June is the Hawaiian Burger & Buffalo Chicken Salad available 11 AM - 10 PM. Honestly, its about time I review this place. Truthfully I feel like this is a secret little gem. Most people think of the Gold Dust West as... A not amazing place to hang. Well, have you ever eaten at the Grille? It's definitely a spot that a lot of older people go, and they clearly cater to the older crowd, and Hey, I'm ok with that. There are quite a few tables, all with rolling chairs, which is nice and easy for scooting in and out. The menu is a pretty basic menu, there are breakfast items that they serve all day, and then your standard soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches. But let me tell you, the prices are on point! Most meals are around the $8-$10 range. I do believe they have some dinner entres that are a bit more expensive. The breakfast is $5-$8. Love that! Prime Rib dinner for $9.99. Yes please. I've eaten her a lot. And I can tell you, the food is always up to par. I've not been disappointed with anything. And this isn't going to be the most extravagant meal, but it's not poo either. If you're a baller on a budget, then this is your spot. Keep in mind this is a 21+ restaurant because it's attached to the casino. They do allow smoking in the casino, but I've never smelled it in the restaurant. The staff is always very friendly and accommodating. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention the best part... Any time you dine in, and spend $7 or more on a meal you get free pie! And the pie's are pretty darn delicious! Oh it's just a slice, not the whole pie, but yum! And you can take the free pie to go. But do note, if you're picking up a to-go order (which you totally can do) you will not get free pie. And if you choose to eat at one of the bars in the casino, no free pie there either. Had breakfast yesterday with friends, I personally love the American Breakfast it comes with 3 eggs, 4 pieces of bacon, hashbrows, 4 pieces of toast it is a great day starter....one of my friends had their scrambled eggs and hash browns he said they were really good, and my Pastor had their Oatmeal and wheat toast he said they make good oatmeal...they have awesome pepsi....the resturant is clean with very very comfortable chairs, they have a good condiments selection... Some other things I've had there and recommend, they make a mean cold turkey sandwich, with either a salad or soup and fries, the prime rib sandwich is one of the best I've had, they also make a killer french dip and fries, their prime rib special is a great piece of meat and for a few bucks more you get a large cut that's what I order, the 9.99 prime rib dinner comes with your choice of potato baked or mashed, vegtable (they could do better than mixed predone veggies they taste dry, I usually change mine to sliced tomatoes), salad is really good and you get a piece of pie with the dinner, usually comes with 2 choices to pick from... The waitresses are extremely competent and very friendly and will make sure you get the best experience while eating there...the restrooms are very clean they are close to the resturants entrance in the Gold Dust Casino... Well, I saw a Facebook pic of a fellow Yelper's prime rib taken at the Gold Dust West in Elko and it looked yummalicious, so when an opportunity came up to have dinner here one night, off we went. Verdict: It was okay. The prime rib meal was $9.99, but the version in Reno didn't have the beautiful bark I was hoping for. In fact, the meat was a little chewy and tough. A telling sign was that it was on the table less than 6 minutes after we ordered it. Sheesh. However, the baked potato was delicious - really soft and tender. Vegetables were steamed and flavorless. Chef's choice for vegetable - yeah, okay. Atmosphere: I think we were the only people in the room who didn't qualify for a senior citizen discount. The manager, Teri, was very rude in addressing that children or people under 21 could not be in the casino or restaurant, however the sign outside ONLY children and people under 21 could not be in the game area. Instead of telling us politely, she was very snappy to walk up to us and say we could not be there. She should have been nicer, and handled the situation better. If you're a familiar face, service tends to be better. That aside, go there knowing it's cheap. The food can be OK to "Hey, that's not bad at all!" I have never had food there that was bad. Atmosphere is adequate for a locals casino environment. Improvements from a year ago? Sure thing! The service, in general improved. I had a Denny's 1974 flashback.. most of this mornings patrons (and servers) back then were my age today, which ADDED to the 3.5 stars, I would never eat at ANY Denny's today but I did enjoy the flashback.. This is my go to for a cheap quick meal. Sadly my fiance cannot say the same, he has had so many bad experiences here, 2 of them with hair in his meal. But I cannot help it. Just about every meal that I like there is under $8! Im talking my favorite breakfasts, lunches and dinners! And always the free pie is a bonus! Walking thru the casino stinks like a casino and only about half of the time are the bathrooms clean but again its a casino. It was around 4am, me and my friends been gambling at El Dorado for hours now. Out of all 6 of us, my friends were all losers. But I came up winning $500 from Bacarat. Everyone forced me to treat them on a late night meal (damn free loaders). So I said fine, but I pick the place though. I drove everyone to the cafe inside Gold Dust. Walked in like I had reservations and said "Party of 6 please under Mrs. Mandy" (eventhough the place was empty hahaha). The waitress laughed and played along - " would you like a window seat too Mrs. Mandy" . We all sat down and waitress tried to hand us the menu. I immediately stopped her and told her no need for the menu. I'll order for everyone, "6 order of the $1.99 breakfast special please, all eggs over easy and with sausage and wheat toast , thank you =)". The waitress looked at my friends like I was crazy. I explained and said "oh cause I'm paying". Waitress: "oh yes boss" and laughed. My friends: But we didn't even get to pick. Me: Shut up, unless you want to pay the bill Food came out, 2 eggs, 2 sausage, some kind of hash browns and wheat bread toast with 6 glass of fine water on ice. Everyone ate it and was satisfied. I paid $16 and thats with tips included to feed 6 people... now that's unbeatable at a restaurant. Plus they are 24hrs. The breakfast special runs from midnight to 6am only. I like the Gold Dust West coffee shop for a lot of reasons. The $7.77 prime rib special is unbeatable and the service is great. Although you can't get past the coffee shop feel, the harried and hurried waitresses somehow manage to remain friendly and on the ball! They're all women, so no surprise! The chairs are extremely comfortable, but why not put in some nice booths to give diners a feeling of privacy? The check is simply laid on your table - coffeeshop style. It would be nice if it came in a folder and you could pay the server instead of standing in a long line at the register. They pay almost no attention to the veggie served on the side. On my last two trips it's been a flavorless mix of corn and carrots and green beans cooked until it all tastes like mushy cardboard. Oh well. At these prices, and the convenience of always being able to park close to the door, I'll keep coming back despite the place's minor deficits. The GDW treats you pretty nicely on a limited budget and that extends to the Grille. At least for breakfast, it's the best price/quality/portion size overall balance I've found yet in a diner in Reno. Comfy wheelie chairs, nice old-school atmosphere, only low-end casino diner I've been to where they give you linen instead of paper napkins (though paper are available if you ask.) Smoke and music from the casino floor don't really penetrate in here, no music so it's nice and relaxing. Coffee: They don't mess around, they just bring you a pot right off, even if you're flying solo. Love it. Country Scramble (5.69) : Big biscuit and a river of sausage gravy, but with a hearty helping of real eggs betwixt the two. Lotta decent hash browns too. Alright for the price. French Toast (4.99) - Two decent sized slices with choice of 2 bacon slices, 2 sausage links or half a ham steak. Really not a bad spread for 5 bucks. American Breakfast (5.69, "petite portion" is 4.49) - 3 (real) eggs, hash browns, toast or a nice-sized and tasty fluffy biscuit, and choice of 3 sausage links, 3 bacon strips or half a ham steak. Good portion value for the price and the food turns out to be pretty good too! The "petite portion" really isn't much less food than the regular portion - in fact I think the only difference was that you get a little less hash browns! I haven't tried it but 12-6 am they have a "complete breakfast" which appears to be 2 eggs, 2 sausage or bacon and hash browns for 1.99. If they chuck one of those good biscuits in that's an amazing deal (but I think you can get one on the side for like $1 anyway) Haven't tried any lunch yet but it's the usual selection of burgers and sammies. For dinner you're likely to grab the prime rib special on your first visit as it only takes 50 points on your new player's card to get a freebie, but it was good enough to be worth the regular 8.99 price too imo. After reading Lisa and Krista's reviews, my wife and I decided to give the Grille restaurant at Gold Dust West a try and were really happy we did. My wife had the prime rib special with salad and baked potato. I had the shrimp and steak with tomato bisque and baked potato. Both meals were outstanding. My tomato soup was flavorful and very tasty. My wife's salad was great too--the lettuce was crisp and all the veggies seemed really fresh. The honey dijon dressing was great too. Another nice touch were the warm dinner rolls--yum! My wife's prime rib was cooked to exact specification and was perfectly moist and juicy. My steak was cooked just how i wanted it and was juicy and flavorful and both baked potatoes were among the best we've had in a long time. The shrimp were really good too. I agree with Lisa about the iced tea too, it was great! Service was amazing. Our waitress gave us just the right amount of attention and kept our drinks fresh as needed. The meal was also nicely paced. We had our drinks and rolls and as we finished those they brought the soup and salad. We had time to finish those and then the mains came out shortly thereafter. Perfect. Even though my wife and I were about 1/3 the age of the majority of the patrons here, I thought this place had a really great atmosphere--I really enjoyed listening to the waitresses joke around with the regular customers. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal and the staff seemed to enjoy what they were doing as well. Overall, we really loved our experience here. And it was a huge value. $7.77 for the prime rib and $12.99 for my steak and shrimp. We will definitely be back.. and soon! read more

