I came here to the Grille, located inside the Reno Gold Dust West Casino with my crew for our last meal before we head back home to California after our assignment is done. I figure this place has enough verity of food to keep everybody happy, and the cost won't break the company expense account. The interior isn't too smoky at least. We started out with a couple of orders of the loaded potato skins. You get 5 per order, those were dang tasty for sure. I ordered the salad with added seared salmon as did another one of my crew. A couple of guys ordered the French Dip sandwich and another had the Phily sandwich, both served with fries. The two other girls on the crew had filet of sole and the turkey dinner. Service was friendly and answered all of our questions and took the orders fine. The food took a little bit to come out, but with a six person order, it might be expected. All the food looked fabulous, well, OK, except the turkey dinner. The sliced turkey breast looked like it was grilled and browned, not just sliced roasted turkey like she expected, but it still tasted OK. We had our salmon salads served with the salmon on the side. The salad was huge and the salmon cooked perfect. One thing I noticed was, my piece of salmon was somewhat smaller than the piece my coworker got. I didn't say anything, but I did notice! The other girl on the crew had the filet of sole and that was very good she said, super tender. Bothe the guys that had the sandwiches said they liked them, especially the French dip that came with dipping au jus. They guy that got the Phily sandwich wished he had some of the au jus to dip his sandwich into! My friends and I didn't realize how many 24 hour diners aren't 24 hours anymore and we were in downtown Reno looking to grab an inexpensive bite and sit down to enjoy it. After several years since my last visit to the dining at GDW, we landed here on a Friday night. They are also not 24 hours anymore but they are open a bit later - 10pm vs Cal Neva's 9pm etc. First we were met with smiling faces and great enthusiasm despite our arrival at apparently 10 minutes to closing. We had a busser aka every server's lifeline, named Jasmine whose personality just lit up the dining room. She was just so friendly, helpful and radiating a level of joy that was a welcome energy. If she doesn't love her job, I would be shocked because her joy was rather infectious. After being seated we reviewed the very affordable menu. Affordable is important these days! Our server, Thomas I think, was equally friendly and helpful. Everyone but me ordered and received amazing food. To be clear, I am relatively restaurant cursed so I tend to have mistakes or problems that the average person probably won't experience so I'm not going to focus on my meal at all in this review for that reason. My bestie ordered the burger which was assembled well, cooked to perfection and great flavor. Bun was soft but not too soft. Fries were tasty (I had a couple myself). The third in our party ordered the French Toast. This too was perfectly cooked, presentation was on point and looked delicious which my friend confirmed was true. Our fourth ordered the pecan pancakes. They too were perfectly prepared. The pancakes were fluffy, light and very flavorful even without the accroutements. The Pecans were generously adorning the top and even came with a side of the candied Pecans to add so you really could insure every bite would be covered. I had some of hers because the kitchen was already closed when I couldn't eat what I ordered. I'll be getting that next time we come in. Overall, I had a better experience and we spent less than we have had at Gold N Silver. My biggest criticism is they are not open after 10pm. Late night bites are getting harder to find and I think they could stay busy if they were open later. read more

We headed to The Grille restaurant for breakfast/lunch, located inside the Gold Dust West Casino. When we arrived, the restaurant was fairly full of diners but the hostess was able to find an open table for our party of four in the back of the room. Our server, Maria, appeared with the menus and took our drink orders (iced teas, decaf coffee and ice waters). After a couple minutes, our server returned to get our food orders: fried clam and fries basket, chicken fried steak and eggs breakfast platter, waffles with a side of sausage, and a green-chile burger. After a short wait, Maria dropped off our food. My chicken fried steak was good (Gold Dust West still serves one of the best chicken fried steak in town), my niece and sister enjoyed each of their entrees but my brother-in-law's waffles and sausage was disappointing. The waffles were stale, the sausage was looked like there was a bite taken out of it and syrup was watery; it wasn't viscous at all. If I had seen a manager or another server, I would have encouraged my brother-in-law to send the food back and ask for a refund because his entree was just that