My family and I ate here three days while staying at the Gold Dust West hotel. First night, prime rib. Excellent, prepared exactly as three of us ordered, and the vegetables were done to perfection. The waitress was concerned that she brought the prime rib plate out "too soon" after our dinner salads. Great, prompt service! It was Thursday night, so not too many patrons in the restaurant. Next two days for breakfast, Sandy waited on us, again with exceptional service and fun, caring attitude. Very attentive. The next day she remembered our preferences from the day prior! She made us feel welcomed and comfortable as we were going through a family emergency in town. The Grille prepares a very good country scramble. Also the plate of pancakes with bacon was good. My husband and I have been coming to The Grille for years. The staff are wonderful. Sandy is an amazing waitress and person. We always request her. Don't get me wrong, Sahine, Monica, Veronica and the others are great also. The hostess Denise and the other gal are accomedating and friendly. I went to Pegs last week and spent a lot of money on a subpar breakfast. I went to The Grille today, ordered what I had a Pegs. Hands down the taste, price and service is so much better. The only thing that I have almost walked out of the restaurant with is sometimes the cigarrette smell is strong, too strong. I have asthma and I do not want to breathe it. Most of the time it is pretty clear, but they have days it is bad and last week there were a couple days that the smell was intense. Other than that, this is our go to place. read more

I got home and that night I had the runs and vomit. I came in Saturday morning for breakfast and got on the waiting list and was told about ten minutes. After reading the current reviews I must write about our dinner last night. Went to The Grille for dinner. The place is remodeled and cozy. Both our waitress and even the bus person gave us VERY GOOD and friendly service. 1.) My wife and I shared the shrimp special. $7.77, a great deal... 13 shrimp fried perfectly, good fries but a not so good bowl of cole slaw. Overall great for the price. 2.) My older son had the tri-tip beef special. I tried it. The beef was very tender, Good meal for $ 6.99 3.) Our younger son had the western-style bacon cheeseburger. Beyond my expectations! Half pound patty, bacon, a big onion ring, good sauce. (this is a good size burger) I tried it and I seriously can't wait to go back and order this. A VERY GOOD Buger. Clearly the cooks or chef on duty (a Monday night) deserve kudos. If it were not for the fact that the cole slaw tasted old, I would call it a perfect dinner for a coffee shop. This is the restaurant (cafe) in the Gold Dust West Casino in Carson City. As a casino restaurant, the focus is generally more on value than on service and the highest quality food. We were seated immediately upon entry and we were ready to order when our waitress came to the table for our drink order. We have learned that this expedites thing immensely. If you are fooling around on your phone, you won't get good service. The environment is casual and relaxed; nothing fancy. It is even a bit noisy because of the casino machines nearby. That said, we were comfortable. My wife ordered a chicken sandwich with fries and I ordered a half-rack of ribs with fries. Both were rather large portions with a huge piece of chicken and a very meaty half-rack. The food was quite tasty and well cooked and presented. This fries were good and they offered thousand island for the fries. When our food was only half eaten, we stopped to leave room for the included pie. My wife had peach and I had chocolate cream. It wasn't the very best I have ever had, but it was certainly worth the calories; a great way to finish off a meal. The service wasn't perfect, but we were offered refills and the waitress was very pleasant. She also offered to go boxes when she observed we had left-overs. So, in summary, the value was a 5. The food was a solid 4. That is the primary basis for my rating. The service was a 3.5, better than average, but the wait staff is pretty busy. (Service is a tie-breaker for us. I find you get what you give regarding service for the most part.) I would certainly go here again for a casual meal. If you are heading in for the extremely cheap breakfast, and you expect perfection . . . remember this is designed for casino gamblers and guests and not most importantly as a diner. To start, we walked in, the cashier came up to me and asked when the baby is due. I'm not pregnant. We went up to the seating host. He said there were no booths available, we said we were ok at a regular table. He said there would be a 15 minute wait and took down our number. All the regular tables were empty but we sat to wait. 15 minutes later we're not seated but new people that just walked in got seated. We asked the host why, and he said they didn't want a booth. We reminded him we told him we wanted a table. He grudgingly took us to a table and dumped our menus, no apologies. I ordered the chicken parmesan sandwich with fruit instead of fries, my husband ordered breakfast. His meal was mediocre. My sandwich was decent, not great, but decent. The fruit was rotten, you could smell it. When we told our server and he apologized but didn't offer to see if there was fresh fruit, or to give us a discount on the meal. The meals were supposed to come with free pie. I ordered cherry, my husband got chocolate cream. His was mediocre. Mine was cold, it tasted terrible. First off, I didn't go in with high expectations... the family was running around all day and we were tired and hungry. We wanted to eat inexpensively but not fast food. My cell was dead so I couldn't yelp (BIG MISTAKE) and we ended up here. Gagged from all the smoke that wafted in. It was hard to take. Seats were kinda greasy and we asked for the table to be wiped down again. Dinner salad had obviously been pre-made in the walk-in for a while as the lettuce was wilted