This place blows, it's so inconsistent, just after I got excited for a grand burger performance, follow up was terrible. I dined in this time. I was sat at the worst table in the restaurant, got the worst service, and my burger shrunk by 1/4LB (it's suppose to be 1/2LB), and it was cooked well done. It took forever to get my food (so I had a feeling it would be a hockey puck), so by the time I got it, I just ate it. I would have been happy to tell the waitress if she ever came by to check on me, which she didn't. I had to hand her my finished plate w/ forks, knives, spoons, napkin, all placed, like I am done, as she didn't grab it and ask for my check. I then got my free $2.45 slice of peach pie (Spend over $7), it was ice cold, and no flavor and hardly any filling. Anyways, I HATE inconsistent places, and this is 100%! Last, the waitress probably discriminated against me, gave okay service to all the older folks. Amazing how much time she would spend at the other tables, but totally ignored me. Also, I I ordered my pie up front with my burger, expecting everything to be delivered together. When I checked out the Restaurant Supervisor, asked how it was, and I said, not very good, ready to tell her about my experience, and she didn't say a word, except my food choice today wasn't her favorite. This is the best late-night spot in Reno if you're not interested in seeing everyone you know because the Gold Dust West restaurant is populated almost entirely with gamblers, and all the UNR students are over at the Gold 'N Silver in the wee hours of the morning. The Grille is known for its $1.99 breakfast served between midnight and 6 a.m., but as I hate breakfast food, I always order the Gold Dust Burger ($5.99). The patty is always cooked well in traditional diner style, and the burger comes with its toppings on the side for you to fix as you please. My personal favorite part of this restaurant are the very comfortable wheely chairs. It's very easy to come in at 2 a.m. and spend a few hours swiveling around and eating fries. And you usually get the place to yourself when you come in later at night. It's not the most gourmet food, but it's a fun hole-in-the-wall 24-hour diner hidden in the depths of an old Reno casino, which is good enough for me. read more

It seems each time we go here I like it that much more. The food has been for some time very good and getting better with each visit. The value for money too is quite good, generous portions that often require sharing or taking some home. The waitress' and bus persons are always very friendly and accommodating. Went in for the first time today. Had the Western Burger and the Chicken Caesar. Salad. Burger-Delicious! Perfect and Yummy! Chicken Caesar was the problem. The Chicken wasn't cooked all the way. Didn't notice at first so I ate a bit of the greens but then found the under cooked chicken. At the same time I noticed mine, a customer sitting near me mentioned to the waitress that his chicken was under cooked. The waitress offered him something else, to which he replied no thank you. She ended up bringing him a cookie on the house and then handing him a bill. I assume she charged him for the salad. Back to me, I told the waitress about the chicken and she offered me something else also. At this point I was a little scared that I may have eaten some of the chicken. My dining companion said that maybe we should try a cup of soup, She brought us the soup as well as a piece of chocolate cake for us to take home. Then the bill...YEP, charged full price for the salad. I was confused but didn't want to cause a problem, so I reluctantly paid for it. The Grille at the Gold Dust West remains a locals favorite. Mostly older locals. The median age for customers is about 103. The median age for the servers is slightly less, but only slightly. Neither the casino nor the restaurant allow minors, so ask for the children's menu, if just for the puzzled look you will receive. The restaurant features casino carpeting likely installed during the Reagan Administration, designed to keep you looking upward to avoid vertigo. The wall has the same paneling as your grandma's den. The chairs came from her den as well, though they added wheels to the bottom so their target customers don't have to let go of their walkers to pick them up and move them. The food itself is very good, enough for several meals unless your doctor is encouraging you to gain weight. The prices are from an earlier era, though, so you get a large quantity at a low price. It is relatively quiet, though it was easy to overhear our neighbors critiquing various Food Network offerings. Pie is free unless you are a true tight wad (a whopping $7 in other food purchases is required). Overall, a great value, particularly for geriatrics. read more

Stopped here late Saturday night for a bite. Prices looked decent, the place was pretty empty, service was pretty quick. My boyfriend and I both ordered the Mushroom Swiss Burger, I added bacon to mine. Price was $7 each. Food came quick and looked pretty good. I detected what tasted like egg on my burger, no clue where it came from, probably a spatula was used on my burger that was used on eggs... meh. Mushrooms and bacon were tasty. Fries were alright. If that was the end of the story I'd probably give it a 4. However; when our check came it was almost $20 before tip. Upon scanning through, they charged us $3 for bacon! For 2 slices of bacon! For 5.99 you are not going to get a better or bigger breakfast anywhere in Reno and the service is always great. In fact, for double that price you are not going to get it. This place gets busy on the weekend mornings though, so you may have to wait (warning).
