So this was my first time here. I ordered the vegetarian curry tofu and rice $8.50. There was a surcharge for brown rice $2.50. I guess everyone wants white rice. The curry sauce was so flavorful and rich I really enjoyed it. The tofu was a bit slimy and chewy but I can't say that I'm a big tofu either so I'm not sure if that is the natural texture or not however, the atmosphere was nice and cool with the exception of the owner's daughter running around in the restaurant along with talking to the gentleman who l guess obviously is a a regular nonetheless I was alone so it wasn't as bothersome. My family found this restaurant about 10 years ago. Ever since then, we've been back most weekends. We have tried various dishes here including the laksa noodles, pineapple fried rice, yellow curry, drunken noodles, and moo dang, all which are excellent. Every single time we come we order the tom yum soup, which we have yet to find a good replacement for in any other restaurant. Over the past 10 years, we've got to know the servers and seen the location change 3 times. We are moving to another state, and we visited the Green Mango for what will probably be our last time. This restaurant will be one of the things we miss the most in Pittsburgh. read more

I'm not a Thai food expert, but I love their food. Most recently had the yellow curry and pad thai. Both were very yummy. Nice portions and just the right amount of heat at their normal setting. Not too much, not too little, just right. The place lacks of ambiance and personality even, therefore the four stars, but I will be a regular regardless. read more

Went here for the first time without realizing that they had moved around the corner and into a small portion of the plaza. It was takeout only, and only offered dinner prices on the weekend. We ordered Pad Thai, which was pretty good, and I thought we ordered sides of steamed vegetable rice but only got steamed vegetables, which was broccoli, carrots, cabbage & green beans. While the Pad Thai was tasty enough, I don't know if it was good enough to bring us back again. I love the Green mango. I like this location just as much as the Regent Square location and since they are in a little shopping center it's easier to park and there's a Starbucks next door for a little after dinner latte or coffee. Their Pineapple curry is the bomb and I can barely bring myself to order anything else because I love it so much. My wife loves their Pad Thai which is slightly sweet and nothing short of amazing. Their Spring Rolls are delicious as well as pretty much any of their appetizers, I have yet to have a bad one. I live in Monroeville and The Green Mango is one of my favorite places in the area. On my last visit (yesterday), we got the Lemongrass (Tom Yum) soup, Spicy Red Curry Chicken and Glass Noodle Salad. All were amazing, especially on a cold winter day. The server was also excellent - she recommended the Lemongrass soup WITHOUT the coconut milk for extra spice. I am still a little bit under the weather and that stuff was like a healing potion that packed a good amount of spice and heat. This is one of my favorite "ethnic" Pittsburgh restaurants. The waitstaff are always pleasant and quick. They have several appetizers, such as spring and summer rolls, fried tofu with peanut sauce, and satay. My friends and I usually get one to share before moving on to the main course. If I'm in a hurry or not very hungry, I simply order the delicious Tom Kha (soup with coconut milk) with shrimp and a side of rice. It is cheap and is fantastic if you have a cold. Some of my favorite dinner entrees are the tofu Lak Sa (a noodle dish with yellow curry and coconut milk), the pumpkin curry with beef, and the drunken noodles. All are flavorful, reasonably priced, and large servings! I always take something home. A word of caution, thai food can be spicy so order carefully if you get heartburn. The Green Mango has a nice selection of teas that they serve to you in an individual pot at your table. Their smoothies are also very good! read more

I don't understand the great reviews. The food wasn't good & the neither was the price. Fried spring rolls: They are tiny and very bland with filling that's non-existent. The sweet & sour sauce also had no flavor - it seemed watered down. Tofu mango salad: I was excited for a fresh & flavorful salad, but this also tasted bland. I didn't taste lime or spice in the dressing. The tofu seemed crusty & old. I barely got halfway through it & had to throw the rest out, because it tasted "off". I'm not sure how exactly to gives stars. My entire family ate here on New Year's Eve (12/31) around 5:00. We enjoyed fried tofu, spring rolls, and summer rolls for appetizers. Dinners ran the gambit from drunken noodles to tofu rad prik. Everything was good- not Pusadee's Garden, but good. Exactly 36 hours later, my entire family (including my 11 month old son) came down with some rotavirus. It was a worship your bucket between your knees kind of day. For 3 days after, no one could eat anything. We are only just recovered. Now, I understand that we could have picked that virus up anywhere. But, our only commonality was The Green Mango. 5 adults and one 11 month old were very sick. I'll go back. I just won't be back for a while... read more

