We discovered this place through Yelp; it's not in a spot where anyone would be likely to find it by chance. One side of Akahi Street is mostly the back entrances of businesses along Kuhio Highway; the other side of the street is mostly houses or businesses that look like houses. There's a Greenery Cafe sign in front of one of the houses (where the owners live?), and some small signs that indicate that the restaurant is a house behind the house that's visible from the street. There's a grass driveway to disability parking by the restaurant-house, but parking is mostly a matter of finding a spot on the street. Once you find the place, the next challenge is the wait. When we arrived in the patio between the house-house and the restaurant-house, someone noticed us, asked us to wait a moment, and stepped away for a bit. I did my Yelp check-in, and the three of us (my wife, our four-year-old, and I) settled into seating. Before long, someone was ready to take our order. We ordered our sandwiches. While waiting, we kept our child amused. When they announced that our food was ready, I noted that it had been 38 minutes to prepare the sandwiches. Everything on the menu sounded like really healthy food, and the menu boasted about the guiltless organic ingredients, sustainable fish, and so forth. Besides getting just plain good, healthy food here, one could probably indulge a lot of kinds of specialty diets here. The food was delicious. Just about every bite was five-star, "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" delicious. A lot of healthy food is a bit on the bland side, but this was all good. Yum! The seating area is pretty small. It's outdoors, with a roof that protects against sunshine and rain, but probably not much against wind. The tables and chairs are spartan, and not really ideal for the long wait for food. But I kind of understand; it's not easy to find comfortable outdoor furniture. The slow service means that the food is very freshly prepared, and the meal we had was fantastic. But it's definitely a deterrent to visiting on an impulse. From other reviews, I understand that it's possible to order ahead. That seems like a really good idea if one doesn't have plenty of time to wait. (I'll have to look up how to order ahead next time we're on the island.) But that requires added planning that's not necessary at places with faster service. In conclusion, the food is worth five stars: "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" But the time requirement (whether a long wait or ordering ahead far enough in advance) is enough of an inconvenience that I'm reducing my overall rating to four stars: "Yay! I'm a fan." read more

It's literally a back house or guest house turned into a small restaurant with seating outside only (however, they did let me use their restroom :D ) This place is so reasonably priced for such fresh local ingredients. I feel like you can't go wrong! The gentleman taking our order couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Really we just love this place. It's a bit hard to find because, as I said, it is the "back house" on the property, but you'll see the sign from the street. When you pull in, you can either park right in the front by the sign if there are spots available or you can drive to the back of the property. The BBQ chicken wrap was INCREDIBLE! Just enough flavor but overall very light. No heavy sauces or overwhelming flavors. The grilled cheese (we added BBQ chicken to it- custom style!) also INCREDIBLE! The collard greens: A+ The side salad: fresh as could be! And then the corn bread?! Oh... My.. Good... Lord.. And the sweet potatoes could count as dessert! They're THAT incredible. But again.. Not TOO sweet. Just enough flavor. Honestly if I could give this place 10/10, 20/20, 100/100.... You get the picture... I would, without hesitation. The Greenery Cafe is a lovely hidden gem tucked away behind a quaint house in Lihue close to the airport. While the covered patio area only accommodates two tables, it was the perfect place to enjoy a healthy meal before our flight and stay protected from the April rain showers. I was compelled to order the salmon cakes as I haven't eaten them in ages and for some reason they bring back the nostalgia of eating them during my childhood. Already a healthy option, the meal was made even better with the sides of sweet potato yams and kale salad. My father ordered the rosemary chicken wrap. It must have been good as my father didn't leave any behind for me to sample. For dessert, we opted to try the coconut rice pudding. One of the ladies working at the cafe brought out the warm pudding in a little plastic to-go cup. I was pleasantly surprised to find chunks of purple taro mixed in to the pudding which definitely makes it one of the most unique rice puddings I've eaten. I also appreciated that the pudding had just a subtle sweetness to it. The cafe staff were all very friendly. I had a nice conversation with the man who took our order when he asked whether we were locals or visitors to the island. I also appreciate when restaurant staff take a genuine interest in their customers. The Greenery Cafe has now been added to my list of local Kauai eateries I will return to on subsequent visits to the island. read more

My husband and I stopped here before checkin in for a helicopter ride at Lihu'e airport. All I can say is... wow! At first when we pulled up, we were a little skeptical, but once the food came, all of our (slight) worries went away. When you pull up to the house, walk around to the back and you'll find the sweetest staff. My husband ordered the BBQ chicken wrap and loved it - the BBQ sauce was homemade and tasted so fresh and light. I ordered the kale salad + chicken and could taste the freshness in every bite! I am a huge fan of kale salads and this was by far the best I've ever had. I don't know what the difference in Hawaiian kale is, but it's amazing! The man who brought our food said that (almost) all of their vegetables are grown in their garden, which he showed us and invited us to check out once we were done eating. My only disappointment was that they were out of their special dessert - a chia seed sweet potato pudding! Oh - and I wish it was closer to where we're staying in Princeville! Everything was DELICIOUS! We sat outside and just enjoyed ourselves. My mom kept raving about her salad and thought about ordering another to go but we weren't heading back to the hotel. Woah! This place is awesome! The best place we've eaten on our 2 week trip to Hawaii. The rosemary chicken wrap was so good, and full of fresh vegetables and herbs. My husband got the rosemary chicken plate with potatoe salad and cornbread. We also got the tea and cobbler. Everything was so good and healthy! The cornbread was amazing! I have been here twice and will happily return when back on Kauai. I went with friends and we tried the Salmon Croquette wrap, the BBQ Chicken and Hummus wrap, and the Rosemary Chicken wrap. All were delicious, with the salmon being all of our favorites. Comparatively, I found the wraps to be of most worth in terms of amount of food to price, they were quite filling! It's a cute little neighborhood eatery adapted in a mixed-use residential neighborhood, with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. I had a delicious vegetarian wrap sandwich and herbal mint iced tea. (The only thing I could fault them on was yes, it seems a bit slow, and also watching a young staff person wearing disposable food-prep gloves come out to deliver the food and then still wearing the gloves, open the door and go back inside, totally defeating the purpose of wearing the gloves. I ordered a sandwich and my partner ordered a wrap, both came with chips. MAN WERE THEY DELICIOUS! Idk what the chips were made of but I'm still thinking about them.
