Service was very slow. The waitress wasn't very attentive or maybe it was her first day. I'm not sure. But, I was not impressed. With the price of entrees I expect good service at best. Two of the entrees we requested that were on the menu; were "no longer on the menu". The menu was already restricted in items so that was a bummer. The three other guests with me said their food was mediocre. They were not impressed. They each had grilled chicken, blackened chicken and fried chicken sandwich. I had the crab cake sandwich and decided to eat it without the bread and it was good. No filler all lump crab meat. One of guests tried Oak Creek fries they were decent but waitress forgot the sour cream and the funnel cake fries could've used more sugar or a chocolate or cherry dipping sauce or drizzle to make them pop on your taste buds a little bit better. If they expand the menu and either train staff or hire more not sure what the issue was-they would be so much better. read more

My first visit - we were going to FedEx Field to see The Rolling Stones. I let the hostess know when we arrived and she and our waitress were fantastic, taking our order right away and expediting everything so we could leave on time. The food was excellent. I had Cajun shrimp - many shrimp in a delicious, spicy but not too hot sauce. The portion was enough for a grown man (me). My friends had soup and garden salad and soup and Caesar salad respectively. Both were delicious and generously portioned. The atmosphere was casual - I was wearing shorts (it's hot in July at FedEx Field) and felt entirely appropriate. There isn't a thing I would change. My wife and I can count on one hand the number of restaurants in PG county that we really enjoy dining at and The Grove is definitely one of them. We've been going to the Grove almost 3 years now and it's always a pleasant experience. We've had every dish on the menu and they've all had us wanting more. (The crab cakes are what keeps us coming back the most). Lately, their themed Wednesdays (i.e. seafood night, creole night, Caribbean night etc) have set the bar of excellence even higher. We celebrated my mother's birthday here on Saturday. The food and service were exceptional!!! The guests raved about the food. Everyone loved the omelettes, the fried chicken, waffles, and the salmon and grits to name just a few of the tasty dishes. This is best brunch I have had in quite some time. Beautiful venue but food and service were sub par and over priced. Three of us ordered the salmon and grits. It looked great but the salmon was overcooked and everything lacked seasoning. The same with the veggie pasta. Our server was not equipped to handle our large reservation and would forget to bring things we requested. It took 20 minutes for our appetizers to show up and some people still hadn't received their food by the time we received our check and paid. The service is on point in this place. Gary is an Excellent server. Beyond his attentiveness, I was not impressed with the buffet the food nor he cost. First, the buffet is extremely small and you can't even request made to order eggs. You can only have the scramble eggs from the carton. You can't request an omelet or over easy eggs etc. Secondly, they do not have a wide array of food on the buffet for example no cereal, oatmeal, or bread, Limited pastries and cookies, Third the chicken was both greasy and dry at the same time and all I saw available were thighs. Fourth the people serve you. All the above-mentioned issues are a means to cut their cost and reduce food waste. Specifically, the fixing of plates for guest. If you want to fix my plate and serve me then have the option of off the menu and the buffet. Then you can serve the guest that wish to be served. Finally, I appreciate that pandemic has impacted the cost of everything but the carpet and tables need a remodel. The cost is $30 and does not even include one mimosa. There are a lot more options in the DMV with good food, better ambience, and a with a lower price tag. I would not eat brunch here again nor recommend to others looking for good good food. read more