terrible. First not sure why it says closed because there wasn't any signs of construction or similar. Had a delicious lunch here-- I was pleasantly surprised! They offer the typical coffee shop in a casino options . They were offering a Brie and turkey sandwich special so I went with that. Loved it. My sandwich was made to perfection. I must admit I was worried the Brie cheese would be overwhelming but it was just the right portion. The fries were cooked to perfection and not super oily. Good ranch too! Used to be a hidden gem. Not so much anymore. Very low quality, flavor isnt great and usually way too salty. Prices has increased and portions have decreased. This restaurant is inside the Gold Dust West in Reno. You have to walk through the casino to enter the restaurant. The casino was built in 1977. Yes, the building inside does look a little dated. This Casino and restaurant is 21 only. Therefore it has been many years since I have eaten here. This is one of the last places in Reno that still has decent prices. The wait staff is always friendly and knowledgeable about their menu. Their Prime Rib dinner is $14.99. It includes a salad, dinner roll, choice of potato, and vegetables. The Prime Rib was tastier than some of the steakhouses around town. They also have a lobster and steak for $21.99. However, the steak was not as good as the Prime Rib. The lobster was good. My son loves to get their Philly Cheesesteak and ask for au jus on the side. This by the way was a suggestion of our waitress. He absolutely loves it. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Every month the special meals change. For example, June's specials are a BBQ Brisket Sandwich and Fries for $10.99, Orzo Pasta with Chicken for $10.99, or an add-on of deep-fried shrimp for $4.99. The food and service is good. read more

Well we went again this morning at 7:55 AM after dropping our car off at Bill Pearce Honda. We walked in and got excited because the restaurant was only 1/4 full and we thought we would be seated right away. But no, the hostess told us it would be a 10-15 minute wait. I told her right then that it was a shame that they didn't have enough wait staff to run their restaurant. She looked me in the eye and said we only have 1 server. What a crying SHAME. If you only have one server how long could it possibly take to get through breakfast? I wish it could be different, I really do because I love their food but my time is much more valuable to me. No where on their website does it say minors are not allowed to eat here. And we kept seeing ads for their steak and lobster dinner advertised so we decided to go eat there as a family. We have never had an issue bringing our son with us to eat at any other casino's restaurant, but we were not allowed to eat here. Reno Locals, if you haven't discovered The Grille inside of Gold Dust casino just two blocks off Keystone right off the 80 freeway, get ready to add this to your dining rotation! We are weekly regulars here and the food is always great quality, fresh homemade taste and friendly service. It is generally a mature crowd and if you want to be in the OG local mix, this is the spot for you. Flannel plaid, jeans, and a baseball cap is the usual dress code. They can get pretty busy but generally the wait is not very long and they have a savvy texting waitlist if there is a wait. 20 minutes is our average if we are wait at all. Pre-pandemic they were 24 hours but now it is 6am-10pm daily. We sure miss those old late night/early morning hours. They make the best french toast in town and the chicken and waffles always hits the spot. I would say they are about as close to comfort food delicious home cooking as it gets: country fried steak, pot roast, and chicken noodle is my top 3 for this. Their potato skins must get mentioned! Once you've had this, it will be a tough act to follow. They no longer do take out orders but if you are dining in, you can order this to go, it is an easy snack to pop into the oven to heat up. They also still offer their reimagined free pie. We have been coming here for over 30 years. We have seen things come and go. Everything on the menu is available all day. This is a great change. They have only 2 salads with very pricey "salad enhancers". There are 3 soups every day. The SAME 3 SOUPS! One of the draws for me was their variety of soup. Strike 2. The drink glasses are too small. They need to have someone to keep the drinks topped off or go back to large soda and iced tea glasses. Strike 3. This can't possibly endear themselves to the locals. There's 4 people at the register trying to close another couple check. It's painful to watch. It's like 3 monkeys trying to eff a football. We stayed in line just to watch the cluster-eff. Now it's our turn. Alright, prime rib dinner TO-GO. All 4 of then looked at me like I just asked for Biden to take office again. They actually made us sit in the restaurant and order the food. So glad they did !! Covid