What a terrible experience, it's starts walking in an being welcomed by broken A/C and a bunch of flies, we patiently wait 30 minutes for a table, to be expected this time of year and day. When we get called we go to our seats and are left to sit and wait. And wait we did. We waited and waited and watched people get served whom were called after us, we waited and watched these seated later tables get service and welcome and still no service not even an acknowledgement of being in the restaurant. I really never try to leave bad reviews. In this case, I would hope that improvements might be made. Maybe we caught them on a bad night. We arrived for dinner around 6 pm on a Saturday. Not busy in terms of cars in the parking lot. We were seated right away. They have live music and it was very loud but that was to be expected. It took some time for someone to come to our table and if they were really busy we would understand that. But it was not, so it was not the nest start to the evening. When we were met by our server, she seemed nice and took our drink order. All water and two soft drinks. Then she disappeared. She finally returned with drinks and while it did. Ot matter with the water, the sodas were watery from melted ice. Again, it is what it is. It is hot in North Myrtle Beach. Our order was taken. Nothing extravagant, a few burgers, a salad, and a seafood dish. Then she disappeared again. By the time the food arrived, it was clear that it had been ready for a while and sat somewhere waiting to be delivered. We specifically asked if the burgers were accurately cooked to order prior to ordering, and we were assured that they were. So we went with it and two burgers were ordered medium. What came out were hockey pucks. Maybe they were cooked to order and continued to cook while waiting to be picked up. By this time, we had been there so long, returning them for new burgers was out of the question. The balance of the food on the table was just ok. We lost our server again, waiting on some ranch dressing and ketchupfor some fries, and when they returned, the salad was mostly finished as wete the fries. By this point, we could tell that we were not the only ones having troubles with the service. Some customers were waiting outside the doors to the kitchen to catch somebody, anybody, to provide a missing side dish or condiment. All in all, it was a lackluster experience. This has been the fourth time I've eaten here at Grumpy's and their food is awesome. Service is spot on and friendly. Overall the restaurant is warm and cozy and there is fun to be had. One wish is that the management take some time to address their front doors. A little bit of elbow grease and some cleaner can go a long way. I've discussed the poor service with the restaurant's management a few times (bartenders have a habit of purposefully not making eye contact and ignoring you), and it never gets better. Avoid if you have a large party or family. Went here on family vacation. We had a party of 9, including one child with a food allergy. Our waitress Isabelle, was EXTREMELY rude from the get go. She made snide comments under her breath about anything we needed and rolled her eyes when asking for refills or basically anything. We are a kind and patient group of people but we were all very offended by her rude attitude. Our one child with the food allergy did not receive her food and when we asked about it, we were met with more attitude. When it came time to split checks, you would think we asked her to run a 10k because her response was so sarcastic and flat out mean. The food itself was great but it's unfortunate that the service was so awful because it ruined everyone's night and spirits. Sat down right away but I think they over sat our server with 3 tables, one looked like almost 20 people, a 6 top then my family of 4. We had a very hungry baby so I had to give her snacks and after about 10 minutes we had to go ask if someone was coming to help us. The manager then came over and apologized and we immediately ordered. Our food came out very quick and all of it was really good, the food runner was honestly the best, she was very attentive and helped our table a lot. Once our server got caught up he was great! Sat at the bar and while the bar staff were friendly, they were overwhelmed and can't be as attentive as I think they want to be. Large draft list but it was uninspiring. The pros: nice happy hour with tons of specials on foods, only a $1 off on beer however unfortunately. Large menu. So there were two of us last night, 45 minutes for a table, however we found the only two spots left at the bar and were immediately seated. We ended up ordering three things off the happy hour menu. All were decent. Have spicy crab rolls of the sushi side and I think it was only $4. Then ordered some sort of jalapeño and cream cheese things, they were pretty big and tasty. Final app was riblets. They were pretty good but were also the most expensive thing we ordered at around $8.50, but still decent price. Finally we spit a burger and tots. The burger was delicious and was actually under cooked a little which I'm fine with. It seems when I order a burger medium it always comes out well. This one came out more on the medium rare side. The burger had cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and a peanut butter sauce that was perfect. I