The homemade oil/lime/herb dressing on the garden salad was very fresh and tasty, and the greens themselves were super fresh, with herbs mixed in. I really, really, really, really, really like this place. And I've only been once. Earlier today, it occurred to me that I had not eaten a single vegetable in over three days. THREE. Wanting to break free from the vicious cycle of sugar and white flour, I decided to stop by The Greenery on my lunch break. While I waited for my hummus salad, I walked around the patio and even snapped a few photos. Quaint, breezy, adorable space. Dane and the girl who brought out my food were super chill and welcoming. As for the salad, every component of it was fresh and bright. The ginger-lemon dressing is such a welcome change from the usual balsamic vinaigrette ho-humness. We stopped here on our way back to our hotel and discovered a lovely couple running this small cafe. Their attitude was enough to make us stay but the food was enough to have us come back. During our stay in Kauai my friend and I were unable to find good quality healthy cuisine. Cute little cafe behind a house. Plenty of parking and seating. Seating is plastic chairs with tents and awnings. YFood made to order, very tasty! We got the kale salad and the fish wrap, yum! The hubby chose this lunch spot because it was close to the location of our helicopter tour. At first, I thought it was just a residential house, but was thrilled to see a sign for the restaurant. The words "soul food" had me thinking it was more soul food from the south (i.e. fried chicken, collard greens, etc.). Little did I know, this was more "good for your soul (and body)" food. I love this place. How stinkin' cute is a back house off the beaten path that sells healthy and fresh food? Really cute. I loved the menu, the people that work here are very nice, they use environmentally friendly food containers and utensils, their coffee is great! And the food is delicious. The cafe is located in a neighborhood in the backyard of a private home. Full Disclosure: I've never eaten here. Ever. Why the 5 stars you ask? Well here's the deal. We travel to Kauai often and are always on the hunt for a healthy organic light weight meal deal. We just returned to the Lone Star State after a week on Kauai for the Kauai Marathon. We were back and forth to the airport taking our son to catch an early flight back home and then us a couple days later.... we called in an order to this hidden gem to pick up some healthy grub to take on the plane.... the husband insisted on filling up the rental car tank first... lines were super long at Costco gas station and we were cutting it super close to take off time. I had to make a tough decision between picking up my fresh and healthy Mahi wraps or saving my marriage... well I'm not working full time these days so I had to go with the marriage... made the dreaded call back to the fine folks preparing my healthy wraps to deliver the dreaded news... "I'm going to have to eat airport food!!" They didn't answer so I left the Dear John new on a voice mail... I felt terrible. I've been in the service industry my whole adult life... this is not something I wanted to do. I was mopey... made it to the airport, TSA shakedown... on the plane, starved all the way back to Texas until I could get my healthy hippie fix... I just got a text message from this fine establishment saying they received my message and no worries at all. My heart is healed and I can't wait til I'm back on the island to meet these fine folks. Fresh fresh fresh!! This is the freshest plate of food I've had coming out of a restaurant. The caveat is that the food takes well over 20 minutes to reach your table but it's worth the wait! Also, sitting in a calm garden helps alleviate the wait time frustration. We had the hummus wrap and the mung bean soup. Both tasted great and very homey. Their juices are brilliant too!