has decreased the number of tables available in the restaurant. We were a group of seven. So they set us up in a small meeting room. Perfect for our rowdy group. Sharmin Was our fabulous server. She hustled to the bar for our several bottles of wine, then back to the kitchen for all our food orders. At then end of our dinner she even put seven slices of pie in to go containers for us. We had Bogle and J Lohr wines. The prime rib we a perfect Med rare, tender and wonderfully seasoned. For $11.99 it came with soup or salad, choice of potato, steamed veggies and a roll. Plenty of food for me. I enjoyed a prime rib sandwich the next day. The Grille serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Check the website or the menu insert for the various daily specials. I want to return on Sunday for their fried chicken and taters for $8.88. The Grille is nothing fancy. Great little find in the mists of a decaying city! Its disappointing to see Reno 's casino row Going down the drain. I stayed at the El Dorado but due to the limited casinos and eateries available We had to venture off to find a place to eat.... So we stumbled onto this gem, the prices were very affordable and the food was delicious!! The staff was friendly and the food came really fast! As you can see by the pics, the portions were hugeeeee! It was not very far from El Dorado and since its located inside a casino, we had a chance to play a bit afterwards! I live nearby and my friends like the breakfast at the Grille. We went today and I had the huevos rancheros. It was good as usual, with lots of shredded beef and 3 eggs. I didn't need the huge portion of hash browns. I've had the corned beef hash too and I like it. The smokehouse is the best though, as you get a lot of bacon, ham and sausage. The prices are decent and the casino probably subsidizes the restaurant. If you are looking for a big breakfast for a decent price this place is not bad. read more

We were at The Grille on Sunday around 3:30. Most of the tables were empty. Someone came and put glasses of water on the table without a word, no greeting nor acknowledgement. I smiled and said, "Hi, how are you?" The person barely said a word and left. There were people who were seated after us but had their orders taken. The waitress eventually came to our table. She was also unfriendly. After we ordered breakfast, we observed that other people arrived, and many tables became filled. We felt relieved that we had beat the crowd. Unfortunately, we ended up feeling very annoyed because there were other people at several tables who had arrived after us and had their orders taken after us, but they received their food before we did. After being there for about a half hour, we finally got up and talked to someone standing near the front and explained the problems. We said we would pay for our coffee. She never apologized and just said we were good to go, meaning we would not have to pay for our coffee. That was our last time ever to go to The Grille. Unless you're a local and frequent this restaurant often to establish popularity, I recommend you do not eat here. (We noticed the regulars were treated in a somewhat welcoming manner.) read more

Second stop on the great Reno Chicken Fried Steak trek, Gold Dust West coffee shop. Have not been to Gold Dust West in maybe a decade. Very glad I made it back, because they had THE goods. It arrived with nice big chunks of juicy sausage in the gravy. Gravy was the exact taste I was looking for on a CFS, 100%. The steak was a good 6 inches wide by 8 inches high, covering most the plate. Thinking back to the the visit last weekend at the Legacy, I now ask "where's the BEEF? Easily twice the size, and only 9.99! Breading and the steak were perfect. Hash browns were perfect, and added bonus was three eggs over easy. Not skimping here, more taters, more eggs, more MEAT! Gave me a self serve coffee jug so some bonus points. I like those portable 8 cup pots, just handy. Still have a few more to try downtown and others mentioned on the first post. While in Reno this past week, my son and I had some of the best food at this small restaurant and casino. The prime rib is to die for; very tender and cooked to perfection (we prefer a rare cut). The price was very reasonable also. We also had the ribeye steak on another night and ham and eggs for breakfast. We came here because we were lucky to get dining credit of $10 dollars and $15 dollars each. The prices were very cheap as there was no item I believe over $15 dollars. There is the $10 dollar prime rib special which my wife and I both ordered. Portions are huge and the sides were mash potatoes with the white gravy. The prime rib was cooked good and portions were huge. Also, you get free pie at the end which is great. The pie was great and free is even better. It has been a few years and we were looking for some late breakfast/lunch before hitting the road. I forgot to take pics, but we really enjoyed this