Our experience at The Guadalupe was amazing from start to end. The service was excellent - from the moment we came in, we were greeted with a smile and quickly taken to our table. I told our server about my wheat allergy and that I was visiting because I read they have many gluten free options. She was helpful and told me what I could and couldn't have on their menu. We started with the chips and salsa - something I usually can't do because of cross contamination, but they have a dedicated fryer for the chips! Win! They serve two types of salsas. They were both good but my favorite was the red. I ordered cheese enchiladas and my husband had the birria tacos. We both enjoyed every bite of our meals! The cheese in the enchiladas was so good, the beans and the rice were amazing too. Having a wheat allergy, I struggle to find authentic Mexican food that is also gluten free - they got it RIGHT! After we ate, we ordered the churros for dessert. Oh my goodness. They were amazing! They were hot, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and we dipped them in their chocolate sauce. They are to die for!!! Did I mention it was all gluten free?? And phenomenal? They have an extensive gluten free menu, vegetarian options, and the menu is clearly labeled so you know what is what. Fantastic small restaurant that really impressed us on our first visit. First off the decor is really nice and surprised us since we drove there from Scottsdale. It feels more Palm Springs than Mesa. We were greeted immediately and given a nice table in center. Carly did a great job of waiting on us and checked on us and offered refills too. We loved the food and decor and service! Also live music started during our dinner and it was pleasant and not overwhelming. I have to compliment the calamari!!! Probably the best I've ever had and I'm from California and have had calamari for many decades. It has a slight heat in the marinade and dipping sauce and was perfect. I also had the chicken in cream sauce which was delicious and my spouse ordered the chile verde was very happy! We will be back and recommend this spot now!!! Gracias Guada!!! read more

What a great experience from start to finish. We dropped in this afternoon between the lunch and dinner crowd. Since this was our first time they walked us through the menu, gave some great recommendations. We started the bacon wrapped shrimp & mushroom calamari. Excellent presentation and flavor for both. The Guadalupe on main is the brain child of Mike, a former bartender who had a vision of Mexican, or more Texmex food and his gluten free girlfriend. With the influence of his girlfriend the menu became almost completely gluten free not by intention but by nature. In the 5 weeks of being open this has created quite a following in the GF crowd. And with that, what can I say? I was able to try every item on the table and not worry about being glutened! I was able to enjoy a meal with my non gf husband and we both enjoyed our meal immensely. Neither of us felt there was a compromise in taste or quality. And if I'm completely honest, I could not stop eating the elote dip! Service was also great. The bartender spoke to us about the drinks. Mike and our waitress Alejandra made amazing food recommendations. And the part that really tickled me; a young man walked past our table then immediately backtracked to ask me if there was an issue with my food because I was not eating. Second time in. Really enjoying this place but since it's new, I think constructive feedback is very important. Today we tried the birria tacos and the enchiladas. The cheese enchilada tasted pretty good, but the cheese inside was just not really melted at all (see pic). In fact, I think both enchiladas could have been much hotter. The side of refried beans was pretty good, but also could have been hotter. The birria tacos were good, but the beef definitely would have had a better taste if it was better seasoned with salt. Same with the taco shells. Service was again very good. Can't give this visit 5 stars with this experience, but it was good and they are clearly trying hard with this new business. I still recommend it, but 4/5 this time. read more

We loved the original restaurant when we first moved here but they closed when the light rail was being built. The owners rented it out and a new restaurant opened and it was the worst!!! The original owner reopened but it wasn't the same and we only at it once. Recently it was sold and we decided to give the new place a try and glad we did. Service was good and the food was delicious. My husband had the Birria Tacos and I had the Shrimp Enchiladas!! One of the owners came out and talked with us; very nice gentleman and very welcoming. The restaurant is very spacious and well decorated. We will definitely be back and we will bring family and friends with us. If you're ever in the area, definitely give them a try!! read more

First visit was on Mother's Day. Made a 4:00 reservation because we were told that was "pretty much all that's left." Arrived at our appointed time (there were 4 of us). The dining area was half empty. We waited almost TWENTY minutes before a server approached our table. Whaaat? The food was good. After the requisite chips and salsas appetizer we were primed for the entrees. The mole enchiladas were tasty (although chintzy on the mole sauce). Hubby liked the asada platter, and the big kid liked his fajitas despite the fact the veggies were burned. The little kid scarfed his burrito and fries. The margaritas hit the spot (a little light on the actual beverage component and heavy on the ice). The desserts were phenomenal. High marked to the churros and the pastel de tres leches. The flan was just okay. The restaurant itself is beautiful on the inside. Modern and tasteful. Interesting, when we left, half the tables were still unoccupied. Oh well. Will we return? Sure. It's a new joint and still has some bugs to work out. But it's off to a really good start. read more

Went here for dinner as a party of four and the food was super yummy! Great service and I love that the menu caters to individuals who need a gluten free menu. Had two different cocktails and they were both delicious. Only thing I didn't love is the seating area is one big room. Although, the live music was great, the open concept made it hard to converse with our party as it got very loud inside. read more