This review is long overdue. I live in a neighborhood less than a mile from the Grove. One Sunday, my family and I decided to go to the Grove for an early dinner. There were about 9 of us, including three children ranging from 3yo to 7 yo. I called ahead of time to try to make a reservation. I was told that they wouldn't have a problem accommodating our fairly large party. Upon arrival, the restaurant was pretty empty. They sat us in a comfortable table that was a half booth and was close to the bar area. The Food After waiting a while, our food came out. Nothing to rave about. After a couple of bites, my sister discovered that her chicken was not cooked all the way through. That was nice. We told the server, she halfway apologized and offered to replace the dish with another. That's fair, but no thanks. Overall, nothing to write home about. The Service From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with underwhelming energy. The staff here seemed very uninterested in their customers, and it shows in their slow, unenthusiastic service. Not impressed. This alone let me know that I wouldn't be back. Such a shame given its vicinity to my home. The Atmosphere So this place is comfortable looking and the decor is fairly nice. Shortly after we were seated, I started to hear some cursing coming from the bar, which was directly behind our booth. It was sporadic, and since I have spidey senses...lol, I blew it off initially. A short while later, a few more F bombs were dropped and I mentioned it. My dad, a very laid back 70'ish gentleman, calmly walked over to the bar to inform the folks at the bar that there were kids sitting at the booth on the other side. He asked them if they could watch their language. They didn't protest at the time, but almost as soon as my dad sat back down I heard them talking trash...."this is a public place, why you got to bring kids to the bar, etc..." Really morons? After hearing a few of these comments, I walked over and reminded them that my father had asked them quite politely to watch their language, and that to my knowledge this was a family restaurant. Eventually, we called the manager to express our dissatisfaction that we needed to confront the lewd patrons. He was somewhat apologetic, but at this point we were disgusted. I will never ever give this place another chance. It was pathetic and such a shame. I guess I expected a certain level of service and class given that it's in a gated community. But like the old saying goes, "money can't buy class." *** I am editing this email to share that I was contacted by the management of this restaurant after submitting this review. Staff at the Grove are pathetically absent-minded and clueless about its events and hours of operations, and EXTREMELY RUDE. Made reservations for 4 to attend the Thursday Night Fish Fry (April 26). One guest and myself had to take an impromptu business trip to New York. The other parties, young adults (juniors in college), invited two friends to join them (also college students), and were greeted with the most unimaginable insulting comment from the host: THERE ARE NO DISCOUNTS TONIGHT. Pretty damn offensive for people whose car insurance premium alone could pay her broke-ass rent. The buffet meal was a mere $14.99 per person. Really! Incredible stupidity. read more

First time checking out the Grove. The restaurant itself looks ok, has a great terrace and is clean. Service on the other hand was not good. Server was asked for popular menu items and she proceeded to tell us the items to avoid as they were not good. Servers were slow, disorganized and overwhelmed with the 5 tables outside. Food was forgetable and the menu uninspiring. Missing beverage items from the menu. Overall seems like a passable golf club eatery that can cater to players looking for a beer and a bite after a round. Past that it would need a complete service and menu overhaul to stay competitive. Location is hidden and not enough signage or marketing to promote it. Has potential but needs direction and execution to elevate it. read more

This review is specifically for the rental of The Grove's private room for my organization's monthly chapter meetings. We have been meeting there for over 3 years and our experience has been wonderful. I am the Hospitality Committee chair, so I work with the catering manager & staff every month. The facility is lovely with a modern decor. Our room has a wonderful view overlooking the golf course and the patio that runs the full length of the back of the clubhouse building. Oak Creek's staff has been a pleasure to work and extremely accommodating throughout the years, especially Billy Fritz, the Pro Shop & overall manager. Our primary POC on our meeting days is James Harrison, who has the lead for room logistics and ensuring that our buffet is set up on time and continually replenished. Billy stays on top of our ever-changing monthly meeting requirements which allows James to carry out his duties. I can't say enough wonderful things about James, who is so easy to work with and has the patience of Job and a very sweet disposition. No matter what I ask, he takes care of it ASAP with a pleasant smile. James is there almost every month when we meet. He arrives early and ensures that our buffet is set up by 9 on Saturday mornings & according to our specifications. Over the years, Oak Creek has had several chefs. There have been times when the food was not as tasty as others but they have a new chef and the food at our meeting on 6/16/18 was exceptional. We had an oatmeal station as our light breakfast and our lunch buffet included chicken/salmon/salad/cookies/veggies/sweet tea/coffee etc. and delicious potato salad that reminded me of how my mother used to make it. People are still talking about delicious those cookies. I was also there for a Golf tournament earlier this month and their buffet was very similar to ours plus pulled pork which was perfectly seasoned. Our June 16th meeting had a larger projected attendance than usual and Billy immediately emailed me with his concerns regarding whether that room could accommodate that many people (seated) with our head table and podium in the room. Although Billy was on vacation, he emailed me several times to iron out the details and assigned Dan Baldwin (who is the new catering manager) to work with us to reconfigure the space, finalize the menu, help set up the space, order tablecloths, place signage and to be the on-site manager for the day of our meeting. Dan checked with me throughout the day to ensure we had what we needed. Of course James and his assistant Kim were right there every step of the way, from set up to clean up. I must give some accolades & kudos to Kim as well. Actually, Kim was our server before James was hired. She is kind, strong and such a pleasure to work with. There were two other servers who pitched in that day as well, who I don't know by name. All in all, everything went almost flawlessly on the 16th and we've received numerous compliments from our invited guests & our regular members. If I could give this restaurant zero stars I would. It really is a mystery how they can stay open. We live in the neighborhood and would love a place to walk to for dinner and drinks. This is NOT the place. We have now gone 3 times for dinner and consistently have slow service (up to an hour to get food when the restaurant only has a few patrons). The burger is fine and the crab cakes acceptable but everything else we have ordered there is subpar. Tonight we had the final straw and will never go back. We ordered an order to go that was 2 salads, some chicken wings and an order off the kids menu for our grandchild. We were told it would be ready in 20 minutes. My husband went to get the food and waited an additional 40 minutes to get the order. When he got hold there was no kids food (an order of Mac and Cheese). When I called back to ask told them I was told very rudely "we don't have Mac and Cheese tonight". I asked why I was not told this when I called the order in over an hour ago and was told "you will have to hold" and then the woman hung up on me. I called back 7 times but the phone was not picked up. My husband finally drove over and was handed a fruit salad and told they didn't have our order. And the best part...we paid $60 for 2 crappy salads and some chicken wings. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS. YOU CAN'T HAVE SLOW SERVICE, TERRIBLE FOOD AND RUDE PEOPLE AND EXPECT TO BE SUCCESSFUL. read more