Good Thai fast-food, but skimpy portions - at least at lunch. For an extra three dollars, I only received four pieces of shrimp. The noodles seemed heavy and soggy. My food came out about three minutes after I ordered during a fairly busy lunch hour -- which makes me think that the pre-cooked noodles get covered in pre-made sauce and sent out the door. Best Thai food around! I've been to this location as well as the Braddock Avenue location multiple times, as well as various other Thai restaurants in and around Pittsburgh. I'm always trying to get that perfect dish, the one that compares to the chicken basil at Green Mango! Some of my favorite dishes include: summer rolls (I always ask for spicy sauce, not the sweet one served with it), green curry with chicken, chicken basil, chang mei noodles, basil fried rice, drunken noodles, lemongrass soup, ginger tea--actually, I've never had a meal I didn't love. Neither has my family! The only complaint I have is that when they are swamped the food may arrive at various times (2 dishes, then 5 minutes later 3 dishes). They insisted numerous times I take something home and despite saying no they kept insisting on a dish, and then CHARGED me for it. I don't recommend going, and I won't be back. read more

I'm a fan of Thai food so my family and I decided to try this place. It's close to home and we reviewed the menu before our visit. We ordered Spring rolls, Pad Thai and the Pataya Chicken Noodle soup. The spring rolls came out fast and hot. Both the rolls and dipping sauce was bland. The only taste was of fried rice paper. We ate them anyway... The pad Thai was average at best. This place isn't too shabby for Thai food in the Monroeville area. It's not fine dining or elegant by any means, but it does give you reasonable portions and is a good spot to stop for lunch. The day before going here, I went to the Smiling Banana Leaf, and because of it, i needed to find a Thai restaurant near my house. That is when I found the Green Mango. I am a fan, but it did not compare to the Smiling Banana Leaf. First off, there was no peanut sauce, which disappointed me. However, the food was very good. I got the seafood delight, and it was a decent portion and was very good. It was very dead when I went, but it seems like a place that could get hopping on a Friday night. Solid Thai food for Pittsburgh. We ordered tom yom soup, fried fish cakes, pad thai, and queen tilapia. Our waitress made the soup sound small (she indicated a cup size with her hands) so we ordered one each, but they turned out to be bowls, so it was too much. I had never had the tilapia before and it was overly saucy, but tasty. This Thai is very american and average, nothing here screams authentic. The "spicy" was very low in heat level and had no taste, it just was bland. They refused to use spices and herbs that may have brought their food to a 4 star level, and just told me to add the siracha that was on the table. I myself had the Magic Tofu, which was thin thin strips of tofu mixed with green peppers, some other veggies and served over rice. My friends had everything ranging from curries to pad thai and their opinions were all very similar, there was no actual taste to the food, it was just bland. As a first timer, I never had legitimate Thai food, but Green Mango sure help satisfice my appetite and experience with Thai food. Likes: Their prices are very reasonable, a lot of variety for meat eaters or vegetarians, very homy atmosphere which is great for dining with a friend or company. Dislikes: The vicinity was a bit too small and compact for my liking like you're seated close in proximity to the other diners, single servings are a bit too large, their hours are confusing, and the young hostess came across as unfriendly (even during my next few visits to the business). Overall, the Green Mango has a great unfamiliar taste of Thai cuisine for those who are willing to explore new palates rather than having your typical oriental foods, which probably consists of Chinese takeout or sushi. read more

If your not sure about what something is, just ask, everyone here is always friendly and glad to help. My boyfriend is a huge curry fan, he has ordered a few different ones, but his favorite is the Pumpkin Curry. My #1 pick is the Drunken Noodles w\ shrimp. Just be aware, If the menu states a dinner as spicy be sure you specify how spicy you want your meal to be. The drunken noodles is definitely a spicy one! And last but not least, my favorite part about coming here is the Bubble Tea! They have several flavors to choose from & are made to perfection each time. Some of the best Thai I've ever had...! It was interesting to see their menu have so many choices especially if you eat meat. They have a dish called Roast Duck Curry... order it even if you don't like duck. This was probably the most interesting dish on their menu. We have dined at the GM twice in the past three years and wasn't impressed either time. As others have said the wait staff were not necessarily unfriendly, but rather disinterested and appeared to have other things on their mind despite our being the only diners in the restaurant. We ordered three dishes, one satisfactory, one very bland and one that had an odd flavor, ... what I imagine floor cleaner to taste like. At the end of the meal the third dish was cleared relatively untouched with no inquiry from the server, which I thought was odd. Our intentions were to share everything so 2 of 3 wasn't a big deal.