I even had my birthday here with 11 people, and every single person said it was 10/10 amazing. We had fun. Definitely worth it! Seth the Bartender Definitely knows what he's doing. Challenge him with making your favorite drink. Food is flavorful, chef uses simple clean tasty FRESH ingredients. I had the Shrimp enchiladas with mushrooms! OMG GOOD. Also get the corn dip with a side of guacamole. Red salsa is really good and green salsa is perfectly spiced and hotter than red. It can be so hard to find a deep luscious Mole here in the Valley. Most places that do a mole have been so disappointing. But not "the Guad"! When we first came here a month ago, I didn't know that they had a Mole dish. I never order enchiladas unless they have Mole on the menu. So I took a chance and then left, blissfully content after cleaning my plate. All my desires for Chicken Mole Enchiladas had been met and exceeded. And topping off the wonderful Mole sauce was chicken that had actually been marinated. So each bite was as consistently delicious as the last. So now a month later, my wife and I went back. Me, to see if it was still just as good as the first visit, before I wrote a review. And my wife actually wanted to come back. Which is a good sign, when it comes to Mexican food. She is just as picky about her red sauce and we don't go back to most new restaurants just for that reason. The accompanying beans are rice are just as tasty. The rice has a delightful and unique spice combination that keeps my mouth full. It was the first thing I finished tonight. Which surprised me since I always leave most rice on the plate, as I try and limit much of my carb intake to chips and salsa. And their Salsas are great and worth paying for. I would imagine that the rest of the menu holds other delicacies that I will enjoy in the future, now that it's time to try something else exciting. The dining environment and bar area are both picturesque and very comfortable. The staff is friendly, attentive and ready to describe any dish you maybe interested in. I do recommend the Flan. Though I wouldn't share it if I were you. It may cause you relationship problems if you don't cut it perfectly in half, or in my case favoring my wife's side. Enjoy! You will love it. read more

This place is pretty solid! Great mole, I don't even like mole, and I'll get a whole plate of it just for me. The ambiance is nice, large open dining room, a cool look to it, plus they have one of my favorite Mark Maggiori paintings which is a classy move! Bathrooms are clean and nice, staff is always nice and happy. The food has not disappointed me yet. Really great spot! A lot of fun. read more

Stopped for dinner here mostly for their famous margaritas & were welcomed in by a delightful hostess at the podium. It was quite echoey loud in the dining area so we simply asked to be seated at a corner table. Once seated we proceeded to order margaritas, they were refreshing & very lime forward. The Birria tacos were small but flavorful & packed with meat, the rice (with actual corn in it) had good flavor, but the chips & salsa were disappointing, not complementary, cost $5 for a small basket, cold and a little stale. The salsas were ok but very spicy. We would order them again. IMO, at these prices, to charge for tortilla chips is strange & unusual. Overall, nice evening out. Hole mole! Everything here was fire. The atmosphere is beautiful. You walk in and immediately enjoy the vibe. The server was a delight. She made recommendations and was on top of the needs of our very needy table. Bar drinks, while they took a little long, it was probably because they were had crafting them to a level of excellence I rarely experience. Then the food came and I reached peak level of impressed. I had the Birra Short Ribs and the elote risotto is next level. Luckily my family all got different things so I can officially rave about the carnitas, the mole enchiladas, and the pollo crema burro bowl. I cannot wait to come back. This is the second time I've been here and both times have been amazing, first time it was with my sister, we both have celiac. The second time I brought my husband and friends and everyone loved their food. I had a steak burrito and I can't remember the last time I had a good burrito, they have good gf tortillas. We had chips and salsa this time and ceviche, both real tasty, last time we had elote and we really liked that. This place is a dream esp when you have Celiac. The food presentation was unexpectedly excellent. The live entertainment was very good however the large room amplified the sound making conversation a bit difficult. AMAZING!! Drinks, food, service and entertainment. This was our first time at The Guadalupe and we'll be back! I've been in AZ for 12 years and have been searching for a Mexican restaurant that makes me feel like I'm at home and I found it! I HIGHLY recommend The Guadalupe you will NOT be disappointed! I had the carnitas and paid a little extra for the fresh corn tortillas, 100% worth the extra cost. My husband had the shrimp fajitas and was very pleased, usually you get tiny shrimp at other places, these shrimp were a nice size. The salsa red and green were both very flavorful. The red had a little kick which you often don't find at Mexican restaurants, usually it's bland and can taste like it comes from a jar. Everything was fresh, delicious and flavorful! The biggest plus was meeting one of the owners, Mike. He came out to see how the food was. He and his wife opened this spot 8 months or so ago. We talked to him for a good 20 minutes. Great guy, and very personable. Surprisingly we went to the same high school, in Hoffman estates IL, different graduating classes; what a small world. Wishing these two much success!