Food was fresh...a tad bit over priced, but good. Drinks had a nice lil kick to them. Hubby ordered buffalo chicken wrap and enjoyed it. Daughter ordered a burger and loved it. Youngest had hot dog and fresh fruit, fruit was really fresh & sweet. I ordered the shrimp and grits for the 1st time so I don't have anything to compare it to. I was so excited to finally make it here! I was eagerly anticipating coming here every 8-12 weeks "just because". I was looking forward to reviewing it on Yelp and giving it 5 stars. It was such a beautiful day, we had reservations, and we were hungry! So looking forward to this place! The venue is nice and bright and has a great outdoor area overlooking the golf course. Love this! I really like that this restaurant is literally a local spot in a nice neighborhood. The brunch was surprisingly quite affordable. What's not to love? SURPRISE - all we could stomach was the omelette. The fruit was mealy, the charcuterie table had regular pepperoni from the bag you can by at Wegman's (I'm serious), the biscuits were tough as lacrosse balls, the shrimp and grits had no shrimp (I'm serious), the eggs benedict looked like hockey pucks with a tiny center portion of something and a yellow gelatinous substance dotted on top, the waffles were a beige color I had never seen before that I asked the Waffle Maker what flavor it was and he said those were plain/standard waffles, and the dessert table had desserts that appeared store bought from Sam's or BJs. I was so disappointed. We had no service until about 40 minutes after we were seated. If we wanted to to eat and leave we could have - no one came by or asked us what we wanted to drink until the very end. Two adult omelettes should not cost what it did. I considered our bill as a donation to the restaurant. I was so disappointed with our experience here. Husband says we should give it another try on a non-holiday or perhaps a non-brunch day. I am willing to try it again because of location and I want to support the community. Why drive to Virginia or MoCo every weekend if there are options near by? Still looking for options. We were surprised that a nice-looking restaurant on a golf course would have such a limited menu, mostly salads and sandwiches, and wine/beer list. We both ordered cocktails that mostly tasted like okay lemonade and crabcakes. The crabcakes were on the expensive side but lacked taste and didn't use the jumbo-lump crab meat I would expect from a Maryland restaurant. Fries were okay, but didn't come out hot, only warmish. Not worth the upcharge. If we were to go again I would order differently, but our experience absolutely did not justify the price so I do not expect we'll be back. read more

The Grove Restaurant is located in a prominent African American Community. Therefore the service should reflect planning a quality and a sufficient amount of inventory on hand on a busy night. We look forward to dinner on the first Friday's of the month because it's Jazz night with a live band. Also, fresh fish is served on Fridays. Therefore about 26 guest were dissapointed when we were told that we could not order the catfish dinner because we ran out of the catfish and the cole slaw. How can you run out the special meal for the night that began a for a 6:00 p.m. event at 7:30 p.m. This is unacceptable and unprofessional for a Restaurant of this status and sitting in a community of homes valued over $500K. Management should work as team with the employees to ensure this does not happen again. Team work prospers! Money was lossed tonight and it's embarrassing for the Restaurant. There is money to be made when you serve fish and shrimp. Especially with the Sunday Brunch. There are 4 restaurant within a 15 minute radius that serve Sunday Brunch for $25.00 which includes grill or bake fish, fried fish and Shrimp each Sunday. It's pares well with grits and potatoes. Your Sous Chef is excellent. The food is delicious, the tables are set up beautifully and very appetizing. The restaurant should cater to the community not just the Golfers. read more