place, It is embedded within the Gold Dust West Casino (which feels like they have had some nice machine upgrades). Therefore, if you have to wait for a table (we had to wait like 10 minutes), you'll need to be in the Casino, so everyone in your party needs to over 21 (they check IDs). We were good to go and ordered two of the chicken sandwiches (with bacon and avocado) with sweet potato tots, and two of the Big Star breakfasts. We were pleasantly surprised that the food was quite good and service was top notch. Old school touch like having a carafe of coffee on your table is quite nice. The treat was they still had the "free pie" with an entree order, but they revised it to more of a parfait that is served in a plastic cup with a lid so you can take them to go! The decor definitely gives off an old timers kinda vibe - I neglected to take pictures- my bad. As soon as we were seated my friend said "now I see why the older crowd likes it- the seats are really comfy"! They were vintage style - plush and comfy! Ok now on to the good stuff! The service was great! We were greeted and seated right away and our drink order was taken. We then ordered breakfast, which is served until 11am. I ordered the skillet and my friend was in luck- he had the chicken fried steak because it's one places in Reno where he can get brown gravy instead of the standard white gravy! Bonus for him. The food was served quick and was hot! As you can see the helpings are a good size. Look at how big that chicken fried steak is! It was HUGE! I overheard the table next to us ask the waitress if she knew "The Grille" was known in town, for their omelets. Next time I'll be trying that! Maggie was a great server and Megan the manager made us feel special by filling our request to have Maggie serve us again as we came back for dessert after playing in the casino. Was just 86-ed over a small bowl of gravy incident over a month ago. We have frequented this location for breakfast multiple times. My husband, a diabetic and a southerner, usually asks for restaurants to hold the hashbrowns and asks for just a small "monkey dish" of gravy for a biscuit (instead of toast) so he can properly manage his carbohydrates intake. Normally they never charge extra for the gravy because he does not want all those potatoes. This has never been a problem until this one waitress made it her problem. Ever since then, she has gone out of her way to tell management when we arrive we are the "free gravy" guys. My husband seen this poor behavior as we were seated and went to complain to the manager that 1) she is not our waitress and it's none of her business and 2) cost wise they are saving money because all he wants is a small amount of gravy for 1/2 a biscuit. Sure my husband might have been a little heated when he talked to multiple managers, but all the managers seemed indifferent to his complaints and we left after our meal without screaming or causing a major disturbance. We have even been back once before for breakfast without any incidents. Today we walk in, get seated, and casino Manager comes up with 4 security guards asking to have a talk because of this waitress. We ask what this was about, and stated it was the gravy incident. We were told that we were 86-ed (banned) and had to leave. On the way out I made it a point to drop off my players cards at the "security" desk. I have made a call to corporate at Jacob's Entertainment senior Management and I will update this review as I see Necessary. UPDATE: Management has decided to choose "Feelings" over facts. So if you are in for Poor service, and poor management practices then the Grill at Gold Dust west is for you. Just don't ask for gravy. read more

Great breakfast this morning! So glad I gave this spot a chance. I'm staying at the Silver Legacy and there are no restaurants open here on the Row until 7AM, besides the fact that Cafe Central isn't very impressive. So, I ventured down the street to Gold Dust West Casino to give their restaurant a chance at 6AM. Quiet and unassuming, the restaurant was simply decorated with historical pictures of Reno's past. I love that! Comfortable setting, uncrowded tables, and comfortable chairs. Service was attentive and friendly. Food was good. I had the bacon and eggs (scrambled) served with perfectly cooked crispy hash browns and sourdough toast. Good quality food all around and at half the price $7.99, of Cafe Central, Millie's, or Madame Butterwork's Curious Cafe ($16.00) on the Row. We are longtime customers. Usually, the food is good and portions are generous. The $10.99 specials for May were less good than the standard. Tried the Cod with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The cod portion was small, but I guess that's what you get in this economy. We also ordered Prime Rib Wraps. We got tortillas wrapped around three thin slices of beef and potatoes. It came with french fries. We know how good the prime rib can be so we were disappointed.