think with all we had it was a decent deal. The Grumpy Monk is small chain of craft beer bars and restaurants that opened in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in March 2015. It was founded by restaurateur Chris Evans with his business partners Heri Heyadi and Greg Hicks. After some experience in the hospitality business, Evans decided that he wanted to open his own restaurant. After partnering with Heyadi (a sushi expert) and Hicks (an experience restaurateur), they decided to open a business that focused on craft beer and sushi. Evans named the new venture "The Grumpy Monk" in reference to the Trappist monks of Belgium who are famous for their brewing skills. The first location opened in the Carolina Forest section of Myrtle Beach to much success. In the following years, additional locations opened at the Broadway at the Beach shopping center as well as North Myrtle Beach. Another location also opened in Monroe, North Carolina, but it has since closed. In addition to sushi, each location also serves wings, seafood, tacos, sandwiches, burgers, salads, and various bar bites. Evans has also since opened the Sneaky Beagle restaurant in Myrtle Beach and will soon open the Hop N Which in Conway. My family and I recently had lunch at The Grumpy Monk's North Myrtle Beach location while we were on an East Coast Road Trip. We really liked how spacious the place was. After looking over the menu, we ordered a plate of Fried Pickle Chips to munch on. They were probably the best fried pickle chips that we ever tasted! For our entrées, my wife ordered a custom Salad with Grilled Chicken and I ordered "The Hot Grandma" (Grilled Cheese with Fried Green Tomatoes, Cheddar, Swiss Cheese, Bacon, and Spicy Aioli). We really enjoyed our food choices! We were really impressed with the Grumpy Monk's beer selection, which features a lot of locally brewed offerings. We decided to order a lot of short pours so we could sample a bunch. The beers we tried included Golden Road Brewing's "Mango Cart" (Fruit Beer), Liability Brewing's "Monsieur Le Maire" (Golden Ale), Noble Cider's "Apple Pie Hard Cider", Low Tide Brewing's "Aloha Beaches" (Pineapple Wheat Ale), New South Brewing's "Dirty Myrtle" (Double IPA) and Legal Remedy Brewing's "World Court Mocha Blonde Stout". Our server Chris was great. Very patient with our larger party. Other staff was friendly, accommodating and helpful. Pretty fun atmosphere. They have a large menu with an extremely wide variety of options - from seafood to burgers to wings to sushi and more! Our large group had people try things from pretty much every category and we were surprised and impressed that everything turned out to be delicious! Very fair prices too. We kind of want to come back before our vacation is over later this week. As a rule I normally don't review a place on the first visit, but we were so happy with our experience at the GM that I wanted to share. First they have great happy hour specials form 4-7 of certain drinks and a pretty extensive food menu- which includes sushi! I was a little skeptical but after learning they were a finalist for MB Best Sushi I took the plunge and was not disappointed. I highly recommend the dynamite and the Mexican roll (spicy) and if you are looking for something different and delicious, try the cucumber roll! Now that was something I wouldn't have ordered on my own but got it on our servers recommendation and it was delicious- light and filling and the rice vinegar on the cucumber really made it! If you are a beer snob they have an extensive tap list and also bottles and cans. They are on the app Untappd which makes it easy to see what they have available. On our visit they had a slew of craft beer "unicorns" including Founders CBS and Yeti S'mores stout- all on special during happy hour! Our server was amazing- he had a true knowledge of beer and the food menu and was just a nice guy over all. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this as a family hang out- it's def more for adults and older kids- teens. We were very happy with our visit and will continue to hang out at the GM! read more

Loved my first first to Grumpy Monk. Visiting town with my new Emmy and visiting friends I knew I wanted to try out this place. Our server was so friendly and helpful as we navigated the menu. Great vegetarian options as well as something for the pickiest. Fried green tomato app was good, a little over breaded but not the worst. Avocado BLT hit the spot with some crispy fries. Our first visit to this new location in North Myrtle Beach. The inside of the restaurant was really well done. Televisions in every direction, area with indoor cornhole boards, darts and a small arcade. Plenty of bar area and dining space. We enjoyed the food with our favorite being the Loaded Kegs which was tater tots, bacon pieces, scallions dunked in warm ranch flavor dressing. Club sandwich was good as was the bacon / cheese burger. I would give this place 5-stars for cool interior, 4-stars on the food / depth of menu selections and 3-stars for the service. We are regulars for the Thursday Trivia night. It is a lot of fun! They stop Trivia once the season heats up. They have Happy Hour until 7 pm. It includes Sushi, panini, wings, shrimp, etc so there is something for every taste. It is well drinks for their liquor, some basic wines and beer for their Happy Hour.