I wish I could give this place ZERO STARS! I received an ad in the paper about Tacos and Tequila Tuesdays, and thought it would be a great place for a group of us to go in the area. I was completely wrong! I made reservations, got there at 7 and was not greeted by the host. Next, when we were seated, our server told us that there was a shortage of menus!!! Really???? The menus we shared was not a long list of items. My friend ordered the salmon, with collard greens and fries, crab soup and a taco, I ordered a margarita, crab soup and two tacos, my other friend ordered the crab soup, a pork sandwich with beans and potato salad, and my husband ordered a beer and four tacos. Ten minutes later the waiter tells my friend that the restaurant did not have any collards and basically no vegetables???? What the hell??? We get our soup and it was LUKE WARM!! Thirty minutes later, the waiter tells my other friend that the restaurant does not have any beans (we still have not received our tacos or refills or water or another beer or margarita). And then he comes back ANOTHER thirty minutes later to say that the restaurant DOES NOT HAVE any potato salad! My group was so mad that 1. The restaurant did not have any vegetables (what restaurant does not serve that, McDonald's has salads), 2. Our waters, beers and margaritas (don't think it had any alcohol), were never refilled after we sat for over an hour. 3. The server never checked on us (except to tell us that they don't have any vegetables, beans, or potato salad). 4. After sitting for an hour, we never received our simple tacos (which takes maybe 20 minutes MAX to cook)! We asked for the manager and even though we did not want to pay for the three cups of luke warm soup and drinks, he did give us $10.00 off our check. When we were leaving the place, we ran into a neighborhood friend and she informed us that the HOA had fired the chef before because the food was terrible! We've had great experiences with all of the waitresses, waiters and hostess staff, but Brendan is a standout. He's attentive, personable and always gets our order right- no matter how complicated my vegan wife makes it! This was my first time and wish now I had read some of the reviews first. The host/hostess was very friendly and welcoming. The waitress took a long time to come over and take drink order. Then did come back and take order, however both the appetizers and entree came out back to back. Thought she was in the back cooking. They were out of several of the items list on the menu. The good thing was I was with a good friend and then ran into a dear friend and a family member who just happened to be out. I think if you are a regular or are just here to meet up with friends for happy hour you'll have a good time. Otherwise, hold off until the ratings get better. read more

Last night event "Karaoke After Dark for Adults" was so much fun! We had a blast! My first time at the Grove and it was definitely a great crowd. It was a breath of fresh air to enjoy the atmosphere at the restaurant. It's very nice and staff provided excellent customer service as well as the managers you saw serving customers. I didn't eat and will the next time I visit. I highly suggest making a reservation when they have an event. We walked in and the hostess at entry was very pleasant as we waited to be seated because they had stop taking reservations due to event. It was a nice evening and the outdoor patio was offer that had fire pits lit to provide heat. Lucky for us, my sister saw friends who invited us to sit at their table. Went to this restaurant on Father's Day. To say the least, it was mediocre. Our reservations were at 3pm, and we were not able to order from the "entrée" menu because it's only for after 5pm (even on the weekend). I ordered the artichoke/spinach dip, and it was cold. I had the feeling that it was prepared ahead of time and was nuked right before serving, but in this case, it wasn't nuked long enough. Out of the three in my party, no one was happy with the food. In addition, the restaurant has a bar area, and the patrons were just too loud for the atmosphere. One good point is the friendliness of the staff. Can't imagine a reason to return. read more

The main hostess/manager is easily frazzled when there are over 10 people in the restaurant and forget about placing a carryout order because she will tell you she won't because she's too busy. The only saving grace is that the food is pretty decent and residents appreciate the convenience. I really want to say great things about this restaurant since I do live in the neighborhood. However I am constantly disappointied. The lack of service is ridiculous. It is 5:15 PM when I make a call for a pick up order, and the restaurant doesn't close until 6 PM. Yet you tell me that the kitchen is closed. Why is that? This had happened on numerous occasions. Oh but that's when someone actually answers the phone. If they are busy (or heck even when they are not) the phone constantly rings busy as if someone has taken it off the hook. The food is consistent at best, but there are other choices nearby with the same level of food and better service, this sometimes wins due to convenience but it is truly last place for service. Updated review: I would definitely recommend The Grove if you're in the area. There aren't that many sit down restaurants so it is a welcome addition. The restaurant has great decor and has outdoor seating that overlooks the golf course. Recommendations: The burger is so far my favorite on the menu. People seem to like the wings there too (I haven't tried them). I think the summer salad is really good. Last time I added salmon which was well seasoned. I do think they can add more desserts, but the cheesecake (which is wrapped in dough) is very good. I always order on the phone and it is usually quick and easy. read more

I made reservations to dine with them after I get married on June 16th 2017 and they called me a few days ago and then again today to cancel my reservation for something with a golf club. I'm so upset I have nothing to do after my morning ceremony which is 3 days away. They've ruined all of my plans bc it's now too late to reserve for a party of my size.
