and spot this place. Despite it being close to closing time they took my order with no attitude which was appreciated. I wouldn't say they were overly friendly but they were professional and got my to go order together quickly. On to the food...spring rolls/yellow curry/sticky rice/Thai tea. The spring rolls were yummy but I did not care for my yellow curry. There was a decent amount of shrimp but the curry itself seemed watery and kinda bland; definitely not what I am used to from Thai food. I ended up just picking out the shrimp and eating the rice. I visit The Green Mango whenever possible. I typically arrive for the lunch rush around noon. I don't go there for the atmosphere which is why I only gave them 4 stars. The seating is a bit strange and there isn't much feng shui going on there either. Don't let the atmosphere or even the look of their website (which needs a lot of help) keep you away. The food is why I keep going back. I've had quite a few items off the menu: paradise shrimp, green curry chicken, red curry chicken, pad thai, chicken satay, chicken teriyaki, spicy king chicken, and the lemongrass (Tom Yum) soup. My favorite dish is the green curry chicken. Maybe it's the spiciness of the dish that I love so much. The chicken and vegetables are always cooked perfectly and the green curry shines through to make this dish extra special. My mouth is watering as I'm thinking about it right now. There is plenty of food on this plate, if I end up finishing it in one sitting it's a tad too much so plan to take some home with you and it heats up well in the microwave. The chicken satay is my favorite appetizer. The chicken on the stick is always good, sometimes a little dry but still very good. The satay (peanut sauce) is the star of this appetizer and it is finger licking good. I bought some satay in the jar at the supermarket and it's not even close to The Green Mango's sauce. I can't wait to get back there to try something new. We tried the Asian Cafe near Atria's and it was a let down compared to The Green Mango. read more

Doesn't the name just scream awesome? (Yes, Cate, it does.) I'm a huge fan of The Green Mango not only because of the name but because both the food and service are equally wonderful. I ordered the Satay for an appetizer, Chicken Pad Thai for my main dish, and a Thai Iced Tea for my beverage. Everything tasted wonderful. I've been to enough Thai restaurants to know what's good. My waiter made sure I was taken care of and was helpful with recommendations. I was full at the end of my meal but wanted seconds mainly so I could experience goodness all over again. Stopped here for take out during lunch on a weekend. It was a little further from the highway on this road trip than the map led me to believe, but worth the detour. Had chicken pad thai, the usual for a new thai place. The grilled chicken was a nice touch, different than the traditional but still good, and the amount of meat was generous.