and translucent as if half frozen. The cucumber was fine. I ate that. As with the Grille over in Reno, this is my kinda place. It's good basic American diner fare at reasonable prices. No wheelie chairs at this one, but the upstairs booths are a nice place to sit and eat and I dig the old-timey lanterns over each table. If you're ordering veggies, rice or non-fried fish here you're doing it wrong. This is all about breakfast and burgers, maybe steak for dinner. I've run through about the whole breakfast menu at the Reno Grille already so on this trip I opted to finally try a burger. The Mushroom Swiss was a nice 1/2 pounder with a toasted bun and mushrooms that I'm pretty sure weren't from a can. Fries lackluster freezer bag stuff but passable - maybe spring for mashed taters or something instead? Onion rings can be had for $1 extra too. Breakfast around $5-$7, burgers w/ fries $7-$9 (how did this get a $$$ rating?). Not sure if they have the overnighter $2 "Complete Breakfast" like the Reno location does - didn't see any signage for it. They do have the to-go dessert case on the way out though. Poor service! I didn't even get a chance to try the food out. From the first encounter we had with them, it was a negative experience. We waited 1 hour for a table for 15 people. We did end up having more people, and I understand that's an inconvenience; however the disrespect we received from the staff was unacceptable. The waitress was rude and extremely condescending. Like I said before, I understand the inconvenience but there was no reason she should have talked to us the way she did. This issue could have easily been resolved by accommodating us with more tables, we would have waited a little longer. This is a good place to eat for anyone. Their food is very good and service excellent. Not a fancy place to eat and it's inside a casino but we enjoy the food, specials and prices. Prime rib, excellent, as well as the butterfly shrimp. I had prime rib served with a large baked potatoes, served with real thick sour cream, butter and chives. Cooked like I asked for and it was very tender. Soup or salad came with it and a piece of pie. I took my pie with me. My husband and I are seniors and it happened to be senior day and discounts applied. We ate here on this years Manride and I wasn't that impressed. They had prime rib on special so I ordered that with rice. The prime rib was rather thinly sliced and had a large piece of fat right in the middle, it shouldn't have been sent out being as it was probably 15% fat. The rice was rather bland with no seasoning at all and even copious amounts of salt and pepper couldn't bring it back. So overall if we are back this way we will probably find another place to eat. Went to dinner with my husband and ordered the prime rib. Asked for medium rare and got bloody raw! The hostess happened to be the manager (we would later find out). Our visit lasted almost TWO hours for lack of interest by our waitress. My prime rib actually made me physically ill after about 25 minutes. Then when we finally get to check out (after basically begging for our check and being told to hold on) we are told the manager will see us up front....JOY! The crabby lady from the beginning of this fun time! She is so obviously angry she won't speak to us or even answer when I compliment the soup. If I was able to give negative stars I would. We went in today for a late lunch and our server was Rhonda. We had her before and gave her another chance after a really bad experience with her. We sat at our table for 15 minutes and wasn't even greated by her. As a matter of fact a different server got our drinks while Rhonda chatted away with another table and ignored the rest of them. The people next to us were still waiting for their soup and food that they ordered. This server just went right by our tables and the woman actually had to ask this server if she was going to get her soup. She did and didn't even acknowledge that we were sitting there. I asked if she was ever going to come to our table to get our order. She then just stormed off talking smack about us for the whole place to hear her. My husband asked to speak to the manager who came over to give us a plethora of excuses so my husband asked to speak to her manager. As we waited for another 10 minutes the restaurant manager and this sever were talking about us in back and we could hear them in the restaurant. Rhonda comes storming out of the back and exclaimed that she wouldn't be serving us period. The shift manager came in and gave the exact same excuses. Needless to say we walked out. It was a very BAD experience. How hard is it to order a meal and not have to wait for 30 minutes to do so. Oh and they are the only place in this town now requiring that you keep your mask on until your food arrives. Guess we aren't allowed to drink beverages prior either. Ordered prime rib, fettuccine, and hamburger. I had the soup, chicken artichoke - actually really good. My hubby's salad was not that great looking as other reviews suggest. Waitress was super nice. My prime rib was good, veggies were not too great but salt makes every thing better. My hubby's entree wasn't that great tasting in my opinion so I was glad I got prime rib until late at night waking up, feeling like i need to vomit. I did, and I felt so much better. We've stayed at gold dust west before and it is an amazing hotel. The complimentary breakfast at the grille is perfect. We're people that like to sleep in and breakfast goes to 4pm. It's a small restaurant in the casino and tends to get a little busy, but the staff is humorously sassy and adorably sweet. Ashley was attentive and kept the iced tea coming! This review is for their breakfast. Staying at the motel, I get a free one. The food is standard fare which means nothing worth driving for, but good if you're here and hungry. The breakfast is certainly better than the free breakfasts at a Hampton Inn or those continental ones of packaged muffins at many motels.
